I like coming here for their seection of 101 beers on tap(hence Barrelhouse 101). Theyre expensive for a taster, but that just comes with being in the territory of craft beers. I recently came here because i was craving something new. I noticed they only had 30ish beers on their initial menu so i asked the waitress for the full beer menu. A craft beer lovers dream! Over 100 on tap and with an impressive menu to boot! Travis was our server for the evening and he was so helpful and friendly! We started with the chicharones that came with this secret spicy chipotle sauce. Light and crispy and with that super sauce it was a perfect start. We did tasters (3) also ordered a caliCreamin and a Dragon stout made in bourbon barrels. Super good! I chose the Argentinian steak sandwich medium rare and holy smokes was it amazing! The Mr. Ordered the captains catch with a side of truffle fries ... devoured the entire thing and we shared a side of Mac n Cheese. Extra cheesy yum! I visited this bar/ restaurant about a week ago and the food was amazing and the amount of beers/ciders they had on tap was probably 101 haha that's where they probably got their name from. I would totally recommend the strawberry beer for the women out there that like sweet things and if you aren't a fan of beer try that it was my favorite. Oh and the dessert is great too. Went to this location a week ago, we sat down outside, we were told our server would be with us. Have visited three times now. Twice for drinks only for a social hour with a few friends. Most recent time was for dinner with some friends. Food was pretty good, especially from a bar. I should preface this by saying we only went for drinks and not food so this is a very limited review. The beer selection was vast and the bartender was very kind and helpful. It was a clean and modern spot. No complaints about the ambiance. I especially love that they have a giant tent in the parking lot to eat outdoors. The biggest downside was the cost; $9-$12 a beer is a bit steep. We'll be back to try the food but my hopes aren't high that it will be worth the cost. read more

Anywhere with more than one cider on tap pretty much wins me over- but Barrelhouse also had great service and food and nice ambience inside and outside! We sat on the patio and played oversized Connect Four- and didn't even get through a full game after we ordered because the food was ready so quickly! The Bacon Mac & Cheese was really good- and with an appetizer could have been a split dish. I loved being able to do a tasting of ciders- I got to try three- most (maybe all?) of them local. Let me say this, the beer selection is amazing. So much good craft beer and cider to choose from. The build your own taster menu is really cool, even though our waitress didn't have any insight on it. She told us just tell her the beer number? That being said, the service was average to below average at best. The restaurant wasn't very clean, it was a hot day an no AC avalible for customers? Everyone was fanning themselves to cool down. Playing tourist in Ventura and stopped here for snacks and libations. There literally are over 100 taps at the bar, so flights are recommended. I was very impressed with the various beer styles to choose from. I started with a grapefruit hibiscus kombucha, then a rosewater sour and a porter. Our server Charles was very sweet and funny. On his recommendation, we nibbled on the buffalo barrel tots, chicharrones and the devil spears. The three peppers dipping sauce on the devil spears is no joke! Two flights, two full sized beers and three delicious appetizers were just about $70. This could easily become a regular place if we were local. The restaurant is cavernous. Lots of room for groups. I can see why this place was packed. The only negative was a single stall ladies room. At a bar this large and popular, that can make for a lengthy wait. read more

So what do you do when you have a family group of 20 on a vacation looking for a good place to eat on a Saturday night but would really like to make a reservation so everyone can fully enjoy the trip without having to wait hours waiting for a table???? Call the Barrelhouse 101 of course! I say this because I was in this predicament. My family (which consists of my parents, siblings, their spouses, and our kids) does an annual family vacation to the Ventura area and ever since the chain restaurant we used to go to closed down several years ago we have struggled to find a restaurant that would fit within our budget, party size, dinner options, and that would allow us to make a reservation. We have been to a few different places the last few years and we have either had to wait it out or send a "representative" from our party to wait an hour or more before the time we'd like to eat. With a party that large and having children under 8 in tow you can imagine that the wait it option wasn't ideal. Given the task to find a restaurant has never been easy and after calling a couple dozen establishments over the years I was so very pleased when I called Barrelhouse 101 and was able to speak to the manager. She was able to check the books and offer a time to accommodate our family. I was ecstatic!!! So after that ginormous hurdle let me give you my review now.... Our party of 20 arrived promptly at 5:30pm for our reservation. We were taken to a back room that looked meant to fit larger parties or could be easily used for everyday regular seating. Once we were all seated and situated our server, David P., made his way around to get our drink and appetizer orders. Shortly after our drinks arrived and appetizers made their way out as they were ready. I personally decided on a Unicorn Juice beer and the German Pretzel with both the Mac n cheese sauce and the artichoke cream cheese dips for the appetizer. It was amazingly delicious and huge enough to share with everyone. The pretzel had the perfect chewy salty outside with a soft inside. I liked both dips but the artichoke cream cheese was my favorite. The beer went great with it and hit the spot. For dinner I ordered the Short Rib Melt with the Garlic Truffle Fries (I also added blue cheese to the fries to make them extra stinky and delicious). The sandwich was so good. The sourdough bread stayed crispy despite this sandwich having gravy on it, the meat was flavorful and tender, and the cheddar and smoked Gouda cheeses went perfectly with it. I know the rest of my group enjoyed their dinner too and I heard very little complaints. Only one was the two that got tacos were a little disappointed because they weren't hot but the flavor was still good. I need to give major props to our server David. He made great suggestions for those that needed it, kept the drinks full, made sure the kid's meals came out quickly, brought all the sides and dips we asked for, and accommodate our large group well. He handled it like a pro! I can easily see coming back with our big group or with my own small family. read more

I am very impressed with the customer service! The woman who was our waitress was delightful. Ya'll know I'm huge on customer service. The place is fun and the bar is huge! This place, literally has 101 beers on tap. Did you know they even carry FRüLI Beer? This is a famous beer served at The Oxnard Strawberry Festival. I was soooo excited when I saw this beer here! We ordered the Macaroni and Cheese and let me tell you it was to die for! The spiral noodles were cooked perfect! The cheese is something out of this world! Don't get me started on the presentation-it comes out in a cute dish! I ended up sharing a HUGE burger cut in half with the most delicious fries ever! I was a happy camper here!!! They have a cool arrangement of seating from the bar area, low top seating, high top seating in a booth and a sunset room seating perfect for parties! Visited Ventura with my family during the week and chose this place as it was few that stays open late. Pros- great for kids, dog friendly including a dog menu & great selection of beer. Server was awesome, attentive and overall good time. I wanted to love this place but food was major letdown- we ordered variety tacos, Mac & cheese for kids. Overall, basic, zero flavor, came out cold. Churros for dessert were tasty. Based on vibes and beer selection plus kid & dog friendly, I would give Jr another chance. read more

Tbh I can only speak on the alc because this was a last stop of the night and we just went in for a few rounds of drinks but we loved the selection on tap! I hadn't found a brewery that served kombucha beer and they had a few here! I opted for the watermelon mint and it was amazing! Their stouts are also very good and creamy if you like more of a dark beer. Staff were super friendly, plenty of places to sit inside and out, and quite a few big screens to watch games on. Pet friendly place. The buffalo ranch chicken sandwich was amazing. I only ate half because it was that huge. And it held up for me to eat the next day. It was still delicious. I just wish I were in town to get it again. I had the bacon mac n cheese as my side. It wasn't as exciting as I thought it would be. The other dish I would recommend is the german pretzel which is also huge. The cheese dip was homemade and I would dip everything in it! I would totally eat here again. WOW!!!!!!!!! I love this place!!!!!! Came in yesterday with my bf. The poutine fries are to DIE FOR!!!!!!!! The tatertots taste like bacon!!! I got the tap house burger which was delicious. My bf got the Beacon which was good but cooked well done. I was overwhelmed with the selection of beer. I told our server Thomas that I like sweet drinks, so he recommended the pineapple upside down cake beer cocktail - WOW!!! It was like drinking desert!!! Didn't even taste like beer! This place is amazing! The staff was very friendly and the ambience was lively. They have plenty of well priced menu items and a large amount of beers on tap. My husband usually doesn't drink at restaurants but flights of beer he couldn't pass up, he loves to try different beers. The food was delicious! I am pescatarian and I have been missing boneless wings a lot lately and they had buffalo tater-tots... a must get in my opinion. They also had great tacos, my husband got the meat tacos (skirt steak & carnitas) plus a fish taco and I got fish tacos and a shrimp taco. He said his favorite was the shrimp and I loved the fish tacos. They give a lot of filling in the taco for their price. And to finish it off we got the bread pudding dessert... YUM!
