The NUMBA 19 is the reason this place is legendary. Hand-cut pastrami, double-baked rye that somehow stays crisp on the outside and soft inside, Russian dressing, coleslaw -- it's balanced in a way most pastrami sandwiches aren't. The meat is peppery, smoky, and falls apart with zero effort. This isn't a sandwich you eat quickly; it's one you savor bite by bite because every layer actually matters. The bread is to fucking die for, it's unbeatable. The #44 deserves almost as much credit. It's got that classic Reuben backbone but with its own identity -- the sauerkraut isn't overpowering, the cheese melts perfectly into the meat, and the bread holds up under all of it without turning soggy. If the #19 is the showstopper, the #44 is the sleeper hit that proves this kitchen isn't a one-trick pony. Their brisket is delicious as well. Want to go back to try their french dip offerings What elevates the whole experience is the staff. There's a warmth here that you don't often find in a spot this busy and this famous -- no attitude, no rush, just genuine hospitality. The counter guys and servers move with real charisma, cracking jokes, checking in, making you feel like a regular even on your first visit. It's clear a lot of the staff have been there for years, and that kind of institutional knowledge and pride shows in how they treat every table. Langer's earns the hype. Come for the pastrami, stay for literally everything else ! I truly hope this place doesn't close down once Mr. big cheese croaks (which he himself declares) Dori Me Amen.

I had no idea if LANGER'S was as good as I had heard others rave. Today, being in the area on business over to HACLA, I decided to drive a 1/2 mile (approx) east on Wilshire (at Rampart), to the southeast corner of Alvarado & 8th Street. Circled LANGER'S block once, as parking is not too easy to come by, but I found one metered space across the west side of Alvarado right across from LANGER'S. I parked and crossed the street. Once inside, a very courteous female voice greeted: "WELCOME". Turns out it was the voice of SHAE, one of the Hostesses. I immediately held her at attention as I proceeded to tell Shae, the story you just read of how long I've know of LANGER'S but never stopped in. I also suggested to Shae, to go to YOUTUBE and search for one of HUEL HOUSER'S "VISITING" segments. HUEL featured LANGER'S on the segment entitled, "COW TONGUE / VISITING WITH HUELL HOUSER!" Shae promised she'd look it up. Well, for now, let's just tell you: LANGER'S had been slated (last year) to close its doors forever. And I was appalled (at the thought) I'd NEVER enjoyed a PASTRAMI or COW TONGUE sandwich. As of tonight, I got a belly full of a very delicious cow tongue deli sandwich, my wife, the pastrami and we're fine. Try one! You won't regret it. BTW, if you call (and you CAN) your order by phone or on line, they provide curbside service. One of my featured photos shows that PICKUP section. OK! For now, that's it and thanks!

Order online and have some jump out of the car to pick up your order. There is no seating inside but maybe a chair or two outside. The neighborhood is a little rough around the edges so you may want to get that food to go. We tried three sandwiches and they were all huge. The crispy chicken caesar wrap is phenomenal and I am not one who usually orders this particular sandwich anywhere. It comes with a creamy sauce that I might have drank directly from the little cup. The wrap is packed full of chicken and it is refreshing and excellent. It doesn't look huge but trust me, the wrap is packed full and you will be plenty satisfied. The Antonia sandwich comes with turkey, cheese, avocado, tomato, and garlic aioli. It isn't all that unique a creation but for what it is, it is very fresh and very good. It came loaded with delicious turkey. The Martha sandwich (chicken salad, apples, fennel, argula, herbs, etc.) is on special right now. Personally, I am not a big chicken salad guy but you get a lot of it and the person in our party who ordered it liked it a lot. We also tried the arancini and they were excellent. You get three arancini balls and fantastic vodka sauce on the side. This is a winner. To be honest, practically the entire menu sounds great to me. They have quite a few locations and I feel like I will be trying them again soon.

It's been around for decades and has served tons of patrons over the years. Inside is huge with all sorts of tables and booths so it can host many different sized groups from small to large. It's located in a small shopping center so there is plenty of free parking attached directly in front, which is extremely convenient. Our server was very polite and everything that we ordered came out very fast. For this visit, I started off with a cup of the Chili and thought it was actually really good. I am a huge fan of chili and don't often get some that I really love, but this was definitely one of those. Next came the Mini Blintzes and these were pretty nice. I prefer a full Blintz because it has a lot more cheese and filling, but still these were a nice start, especially if are were new to this appetizer. For my entrée, I chose the Pastrami Reuben and thought it was great. It was honestly huge and I even forgot to take a picture of it because I was excited to eat it. I would suggest if you are a fan of Rubens and would suggest this restaurant in general if you like a good deli.

People were friendly and service was fairly quick. Overall, the sandwich was really well done. The fresh rye bread was so lovely. It was crispy crunchy and had a nice toastiness to it. The meat was flavorful, not too salty, and moist. And the sauerkraut added a nice crunchy tang. All in all, the sandwich was delicious and devoured in under 20min. It was plenty for both my husband and I to share a single sando. For the sides, the steak fries needed a lil salt but otherwise a decent filler side. The slaw was creamy and crisp and very refreshing. The pickles were a little under pickled and tasted a lil more cucumber-y than we'd like. Overall a solid experience and we'd visit again when we're back in the area.

If you're visiting the area, I highly recommend making a stop here. My biggest piece of advice is to go early because it gets incredibly busy by lunchtime--and for good reason! Keep in mind they are closed on Monday and Tuesday. While you can order online, I'll always choose to go inside so I can browse everything they have to offer. Their selection of fresh pasta salads is fantastic, and the desserts are always tempting. Whether you're craving lasagna, spaghetti and meatballs, a chicken Parmesan sandwich, or one of their many other Italian specialties, you really can't go wrong. Be sure to check out the wine section in the back left of the market. It's extensive and absolutely incredible! This is the kind of place that keeps people coming back year after year, and it's easy to see why. Being Italian American and growing up with an Italian mother who loved feeding everyone, this was one of our favorite places to visit together. Those memories make every trip here even more special. My personal favorite is the Godmother sandwich--hands down one of the best you'll ever have. It's packed with flavor, made with quality ingredients, and it's the sandwich I find myself craving every time I come back. One of the things I love most about this place is the atmosphere. It has an energy that immediately makes you think of family. Everyone is genuinely kind, welcoming, and happy to help, making you feel right at home the moment you walk through the door. It has that warm, old-school Italian family vibe that's becoming harder and harder to find, and it's a big part of what makes this place so special.
