Been here many times, never reviewed it, live within a 10 min walk now, so I need to fix that. The good: The bulk of the food, with special focus on the pastas (the lobster pasta is one of the best pastas in Boston), the cocktails, the thoughtful wine list. Post-COVID outdoor space is plentiful, off the street, and (I think) has heat lamps. The average: a few misfires on food (pasta way undercooked, dry meatballs). The service is usually brusque. I've found service ranges from average-to-nearly rude on almost every occasion. Not enough to knock off a star but it's certainly never been their strong suit in my experience. The bad: the space, pre-COVID was LOUD. Some friends have complained about price-to-quality of food, although I tend to find it pretty normal for the area. Get the mystery wine. Cute Italian place! Made a reservation for 7:30pm, but we ended up getting there at like 6pm. We waited for about 20 minutes for a table, but in the meantime had the pleasure of sipping on some drinks at the bar! Drinks: -Mezzana Spritz - Peach, Campari, Soda, Moscato D'asti It's a "bubbly!" Very light & sweet! -Seventh or Second - Reposado Tequila, Del Maguey Chichicapa Mezcal, Olive Oil, Manzanilla Sherry, Dry Vermouth, Elderflower Very strong in my opinion! But I guess if that's your type of drink~ We ended up just staying at the bar because I got hungry haha but it's still a lovely place to dine, if not more romantic! Food: -Prosciutto Di Parma with House-Made Mozzarella Nice starter~ at first I though there wasn't enough mozzarella compared to the prosciutto, but in the end it was the perfect amount! -Langoustine Crudo with Lime, Pink Peppercorn, & Caviar Probably my second favorite of the night. I'm a big crudo person, so I was having a tough choice on which one to choose from their list! But we ended up going with the langoustine because of the bartender's suggestion. The combination was amazing~ the order came with four pieces, and I wanted more, but I had 2 because fair is fair :( -Paccheri with Lobster, Green Onion, & Tomato Absolute fave! When I took a bite, I just kept saying omg omg omg. It was just so flavorful! Cleaned the plate, and dipped the extra bread in the sauce. YUM~ -Spaghetti with Scallion, Crab, & Jalapeño Because the paccheri was so flavorful, I feel like this plate was a little bit more average. The former more herbal and complex (genever+cocchi), the latter a balanced fruitiness (grapefruit) with a strong smoke (mezcal) that slowly dissolves as the ice melts in the drink (though it'd be nice if it were served in a more traditional highball glass). They have a wide selection of crudos. Japanese Madai with Gold Uni tasted weird. Chocolate Mousse with Mint Gelato is perfect for a person that loves heavy dark chocolate. The Mint Gelato is different from normal mint chocolate ice cream. It really tastes like mint leaves. Friend enjoyed eating the Crab Spaghetti. It has a spicy kick to it. Lobster Paccheri and Prime Hanger Steak were ok. Friend liked the Razor Clams and Affrogato. Pork Belly and Chicken Under the Brick were good. Salmon Crudo and Yellowtail Crudo were yummy. Striped Bass Crudo was delicious. It was in a light spicy sauce. SPANISH OCTOPUS was phenomenal. It was so tender on the inside, lightly crisp on the outside, and favorful. Wished we order more of it. SALMON TARTARE was tasty. It had rice puffs on it that added a good crunch to it. We ordered it again because we loved it so much. My previous experiences have been amazing based on the food and the service. However tonight I was solo and had to eat at the bar. One bartender at the first was very accommodating and hospitable. The second bartender was completely rude treated me like I didn't exist and when I asked him for options on Bourbons beers etc. he would've thought that I was asking him to climb 10 sets of steps to give me an answer this particular bartender demonstrated that because he made some of the craft cocktails on their menu was superior to anybody sitting at the bar asking about certain spirits or the contents of a drink Being from out of town I did not feel any connection or level of customer service from the two individuals behind the bar so therefore I ordered an appetizer and a drink as fast as I could and got the hell out of there read more

My wife and I have been meaning to try out this restaurant for a while now and glad we did. All of the dishes we had was amazing and the service was great. The cocktails were okay so the next time we come back we will probably just order a bottle of wine instead. For our meal we decided to get a bunch of random apps and share a pasta dish which ended up being plenty of food for the both of us. House pickled vegetables - Surprisingly delicious variety of pickled cauliflower, squash, peppers, and fennel that was great to start off with our drinks. Each vegetable was pickled in its own special brine so you would get a different flavor from the variety of veggies. Prosciutto Di San Daniele - Beautifully thinly slices of prosciutto with a ball of mozzarella sprinkled with sea salt. If you enjoy cured meats and cheese then I would recommend getting this. We got the half order which was plenty for the two of us. Crudo Tasting - Best words we've seen together on a menu. We each got our own tasting which was six pieces of crudo split in two rounds of three pieces each. (In order of our favorites) - Yellowtail, best of the crudo we had. Very fresh and clean tasting fish. - Shima Aji, a very close second. The caviar added a great briny taste which was not overpowering to the fish. - Striped Bass, another clean tasting fish topped with citrus and peppers. - Kanpachi, we would not taste the fish as much but enjoyed the yuzu and basil. - Salmon, nice and buttery. - Spot Prawn, it was sweet but we were not too crazy about the celery and horseradish. Not bad at all but least of our favorites. Spanish Octopus - Wonderfully cooked octopus with chickpeas, cilantro, cucumber, and creme. Our server recommended this over the Grilled Sardines. Paccheri - One of THE BEST pasta dishes I have ever had in Boston. If you love lobster then you must order this dish. The pasta was cooked to perfection, it had just enough bite/chew and every piece was coated in the sauce. There are chunks of lobster claw, knuckle, and tail. The server noticed how much we were enjoying the dish and offered us more bread so we can get every bit of the sauce. Highly recommended and we look forward to coming back soon. read more

I had such a great time here! Definitely a splurge, buyt worth it for the occasion. The service was great, and they were able to recommend some really easy things. We got the crudo tasting, which was probably my favorite dish of the night! We then followed it with the ramp and ricotta crostini and the peperonata and stratiaccella crostini (peppers and burrata-esque cheese), which were both incredibly delicious. For mains, my favorite was definitely the Arctic Char (similar to salmon)! The Mezzana Spritz cocktail was so good, I ordered two of these. For desserts, we got the olive oil pound cake, Earl Grey tart, and, my favorite of these, the affogato. I will definitely be coming back here again! read more

Perfect place for a brunch date! We came here for a late brunch on Sunday and were seated immediately. There are plenty of indoor and outdoor seating options here. I definitely recommend sitting outside if it's nice out. For appetizers, there is a wonderful selection of crudo. We tried the American Snapper, which was delicious. It had a nice ceviche taste to it, but wasn't overly tangy. For entrees, the pork belly & potato hash was very good. This is a mix of small pieces of pork belly, potatoes, jalapenos, and rapini topped with two fried eggs. I wish there was slightly more pork belly (I think there were maybe only 4-5 pieces). We also tried the egg sandwich which is egg, cheese, and bacon on an English muffin. Overall, great choice for brunch in the South End. You had me at "crudo". This wonderful spot opened last summer and quickly became a favorite of mine. The daily crudo specials are something to write home about with the diversified selection of fish from the popular yellowtail to the lesser known Spanish lubina or spot prawns. What makes a crudo exceptional is the philosophy less is more. The accompaniments are minimal and simple enhancing the flavors of each fish. The light citrus flavors from the grapefruit provide the yellowtail with a refreshing bite perfect for the warmer weather. Regardless of the time of year I am partial to pork belly, I believe it is the Asian in me that draws to the crispy skin of the pork and the delicate meat of the belly. Although this dish may seem more suitable for the winter the Chef is able to make it seasonally appropriate with the additions of peaches or pomegranate. The savory and sweet combination gets me every time! If you can find it on the menu the sea urchin is a must. There is a generous portion of uni in a beautifully presented sea urchin shell. Above all else I have consistently received exceptional service with every dining experience. The host greets me with a smile, my water glass is never empty, the server routinely checks on the table and I have never been without a glass of wine. read more

Good food average service. Big problem for me is the nickel and diming of the patrons. A kitchen administration fee added to your check may seem to be an acceptable option for keeping staff until you look at your bill. This is now an additional tax on your $150.00 bottle of wine that cost them $54.80. Add that fee to the food, maybe not 4% across the total bill. What does the kitchen team have-to do with the service at the bar or tables? So really you are now looking at 25-30% tip for your meals. Why not 2% for the cleaning crew, or 3% for buss persons, let's find a way to get this up to 50% tip. Then the owners will not have to pay a salary at all. Can I get an admin fee for my military service? When does this stop? read more

For $30 you got tastes of 6 crudos and there is no place in Boston that does crudo like Bar Mezzana. Row 34 is very close, but Bar Mezzana is better. Came here for brunch this morning and got the crudo tasting, eggplant crostini, chocolate croissant, scrambled eggs with gravlox (unreal), and the frittata. I truly could not tell you what I liked most. My parents are picky eaters and don't give high praises often and they absolutely love every bite. Service was perfection as well. read more

Delicious and interesting food let down by service. I really enjoyed the food. Not only was it well executed, nice looking, and delicious, it was also different. I tried 6 of their crudo dishes and while I enjoyed all of them, the Maine Halibut really stood out. It elevated a simple cucumber to new heights. The prosciutto di parma was melt-in-your-mouth paper-thin. I also really enjoyed the different pasta dishes I tried. All of the noodles were cooked to al dente perfection. The sausage orecchiette were a bit salty, but satisfying. The mushroom tagliolini and squid ink spaghetti were simple and tasty. My favorite dish was the beef cheek pappardelle with just enough gorgonzola dolce for a surprising little twist. Now onto service. This place is not cheap, and with such a price tag come certain expectations. The first red flag was when the staff person who took us to our table was wearing stretched, faded out t-shirt, old jeans, and dirty sneakers. I don't mind casual, but this was unprofessional and not neat. Our main server while friendly, was perhaps stretched a little thin and not really on top of things. A few more cocktails might have been ordered with a bit more attention. I also didn't think the long booths really work for this type of restaurant. Beautiful food getting passed down several hands loses some of its wow factor. It also complicates clearing dishes. The servers were also not the most professionally trained. Nothing like stacking a bunch of dirty dishes right in front of customers to really bring down the experience. It is a shame really. The food is great, but without the service to back it up, I can only recommend the place for very casual, informal gatherings. Rant on kitchen administrative fees: So this restaurant (and apparently several others in Boston) are now charging a 3% "kitchen administration fee". They try to explain the rationale on their website, but I do not agree with their reasoning. They argue that this is a way to offer more fair wages to back of the house staff. I think it instead does two other things. First, it is anti-consumer. It hides real prices from consumers. Consumers are already mislead by having to pay semi mandatory service fees disguised as "tips" and taxes not reflected on menu prices. Now add 3% to your bill. Second, it is anti-employee. Owners argue that is for the benefit of staff, but instead it removes risk from the restaurant and passes it onto the individual employees. Want to pay a fair wage? Then pay a fair wage. Tying fair compensation to revenue means that if the restaurant is not doing well, employees don't get paid what they deserve. Want to provide bonuses based on revenue? GREAT! This can be done completely internally without hiding real prices from consumers. Perhaps we should expect a marketing team administration fee on our bill next year. End of rant. read more

4 of use ate at Bar Mezzana on a Thursday summer evening, eating outside (it's summer in New England after all, gotta take advantage while you can) and had a lovely evening. The food is well done, if a bit overpriced, it could be a good 10-15% cheaper, especially considering the novel 3% kitchen fee (which is also well documented -- on the crudo menu, the main menu, and the check -- good job with transparency.) There's a nice cocktail program and decent wine list (again, it feels like it should be slightly cheaper). I had a very nice blood orange cocktail and a glass of a German white i wasn't Familiar, but enjoyed. The menu is heavy on Mediterranean and seafood (not a bad thing at all) featuring crudo, appetizers and crostini with lots of fish options, and stellar pasta. There were about 4 bigger main courses as well. We shared the whitefish with picked onion and caper crostini (lovely!) and two of us had the paccheri (think short, fat xx) with lobster, tomato and green onion -- it absolutely delicious. The whole bronzino with herby green cous cous, radish, yogurt my friend had looked amazing too. My one and only issue other than the pricing is the space just feels generic and a bit cheap. I noted the chandeliers made it look like Ikea exploded all over. The interior is very sleek, but also very bland. Some really colorful interesting light fixtures would help a lot. But the place is good, and the service is excellent, friendly, unhurried and pleasant. I'll be back, but i'd be back a lot more if it was just a BIT more affordable.....two drinks each, two shared crostini and mostly pasta mains was almost $80 each person. read more

The atmosphere of the restaurant was great. It was a good blend between trendy and nice for dates or business dinners but also casual as a good place to grab dinner with some friends to catch up. FOOD POISONING. Not only was the food not good, it made me very sick. I ordered the Tuna Crudo and the Yellowtail Crudo. I love all sushi and fish but as I ate the fish at Bar Mezzana, I noticed it tasted...off. I only ate a piece of the tuna and sent it back. I then received the Yellowtail Crudo. It tasted mealy and slimy. I didn't want to send another thing back, so I made the mistake of eating it. My boyfriend doesn't eat raw fish so he didn't try it. When we got home, I immediately started throwing up. I also developed a red rash all over my face and neck. I freaked out and did a telehealth appointment with a nurse. She diagnosed it as Scombroid Poisoning which is when you eat fish spoiled with bacteria. My boyfriend had to run to CVS to get me Benadryl. I threw up on and off for a few hours. I called the restaurant and told them what happened. They apologized but they never followed through on refunding our meal. We only ordered 3 things- the rancid fish and my boyfriend's chicken. His chicken was greasy and gross but hey, at least he was spared food poisoning. read more

I had high expectations for this restaurant based on the reviews and was pretty disappointed. We ordered the salmon crudo, the ricotta and chard crespette, the orecchiette and the cacio e pepe. The salmon was fine - nothing tasted bad but also nothing out of this world. The ricotta and chard crespette was my favorite part of the meal because of the complexity of flavors although slightly burned at the bottom. The cacio e Pepe was the most disappointing. It was drenched in oil and lacked the distinct pecorino taste. However, the orecchiette with sausage and fennel was good. Overall, the wine list and cocktail menu was pretty disappointing. Amaro and an Ice cream sandwich to top it off, made for a great dinner! Note, we ate outside and it was chilly last night but they had tall heaters every few tables that kept us warm. Bar Mezzana has great crudo variety but there was nothing extraordinary about the crudos beyond the breadth of options. Possibly worth trying the Crudo Tasting once. What was extraordinary was the Octopus. I was not expecting this to be the best octopus I've ever had. Craigie, Neptune, Little Donkey, Sarma and about 5-10 other restaurants all have good to great Octopus. Bar Mezzana is consistently ranked as one it Boston's hot spots and for good reason. This local gem does Mediterranean refined food well and the ambiance makes for a great date night. We started with the radicchio salad and octopus. The salad sounds like a strange combination of ingredients but it truly was a delicious balance of flavours: sweet from the orange, crunchy from the walnuts, savoury from the radicchio and tangy from the blue cheese. The octopus was cooked perfectly with a tender interior and crispy exterior. It was atop a yogurt spread and garbanzo bean salad. For main dishes we shared the halibut. The halibut was cooked perfectly however the accompaniments were nothing surprising. Since the fish was so delicious I feel that they could do more with the sides. Bar Mezzana is a romantic spot with great food and wine...make sure you have a reservation before venturing to this spot other wise you will be waiting all night to get a seat. read more

I hosted a get together here a few weeks ago and it started off great until we received the bill. Bar Mezzana automatically adds a 20% gratuity for large parties, however it would have been nice to inform us ahead of time. I know most restaurants do this and since my previous career was as a server, I always tell the guests ahead of time about the added gratuity. But, not this time! Did they not think we were going to tip 20%? And, they also charge a 3% Kitchen administration fee, which is mentioned on their website, menu, and at the bottom of the check. On a more positive note, the restaurant had a nice ambience to it with and an open kitchen concept. Our server Chuck was extremely helpful in suggesting plates that we all could share. I highly recommend any of the crostini's, meatballs, and dates. Advice for large parties: make sure you ask your server if there will be an additional 20% gratuity added on before you even sit down or better yet when you make the reservation so that you can avoid the same situation I encountered. This is one of my favorite restaurants in Boston! I've been for both brunch and dinner and I've loved everything I've tried. Some of my favorite items from the brunch menu are the griddled banana bread and double cheeseburger. For dinner, their crudo is a must-try! I recommend the razorfish clams or salmon. Both brunch and dinner start with housemade onion focaccia, which is honestly fantastic on its own. Whether you're going for brunch or dinner, you will not be disappointed. Wow. I am pretty stunned by how amazing my experience here was! Came here with a friend on a Monday night for dinner and it wasn't too busy. I couldn't wait to try everything. We ordered the chicken liver, bacon, and onion crostini and the beef tartare to begin with. THE CROSTINI was pretty much to die for. The liver wasn't too gamey and had such a nice, wholesome flavor to it that meshed perfectly with the sweet onions and crispy bacon. I was afraid the bacon would overpower the liver taste, but it did not. I'm still dreaming about how good it was! The beef tartare was what I would expect it to be. It was okay, and I wish it came with a carb compliment. I also didn't like how I didn't taste much of the caper or the black pepper. All I could really taste was arugula and light cheese. I feel like it could be a bit better. If you don't like your pasta al dente, don't come here. I, however, love it al dente. We ordered the Pacherri pasta (lobster and green onion with a rich vodka/tomato sauce). I haven't had good pasta in a while, and let me tell you, this exceeded my expectations. The only sad part was it only came with two small chunks of lobster. However, the sauce was flavorful and there was a perfect amount of green onion. I would say this was probably the highlight of the night, in my opinion. We also ordered the yellowtail crudo. It was okay. I enjoyed it but I wouldn't say it necessarily "wowed" me. They do give you pretty thick chunks of it though, so I'm not complaining. For dessert we got the chocolate budino and the coconut semifreddo. The semifreddo was light and tart and was a great palate cleanser in my opinion. It tasted exquisite. The budino tasted much simpler, and reminded me of a basic chocolate pudding. It was meh. Bar Mezzana is a chic Italian joint in a professional and residential area in South Boston. The restaurant is modern and inviting, with elegant tables and a clear view of the busy kitchen. I tried the beet salad and it was tasty, with soft marinated beets and a refreshing and light dressing. The appetizers are served with a tasty rosemary bread and high-quality olive oil. For my main course, I tried the lobster pasta. The pasta was slightly undercooked but there was a generous serving of lobster and a rich, creamy sauce. I tried their version of chocolate moose, which was a rectangular brick of chocolate and banana ice cream, and it was unusual but delicious. Bar Mezzana is truly a beautiful restaurant with unforgettable food. I have actually been eyeing this place for over a year now but never got around to actually trying it out until today. My boyfriend and I came here for dinner to celebrate Valentine's Day and we were pleasantly surprised by the quality of the dishes. We started off with drinks and decided to share a Gimme the Tea which was delightful. It tasted like a sweetened iced tea and went down very smoothly. I'm someone who prefers sweeter drinks so this one was perfect for me. As scallops lovers, we just couldn't pass up the live scallop crudos and let me just say they were AMAZING. I was a little hesitant at first when the dish came out but wow was that scallop heavenly. It was served with tangerines which provided a sweet citrusy kick that balanced out the scallops perfectly. I had a hard time holding myself back from ordering 10 more plates but I'll probably do it the next time I come back! Following the scallops, we tried the mushroom crostini and Spanish octopus which were both solid dishes. The duck egg on the crostini was perfectly cooked and the mushrooms were extremely flavorful. I personally found the octopus to be a little bit on the saltier side however, it still had a great crunch to it which made it different from other version of octopus I've tried. For our entrees, we decided to split two pasta dishes: the pappardelle and the paccheri. I'm going to be quite honest, these two dishes were actually the least favorite of mine for the night however I think I'm just an anomaly because my boyfriend enjoyed them both so much he happily finished both for us. The horseradish flavor was prominent in the pappardelle and unfortunately, it's just one of those ingredients that I personally cannot handle well but for those who enjoy horseradish, this is definitely your dish. Between the two, I enjoyed the paccheri a little more however I found the lobster flavor to be a little overwhelming after a few bites. Nevertheless, from an objective standpoint these dishes were both cooked perfectly and their flavors were well executed. To end the night on a light note, we decided to grab their affogato which was great. The espresso was served nice and hot and was strong in flavor which I enjoyed. There was also a complimentary self-serve candy bar towards the front of the restaurant which was set up for Valentine's Day. Upon receiving our check from our server, we were given a little clear bag which he invited us to fill up at the candy bar. It was a cute little touch that I really appreciated. I opted for pick up and my double cheeseburger was not ready despite arriving at the estimated time given to me by the restaurant. No big deal. 20 minutes later, a server handed me my food and I walked one block to enjoy the food at home. There was hardly anything to enjoy, though, once I opened the container. The fries and burger were cold, and the burger was sloppily put together. The burger was completely missing lettuce, (which I never asked to be removed), had scant caramelized onions, and I am fairly certain they forgot to include dijonaise. I am unsure why they had me wait when I was clearly given food that was poorly prepared long before I even arrived. Although their burger being the most underwhelming one I have tried from a restaurant, I am sure that the other food items on their menu are worth trying considering the many positive reviews. read more

My wife and I were excited to eat dinner at Bar Mezzana because of the glowing reviews. We were seated at a high top and we noticed that a couple gentlemen were leaving next to us. We asked the server if it's not too much trouble could we shift over a table and he said it would be okay. As we moved to the adjacent table, the female host approached us and made several snide remarks that came off as rude and alluded that "we ruined her system". We would've been okay if she had politely informed us that she had saved that table for another customer. We don't appreciate the poor customer service and we're shocked by the way they treat customers. The food/drinks were actually decent but the experience threw us off. Very disappointed in the service of this restaurant. I made a reservation online around 9:30am and immediately realized it was a different restaurant that I was looking to book for my daughter and I. I tried to cancel but since they have a 24hr no cancel policy I wasn't able to do so online. I called and left a message to please call me back at 2pm when they open so I could cancel the reservation. I got no call back so I called to cancel and they said per their policy they would have to place a $50 charge with no exceptions. I can't comment on the food. But I would recommend not making a reservation due to the lack of customer service for to an honest mistake. read more

Very good contemporary Restaurant! Service was great and fast. Food was really good though a bit pricey for some items. Crudo with grapefruit, red peppers and garlic flowers was good but for me it missed a bit of acidity. The eggplant crostini was delicious!!! Perfect combination of flavors! Duck hearts were good, cooked just right but the portion is small to share. The lobster pasta had an amazing sauce, cooked al dente but as others said it was missing some lobsters!! It was literally like 4-5 small pieces of it. :/ We finished with pistachio biscotti and vin santo. The vin santo was amazing but the biscotti although flavorful was too thin and not so crunch as traditional ones. read more

We had an excellent meal here. Crostini, cheeses, and pastas were phenomenal. The ambiance was lively. Service was incredibly friendly. It's not cheap but felt worth it. And, on most accounts, a five star experience. BUT...I have to knock off a star for drink service. It took an uncomfortably long tine to get our cocktails. At least 20-30 minutes and after food had arrived. That said, wine came out in minutes so it seems to be isolated to a challenging, busy bar. I'll give Bar Mezzana another try. We came to Bar Mezzana in a group of six, so we had the advantage of trying almost everything on the menu that they have to offer for dinner! CRUDO: Their crudo is a cross between classic sashimi and fully dressed sushi. Their toppings and seasonings are minimal and flavorful, but they definitely do not serve plain raw fish either. Think O Ya without the expensive price tag. The BLUEFIN TORO was our favorite, which came in four pieces and was accompanied with just the right amount of seasoning. We also had the YELLOWTAIL (paired with grapefruit oil & chili) and SALMON (with a salsa verde), which were also great options. CROSTINI: Their crostini comes on a large slice of toasted baguette, sliced into four pieces. We tried the CHICKEN LIVER, FIG & SALAMI, and BONE MARROW crostini to share, which would normally be a good appetizer for a smaller group. Because they provide plenty of bread for the table with the crudo, we didn't think the crostini was necessary as part of our meal. PASTA: Now for the main meal, we were shocked that after ordering three pasta dishes, we were brought out additional dishes that were the chef's special! We placed an order for the SPAGHETTI, ORECCHIETTE, and PACCHERI dishes. Of the three, my favorite was the PACCHERI, which came with lobster, green onion and tomato. The sauce was creamy, but not heavy, and paired very well with the lobster. However, I do wish there was more lobster in this dish! The spaghetti is a classic dish flavored only by salt & pepper, which some of my friends loved. The orecchiette was extremely flavorful with the sausage. The chef's specials included one pasta dish topped with plenty of black truffle, and a clam pasta dish. DESSERT: My absolute favorite part of the meal was dessert! I can't choose a favorite because I loved all three options we ordered: BLUEBERRY CROSTATA, APPLE BOMBOLINO, GIANDUJA TART. They were all perfectly buttery, savory, and sweet. These were perfect to share within our group, and we licked our plates clean! We were extremely stuffed from this meal! The servers were very helpful and accommodating, and even offered whiskey shots to go with our bone marrow crostini dish. The environment is very fun and lively, especially with the open kitchen concept. Bar Mezzana is a very welcomed addition to this dead part of the South End as it will quickly get packed with plenty of luxury apartments and restaurants! read more

When you think of Italian restaurants in Boston your mind may go to the North End, heavy pasta dishes with traditional red sauce, meatballs that sit in your gut like yesterday's garbage. You won't get that here, Bar Mezzana boasts some of the finest cuisine in The city with lighter, coastal Italian fare. The chef does a tremendous job of blending modern and traditional dishes ultimately creating a menu that would be considered a masterpiece by many. Some of my personal favorites include the Oricchiette and the seasonal crudo. You cannot go wrong with any of their specials. (Or really any dish that looks appealing as everything is made fresh daily) A perfect venue for a date night or larger gathering of family or friends! read more
