Food was decent but the poor review is because of the horrible wait time. My husband and I came here on a Friday at 6 pm. We promptly ordered at the counter and were told that it would be 25-35 minutes for a chicken sandwich and a cheesesteak. While waiting, there were TONS of to-go orders being taken. At the 40 minute mark, I approached the front and they appeared as though my order still hadn't been started yet. After another ten minutes, I went again and was told it would be another few minutes. We finally got our food over an hour later. They forgot the bacon on my sandwich. Everything else was okay, but overshadowed by the horrible experience. read more

We came in for a burger before sunset. The burgers are outstanding! A friend got the patty melt on rye was flavorful, and our burgers were so juicy with crispy fries. When we were finished, we decided to get ice cream because so many people were lined up and it was the perfect dessert! We return here every summer and are never disappointed! read more

They have a few tables on the sidewalk and plenty of tables inside where it's air conditioned and bright. Food is excellent, very fresh. This is the spot for lunch! It can be very busy but we waited and had a later lunch. I had the blackened shrimp tacos and definitely recommend them! Really good sized shrimp that are cooked perfectly and served over a little slaw and a side of salsa. They were excellent and quite filling. My friends both had salads - and the mahi mahi salad was also a big hit! I LOVE Barry's! If you are not familiar with Long Beach Island, there are many different options for ice cream...but I would give Barry's my vote every time! They have amazing ice cream but they also have a great food menu. Staff is super friendly and they do a great job serving the customers. It was very lively when we went, but the lines moved quickly and the service was efficient. Most of the employees behind the counter looked like they were in their teens, but they were very professional and unaffected by the crowds. I ordered the blackened Mahi tacos (with corn instead of flour tortillas) with a side of sweet potato fries. The tacos were pretty good, but a little bland. The pico de gallo was definitely necessary! Sweet potato fries were decent as well, but I tried some of my friend's regular fries, and I wish I had ordered those instead. Those fries were so hot and crispy, yet not too salty. Overall, good food but not necessarily the most memorable. What is memorable, however, is the inside of this restaurant. The walls are covered with photos of fishermen with their catch, and plastic fish decorations. You know it's a restaurant down the shore! In 15 years of eating at Barry's I can't remember a single underwhelming order. Every sandwich is amazing and all the apps are great. Such amazing food from a great neighborhood spot. Much better food than most of the bar restaurants in the area. Consistency over the years has been remarkable. Everyone loves Barry's. And great ice cream too. My family has a vacation home in Beach Haven for almost 20 years, and walking to Barry's for ice cream, food to dine in, or to take back to the house, has been a tradition for almost 20 years! There are many ice cream flavors, it's always fresh, tastes great, with loads of toppings. They've also got soft serve, and the Pamwich! (ice cream inside of 2 freshly baked chocolate chip cookies). The food is always good - I recommend the cheese steak...the cheese is melted IN it, not just on it, and the sweet potato fries are the best! Barry and his wife are always there, and they work hard...as do the lovely gals who take the orders. It's been renovated after Sandy, and is very clean. The original intent of coming out here was to get ice cream...but I was hungry too. After staring at the menu for a while, i decided on one of the daily specials, the fish tacos...which were also advertised around the restaurant as being "back by popular demand...daily!" I haven't had fish tacos often, but I have had them often enough to know how they should be made! I had my heart set on this and when I took my first bite, I was rather disappointed. Now, they don't use fish sticks in the tacos...I don't think I coulda finished it if it were sticks. Though, they did use the next step (or two up) from that. The fish is not minced, but it's definitely a frozen, prebreaded fish that is used. It was served with sauce, lettuce, and pico de gallo. The tacos were edible, but they definitely did NOT meet my requirements of what a fish taco should be made of... As for the ice cream, we (gf & I) got two scoops (cookies & cream and peanut butter). Food is fresh and served hot. Prices are compatible to other similar places on LBI. The staff is young be very attentive, friendly and polite. Speed of service can be long during crowded periods but worth the wait. Owner is a local who grew up in BH and is a nice guy who gives back to the community.
