Came here last night with a group of coworkers after our shift. One of my coworkers had forgotten her ID so she went and sat outside, being respectful of the establishment's rules. The bartender then got very hostile with all of us and audibly sighed out of annoyance when I ordered my drink. Whatever, bad night maybe, I get it. Then she went outside and berated my coworker who had forgotten her ID and called her disrespectful and told her she had to leave the premises to which she was very understanding and explained she got a ride with another coworker so she was simply waiting for them to leave. The bartender then said "i mean i'll wait" and stood there staring at my coworker until she left. As a fellow service industry worker this was a very offputting and unsettling experience all around. I understand not having your ID at a bar is a rookie mistake but she didn't push her limits or try to order a drink, she removed herself and patiently waited for us to finish our drinks and leave but this bartender was harrassing everyone and making us all uncomfortable. We all left immediately and will not be returning. So sad because this place is usually our go to for some downtime and relaxation after a stressful shift. BLUF: Lots of whiskeys and bourbons to choose from at fair prices. Pairs well with their bbq (3 star food). I'd go again when I am tired of beer and feeling like more than wine/cocktails This place used to be the Bridge Lounge. This is a step up. NOLA needed a place to go get a strong drink. There are tons to choose from and the prices are farily good; get it by the single or a double or possibly by the bottle. Good stuff. I didnt try a cocktail and the beer choices were pretty standard. You would be going there for the liquor though anyways. The bbq was good but not fantastic. That being said I didnt get to really eat very much. Sharing is hard and frustrating. They have very interesting sandwiches or you can just get the meat. We got a tray that pretty much had everything ($25 and enough for 2 people but not much more than 2 people). I wish I had gotten to eat more but it didnt blow me away. (ribs, pork, brisket, beans, potato salad) Dress nice. It is place for young working professionals showing off that they are young working professionals. Busy bar but bartenders are good. read more

Very cute decor & atmosphere. Our group sampled a few whiskeys via 1oz pours, but I was in the mood for wine. The menu offers 2 whites: Chardonnay & Pinot Grigio. "By the glass" rotates so I guess sometimes the only option is by the bottle. Guess that'll work since it's NOLA & I can take it to go. I ordered a Chardonnay from the blonde bartender & she brought me back a glass of white wine. Oh, I guess I'm in luck & won't need to buy the bottle afterall. Then I smelled it--it wasn't a Chardonnay clearly. I grabbed her attention again & asked if this was the Chardonnay I ordered...she said "Well no, but we didn't have it by the glass." Um...what? So you just gave me whatever & lied about it??? In a bar that serves some very expensive whiskeys I'd be extremely concerned about their integrity & whether or not you're actually getting what they charge you for. I told her if they didn't have it by the glass is just buy the bottle but still want Chardonnay like I ordered. She went to the back for a few minutes before returning to say they didn't carry a Chardonnay at all. Wtf. read more

We went to Barrel Proof after dinner. The whiskey selection is very good. The place was packed with a young lively crowd. Which is great, but having mostly gray hair, we didn't quite blend in. No table service. All orders are at the bar, and that means the bar is very crowded. We didn't get to try the food. We only stayed for one drink because the acoustics make for an extremely loud place. I would like to try this place again, on a more quiet evening. read more

They have a great selection of whiskeys and they do tasting flights which are a fun way to try multiple things when you can't decide. The old fashion is a bit sweet, but overall pretty good. They have limited outdoor seating but there's plenty of seating inside. Happy hour is decent as well. read more

Cocktails were on point and the kitchen they partner with is absolutely delicious. I had trouble finding something on the menus that wasn't fried, but it didn't really matter; my taste buds sang. Atmosphere is dark. Like, really dark. You may find yourself making out with someone with questionable looks in the daylight. But it works for this place. Also, the skull wallpaper in the bathroom made me consider buying my own place again just so I could use it. Go. You won't be disappointed. read more

Two disgusting things about this place: 1-The place smells like frying oil. Especially when it's not full of people. I went there last night around 10pm with a friend and there were 20-25 people inside. We couldn't stand the smell and left. My friend said it smelled the same last weekend 2-I went there a few months ago and I had a Shrimp toast (or whatever). It was one of the most horrible food I had in NOLA in the last 8 years. Seriously. Don't eat it. The only nice thing about this place is that it's close to both downtown and uptown, and people hanging out seems to be good looking young professionals. You can find water almost anywhere in the city. Almost. But you can't find water this good. No, in fact, this water is fucking amazing. Its magical. It does strange and amazing things. Served from an almost magical bottle that keeps the temperature perfect, the water at Barrel Proof flows over the palate with a light, crisp and refreshing taste. After a long day of day drinking , you will feel instantly invigorated, ready for more. Having recently drank from this fountain of youth on a recent visit to Barrel Proof after a long day drinking, I felt recharged. My senses now keen, alerted me to the delicious aroma. Came here on a Monday for happy hour. Fantastic bar and great service. It looks a bit hipster-ish but the bartender was nice and they had a few happy hour specials ($3 Old Fashioned! Not the best I've ever had but did the job). They also have an impressive collection of whiskeys, bourbons, and scotches. The drink list is organized by country of origin. Music wasn't too loud so it was great for having conversations. Very low-lighting so it gives it a bit of a romantic vibe, too. Very cool place overall. read more

Great place for whisky fanatics. If you can name it, they've probably got it. The whisky list goes on for page after page (currently QR code only). And if you are in on a slower night during the week, the tremendously helpful and knowledgeable bartenders will make suggestions and help with your selection. I've even had them customize a flight for me a few times. Don't expect that on the weekends though, as it tends to be jammed with a young crowd. You can also smoke a cigar on the patio if you want. Based on my visit over Memorial Day weekend I advise you to double check the prices - like so many other things they seem to have gone up some since the pandemic, and I had a bit of sticker shock this time. Get the wings and the fries!!! The wings are amazing they are spicy they are sweet you can't go wrong! The fries are also very good and have a nice garlic flavor. They have a huge selection of whisky, and other liquor. The atmosphere is great it's pretty dark in there but has some great mood lighting. The bartender who served us was very rude. She was not friendly with us, overcharged me for a drink and didn't make up for it or apologize, and then took our money without giving us change?! My friend and I both got drinks that were $12.25. I paid $13 and my friend paid $15, in cash, as we were expecting to get change, and then leave a dollar tip per drink. She didn't give our change back, though. It was so weird. I've never been to a bar where the bartender just assumed the leftover change was her tip. She shortchanged herself on my end, but took nearly $3 from my friend. She also made me the wrong drink, with a cheaper whiskey, and then casually told me so without refunding me the difference in whisky prices, giving me a reduced price on my second drink, or offering to make me the correct drink. This place may be better with a different bartender, but the woman who served my friend and I may have been one of the worst bartenders I've encountered. read more

On a recent hot Saturday night I was looking for a bar to grab a drink. Not a huge fan of the bro-ey tourist filled French Quarter bars, I went looking for something off the beaten path. Luckily I found Barrel Proof which seems to be occupied with local hipsters somewhere between college age to possibly 30 somethings (or thats what I told myself so I didn't feel so damn old at the bar). Barrel Proof looks like an abandoned general store from the outside and like a hip cabin on the inside--complete with taxidermy decorations. Its located in the lower Garden District and a 15 minute walk from the Convention Center area. That being said, if you are a tourist I would suggest taking a cab rather than making the 15 minute trek across an empty, dark Magazine Street. Although this place seems to be the exception and not the rule to the standard tourist trap drinking hole, the vibe feels very similar to many bars I have visited across the SoCal coast. The bartenders showed their expertise when I requested something with citrus and vodka that was refreshing without being sweet. I was quickly served a grapefruit connoction that perfectly hit the spot. I would highly recommend Barrel Proof (and the entire Garden District) as an alternative to the crowded French Quarter area. Its an excellent drinking spot if you want to sit, enjoy your company, and sip on an expertly made drink. read more

A much needed addition to the NOLA bar scene. Obviously they have whiskey, whisky, and more rye whiskey but what's a bonus is the great atmosphere and attentive bartenders. Were out of one of the bourbons I asked for, but shocker, there were tons of great alternatives. They need food, but the food truck outside does the trick for the time being. For those of us that like to add cubes ourselves, they also need ice tongs...but still it's fabulous compared to what we had! Definitely coming back! read more

I gotta say, of all the bars and restaurants I visited in NoLa (and it was a lot considering I was only there for 5 days) this was the classiest. They somehow managed to keep it down to earth and inexpensive while still having that craft cocktail/upscale feel to the place. My group was a little hesitant when we walked in, we had been to everything from tourist traps to dives to fine dining, but no high end places. We are kind of dive bar crew. But the place was great. The staff was friendly and helpful, the drinks were solid and vast in variety and the place was comfortable. Barrel Proof is the kind of bar you go to just to have one craft cocktail but then you spend hours at trying different bourbons, get caught in an amazing conversation with a stranger about various sock materials and leave with a positive outlook on life and an empty wallet because you drank all your money away. And yet you go back. But not on a Friday or Saturday night because it's a little too pretentious with the standard weekend crowd. But man is this place good on a Monday. read more

I live and own business in this city and I've never been robbed by the bartender. Went to barrel proof yesterday to try some of the Japanese whiskey that's available. I wanted to try the oldest Yamazaki that they had, unfortunately it was unavailable, so my next choice was a step down. I didn't realize it until this morning when I checked my card, the bartender still charged me for the 12 year after she said it wasn't available. I know I should have paid more attention to my receipt but it was very dark and I didn't expect to be robbed by the bartender. I will be sure to let all my friends and all my clients know that if anyone happen to stop by, be careful not to get robbed! read more

I had been meaning to check this place out for a little while now. It's around the corner from a place I frequent and there are always a bunch of people outside on weekends. I wasn't disappointed. I didn't know what to expect, but it turned out to be somewhere I'll definitely be going much more in the future. Excellent selection of bourbon and the staff is highly knowledgeable on each one. They had every bourbon I was looking for. Very laid back environment, modern industrial look to the place. Well spaced area inside, so it never feels crowd. Great atmosphere all in all. 4/5 spacious shift more than the change-up in the drink offerings, the big shift I noticed in the former bridge lounge location was the opening up of the space. folks were lined all the way down the bar last night, but they got rid of the old table arrangements and now there's so much more space. i like. it felt brighter too - i noticed more of the backwall and overall just had a more sleek feel. despite only showing beers and whiskeys on their drink menu, they'll make you other drinks too. it did feel a little overwhelming at first. choices, choices! it's helpful that they separate them out by region, and they're more than happy to answer any questions and provide recommendations, whether by taste or by price. tip - use the door knob then pull. during our short sip outside we probably saw at least 5 people fumble with the door (no clear markings). read more

Reminds me of chicago...20/30-something's dressed professionally, after work, looking to mingle and imbibe. Very typical scene in a lot of big cities but actually not typically seen in New Orleans. I enjoy this bar for a few reasons and the crowd is something that makes it unique. Whiskey is their drink-du-nom and they have a very healthy selection of options. Nothing truly high tier as they have typically been lacking the antique collection, pappy, and other hard to find vintages. Loved the atmosphere, the service, and the drinks! This place was such a good time. I took my partner for his birthday, he has a new found love for whiskey and tried 10 1oz pours at Barrel Proof. The wait staff was so friendly and knowledgable. And don't worry if you're not in to whiskey they make a good cocktail and have a pretty decent beer selection too. This is a refreshing place to visit with your friends and perfect for drinks with your date. This is no longer Bridge Lounge and very much an upgrade from it. Gone are the unisex bathrooms which I find to be cleaner now. Gone are the dog bowls and animals I no longer have to trip over. There is more seating at the bar, and speaking of the bar, what a beautiful upgrade! The drinks are fancy yet not pretentious. The staff are very attentive and extremely friendly. The only cons I have is that the music is too loud and they are usually out of beef jerky. This is a really great spot and I am a fan. read more
