Almost didn't try this place because the first reviews I read on Yelp blasted the food though they praised the view, ambience and service. I tried local rest. on Trip saver and it came up with 4.5 stars with 70+ reviews so we decided to try it, we are on a road trip across the nation that started in Texas and circled up through NM,AZ,CA,OR, WA, Idaho, MT then on down through the Dakotas, NB, KA, OK. I gotta admit it was awesome, some call it "pricey" but I had the most expensive cut (a 16oz buffalo, bone in Rib eye) the wife had the new York strip, she had a cocktail and a glass of good wine, I had 2 Draft IPAs and we shared a dessert (huckleberry cheesecake) and the tab was $113.00, I don't call that "pricey" The views are awesome, the atmosphere as well, the staff are friendly and the food was excellent... steaks cooked to a perfect Med. rare and I can't leave out the delicious home made blue cheese dressing, garlic mashed potatoes and grilled veggies. I will mention that our delightful waitress seemed to have a short term memory problem as she was slow on my second beer and the dessert and she accidently tossed the buffalo bone and about a third of my wife's steak that we had requested be put in a doggie bag for our "Grand dog" but she apologized profusely and got us a bone for him anyway and chased us down in the parking lot to make sure we got it. I decided to give her a $25.00 tip after I found out she had a huge table that showed up the same time we did on the other side of the rest. If we ever make it back to Yellow stone we will definitely be back here. read more

We stayed at Bar N Ranch's 4 room cabin and boy am I happy we did. We are 5 grown men and we each got great sleeping accommodating in absolutely the best setting. The cabin has enough room to accommodate 6 adults & 6 kids. It features a double sided wood burning fireplace with authentic wooden floors & surrounding architectural elements, including a kitchenette w/ large fridge, outdoor spa & amazing front & rear porches to enjoy this fantastic landscape. The cabin has been remodeled with dual panel wooden windows & feels newer than some of the others (Although i have been inside the rest). The staff is friendly and our room gets room service daily. The continental breakfast is average & we never tried their dinner, but the grounds are great. I would totally come back here with my wife and kids so they can enjoy an authentic country experience in a clean environment. read more

I debating posting a review because I LOVED it so much I didn't want people to discover it and share. I went here for my honeymoon, and it was amazing. My husband and I are big wine snobs and foodies. Their food was incredible (we brought our own wine $10 corkage). There is nothing I can complain about. It was serene and perfect. When we arrived the restaurant was half empty, which I expected due to the remote location. Our waiter promptly took our order and then things went south. We waited an hour for our appetizer. Our kids were hungry after a long day in the park, so I asked if they had some bread or something to hold us off until our meals arrived. Our waiter said he could order us some bread, but that it wouldn't be complimentary. He blamed the delay on a couple "large tables" of 8. What kitchen can't handle this when the restaurant isn't even full? After waiting another 20 minutes, I cancelled the bread and the salad that never came. After nearly two hours, our meals arrived. Best experience I've had in West Yellowstone AND the national park. Attentive, friendly service and good food. I wasn't made to feel like a member of the tourist herd and after spending the day being rained on and inching along the roads in endless convoys, I really needed that. I ordered a wedge of iceberg lettuce salad and bison meatloaf with potatoes and gravy because comfort food sounded exactly right, and it was. I know where I'm going for breakfast now, too. read more

Stayed while working and was treated like Family! While I worked in the area I was staying for three nights with the folks at Bar N Ranch who from the beginning showed what HOSPITALITY can be, as putting up with odd requests and needs. There were six of us and at times the varied needs were anticipated and handled like clockwork. The new dinning room is close to completion but in the meantime the food in the main house is of such quality that you know immediately you have found a GEM the Chef is having fun and it reflects through the service and quality! It was early in the year but with the growing season on the way local elements will become more available and that brings a larger scope of items for the talented team that is in residence now. We had dinner here for our first night with Under the Canvas. The food was pretty good and our waitress Dasha was very friendly. I am giving 3 stars because my dish was overpowered with garlic (I'm an avid garlic lover so this was surprising) and our veggie burger was bland. The prices were also very steep considering the food that we revived. It would have been a better experience if the food was accurately priced. Drive on by. It's no longer the Bar N Ranch restaurant, but something called Embers . More's the pity. It used to be this beautiful restaurant with high quality food. Now you order at the check-in desk from a laser printed menu with high priced , low quality food. When I asked what happened, the hostess said the other restaurant wasn't family friendly. You pay before you eat. You set your own table AND YOU ARE EXPECTED TO BUS YOUR OWN TABLE. A once quietly elegant restaurant, there are now garbage bins, dishwater and dish trolleys in the corner. Nothing is fresh. Fifteen dollars for a pulled pork sandwich was ridiculous. The beer was warm to the point the chilled glass couldn't save it. Don't bother. Drive on by. Little surprise on the prairie! 9days into our 15 day road trip, we are pancaked, baconed, and carbed out. Say what you will about Cali, we deserve most of it, but we are spoiled with clean edgy culinary treats. Chef Ryan's menu is quirky, fun and delicious. The string beans served with the kids fresh made chicken strips were garden fresh! The adult dishes were excellent! Steak, salmon/quinoa fresh vegetables, and dessert; try the huckleberry bread pudding! When we inquired, chef Ryan came out and chatted with us, he's a hoot and more importantly he's given his life to Yellowstone. He loves the menu he's spent years curating. It's a great blend of giving tourists bison steaks without neglecting the art! A real stand out and the wait staff was so incredibly friendly. Thank you for a lovely evening. read more

This place was a major disappointment! Their online menu looked great. We were staying at the KOA next door so decided to try this place out. Website is deceiving. Looks like your going to enjoy a high end meal but upon arrival we were greeted by a gal at a desk taking meal orders like a lunch line. We ordered a bottle of wine which we waited 30 minutes for and had to go up and ask about. 45 minutes later no food!! People that came in well after us were enjoying their entrees. Again, had to go up and ask about where the food was! Ridiculous!!!!! After 10 minutes a waitress comes up and tells us their printer went on the "fritz" just as our order was placed. Are you freakin kidding me!! Oh, and then she offers us some ice cream as a condolence. Our meal finally came and was on them. Aside from all this, there is no sign on the building so you don't even know where the restaurant is. End of the day, diner beware! UPDATE: 7-23-18 We were NOT comped for the terrible dinner experience. They said the dinner was on them but several days later the charge showed up on our credit card. Only negative was waiter forgot to bring sugar for hot tea and took 10 minutes to find someone to bring sugar. this is now called embers, we did not know that when we went there for dinner this evening, we called ahead and all they said is they were not taking any reservations never told us that bar n didn't exist any longer...we have gone to this "fine dinning resturant for a few years....we were so embarrassed we took guests and found our selves at a cafeteria can you believe you pay for your order at the front food is served on paper plates with plastic forks and PLASTIC CUP FOR YOUR WINE the menu is not even mc donalds the whole experience is beyond our wildest thoughts....again we drove from island park to this dump with guests talk about red faces, realize you are out in nowhere so when you are there you are there it took a half hour to get to this go forsaken place cannot say enough about how bad our evening was read more

On sunday they open until 11 am for breakfast buffet. We arrived at 10:52 am and they didn't hesitate to let us in. Zack the waiter was extremely nice. The foos in the buffet was almost done and he went ahead and brought some more fresh food. He did not rush us eventhough we were late. The food was just average. It had scramble eggs with onion and pepper, bavon, potatoes, fruit salad and flat bagel. The decoration of the place was really nice ! Everything really clean. read more

This is without a doubt the best place in West Yellowstone. Now, that's not to say you are eating at the finest establishment in the country, but for West Yellowstone this is as good as it gets. We came in on a Sunday night. The restaurant was hot, and we had to wait about ten minutes just to be seated (even though only half the restaurant was full and no one was ahead of us in line). The service was friendly, though, apologizing for the wait, and we got to sit at a table looking at mountains--never a bad thing. The food is pricey, but it's good. My tuna salad was refreshing, and the gin cocktail I had hit the spot. My wife was pleased with her falafel salad as well. read more

My husband said, "I don't think they have a chef. I think they have a microwave." I read the Yelp reviews and thought we were safe to get a decent to good meal. I think my mashed potatoes were either previously frozen or boxed. The gravy over them with the short ribs was definitely not made in house. The ribs were flavorless. My husband's chili was lukewarm and also tasted out of a can. The lettuce was fresh with way too much dressing on our wedges. Those were good after scraping off the dressing. Staff was friendly. Our dinner was phenomenal! We went at about 830pm ( they closed at 10pm) and we got our dinner very quickly. We'd recommend the pecan crusted trout, bison meatloaf and sweet potato soup. The portions were large and included a soup or salad and two sides. The trout was cooked and seasoned nicely and a good portion for the price. The meatloaf had a delicious demi glaze and was flavorful and juicy. The atmosphere was warm and inviting and the service staff was friendly and attentive. We'd definitely eat there again! read more

Greeter acted like we were bothering her by coming in the door for dinner. No smile, no welcoming greeting. I ordered chicken tacos but got chicken nachos but didn't send it back because the service was SLOW. The cheese on the nachos had chilled to room temp -yucky. Dessert was mediocre. Fail.. Epically... I ordered the egg in the toast with caramelized onions and ham steak with home fries and bar-b-que sauce. OMG, it was terrible to start with the egg was as tough as rubber; seriously vulcanized. The toast was completely saturated in grease; my first bite it was like I ate a grease explosion the grease came out the corners of my mouth it made me wretch. There was one burnt julienne piece of onion that was supposed to pass as a Caramelized onion and there were 4 burnt and I mean burnt black 1/8 inch pieces of ham. The potatoes were burnt black on the outside and raw in the middle. I was offended that someone would serve me this poor quality of food I thought it was a joke. I would not recommend this restaurant breakfast is the easiest meal of the day if you can't get that right then fire the kitchen staff and start over Service was terrible as well but I feel that poor attitude stemmed from the kitchen's poor ability read more

Went for breakfast, we've been coming to the Bar N for the last 10 years and we have always loved it here. Really feels like the new owners don't care about the quality of their food. Egg in a Hole was described as having ham and caramelized onions, got three tiny diced pieces of ham and 1 piece of burnt onion. Bread was drenched in grease. Pancakes were tough or burnt. Huckleberries in pancakes were very few and far between. Coffee was never refilled and was cold by the time we got cream. Asked for water 3 times and never got it. When we asked the waitress about it, she just replied "okay" and walked away without trying to resolve anything. Half the problem is the kitchen half the waitress. I understand they don't get a lot of repeat customers but that does not excuse bad food and bad service. read more

Our family of six was there last night for dinner, and it was an excellent experience all around. Hard to find single malt scotch in West Yellowstone, and it was not only available, but priced at far below what I've paid elsewhere. Staff was welcoming, especially to the kids, and the food was excellent all-around: bison and elk were great, as was the pork chop and pasta. We tried it all! This was one of the best "western" experiences we've had in Yellowstone, even to the issue of having to give the cattle the right of way. read more

West Yellowstone is full of touristy shops and average restaurants, if you are looking for a delicious dinner in a high end setting, this is the place for you! Entrees range from $20-$45 but they are so worth it! Recommend the bison steak, rainbow trout and the bacon mac and cheese. All entrees come with roasted potatoes, veggie mix and a soup or salad. Salads are fresh and come with homemade dressing( try blue cheese and also the huckleberry..yum). Our waitress, Allison, was so friendly and we had a lot of fun with her. The lodge itself is just gorgeous, they have a wine cellar with over 1,000 wines and the decor is amazing. Bathrooms are really nice too, check out the faucet. The views from the restaurant are outstanding. Only 6-7 miles outside of main street in W. Yellowstone. Luxurious accomodations but everyone was in sweatshirts and jeans or casual attire after a long day of hiking!This was so good we went here two times in one week! read more

Excellent place, people and price. We stayed in the 4-bedroom cabin. Very nicely furnished and finished. When we needed help with the hot tub, they had someone there in minutes. It would have been nice to have a full stove, but we got all they promised, and the price was a real value for a family of 6 adults. Quiet, clean, great location... what's not to love? read more

What a pleasant surprise! My family and I were looking for something a little bit nicer after days of driving and eating on the run. I also found this restaurant on Yelp and was so glad I did. The ambiance is great and the hostess was very friendly. Our waitress was also very sweet. We ordered crab cakes to start-delicious! I ordered the filet (pretty tasty), my husband ordered the buffalo stir-fry (loved it) and my son ordered a grilled cheese. Everything was beautifully presented and delish. It is a few miles outside of West Yellowstone, but we are talking maybe an 8 minute drive. Completely worth it if you want to sit and actually enjoy a meal. I highly recommend it! read more

OMG! This restaurant was amazing! I had the surf and turf special which came with 6 oz king crab and a 16 oz rib eye steak cooked perfectly. It was spectacular. My sis had the stuffed pork chop. She thought hers was great. The salads were fresh and had house made blue cheese dressing. The bread was made in house with a 100 year old sourdough starter. The desserts were sublime! We had creme brûlée and a lemon napoleon. They were creamy and luscious and pretty close to perfect. The setting was remote and private. I loved it. Check out the bathrooms! read more

This was our nice dinner out during a road trip and it was really pleasant to have a relaxing dinner with good food and good service in a very cool, lodge-like atmosphere. My husband loved the buffalo rib eye and wanted to chew the bone! My stripsteak was perfectly cooked and I liked the sauce with garlic on top. Our son loved his buffalo burger. The wedge salad was good. The only thing that was not good was the tomato basil soup- it tasted like pizza sauce. Too tangy. Sides were alright- it was really all about the meats. We also had dessert and recommend the Creme brûlée. Dinner for four (including a 12 and 9 y o), a glass of wine & a beer, came to $154 before tip- but these may be standard prices for a nice dinner in a tourist area. Another nice touch- windows nearly take up the walls for beautiful mountain and prairie views and they had a pair of binoculars sitting in the window sill for closer looks!
