Very crunchy and yummy + they have four different sauces for you to mix up the flavors: Horseradish mayo, chipotle mayo, curry ketchup (which they should really rename to tamarind ketchup or chutney ketchup) and regular ketchup. The horseradish mayo and the curry ketchup were my two favorites. For the burger I settled on The Ruby with the wild boar patty, as recommended. It was a bit on the dry side but I expected that from a patty made from lean meat. The flavors were good and the wild boar meat complimented the pastrami. I also played with the flavors by using some of the horseradish mayo and the curry ketchup - which worked surprisingly well. First off, the waitress was really nice. Explained to us the menu and where everything was. The booth seats were really roomy and decorations at the restaurant was trendy and unique. We ordered a elk bare sliders, bison bare sliders, fries and onion ring combo, banana foster milkshake and a blueberry soda. The elk sliders tasted delicious. The texture of the meat was similar to a turkey burger. The bison slider was good. The fries and onion ring combo was big. Came with 4 different dipping sauce. Not sure what the flavors were but was tasty. The blueberry soda was a little sweet. The milkshake was cool. Came in a metal shaker where you have to pour you milkshake into a glass cup with caramel. Overall, food was good. A lot of different types of meat to choose from for the sliders. Service was excellent and friendly. This is my favorite Bareburger location. I've been a few of them, but the atmosphere in this place seems the most friendly with the natural lighting and large space. The staff know what they're talking about and can even suggest a good craft beer to go with my meal. Don't come here if you're on a diet. The burgers are huge and delicious. First you choose what kind of bread you want with your burger: brioche or multi-grain. Get brioche. Why get multi-grain if you're having a greasy and hearty meat patty. You can't go wrong with anything else on the menu. The sweet potato croqs are a favorite or mine. Definitely coming back in the future. I've been to SEVERAL Bareburger locations and have always had amazing customer experience with the exception of this location. The service was HORRIBLE. I'm only giving two stars because the food came out good and they gave us free drinks and fries for the "inconvenience". Where do I begin? It took about 10 minutes for anyone to even come and take our drink order and when they did we obviously ordered our food. They were not apologetic or friendly at all. Our drinks took another 5-10 minutes to come out and our fries about 20 minutes. At other Bareburger locations we have gotten our fries in 5 minutes. I also want to mention that the restaurant was nearly empty so even if they were short staffed, they could have been more attentive. The food finally came out about after an hour. The servers were clearly not communicating because no one came back to check on us for AWHILE. It took us another 15 minutes once we asked for our check for them to even come back and we had to actually go find someone to get our check paid and no one was in sight. The manager came out and apologized once but the servers were NOT FRIENDLY OR PERSONABLE at all. Which is very strange as every other Bareburger location they have been great. I plan on reaching out to corporate about this location because I was very disappointed and know that Bareburger is much better than this. Recently have ordered delivery a couple of times for a burger and for some reason now they use smash burgers for their burger patties. Not every place can pull of smash burgers and this is that place. If you are going to have that at least have the option of having the regular burger patty or a smash patty. Unnecessary change, if something is aint broke dont fix it. This trend of places switching to smash pattie is ridiculous as i said not every place can pull it off. My boyfriend and I came here nearly once a week, until we both caught the worst food poisoning of our lives after eating here. I won't go into gory detail but I am 7 months pregnant and it is now Friday and neither of us have been able to eat normally since our meal there Sunday night which must have been contaminated with an incredibly nasty bacteria. We called the restaurant Monday and spoke to Eric who claimed to be a 'manager' but didn't have much to say except that no one else called with this issue. Came in on a early Saturday evening. Was seated right away at one of the back booths since it was relatively empty. We made our own burgers with a brioche bun, turkey burger, vegan American cheese, avocado, sunny side up egg, caramelized onions, and mayo. We also orders colas and french fries along with sweet potato fries and onion rings. We were quite hungry! Service was not very attentive, but that can be typical of chain establishments. Our sides were brought out first and the server brought the wrong burger out. We had to wait quite a while before our actual burgers came out, which was frustrating because we had completely filled up on the sides. I frequent this location because I enjoy eating high quality ingredients and because it's in the neighborhood. This is my favorite burger place by far in my neighborhood! We've been with girl there or with friends and nothing ever let us down. My partner and I have been very excited to try Bareburger. It's just what the 'hood needed and we couldn't wait to go! With that, we left satisfied and hopeful they work out the kinks. The decor is awesome! It's approachable, comfortable, and really well designed. The crowd like very young, casual, and dare I say .. hipster. The waitress, Natalee, was really sweet and accomodating. I ordered the Spicy Bacon Elk Burger (done medium) with no lettuce and he ordered the Original Turkey Burger with no onions and special sauce on the side. We both ordered a side of fries as well. Mine came out okay, but his came out with onions and special sauce. No biggie. But no fries either. I took a bite of my burger and it was beyond rare ... it was inedibly rare. I asked Natalle to take care of it and she did quickly and apologetically. I also asked her for our fries. The burger came back (sans fries) and it was delicious! But, magically it had lettuce on it (see 3rd paragraph) which was odd, but otherwise the burger = amazing! It was super tasty! My partner really enjoyed his burger too (but it was also rare). Overall, we were pleased. At the end of the meal, Natalee asked us if we needed anything else and we reminded her of our fries. She was again very apologetic and quickly rushed off to speak to the kicthen. A short while later, a bus boy asked us if we needed anything. We said we were waiting on fries. A little while later we stopped Natalee and reminded her again ... Once the fries made it to the table, they were definitely worth it! Hot, fresh, and with 3 sauces on the side. One is curry ketchup and it's heavenly! The bill came to $25.97 (she charged us for the fries) which is a little pricey, but will be worth it when they improve their service. Gamey on the end of the tasting... meaning the aftertaste was a bit gamey but I dont mind gamey if its good... in a gamey way.. This was on the short list of places my girlfriend wanted to eat at when I came to visit. She was in the mood for burgers and she really liked this place because it was close to her apartment, had good beers and tasty. They have a lot of options here for patties besides the usual beef but all of them are organic free range, even a *cringe* veggie burger but they also have bison and ostrich options as well. When we went the back patio was open and it was a nice little space, it really felt like a backyard patio in someone's garden. I ordered swiss turkey bacon burger with bison meat (their recommendation.) The bison meat has a bit of sweetness to it and the swiss was smooth and mild, the turkey bacon was all right, but I think if it had BACON bacon it would be better. My gf got the avocado California burger (fortunately, not with the recommended veggie patty.) She couldn't finish so I had a bit of it and the avocado in it was really awesome! Not bad for what could have been a vegetarian option. Since there were two of us my girl thought the basket of fries and rings was a good idea; it was, the fries were really good and while I'm not a huge fan of onion rings the ones here were really good and the dipping sauces were on it. They have a rotating selection of beers from different smaller breweries. I had Ommegang wit and she got the Abita purple haze in their big 25 oz mugs. Both are good beers and I really think they pick their beers to complement their food, it fit that seamlessly. The only thing is the size of their burgers, it's definitely 6oz PRE-cooked. Not a good performance.... The food looks fantastic, but it ends there. If your going to charge big boy prices, expect big expectations. Two small burgers and shared fries/ rings, two milkshakes and a kids meal = $54.00 The oil in the fryer clearly needed to be changed, the onion rings were dripping oil, ( I said to our cheery server " they are very greasy" she says "Yes, I know!" so why did she not warn me before?) for me not to eat something it has to be horrid and they were 1*. Fries were better but no more than 3* but I like soggy chips. The tiny burger was ok, but to be honest after 2/3 bites I was bored of it and wanted it to end. 2* if I paid $5-6 for the burger it would be 3-4* but this thing cost $10-11... The milkshake was vanilla ice cream with a banana blended in for $6.95. If you get vanilla like my wife then you get ice cream and milk... But is wasn't rubbish, it was the best part of the meal so 3* The surroundings were 4-5* it was exactly what I wanted this great burger place to be... Then I sank my teeth in to the food. It's rare to have such a strong craving for onion rings, but it hit me last Tuesday afternoon and what better place to indulge said craving than the organic burger mecca of BareBurger. There is absolutely nothing healthy about deep fried fat slices of battered white onion, but the medley of dipping sauces that accompany your order make it almost gourmet. They have inspired me to experiment at home and create my own concoctions. The last star is left off this review because my egg sandwich was a bit runny (the whites were not entirely cooked) and kind of plain as compared to the spectacle that is their burgers. I thoroughly enjoyed an Original Bareburger -- it was a fairly large burger (to me, at least) but I ate every last bite of it! The fries were superb as well -- I just wish they were a little more generous with the dipping sauces. My fave was the spicy chipotle mayo! I love the idea behind the restaurant and that everything is organic/grass-fed, etc. I also think it's neat that you can get options besides the typical beef or chicken options. Regardless, I would certainly return to this place any time I was in the area, because it's just THAT delicious and fulfilling. The tables are rustic, with a family of honey/condiment bears and recycled paper napkins. The service is smiley and sweet, and the ambiance buzzing. The bun is phenomenal if that says anything they appreciate quality. My friend had the build your own and went with the quinoa burger! He was very impressed. I ordered a original bareburger with bison. My boyfriend ordered the pesto red pepper burger with ostrich. After trying both, we promptly switched. I've had bison several times, but didn't care for it here. It was extremely gamey, and had an overwhelming flavor that I wasn't expecting and did not like one bit. The ostrich, on the other hand, was wonderful. It was exceptionally lean and went extremely well with the mozzarella and pesto mayo. I never would have thought to order this, but I can say with certainty that were I to return here, it would be for this burger. However, whether I will choose to return or not remains to be seen. I didn't like the ambiance at Bareburger, and I didn't care for the hipster vibe that they seem to be going for. I feel like they're trying to make people believe that they're offering up health food just because everything is organic. There's nothing healthy about it: fries cooked in peanut oil are still fries. Spicy chipotle mayo is still mayo.And a milkshake made with organic ice cream has just as many calories as the milkshakes you find at McDonald's. We ordered the fried pickles. While good, they were a rip off. We're talking 12 sliced pickles, at the most, accompanied by horseradish mayo. Completely not worth it. Our total came out to around $40, without tip. I have been a loyal customer at the original Bareburger on 31st Avenue in Astoria, Queens since the day they opened numerous years ago. Which is why I had to write this review, something that I have only done once before. The food was pure and delicious many years ago but since they have changed the menu numerous times the quality has since deteriorated significantly, so much that after today I am hanging up on them. Bareburger is definitely not what it used to be. I went for dinner and the service wasn't good, the table where we were seated was dirty and the floor below that table was full of French fries and ketchup, that never got cleaned. I ordered a chicken Sandwich and it wasn't good at all. The bread was cold and burnt, the chicken was squishy, and the bacon was very fat, and the price does not match the quality of the food. I didn't enjoy my visit and will not be coming back. I hope they improve their service, cleanliness and food. read more
