This was our first stop of bar hopping in the Gaslamp District and it was a nice start. There are lots of seats and it could be confusing because there were plenty of tables that had the reserved sign. The kitchen service does cut off after a certain time so you will not be able to order drinks. The fries were crunchy. The ketchup was strange - it was like sweet but a very strong tomato flavor. I was not a fan of the ketchup. I did like my drink though. I got the cherry mule and that was a really tasty drink. There are lots of windows and open air. When it gets cold, they do pull the windows down so it's not a chilly area. read more

Such a cool spot and environment! The place is really clean and big! Went during lunch time. Hostess was kind and very welcoming. Actually good for kids and they have the cutest kid menu. We got the pizza with apple slices! Also tried their michelada and it was really good. Def recommend. 10/10. *note: only with pacifico* I wasn't sure whether to get a salad or hamburger (it all looks so good) ended up getting a salad. My server, Monze was really sweet, attentive and she had great recommendations! (If she's there when you visit this place, ask for her, she's absolutely great! I got the Baby Spinach, i got a half serving with add grilled chicken! It was still a lot haha. 8/10 only because it had a dramatic amount of dressing. I would've got it on the side aside from that it was really good. At night this place also gets really fun! After a padres game or just a regular night out, they also have a speakeasy downstairs called Gingers, they play a lot of good music. SO SO GROSS! So disappointed in this restaurant. My husband and I loved this place and would frequent it when we would visit San Diego and we won't be here again. My husband and I got two drinks before their happy hour started and and two additional rounds of drinks after fact. We both decided to share the poke nachos. Our waitress was quick and nice. When we received our first plate of poke nachos we saw a foreign object that was NOT part of our nachos. We quickly called our waitress over and she was super quick to go to the kitchen to show them what was presented on our plate. My husband and I just shrugged it off and did not give our girl a hard time. We understand things happen. You would think there would be an abundance of caution given the state of things. Regardless she said she was putting in another order for us. We continued to enjoy our beverages and the manager walked out with our new plate of poke nachos. He placed it down and had a quick apology. The thing that got me was that, we were SO chill about the very big mistake and in no way made a scene. We got our bill and there was no discount, or any type of adjustment to our meals or drinks. Even a 10% off would have been sufficient. Nothing, zip, nada. Not only did they waste our time but also made us weary and cautious with our food. I have a photo and timestamp of when our first plate arrived. We stopped at Barleymash on Sunday for our pre-Padres game lunch. We found two seats at the bar and were welcomed in by a cheerful Katie. I ordered a pint of Pacifico and Becky had a 12 oz. can of Ashland Seltzer. We asked for menus and Katie handed us a brunch menu. Ugh. As with many places downtown, brunch only on weekends until later in the afternoon. Nothing on the brunch menu jumped out at us so we finished our drinks and moved on. $10 for the Pacifico and $10.50 for the can of seltzer. Barleymash is another one of those establishments that adds that annoying pre-tax 4% surcharge. Stop with the surcharge! read more

The vibe here is great and so was the service (I got you, JJ with the eyelashes!). I can tell this is a fun place on a weekend night, particularly if you're looking to meet people. Located on a street corner with ample indoor and outdoor seating, it's set up to talk to your neighbor and has a very friendly vibe thanks to the staff. JJ was attentive and friendly. I was there with my carb-loving 17-yr-old and we ordered the soft pretzels (yum! But needs twice as much cheese sauce), the plain iron fries (smothered in uber-creamy 3-cheese sauce (not flavorful enough for me for all those calories), and the chicken Caesar salad, which was fairly tasty, but a bit high maintenance with the giant Parmesan crisp you had to keep breaking with your fingers (and getting g greasy). I feel like anyone can make decently tasty food with enough grease, cheese and carbs. It was decent. I didn't have a cocktail or beer because of aforementioned 17-yr-old and it being lunchtime, so I can't speak to that. read more

Our server was so kind and very attentive, especially because we were a pretty big group. Went with my husbands friends who rave about the chicken tenders and I found them to be alright. I sent back my tomato soup because it tasted worse than canned soup. The Mac and cheese with shrimp was pretty flavorful. The food was mediocre and I found it disappointing. I've been here twice and each time it was because there was no other place that could quickly accommodate on a night of club/bar crawling. Upon walking in, it seems like just another place to gather massive groups of people in a square room full of TVs. There is no subcultural aesthetic or statement being made in the room. You can tell that it was designed to be as welcoming and approachable as possible for people who don't go out often or subscribe to a specific fashion statement. Also, each time I've gone, the room was always filled with an array of traveling business men searching for pretty faces and a night cap--I'm not complaining about that but it was noted ;) The overall experience here feels comfortable like that of a chain family restaurant but what bumps it up is the downstairs pub/karaoke room. It can be a little exciting on a busy night but it can feel lackluster if there aren't enough people in the room to revel in that fun night out feeling. One surprise is that the food is actually decent, especially the salads. A half size is a whopping portion! I'm a big eater so I was pleasantly surprised. The guys who sat with us ordered a steak and potatoes type of entree and it also looked "worth it" for the area. This downtown spot was hopping when we came for a Friday dinner. Their location is about as central as you can get in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. Luckily, there was no wait for an outside table so we were seated quickly and enjoyed watching people strolling down the sidewalk past us during our meal. The menu had a lot of items that were shareable plates so it's great for groups. The Iron Fries seemed like a popular item so we ordered the San Diego version. This heaping plate of french fries was topped with red chili-braised short ribs, pepper jack beer-cheese sauce, sour cream, spicy guacamole, and salsa fresca. I didn't know if we would be able to finish the dish, but somehow the fries were polished off without difficulty. We also tried one of the barleymacs which was cavatappi noodles covered with a poblano beer-cheese sauce, pepper jack beer-cheese sauce, three-cheese blend, and bread crumbs. The Duck, Duck, Goat was our choice which came with a spiced duck confit, crispy duck skin, goat cheese, baby arugula and a balsamic-Jager drizzle. I loved how the noodles weren't overly creamy, and the duck meat really gave a nice salty flavor to the dish. I certainly would recommend this place to anyone wanting to try elevated bar food if you don't mind dining in a noisy ambiance. read more

With a plentiful amount of televisions and draft beer selections, overall service was timely and adequate. Make sure you ask to see your bill before they run your card. The bartenders and wait staff will ask you if they can run the card you gave them for your tab and if you say yes, they will tip themselves 25% then give you your card back and ask you to sign on their handheld system. Pay attention and push back! It doesn't show you an itemized receipt, it just gives you a total and you sign your name. I understand tip culture and I will tip a good server/bartender, but these guys are stealing from you, hoping you are too drunk/tipsy to really notice or question. Don't go here guys. It looks like a good time, but this place isn't the real deal. Go to Smoking Gun, Knotty Barrel, Stout, Bubs at the Ball Park or anywhere else. Keep your money safe. read more

Sports bar located in Gas Lamp. Arrived with a party of 3 around 12pm on a Sunday & it was pretty empty, although people started trickling in as time went on. We stayed at the Hyatt hotel by the waterfront & it was only about a 15 minute walk. We had only intended to kill time here for a few hours, so all we did was order drinks. Although they do have a food menu consisting of your usual barfood. Since it's a sports bar, there are TVs mounted at pretty much every angle. There was also a live DJ playing while we were there. I would say the drinks are more on the expensive side, especially considering how expensive things are in general right now. But they are made pretty solidly, & there's even a Bloody Mary bar as well. Service was great, our waitress made the effort to check up on us every now & then even as the restaurant filled up. Atmosphere was pretty lively as well & didn't feel too crowded. I give it props for being in a good location & having good vibes. Will probably stop by again next time in in SD. read more

Food: I've been here 20 times and never noticed I never left a review. Not only is their food amazing but so is the bloody bar during the weekends. The bartender serves you the vodka and ice and you take it to the bloody bar to create your own concoction. As you can see I was pretty hungry too. But they have all the goodies to make the ultimate Bloody Mary. So fun! Service: The bartenders are great and so was the host in front. I've never been here and received bad service. Good selection of beers on the menu, so I can't complain too much The wait staff was a little slow but cordial, especially for a busy Saturday night. The hostesses (plural) seemed quite a bit pompous and hoity-toity and more interested in their phones than the customers waiting to ask for a table. Terrible thing, if you asked me, for a neighbor hood bar joint. Maybe they might have a better attitude towards the larger group "party scene" clientele.
