Restaurant vibes were great,service impeccable, but the food was subpar Given my love for Krasi, I was extremely excited when I heard of the opening of another restaurant by the same group so i rushed over to grab a table. I absolutely love the vibes of the restaurant. It's super modern yet homey. Servers are extremely nice and attentive, and had great recommendations! The food was disappointing though. The spreads are the only menu items we really enjoyed (especially the taramosalata) and paired well with the bread recommended. The saligarria (snails) was ok - snails had great flavor but the tomato was incredibly acidic while the pearl onions were bland. We also ordered a few grill items, but all were overcooked and dry. If I were to come back, I would probably just stick to the spreads and some of the pitas. read more

So many friends recommended this place and it did not disappoint. Got the tzatziki, taramosalata, and galotyri dips with bread. All were amazing, even the side of the butter that came with the bread was delicious. Also got the fried oyster mushrooms and the horiatiki salad. Loved those, especially the salad which was full of chunky fresh tomatoes. At that point the two of us were unfortunately stuffed so we didn't have room to for mains - but we will absolutely be back to try more. The drinks were also great, definitely recommend the orange sparkling wine. Overall this place is a 10/10, the ambiance felt like a taverna in Greece, and our server was very knowledgeable and kind- even giving us a free shot of mastiha at the end. Never tried it before but I liked it more than ouzo. I think the only thing I'd do differently is come with a big group in the future so that we can order more items and get a sampling of everything :) read more

Got a chance to check out this brand new addition Xenia Hospitality located in Brookline and was blown away! It was just about a week past the opening date on a Saturday night and there was a steady flow of patrons. The atmosphere just felt homey and welcoming--the attention to detail in the decor was evident and appreciated. I sat at the bar where I received wonderful service from two of the most amazing bartenders (I really wish I could remember their names). They knew the menu and showed genuine concern for any allergies to be accommodated. From the time I walked in the door I received consistent hospitality. We enjoyed a dinner at Bar Vlaha. There were plenty of parking spaces around on a Saturday night which was great. The atmosphere was great with family friendly dining room and nice decoration, open kitchen where we could see the brick oven, giving a cozy feeling, in addition to well placed and nice looking bar... Next time I may prefer to sit by the bar... service was attentive and nice. We enjoyed our cocktails and mezes - roasted eggplant was amazing- we also enjoyed fried oyster mushrooms. Chicken presented well however it was a bit dry. I like salty however onions served with chicken, as well as Saginaki was a little bit salty for our taste. The vibe of the space is cozy and fun, the waitstaff is fantastic, and the food is incredible. Our waiter had tried everything in the menu so he was able to guide us with recommendations. We chose the bread with the sheep milk butter, patates, wild boar, and greek sausage. Everything exceeded our expectations, the wild boar was exceptionally good. After seeing all the hype on Instagram about Bar Vlaha, I knew I had to check it out! However, I don't think the food lived up to the hype, unfortunately. We started with the bread and trio of dips (feta, eggplant, and tzatziki). The dips were awesome but the bread came out cold. We then got the leek fritters, which were great, and the fried oyster mushrooms, and mushroom pie of the day, which were both so-so. Best part of the meal probably the dips and red wine blend and decor. For the price point, not positive if I'll be back here. read more

We went on a Friday night and after looking forward to this, I have to say we were disappointed overall. We started with the braised snails and walnut fritters, both were pretty good. We then had the pork chop which was good; given that it was smoked we thought it could have had a more noticeable smoky flavor. We were also not fans of the onions that were served with the pork. They were supposed to be pickled but really just tasted raw. The most disappointing part of the meal was the beef cheeks. The whole meal was far too oily, including the fermented grain they were served with. We also had a small piece of aluminum foil in the meal. Seems like a good concept for a restaurant but not to our tastes. With lots of other offerings in the area, I don't think we'll be back. read more

We went to Bar Vlaha for our anniversary dinner. Sat outside on their patio. The ambiance is nice outside but definitely cooler inside. The service was excellent. Attentive, helpful, and they brought us little glasses of champagne when they heard it was our anniversary. The food, however, was underwhelming. Been here about 3 times and docked a star because we got some new stuff this past time we didn't love (the corn meal pie with feta and greens being one). Really fun and unique spot/experience. I'd say this is more of a 4.5, but I think Krasi is better, in a head-to-head comparison. The wine braised beef cheeks were the things of legends; I could eat these suckers every day. On the flip side, was the wild boar shoulder, which was either over-cooked or held too long, or both, as it was extremely dry - the sauce/ragu couldn't possibly give it more moisture. Another massive highlight, as weird as it may sound, was the butter that came with the bread. I could easily eat a container of this stuff with a spoon. Pro tip - get the table wine. Its an absolute steal; I am not sure there is a better value for quality/price wine in the city. read more

Bar Vlaha is a fantastic addition to the Boston restaurant scene. They specialize in central and northern Greek food, with incredibly flavorful and rich cheeses, dips, vegetables, and meats. The ambience is fairly simple, but we loved the decor and plate ware. We were seated at a shared table facing the kitchen. I was initially hesitant about the shared table, but we ended up loving the view of the kitchen and the extra attention from the staff that we received. Speaking of the staff, they were wonderful. Our waitress, Maria, was incredibly attentive, knew the (quite robust) food and drink menu inside and out, and made wonderful recommendations based on our preferences. She recommended an orange wine that I'm working on hunting down so that I can have it at home and a cocktail for my husband that was amazing. We also were checked on at different points by various other staff members, but never in a way that felt intrusive or disruptive- they are perfectly attentive and predicted our every want and need before we asked. Finally, the food. We do our best to try as many new restaurants as we can, and among all the ones we've visited in the last year, Bar Vlaha stands out. Every dish we ordered was absolutely spectacular. The portions are generous and we ended up taking food home- something that rarely happens at tapas bars. From their homemade bread and butter (seriously, I didn't know butter could taste so good) to their dips, which we basically licked off the plate, to the meat and vegetable dishes, it was impossible to choose a favorite. That being said, get the beef cheek- you won't regret it! We were so excited to eat, I forgot to take pictures of all our dishes. It was THAT good. We will absolutely be back- many times. As a last note- to the person who gave Bar Vlaha a two star review because you couldn't walk in on a Friday night- I'm not sure if you're from out of town or just stupid, but this is a GREAT, NEW restaurant and for you to ding them for not making an exception for you on one of the busiest nights of the week is immature. The next time we came we were excited to try the dinner menu. Unfortunately it was somewhat of a disappointment. The service was excellent but the food was not as good as the first time. The trout was a little too buttery and too salty. The chicken was tender but also too salty. The cauliflower dish was incredible and all the grilled meats were cooked to perfection (we had both the lamb chops and the pork chops). Also super gluten free and dairy free friendly - I couldn't believe how many options I had. The bar game is on point too! So many creative cocktails and all perfectly well balanced!
