Came in on a Saturday night after my first pick of a bar was "closed for renovations" and I had to give my Uber driver a quick alternate location. I chose this one simply because at quick glance, it was the next highest rated one on Yelp that was on the same street. It wasn't very busy but had a bit of a crowd. I got a seat at the bar right away. The bartender Carlos was awesome. They apparently have over 700 whiskeys!! Carlos helped me pick one (and didn't purposely pick a crazy expensive one like a jerk which was appreciated). I ordered the antipasti pizza as well. It was good. Different, but totally edible (I'm from NJ so we are opinionated about our pizza). It was a good personal size (if you're hungry) but could have also been shared between two. It has a very thick, fluffy crust and I'd say it occupies 1/3 of the actual slice. So it's good if you're into that. There is this housemade vinaigrette stuff in a glass bottle that people there put on the pizza (not sure if that's a Baltimore thing or what). It was good. Not my thing personally but, still tasty and made eating all that carby crust less monotonous. The whiskey was good. Carlos engaged in light, breezy conversation with me while also having a low-key, watchful eye kinda vibe when the drunk men would come up and talk to me. I don't need help in those situations but it's comforting to know someone is at least paying attention, ya know? I always get a pizza, salad amd wings when I go here. The food is always hot and tasty. I like that they serve the pizza on paper plates. It's a no hassle kind of place. There are also games if you want to spend time there with friends. I haven't been to their whiskey Wednesday yet but I hear the selection is wonderful. There is only street parking. This place is a hidden gem. My wife brought me here because of her love of bourbon but I fell in love with the pizza. The staff is friendly and very knowledgeable. I adore bar fly! It's one of my favorite whiskey bars in Baltimore. Hubby and I randomly stopped here one night for a drank and had one of the best night. Had the small side salad and an Italian hot cut. The small side salad for $4.00 was the perfect size for me and had plenty of cucumbers, green pepper, tomato, onion and feta cheese. Try the house dressing! It's on every table and is delish! The Italian hot cut was also very good with just the amount of cheese to be gooey but not messy. Let me tell you how it is. 1) Barfly's basically offers three things on their menu that you need to know about: salads, stuffed subs, and pizza. If you've never had a stuffed sub before, you need it. In your mouth. Now. The antipasto salad is amazing (and they have a pretty great house dressing) and their pizzas have the best thick crispy crusts. The Boy thinks the crust sort of resembles sourdough, which I don't know, might be right? Either way, it's good. 2) On Mondays, all drinks are $3.50. That's right, $3.50. Except for like, bombers. Which is fine because that's still an awesome deal. 3) If you can't find street parking, you're usually guaranteed to be able to park at the Shoppers lot and walk over. I love Barfly's. I'm a recent convert. My roommate and her boyfriend have been going forever, but only recently have they started dragging me along. And thanks to them for that--this place is awesome. It isn't ever too crowded--even on Friday, during prime happy hour time, there's room to move and never a line for the bathroom. The drinks are priced on the same level as the rest of the neighborhood, but they've got great beers on tap. I enjoyed SEVERAL Franziskaners on Friday. Their pizza is world-class, with this great Parmesan crust thing going on, and it's served with this awesome garlicky salad dressing. The bartenders are great, the atmosphere is friendly. I am seriously disappointed by this place! I read the good reviews and thought the pizza sounded great, but it was seriously meh. Maybe it was an off night? Was there something I was missing? Yes, it's deep dish, but besides that it was nothing special. I feel like there are way better places to get pizza in the city, e.g. DiPasquale's, Isabella's, Hersch's, & Zella's just to name a few. The beer selection was pretty good but the server didn't have that great of knowledge about any of them. The service was also meh. Maybe if you keep drinking a lot they're nicer? I felt like the server was getting along a lot nicer with the table next to us (which kept ordering more shots) but didn't seem keen on our party eating pizza and just drinking a few beers. read more

I checked out Barfly's on a friends recommendation and I have to say, this place did not disappoint. Atmosphere was great, very clean and inviting. There were three big TV's at the bar showing the college football games but they were not overbearing. Service was attentive and very friendly. There were some interesting microbrews on tap, including Tupper's Hop Pocket Ale which I haven't seen around very much. Prices are reasonable. The pizza is fantastic. They only come in one size, but two 10" pies was more than enough for the three of us. I'm not usually a fan of the deep-dish style, but this is an exception. The crust was light and perfectly cooked, not doughy. The cheese was fresh and not overloaded, and the sauce and toppings were tasty. I'll definitely be stopping by Barfly's again. read more

Loud, live music greeted my boyfriend and I when we came here with our two friends who live in the neighborhood. Under our friends' recommendation, we ordered the spinach pizza pie. Bf and I shared the cold cut Italian sandwich. Food was good, and I thought it was nice how the bartenders checked in on us, especially since we were sitting at the bar. Federal Hill is definitely growing on me. There are quite a few spots that I would be happy to call my neighborhood bar. Barfly's is one. It could be yours too, and should be if you like whiskey; they have about 170 or so different types, and the number keeps growing. I snagged a few seats at the bar, a couple of beers and ordered pizzas while having a nice chat with some folks sitting by the corner and the bartender - Mike. He is fantastic at his job, certainly knows his whiskeys and manages to keep service running smoothly as the only one there. The hot and spicy pizza is exactly as promised. Barfly's pizza is your deep dish style - similar to Matthew's. Not always my go to, but it was chilly and rainy, so it was the perfect pie. This one is loaded with toppings - red sauce with pepperoni and onions. The spicy part comes from the hot peppers and pepperoncinis. I like that they use a blend cheeses - parmesan & mozzarella - which balances the flavors. Since I don't love the red sauce on pizzas, I also went with a Spinach White Pie. The white sauce is a little garlicky and creamy, and the pizza was topped with spinach, fresh garlic, onion and a blend of the same cheeses plus feta. It usually comes with mushrooms, but they were out of those, so we got to add whatever topping we wanted - we went with pepperoni. All the pizzas come with their "special sauce" which I think is kind of like a ceased with some extra garlic and maybe some extra parm, since it is rather thick. read more

I've been coming here for years. They treat ya right and always offer very appropriate drink suggestions. Clearly, the pizza and dressing are amazing. But the chill atmosphere and outstanding staff make this more than just a place to stop for ten minutes. Nice low key lighting, good throwback music, and relevant games on the television all make for a night that can keep rolling until close. I enjoy Barflys very much. I was super excited to try Barfly's both because the reviews for their pizza were superb and I'd passed it countless times. It's a little hole in the wall local neighborhood bar that always is lively, but would be easy to miss if you don't know what you're looking for. They're known for their drinks and their pizza! The pizza was definitely good, but I wouldn't say it was lifechanging. We got the veggie platter to start and I was really impressed by how fresh and tasty the veggies were. It came with a great ranch dip. I ordered a sausage pizza (create your own with Roma's sausage) and it came out decently fast. The service here was excellent! Our waiter explained to us they make the dough fresh every morning and all the ingredients are freshly prepared. The style of the pizza crust reminded me of Chicago deep dish. I definitely enjoyed my pizza, but I think next time I'll try something with more toppings because the plain sausage was a little lacking for me. Went a little late with our two small kids- note- this place is NOT kid friendly as Yelp suggests. It's not that they're kid-unfriendly, it's that it's a bar first, and while kids can eat there, it's not somewhere I'd bring them again. We had an issue with our order, and it took over an hour for it to come out. The lady with blonde short, curled hair was VERY sweet and accommodating- she kept us filled in on what was going on, as well as approximately how much longer it would be. The male bartender hardly made eye contact with us when we arrived, and he rushed by us several times, and was pretty rude. The lady on the other hand, was amazing. To her credit, she did get my son's cheese pizza out very quickly, as we had hoped/planned for. It was only okay- there wasn't much sauce on it, and the cheese was browned to a crisp, on top of crispy dough. He ate it though, but it wasn't like some super yummy cheesy pizza. The crust was perfection though- I loved it! Our food finally came out and my white spinach pizza wasn't very good. It tasted like a pizza version of quiche. I wasn't expecting that at all... the buffalo chicken pizza was my favorite. It was just as it should have been, and I'd go back just to order that (IF she was serving us, not the rude guy) My dad had the hot and spicy and he was happy with it. The wings came after our pizza (they were supposed to be an appetizer) and they were good, but nothing to write home about at all. We ate quickly so we could leave soon. I couldn't tell you what beers my dad and brother had, but they were happy with them. The manager or cook came out to personally apologize to us too- that was very nice. I feel bad that they were apologizing so much, but was glad that they were genuine about it. They ended up taking our drinks (a very watery, not-yummy Shirley Temple and a few beers) and the wings off our check. We didn't ask them to do that... honestly it wasn't worth the wait. But they seemed to genuinely care about whatever mistake made us have to wait so long, and because of that, and because of that buffalo chicken pizza, I'll be back. Another pizza place to add to the books! Very similar crust (thick and chewy) to Mathews in Fell's, which I quite enjoy as long as I'm in the mood! There were a lot of different options for specialty pizzas. The pizzas itself are a little larger than a personal size... if you're super hungry you may be able to finish one, but if there is another food can definitely be split. Another place I've walked by 100 times without going in, but am certainly happy Word-of-Mouth got to me about Barfly's. The bar space is small, but clean and windows are wide open when it is nice out. There is limited seating in the back, but when you have a table and order one of the personal pizza options it is definitely worth a short wait. I have never written a yelp review because I think is a waste of time but after last night I felt the need. I was at barfly's last night (Friday) and the female bartender was really nasty and plain rude to a lady picking up to go. She had a Postmates bag so I'm assuming she was working? I've been there several times and she's always has been nasty to guest. Regulars have told me that she's not an owner but she's always rude to people. How as a business owner can you have somebody working like that? You've lost my business because no human being should ever be allto act like that to a lady just trying to do her job. Update : I don't know if the other female bartender was let go or not but against my better judgement we went in on Saturday night and I'm glad We did. We got wonderful service by all Including the newest female bartender kacey. She was wonderful and friendly even when their computer went down, they all stayed cool and collected. Stopped in while on a business trip in Baltimore. I was skeptical at first of a whiskey bar that also serves pizza, but I was pleasantly surprised. The pizza is really good and the house ranch dip is legit. I had a Boh because you know, Baltimore (and I wasn't sure about drinking whiskey while eating pizza), but the whiskey selection is impressive. Also, the bar sells bottles of whiskey on Wed and Thurs nights for great prices, which is unique. The place looks like a straight up dive on the outside, but once you step inside, it looks like a proper bar/restaurant, and the ambiance is quite nice. The bartenders are really nice and helpful, and there are def regulars who frequent this place. It's a great place to meet with people and actually talk to them because it isn't too noisy. I highly recommend and will be back when I'm in Baltimore next. read more

Very mixed feelings about this place. First of all, the pizza is delicious. It's essentially the same pizza that you can get at Matthew's or Our House, great deep dish crust. The chicken club pizza was especially great. Also, the bartender was friendly and helped us choose some new beers to try. Now, the problems. The service was a little slow, and it wasn't very busy in there. But the biggest issue was the food that ISN'T the pizza. We ordered 2 appetizers, the caprese skewers and the garlic bread. The skewers weren't anything special, pretty much just cherry tomatoes and the small balls of mozzarella you can buy at Harris Teeter, on a skewer with a little balsamic. But the garlic bread was one of the worst appetizers/dishes I've ever had at a restaurant. It was literally a (non-toasted) sub roll, served open, with sliced cheese melted on it and a little garlic. I hate to send back a dish, but I came pretty close, because it was ridiculous. Maybe the least effort I've seen put into a dish when dining out. Bottom line, the pizza is very good, and stick to that half of the menu like your life depended on it. read more
