What a gem! We happened to find this restaurant for lunch by sheer luck as we were driving to check into a nearby hotel. I'm bummed we don't live closer because I know we would be regulars here if we did. From the moment we walked in, we were greeted by the super friendly & accommodating staff. Side note for parents of littles: They ARE kid friendly! Whoop Whoop! A bartender AND a bus boy rushed over to arrange a table for us in the bar area to comfortably seat us, 2 adults and two babes in high chairs. Then about 3 minutes into sitting down our 2 year old began acting up so our adorable waiter offered to bring her some orange slices. Worked like a charm and helped appease her enough to get our orders in and for us all to enjoy some apps. Gosh, that was so nice, right? Can I get an AAAAMEN for that? Now that I'm a mom, I am so EXTREMELY thankful for restaurants and servers who help to make life easier, like they did here. The food was fresh and cooked so well! Food we enjoyed: calamari, fresh oysters, chicken milanese & a burger with fries. We shared (yes, driving with kids=a one drink share rule & the passenger gets more..yay for me this day) a Moscow mule and it was one of the tastiest we've ever had. You have to go here. The food is excellently prepared--you can tell the care put into it (btw, the muscles from Maine are enormous....). The atmosphere is relaxed and welcoming. The service is superb--while I sat here, I literally saw every customer who arrived be greeted by almost every employee as if they were their best customer. This is how you run a restaurant. The food is okay. The decor is appealing. The service/employees are great. This location will give you a headache and potential permanent hearing loss. Don't come here expecting to have a conversation. I am baffled that they won't do anything about the noise. Your ears will be ringing after just a few minutes. I'd give a higher rating if the place wasn't so loud and the wait wasn't so long. Not a bad experience, but definitely can be improved. read more

Found by accident looking for a late night dinner, so good have returned four times! A friendly, cozy, classic New England family style restaurant with a finite menu offering excellent traditional cuisine. The service is excellent and amiable. The dining room is appropriately spacious and quiet. All offerings are good to very good, have not had any one complain as I believe we have tasted everything we have brought over 20 friends). We've past Barn Door a hundred times and saw the parking lot busy. A telltale sign of good food. So we called an made a reservation. Jen was great she found a table last minute. We were served by Bruno who was a happy waiter giving great service. The food was just plain Terrific. I had stuffed Chicken over a bed of Spinach Risotto so tasty and the portion was large. I've been there three times. The white sangria is the best I've ever had. The food is consistently excellent from pizza and burgers to lobster ravioli. The first time the service was also excellent. This was when they first opened. The other two times the service was very slow. We had to ask for water repeatedly. We were never told the specials and bread was never brought to the table. We had to ask for the bread three times of 2 different servers and were finally told it was baking in the oven. It was brought to us after we'd finished our meal. The dessert selection is very varied but everything is good. Just be careful - there are two different pastry chefs and they prepare the tiramisu very differently. The molten cake, cheesecake, and fruit cobblers were all outstanding. I will go back. They just need to get more organized and have better service. The food is worth it. read more

The middle of rural Connecticut not NYC, yet good food, great service and very reasonable price

Unfortunate disappointment. The Barn Door had been on my places to visit being that its local and gets great reviews. The food was reminiscent of diner food back in the 80's. First we received bread and some red paste, both non-existent of flavor, the mysterious red paste baffled both my wife and I as we simply could not identify it. I had the steak and shrimp, which was cooked to perfection but again, zero flavor. The 3 shrimp were good size, had nice bite but must have been boiled or steam solo then placed on plate. All served on top of a bed of frozen french fries. At this price range I expect better then just plain frozen fries. My wife had the ribs which were also served on top of frozen fries and flavorless cole slaw . Ribs were tender and smothered in BBQ sauce. The location is nice, though it was very loud, staff are very nice and service was fine. The food though was a huge disappointment. read more

The service was very good and all the staff was friendly and accommodating. The dining room is smaller but very nice, we were seated near the fireplace on a cold evening. I got the NY strip special which was perfectly cooked with generous portions and I'd say very good. We also got the chicken Milanese which was just good. The crab cake appetizers were average, a little bready in my opinion. Pricing was fair to on the cheaper side. We frequent this place. The servers are awesome and the food is phenomenal. The pizzas are to die for. The shrimp scampi pizza and Mac and cheese pizzas are a family favorite. This place was really cute and the food was good. We waited a bit before someone took our order but the experience was still a positive one. One thing I do want to mention is I purposely made the reservation online to mention that we were going for my boyfriends birthday. I knew if I tried getting up during dinner he would know I was asking the waitress to bring a candle over. So I mentioned that in the notes section of the reservation. I wasn't looking for anything free or what not but there wasn't even an acknowledgment of his birthday. One of the biggest things to make a memorable experience in the food industry is attention to detail and personalization. I was disappointed none of that happened here. read more

This restaurant was ok. I asked for steak and they gave me mushy fatty steak with a green tint. Thinking it was some veggies, i ate it (it was not that good) and when the girl came back our i asked her what the green tint was in the steak and she said she didn't know it didn't have anything on it. other than that the service was really good and the party i went with all enjoyed their meal. Best Happy Hour! Loved the BD Stoly Martini with bleu cheese olives and it's a great surprise 2 for 1 deal!!! The crispy calamari was perfect served with a small roasted pepper and delicious two sauces. The chili lime chicken skewers another great choice and the truffle fries are not to be missed.
