That having been said... The coffee is so watery it's ridiculous. Reminded me of that swill you make in a hotel room. Couldn't even drink it. Ihop makes better omelets. This was just awful. Hard eggs, vegetables were raw (they should be sauteed and relatively soft not crunchy). The sausage patties are like hockey pucks. Hard and black. The toast comes dry???!! Barry needs to work on his pricing strategy. Food was just okay: not super tasty & not a lot for the cost. Service, however, was some of the best in the area. For a family of 4 (2 adults 2 kids), our lunch cost $40, before tip. Close to 50 after tip. We both got a chicken sandwich and my sons ate off the kids menu. I would have expected more like 35 after tip. We have actually spent less at Carolina Ale House for dinner after ordering alcoholic beverages! The biggest surprise was soft drinks costing $2.95 each - most places charge $1.95. Unfortunately, we won't be back any time soon because the food & ambiance was not worth the price we paid. Solid breakfast - biscuits were the highlight of the meal ; perfect consistency. Eggs were made fresh with a nice buttery flavor. Lots of bacon came with our platter - thin and crispy which just begs to be in a sandwich. Home fries are more on the french fry side than the skillet variety we like in the morning but still good. This is one of my go to brunch spots. The pancakes are delicious!!! They are huge and cakey, they would be my top recommendation there. The bacon is always super crispy which I love. All around good cooking, and love the firefighter decor. The owner is EXTREMELY accommodating and very mindful of any food allergies (dairy, gluten, peanut, etc). I personally don't have any allergies but have witnessed her double checking with the kitchen that things are cooked separately. We arrived shortly before closing on a Saturday night. We tried the Reuben, burgers, and chicken fingers. All of them were quite good, and the sides (slaw and fries) were also solid. My Reuben was one of the better ones I have had; my family said that their dishes were tasty. The service was attentive and a bit sassy, generally in a good way. This place is amazing! Went here for breakfast, got a seat right as you came in, love the decor, all different types of firefighter decor on the walls. From patches to pictures to helmets from all over. Breakfast was great, had the country fried steak n eggs, eggs tasted nice n fresh steak melted in your mouth, hash browns were nice n crispy and the biscuits.....oh sooo good!! The staff here are so nice n freindly, food came out fast and correct! Was amazed watching the three cooks behind the counter making all kinds of dishes, they really were a three man team! Went to Barry's for a late breakfast because of the good reviews. Very disappointed. Service was terribly slow and the food was mediocre. Coffee and fried eggs were as expected, but ham was over cooked and hash browns were tater tots. Took at least five minutes to get waited on, at all, even though the manager asked me to seat myself when I walked in. Coffee cup sat empty for another five minutes, at least. I was dropping off some dry cleaning and smelled breakfast foods wafting from the parking lot. My wife and I decided to give it a try on a whim and it was...okay. As far as diner food goes it was okay as well. The service was good so no complaints about that. The one thing that I noticed, and perked up my wife's nostrils, was that there was a mildewy chlorinated smell that was prevalent when we sat down. The giveaway for what was causing that smell was that they're using those classic checkered vinyl tablecloths and wiping them down with the same couple of wet rags after each service. The rags were then just deposited onto the service area for that section and not put back in a bucket where the cleaner may have been. Not the most sanitary practice and vinyl tablecloths can harbor that smell for a long time. read more

My husband and I enjoyed a quaint Sunday brunch here this morning. It was clean, had very friendly staff, and was definitely delicious. The food: Portions were fair. We both had omelettes accompanied by southern cooked biscuits and grits, fresh coffee, and hash browns. The atmosphere: Typical southern brunch spot with a charm and relaxed pace. BARRY'S CLOSES AT 2:30 PM!!! Had the best Chicken Fried Steak this afternoon. It was hot, fresh and smothered in sausage gravy. The mashed potatoes were nice and fluffy and the sausage gravy made them creamy too. I also ordered the corned beef hash. Very yummy. Normally when I visit I order the Cheeseburger Salad, which is phenomenal, but glad I ventured outside my comfort zone. Barry's believes in giving back to the community. They have the Feed the Firefighters Foundation which, you guessed it, feeds Firefighters as part of their rehabilitation while on scene. How awesome is that. We entered with my daughter's guide dog (identified by harness) and were told we would have to be sat in the back "because of the dog." The hostess wasn't polite or welcoming so we proceeded to explain he was a service animal and my daughter was blind. She said other customers would complain and some were allergic (he's a hypoallergenic golden doodle) and he would HAVE to sit under the table (which service animals are trained to do so naturally he would sit under the table). Celiac Friendly I love this place! My daughter researched for a place for breakfast to take me on my birthday and she found this gem, she is so amazingly thoughtful. It was an awesome surprise that my sister could meet us too! Coming from California, where we experienced #creekfire2020 in Shaver Lake & North Fork areas, I felt at home with all the firefighter pictures and decor. #calfire was definitely represented here. Now for the food... It Was Awesome I had the French toast with raspberries... so tasty, I didn't even need syrup. My daughter and sis had the veggie omelet and they said it was the best one they've ever had. Now for the service.... Phenomenal & Exceptional! Our server was attentive and so friendly. My gf French toast was cold and dry. Thus the 3 star rating. This rating was also due to the price ($25 for both meals). I love the back-story to this place and can see that there is a dedicated group of folks who support it, which is great. As a paramedic many years ago, I can fully support what they do with the feed the firefighters foundation. That said, not really impressed from a breakfast standpoint. We went in on a Sunday Morning and it was busy. We sat in a booth right next to the waitstaff food pickup. We watched waffles get put down hot and then sit for a good ten minutes before a waitress came back to pick them up. I felt sorry for the recipient. I ordered Barry's Burrito. My wife had scrambled eggs with sausage and hash browns. Common egg issue on both...tremendously greasy...which is not something we look for in scrambled eggs. The hash browns had good flavor, but way too much salt. At least from a breakfast standpoint, this is the ultimate "greasy spoon". It was kinda disgusting to see toast and English muffins pop out of the toaster and then get "painted" with yellow liquid sitting in a plastic bucket by the toasters. Be sure to ask for your bread dry and add your own butter! The area was not clean either, and things definitely look very dated -- not in a good way. We'll try somewhere else next time. Barry's is a pretty cool joint, at least for a restaurant tucked into a strip mall between a realtor and a place called USA Baby. You could really get a lot done with one stop in this shopping centre: eat some greasy food, buy a home, shop over at the Food Lion, maybe make a baby. Anyway... The walls are plastered with firefighter tools, signs, and paraphernalia, and they went so far as to make the ceiling tiles stainless diamondplate. They even had Mighty Morphin Power Rangers playing on the television in the other room, which really completed my Saturday morning here. The restaurant is definitely geared towards rescue personnel, so if you are one, you're in the right place to get a discount on your steak and eggs. The food was only mediocre - not great, about average for a diner. I had the meat omelet; it was a little too greasy and over-cheesed, but again, par for the course. The hash browns aren't actually diced or julienned, which was a disappointment, but instead were chunky home fries. The service was good, though, and all of the staff were extremely friendly. read more

I really wish I had as good of an experience as everyone else seemed to have, but that was not the case here. Once we were seated, it took about 15 minutes for a server to come and take our order. It then took about 35 minutes for the food to arrive and no matter how kitschy the decor was, there wasn't nearly enough to distract us from the fact that we were starving. 2 out of 3 plates had completely cold food once it did arrive. We ate breakfast at Barry's today and it was ok. The service was overall very friendly. The food was hit or miss depending on what you got. And the prices were a bit higher than expected ($2.60 for soda; $10 for an omelette plate). My sister got an egg biscuit sandwich, which was really good. My mom got a fruit pancake that was good-fine. I got an omelette, which I thought was really strange because they fold the omelette with nothing inside and put all the toppings on top. At least that's how my Greek inspired omelette was made and it wasn't very good as the eggs were pretty overlooked and dry. So I'd consider going back if I was in the area but I'd probably stick with a biscuit sandwich or something similar and I'll continue to make Brigs, Courtney's or Humble pie my regular breakfast spots. read more

I really enjoy this restaurant. The staff are friendly and attentive (in general) and the food is tasty. I particularly like the 'breakfast all day' option on the menu. It's a good place to take the family for a quick bite and that is usually why I stop by. My kids love the free cookie that comes with each order at the end of the meal. I usually go with the Barry's Burrito for my order. It comes with home fries, salsa, and sour cream. They are completely happy to bring a side of jalepenos (no charge) as well to spice things up a bit. Overall it's a filling option, but doesn't leave you so full that you have to have help getting up out of the booth! One note/caution - if you sit on the RIGHT side of the restaurant (near the grill area) you will likely come out of there smelling like a grill/diner (sort of that 'greasy spoon' smell that is hard to shed) so take care to sit on the LEFT side if you want to avoid this. We went to Barry's last weekend with friends and enjoyed it. Good old fashioned breakfast food. I enjoyed my breakfast burrito. But, my friend really scored with the corn beef hash. The portion was huge and fried to a crispy crust. Excellent. The maple sugar bacon was also a big hit! Service was friendly and efficient. My coffee cup was never empty! Well I went there for dinner instead of breakfast - Maybe that was the mistake. However, even if the food is really good at breakfast the place still does need a thorough cleaning. We went for dinner and had burgers and grilled wrap. Our bill was around $25.00. For $10.00 sandwiches I expected much more. The food was OK. I guess I would give it a 3 out of 5. Much better burgers in town for a lower cost. The Service was actually pretty good. I would give it a 4 out of 5. Finally the actual restaurant is in great need of a complete thorough cleaning. They have the place filled with firefighting memorabilia which is very dusty, and all looks to have a oily / greasy film on everything. The one room also appears to also be a tribute to Jim Long, I felt like I was in someones living room. My husband and I dine here regularly (at least once per week), and we love having a nice little go-to place where the staff is friendly and knows your name! The food is also great. Breakfast is good, but I think lunch is even better! If you go on a weekend between 10 and 11, expect to wait. But, the managers are great about ensuring wait times are minimal (usually 10-15 minutes or less). The best thing on the menu is their burgers! They are hand-patted and are best with cheese, slaw, and chili. The staff and cooks will also accommodate requests that are not on the menu hassle-free. One of my favorite non-menu items is a chicken tender salad. One other really cool thing is that they give a discount to firefighters and the owners do a lot to support the local firefighter community! The only reason I only gave 4 of 5 stars is because they do tend to increase prices about every 6 months. read more
