I finally made a point to try this place on Thursday. All I can say is OMG!! It's amazing. I went with 2 of my besties. We alternate choosing a restaurant and have a girls dinner monthly. This was my month to choose and we were all so impressed by our choices. We all chose something different so we have a bigger taste selection to try. Started with the griddled green onion polenta cake. This was so flavorful and moist. I've tried polenta at different paces and it can be kid of tasteless. I can't say that about here. Next we had the heirloom tomatoes with watermelon. This came with goat cheese, balsamic reduction and tomato basil sorbet. I didn't care for the sorbet but after removing it the salad was light and had great flavor. I didn't think tomatoes and watermelon went together but my mind was changed. Our next dish was the strawberry cracked pepper Cesar. The dressing was creamy and not overdone with flavors. The strawberries updated the taste from any other Cesar. The pepper beef tenderloin and quinoa kale almond salad were our 2 entrees. I have had steaks at many many places. This was the best steak I have had in San Antonio. It was cooked to perfection, medium rare and seasoned perfectly. It came with potatoes Gruyère and red wine mushroom Demi. The steak did not need the Demi but it was amazing. The potatoes were moist inside and had a nice crispy outside layer. The quinoa kale almond was prepared warm with a side of grilled veggies. This sounds simple but it was so good it did not taste simple. Our wait staff was amazing and so helpful as we navigated the summer menu. I will definitely be back to try the other amazing dishes this chef will prepare. I hope you give this place a try. They did not disappoint. read more

Great atmosphere! It's almost like you're not in San Antonio anymore when you're in there haha. It's great for a date night out, nice staff and very cute set up all around. We happened upon Bar Loretta by accident on a recent visit to San Antonio. We wouldn't normally go into a place called a "bar" for a meal, but this is actually a great restaurant in addition to having a bar. We opted to eat a variety of apps and sides instead of entrees,. The macaroni and cheese with Gruyere was killer, and substantial. Grilled asparagus was spiced just right. Fried rock shrimp was served hot and yummy. We also had a beet salad, which was quite good. (This was actually too much for the two of us, so we took the leftover mac and cheese home. Just as good second time around!) We had to wait a little longer than one might expect before we were waited on and mentioned this in a polite way to the waitress when she did arrive. At the end of our meal she offered us dessert on the house, and both she AND another employee made a point of apologizing. We ordered the double chocolate bread pudding with ice cream. I've only been here once, but I cannot wait to go back and I have been telling everyone that will listen that they should check it out. I was EXTREMELY impressed. First, the way they redid the old mad hatter's space, is very impressive. It is very nicely done. I ordered the crispy brick chicken and it was insanely good. The sauce was awesome, the chicken was juicy, and the apple mushroom bread pudding side was the perfect accompaniment. I also had a couple cocktails that were both great, and the table started out with the brussel sprouts and the tater tots. These were awesome as well. If I had to compare it to one place in San Antonio, I think Cappy's is a good comparison in terms of vibe, price point, and quality. Both places offer a casual fine dining experience that feels very San Antonio, where you can where jeans and a tshirt and sit next to a table dressed for a fancy date night and neither table feels out of place. Overall, I think the quality of the food, service, drinks, ambiance, etc. is tough to beat (especially for the price). If I lived a little closer, it would be hard for me to stay away. Still, this place will probably be a regular date night spot for my wife and I going forward. read more

I've been to Bar Loretta 3 x ... it gets better every time. Lively vibe... friendly severs and bartenders...with nice cocktail selections. Food very good. Some dishes far better then others. Such as brick chicken, hamburgers, lamb chops, good though I like more of a crust on my lamb chops. Scallops excellent and so it's all very much worth a trip to King William. I have a vacation house nearby I can't wait to share this find with my guests was just walking distance. read more

This place is soooooo adorable! I fell in love with the place as soon as we walked in. The decor is stunning and we were greetedby 2 nice gentlemen at the stand. I just knew I'd be a regular patron, until we sat at the bar. We ordered an appetizer, 2 meals and 3 drinks. When we first sat down, we waited 15 minutes or so before anyone took our drink order, even though there hardly wasn't anyone there, and then later had to flag down the bartender to also put in a order for our food. The service at the bar was horrible. She paid more attention to the gentlemen at the end of the bar and when asked if I wanted another drink, I stated yes and after waiting we advised the other woman standing at the bar that I never got it and she just replied with "it's a full bar but she's making it". It may have been a full bar but the tables were pretty empty as it was still early. The girl with the piercings who swore she was making it came back and asked what my drink was again (I guess she indeed did forget). Without an apology, the bartender just dropped it off. A friend of mine ordered the beef tenderloin (medium). Towards the center it was more medium rare (it was a thicker cut and it tends to happen), she let the woman with the piercings know that if they could just heat it up really quick it would be fine and she just stared at my friend with this blank face and goes to the bartender who practically ignored us the whole time and says "this is medium right". It came back overcooked but by this time we were just ready to run for the door. As I stated I really wanted to love this place and may give it another shot, just won't be sitting at the bar again if those two particular ladies are there. read more

Horrible service. We had reservations and we sat outside only to wait 30 minutes until we were finally acknowledged. Then we finally order and they tell us they are out of the chicken. Date night is rare for us and the fact that this is what we experienced is on the one night we can go out is unacceptable. We will not be back. read more

Unbelievable what they have done with this old building. Really like the atmosphere. Brussel sprouts were terrific and like none I've had before. We split the burger. It was perfectly medium rare. Experience started off 5 Star until the manager approached our booth to tell us he had a " 12 topper " reservation coming 7:30 and we needed to hurry up and order dinner and finish by 7:30. I went to Bar Loretta Saturday night and had the most awful experience of my entire life. I truly have never been treated this poorly at a restaurant in my life. From calling to let the hostess know we were running 10 minutes late due to no parking and her response being "Well I hope you have enough time to eat...there is a reservation after you at 9" To then trying to make us sit outside in the cold mist to help with the lack of open tables inside (mind you we made a reservation for an indoor table) to the most unfriendly and quite honestly rude waiter...the experience lacked. I will definitely be letting everyone I know to NEVER go to Bar Loretta and save your money. Do yourself a favor and go to Little Ems or Upscale for an amazing dining experience! Yesterday would have been my second time here. My first experience was amazing which is why I am giving 3 stars instead of 5. I went last night with a reservation at 8 for 3 people. We arrived 15 minutes early. They were busy and I saw no empty tables. Not a problem and I expected a bit of a wait until some people left. After waiting about 10 minutes the hostess, who was very attentive came to tell me, we are waiting on a table to finish up, should be about 5 minutes or so. Still, not a problem. After an additional 20 minutes is when I started to have a issue. My party and I watched table, after table empty and people leaving. There was only one other party of 3 waiting. I walked in to ask the hostess about a table. She said she was waiting on a particular table to empty. I asked why we couldn't be seated at one of the empty tables? Her reply was very frustrating. She said we are waiting on a 3 topper. The group seated there was there 2 1/2 hours and should be leaving soon. Again I asked why we couldn't sit at an empty table? She said the tables were for larger groups or 2 people. I could understand that if there were people waiting but as I stated earlier, there was only 1 party of 3 waiting. So, 40 minutes after our reservation we we're finally seated at an empty table that had been empty for a while. We could have left but it was my son's girlfriend's birthday and I had raved about this place so she was really looking forward to it. Once seated, the waiter told me all the items they were out of. One item was there filet. That is what we went for so we ended up leaving. I understand that sometimes you have to wait. Waiting with many empty tables I don't understand. read more
