This was one of those little hidden gems that you find and it was good one. Talking to some of the other patrons they mentioned that it used to be a members only lounge. It's a cool small area with its own bar and a couple of padded high top chair. Very old school with an upscale twist. The whole concept was great with the dim lights. Drinks were good and it's park of the other bar but in its own private room in the back. Hence a members lounge back in the days. It's a cool spot and worth checking out.

An amazing whiskey bar located inside of Seven Grand. It is not hard to find as it has a sign next to the door. You press the button and someone from inside will open the door. It is best to make a reservation as there's limited space inside and cannot accommodate big parties without prior requests. It is best to visit in a party of 2. They do have indoor and patio seating similar to how it is set up in Seven Grand. They have a wide variety of Japanese Whiskeys and ask for recommendation if you are up for trying out something new. The staff are amazing and you will be well served: they make great drinks, give good recommendations and super friendly. An amazingly chill place to be after a long day at work. You can get a bottle and have them store it for you for your next visits. It was also fun to read all the creative name tags on the bottles.

Now this is an older comment. I know things have changed since Oct of 2024 but I am so late to post this. I loved the tasting experience where Peter brought out the pours and bottles and discussed what everything involved. Peter is the main reason I came back much more than originally planned. Peter is literally my favorite thing about Bar Jackalope. It was the most intimate and epic tasting I have ever had. I had already come in with pours and he was very efficient. Then after we finished the first round I asked him to bring me pours based on our first ones and he was spot on. He by far is the best thing at Bar Jackalope!!! If Bar Jackalope was still setup this way it is a 5 star experience every time!!!

A very subtle place, a whiskey bar that you wouldn't expect to be in the heart of downtown Los Angeles. It was quite the escape, as the calming music in a snug space gave the energy for tasting different kinds of whiskey. The service was simply incredible, as each drink was presented with the history that made the drink. The prices were unmatched, as you can find anything you'd like to have, varying the age, quality, and taste preference, all at a price that matches the drink. There isn't a drink I wouldn't recommend and this speakeasy serves as a place where I would take a friend or two enjoy a few drinks and discourse.

What can I say! This will forever be my favorite place, as I got engaged here on 11/23/2022 at 11:48p. After a nice pre-birthday dinner in Burbank (my bday was the next day- on Thanksgiving), my boyfriend and I didn't want to end the night so early, so I yelped "lounges" and decided to go with Seven Grand/Bar Jackalope (which I actually had bookmarked for some time because I love a good ol' Old Fashion"). When we arrived to Seven Grand and told the door attendant that it was our first time, he recommended that we check out Bar Jackalope. Although you need reservations, since it was the night before Thanksgiving he said we should be fine. So we headed upstairs to the "bar" . It was a cool vibe with a band playing, but my honey and I wanted a more intimate ambiance so we knocked on the door to enter Bar Jackalope, and inside we went. I forgot the young lady's name who thoroughly talked about the different whiskeys and the various tastings they offered, but she was very attentive. My honey and I decided to just sip on regular Old Fashions as opposed to doing the whiskey tasting. I love the vibe of speakeasies. Dim, romantic, and intimate. I will definitely be back to do the whiskey tasting.

My friend took us to a surprise! A hidden gem. The speakeasy area is extremely hard to get into and took us planning in advance. You're welcomed by chill and relaxed ambiance and professional staff. We got the tasting menu and wow..I was blown away by the quality of the whiskey they presented to us. I'd like to note the Yamazaki..extremely rare and hard to find. They are extremely knowledgeable as a noob myself don't know much about whiskey! It was a great experience and I want to go back again so badly..highly recommend!

If you love Whisky or Whiskey then this is your spot to visit. Best bet is to get yourself flight sizes of the numerous bottles they have. Our bartender knew the selection well and everything felt so fancy. I love how hidden this spot is. You surely could miss it when visiting the bar it is located in. One of the reasons why I love visiting speakeasy bars.

This place is easy to miss, as it's located inside of Seven Grand. The bottom level (bar) used to be great prelude before you get upstairs to Bar Jackalope, but they recently closed the bottom portion down. To get to Bar Jackalope, head upstairs, pass the pool tables and old school bar scene, and press the doorbell on your right (once you see the liquor cabinets). Super quaint and sexy speakeasy, it's the perfect spot for conversation, great whiskey, and cigar. It's not that cold outside neither, as they have heaters.

This is one of those local gems probably only locals know about! It's located inside of the Seven Grand Bar with the entrance door near the bathroom in the back. This place is pretty much RSVP only and you likely have to book a week or more advance especially if you have a larger party. There's total probably less then 16 total seats with only 4 main tables indoors and some outdoors for cigar smokers. The decor is super old school speakeasy with dark wooden paneling everywhere in a dim candle lit room. Yeah they only open super late at night from like 7pm-2am daily. The checkin process is pretty neat. You press the call button on the door and someone will open it for you. Yes they will confirm your RSVP before letting you in. They do take walkin's if space permit but super rare except maybe slow weekdays. If you're NOT a whiskey/Scotch drinker this isn't the place for you! The only cocktail they have here is a whiskey highball. If you want anything non whiskey based you're better off just going to the Seven Grand Bar outside. The menu literally has whiskey/scotch from the entire world with many being rare/reserves. The price range from about $5-100+ a pour. Each pour is about 1/2-1oz tasting. If you have no idea about your preferred taste profile you can ask your waiter for suggestions. Think of this like a wine tasting with a whiskey sommelier at your service. They will ask for your desired price point also to keep you on budget. Typically a tasting flight is 5 pours but you can try as many as you like, and you can afford. They do have a very small snack menu on the very last page with a few small bites ranging from cured Spanish meats, nuts, and chocolates. They do also offer locker service here if you want to buy a bottle and store it there for future visits. The staff is super friendly and recommendations are usually always on point! It's definitely a learning and great experience as you taste through all the different types of whiskey and casting methods. We will definitely be back again for more lessons and tastings!

I had the opportunity to enter into Bar Jackalope and had a pleasant experience. We visited new years even before the craziness started. We got seating on the outside patio. They have endless options of whiskey. They give you a book with a list of whiskeys to go through. The gentleman that was tending to us was personable. For a whiskey love it's a must try at least once.

Great bourbon, classy atmosphere, knowledgeable and friendly staff! I made reservations since the last time I went to Seven Grand, I wasn't able to get in. The name and theme are Japanese, but they have an extensive list of premium bourbons and other types of non-Japanese whiskey. My impression is that Bar Jackalope is where Seven Grand's allocated (fancy) bottles go. Still, you can have a great time here even if you don't know much about whiskey (as long as you like it). Our server/bartender/whatever you'd call him (I think his name was Peter) went above and beyond assisting us. He was really attentive, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable about whiskey. As soon as he mentioned that GTS and Eagle Rare come from the same Buffalo Trace mash bill (#1), I was impressed. He also spent time with us (and other tables) talking, joking, making recommendations, and giving anecdotes. For pricing and pours, you have three options: a "flight" price for 2/3rds of an ounce, a full 2oz pour, and the 2oz pour of your choice in an old fashioned, Manhattan, or highball. You pay the 2oz-pour price for the cocktail version (at least, that's how it worked for the old fashioned). The flight price is proportional to the full-pour price, so there's no incentive to choose one or the other. You CAN get just one "flight"-sized pour; there's no minimum number of 2/3rd-ounce pours to qualify for a flight. Also, some whiskeys did not have a full-pour option--and others (including Blanton's SFTB) weren't on the menu at all. 2/3rds of an ounce was more than enough to feel satisfied trying some of my bucket-list bourbons. They have enough heavily allocated bourbons that I'm definitely coming back. In addition to George T Stagg, they had Eagle Rare 17, Old Forester Birthday Bourbon, Pappy 20, King of Kentucky, Elijah Craig 18... You get the idea. The Eagle Rare 10 old fashioned was good, but if you're invested enough in whiskey to come here for an allocated pour, you probably already make old fashioneds the way you want at home.

I finally was able to check it off, thanks to a hotel offer with a dining credit. Dahlia is the gorgeous petite space behind the larger ground floor restaurant space now called Cabrillo (formerly Caldo Verde). Dahlia opened as a bespoke cocktail lounge, then began to offer tea. Now it's just tea. There are five 2-tops and two 4-top tables. All food and beverage venues at the Proper used to be under the auspices of famed chef Suzanne Goin and her business partner/sommelier Caroline Styne. They are no longer affiliated with the Proper, but many of their dishes/contributions remain. The last named vestige of them is on the tea menu, "Suzanne's Deviled-Egg Sandwich". The tea menu has several options: Classic, with a seasonal mocktail, or with different champagnes. I opted for the Classic experience, because the mocktail had mocha, not my fave. Server Lluvia was clearly a Dahlia veteran; she offered a tea-smelling of all the teas that interested me as well as crowd favourites. I ultimately chose one of these faves, Mad Hatter's Tea Party, which had passionfruit and vanilla. I declined milk/cream, but did get lemon. There were rock sugar sticks on the table. It seems the selection of tea sandwiches and sweet treats changes every so often, although the vanilla bean scone, dried currant scone, Devonshire cream and apricot orange jam seem like constants. The sandwich selection at my visit were: cucumber, crab/creme fraiche, beet hummus on pita, smoked salmon and Suzanne's deviled egg. All were delish, the beet, crab and deviled egg especially. The sweet treats were: orange fig butter cookie, spiced apple brown butter crumble, cranberry frangipane hand pie, chocolate mocha macaron, pumpkin madeleine, plus the 2 scones. All were excellent. There were no leftovers. A bit pricey, but a relaxing and lovely experience. The room was not crowded when I visited, adding to the calmness of my visit.

They always do a great job with decorating when they have a new theme in effect, and the Great Gatsby décor is no exception. The room is filled with lots of gold streamers, hanging gold light fixtures, art deco artwork, Roman columns, etc. Reservations are highly recommended. We checked in at the host stand with Emma who was very friendly. She seated us immediately at the bar as requested. We enjoy talking with the bartenders and watching them make drinks. Ruben was our bartender and he was excellent in all aspects. I started out with Between the Sheets from the Gatsby menu (rum, cognac, orange, lemon, $18). Rum and cognac is a great combo. This cocktail is spirit forward and well balanced. She started out with a Bartender's Reserve (you call the spirit and flavor profile, and the bartender crafts something special for you, $20). She gave parameters of no hard liquors like whiskey or cognac, not sweet, and not refreshing (i.e. no cucumber). Ruben made the most amazing gin based cocktail. Some of the ingredients he mentioned were plum, passion fruit, pineapple, lime, and a bit of chartreuse and soda. It was complex and perfectly balanced, with great flavors. We have been here many times, and he even served it in a unique tiki mug that we've never seen here before. Now it was my turn to put Ruben to the test. I also wanted a Bartender's Reserve, and I told him to use any spirit as long as the drink focuses on banana or apricot flavor. He went to work, and after a short time a beautiful frosted glass was served to me. I forget all of the ingredients he mentioned, but it was rye based with banana liqueur, a small foam top, and fresh shaved cinnamon on top. The banana was perfectly present with the rye at a nice level. This was a home run all the way. Of course, she wanted another magical creation, and Ruben went to work yet once again. She was served a beautiful yellow cocktail, and he even hand cut a little lemon fish garnish. It was mezcal based with yuzu, elderflower, mango, and lime. It was perfectly balanced, the smoke was at the perfect level, and again it had a great mix of flavors. There was some left over, and he even gave that to her in a chilled side bottle with its own baby's breath flower garnish. It's so fun to watch their bartenders create something from scratch, grabbing various bottles, mixing, tasting, adjusting, and then garnishing and serving. In addition to Ruben's delicious creations tonight, Adrian and Sergio have also made us delicious custom crafted cocktails on several occasions. We will definitely be returning soon for some of their new upcoming themes.

I had been to the New York location many years ago and the L.A. spot has been on my radar. The gentleman at the front door was very friendly - greeting guests as they walked in. Upon entering, you proceed down the stairs. After giving him the password, he opened the doors and we walked in. We were surprised in several ways. The place is way bigger than I would expect for a place named "The Speakeasy". And at 6:30pm on a Sunday, we were the only guests inside. Only one other couple came in during the 30 minutes we were there. I would assume they are a lot busier on Friday and Saturday night. It is dimly lit, and very red inside. The bar is large with many bottles of liquor on display and many seats. The rest of the space is one large area that must have at least 20 tables, and the ceiling is high. It gives off more of a nightclub vibe than a speakeasy vibe. I tried the Naked & Famous cocktail which has two of my favorite spirits (Vida mezcal, aperol, yellow Chartreuse, lime, $18). It was nicely balanced with a good mix of smoke and herbal flavor. She had the Pablo's Poison (Altos reposado tequila, strawberry, lime, jalapeno, elderflower, $17). The jalapeno flavor really stood out with strawberry and elderflower in the background. They have a good cocktail menu with almost twenty cocktails, as well as a food menu with ten items. Walk up to the bar to order your drinks. Jeremy, the manager, and the female bartender whose name who I didn't get were nice. We aren't in Pasadena very often, and while they have a good cocktail menu, I don't know if we would return.
