Having never been to Bartlett's, my husband suggested it as they are "famous for good steaks and prime rib" and who doesn't love a good cut of meat? We did make reservations for a Sunday evening so were able to be seated right away, unlike those without reservations who were told that the wait was 45 min to an hour. Our waitperson was new and in training so gets extra grace because we've all been the new kid trying to figure things out. They were friendly albeit a bit lost and confused but with more training, I can see that they might become an asset to the establishment. The person doing the training, the one she was shadowing, offered little support or guidance from our view and that did her a great disservice in my opinion. We ordered the Grilled Artichokes and honestly, these were the highlight of the evening, although we had to flag down another waitperson for the remoulade listed as the accompaniment as the server who delivered our chokes failed to bring it and our server was no where to be seen. In fact, our server never returned to our table the entire time we were enjoying our appetizer and we had to flag her down just to place our entree order. Going with the Roasted Prime Rib seemed like the right choice. After all, it's what they are apparently known for and the menu describing a Rosemary salt crust, garlic mashed potatoes and au jus sounded delicious. It was underwhelming to say the least. There was very little flavor in any of the meal, save the horseradish sauce on the side. I did add copious amounts of salt and pepper to my own dish but there was no saving the au just which tasted incredibly diluted like something you might serve to someone who has a cold and needs just a hint of flavor to drink their fluids. Rosemary itself is such a powerful herb and I got no taste of it at all throughout the meal. and the "Garlic Mashed potatoes" were akin to something that might have been brought to a family gathering and left sitting out a bit too long. They weren't cold exactly, but they lacked flavor and the consistency I'd expect from a fresh side so I expect they had been sitting out and rewarmed a few times for our meal. To be fair, it wasn't horrible. It was edible and I was hungry, but it wasn't worthy of the price point and I've definitely had superior as more affordable restaurants. There was nothing inspiring about their desert options either so we opted to make our own desert at home. Was it the worst restaurant we've been to? Nope. Will we make an effort to return? This has become a monthly lunch spot for myself and various friends. It has a varied menu with high quality food. Service has always been fabulous. Today was a different experience. We came for a birthday lunch with friends and we're seated at a really nice table to accommodate our party. The food again was SO good. The service was a different story. We had a server who was bothered by us. We had to ask for everything that normally would be provided: cream/sugar with coffee, water refills (never orovided) checking in on us during our meal, correct to go containers for food ordered, ketchup for burgers/fries, etc. There was a clear attitude that created an uncomfortable atmosphere. Stephen may need some additional training, in our opinion, to maintain the level of service Bartletts is known for. I'll be back, of course, because of past experiences. 3.5 Stars - Bartlett's is easy to miss. Me and my husband went on a Friday after work at around 6. We didn't have reservations. The wait was about 30 mins so we walked to Terra Toys while we waited. We ordered the Brussels sprouts & carrots which was a seasonal side (I think our waiter said?) I would skip it. The Brussels were slightly hard and only barely steamed. The carrots were amazing tho. It had a yummy sauce on it that really saved the dish but I wouldn't recommend it. I ordered the 8 oz filet mignon. It was soooo soft and tender. I swapped the wilted spinach for a loaded baked potato and it was pretty good but also pretty standard, it's hard to mess that up. My husband ordered the plain Rib Eye and it was also soft and yummy. Both of our dishes came with a roasted tomato with Parmesan on it and it was soooo good, it tasted like a small little pizza bite. As the other reviews have said, it is slightly dark in here but I think they do it to set the ambiance. The exposed kitchen is nice and gives the restaurant a fancier feel. Horrible experience. There was a group close to us that was loud and bothering our table. One of the guest's was particularly intoxicated. When my partner asked nicely for them to stop bothering us she snapped in a very hostile way. Server and other staff saw this and I thought they handled it very well, but they snapped at them as well. Management didn't do anything. I wanted to love it here, but we didn't. The artichoke dip was great and I loved that it came with salsa. Between two of us we got the world famous ribeye and the au jus sandwich. I got some special veggies (corn and peas with a mint dressing). Unfortunately, my food arrived and the sandwich was not even warm. The prime rib was fine, but the temperature of it took away from the experience. I also had four bites of the ribeye and it was pure gristle, so I unfortunately didn't love that. Was sooo happy to know that Bartlett's is still around (formerly Houston's Restaurant)! I ordered my staple spinach and artichoke dip; make sure to ask for sour cream and diced onions on the side. Here is how you layer...tortilla chip, dip, sour cream, salsa, 2-3 onion pieces, and enjoy! For my entree tried the grilled fish sandwich (fish changes weekly) with shoe string fries (substituted the tartar sauce for ranch on the side)...fish was cooked perfectly with a nice char so the sandwich is not soggy. My friend ordered the grilled chicken salad and she absolutely loved the peanut sauce dressing. Ordered takeout for our New Year's Eve dinner. The process was seamless - you can order online through Toast - there's a link from the website. They even show the estimated wait time which for NYE was 45-55 minutes which was understandable. We ordered the steak tartar, the noodle salad, and of course the grilled artichokes. Everything was packed nicely and there's a dedicated carry out counter so you don't have to check in with the host. First time ordering the steak tartare and it was everything. They focused on the taste of the meat and just enough capers and red onion. It also came with a nice sambal that was tangy with just a tad of heat. The noodle salad was good with a sweet and savory dressing. I added seared tuna but it wasn't necessary. As always the grilled artichokes are divine and even as a to go item. Applebee's for rich people The girlfriend and I go out to eat a couple times a week. We wanted to go to a higher end restaurant for her birthday, something we do once or twice a year Beef tartare was good. Got 2 slivers of anchovies i guess that's normal? Biggest disappointment was the steaks. We got the most expensive ones they had on the menu. When served, both were medium well, not medium rare liked we ask. There were little other no juices and blood, both were tough and not tender. We asked to send them back. The 2nd round, gfs was better, mine was more of the same. Yes mine had more pink/red in it, but again tough as nails with okay flavor. Gfs steak was tender and had good texture, still little to no juices or blood Ordered 3 drinks between us. The wait times were poor on those and the food, especially when we asked for new steaks. Our waiter barely came around, and it was someone else refilling our waters, and our drinks They ended up taking off both steaks off the bill, so that's a positive. This was our first time here. The restaurant is darker and more upscale, so it's a nice setting for a date night. For early dinner, it seemed family friendly as well. We saw a few family with kids. Our server was great - friendly and very attentive. He noticed that we were not a fan of one of the dishes and took action. We had the hickory burger, the prime rib French dip and the seasonal veggies (Thai Brussels sprouts). My favorite was the prime rib French dip. It comes with a side of horseradish sauce and au jous dipping broth. The bread had a think layer of crisp and eat bite was delicious. The side of quinoa was also very refreshing and tasty. It had raisins and cashews in it for different flavors and textures. The hickory burger was also tasty esp with the sweet BBQ sauce. And we really loved the fries as well, perfectly cooked and perfect crisp. The Thai Brussels sprouts were a little too fish sauce flavored for me. I usually love Thai food and am a fan of fish sauce. We had reservations for Valentine's Day. The place was packed. Service was great. We were seated promptly, our server made sure to go over the menu with recommendations, and it did not take long for food to arrive to our table. The quality of the food is excellent. I recommend ordering the grilled artichokes. They had an excellent char, and the artichoke hearts are tender. The prime rib was cooked perfectly medium-rare. The sides of baked potato and mashed potato were also delicious. We enjoyed the 100 hour marinated ribeye, but the marinade is a little on the sweeter side. Personally, I think I prefer ribeyes that are more classically seasoned to let the steak shine. The ambiance is romantic and perfect for a date night. read more

Went with family for dinner. We started with spinach artichoke dip. It was one of the best I've ever had. Asked on seeing several others enjoying it on our way out, it clearly is a well known go to for frequent patrons. My cousin said their ribs were the best but recently had taken a downturn the last 2-3 times he had them. But he decided to give them one final try. I was glad he did, because he let me try one. They are fork tinder with pretty good flavor. He had fries and they were smaller fries, not the oversized raw ones you often get in upscale restaurants. His wife had a good looking burger that she said was really good. Her side was beets. She gave me one because she wanted me to try them and they were really good. I had their steak sandwich. The steak was thin but cooked perfectly (med rare). I wound up taking it apart and eating it like a steak with bread on side. The bread was great. The onions and tomatoes were good. The sauce on the bun was good. The steak was flavorful and the chimchuri was good as well. My side was a pecan quinoa. It was rare for me to try it because normally I am not a fan of quinoa. I am glad I ordered it. It was probably the best I've ever had. To wrap up the meal we all shared a key lime pie. It was good (not great). Our waiter was great, attentive but not overly intrusive. Very nice and friendly. The only critique is that the restaurant is dark. Very very dark. My cousin had to use his phone light. I also saw several other tables with lights out. It seems to be the new trend for people to sit in the dark for some reason. The restaurant is decorated nice (from what you can see. Ha). As I walked out I looked around. Most tables had steaks. I had high expectations for Bartlett's (because of their association to Houston's) and they lived up to every one of them. The Spinach artichoke dip at Houston's was one of my all time faves so I could hardly wait to get it. And it was just as good as I remembered. The ambience, service and food were all excellent. It was a party of four to celebrate my birthday. Two friends had salads with protein added and the size was plentiful. Another friend had the veggie burger and fries and that seemed to disappear quickly. I ordered from the specials; Redfish with a butter sauce topped with Cajun spiced shrimp and mashed potatoes on the side. It was sooooooo good! For dessert the waiter bought me a slice of key lime pie with a graham cracker pecan crust topped with fresh whipped cream and it was delicious. My friends split the apple cobbler with ice cream and the spoonful I had was tasty. One thing I don't wanna forget to mention is their fresh house made lemonade. It was not too sweet and just tart enough, Yum! Our server was Evan and he was attentive, knowledgable of the menu, and made great recommendations! Came here for my birthday dinner on Saturday, September 13th around 5pm. I really wanted prime rib for my birthday dinner and the people of Reddit said to come here and I wouldn't be disappointed. They also said to make a reservation because sometimes it does get busy. I mentioned in the reservation notes that we were celebrating my birthday. We walked in and I noticed the mood lighting (which I loved) and everything was so clean and organized. Our server Claire was AMAZING! She was so knowledgeable about everything on the menu and had all the answers to our questions since it was our first time here. We ordered the Spinach & Artichoke Dip, and oh my goodness, it was the best spinach & artichoke dip we have ever had. My boyfriend was speechless and he couldn't stop eating it. My boyfriend ordered the Famous French Dip Sandwich and I of course ordered 12 oz Roasted Prime Rib. When my boyfriend tried his sandwich he literally threw his reading glasses on the table because it was that delicious. You had to be there to see his reaction, he said it was the best damn sandwich he's ever had. My prime rib was everything I had ever wanted, it melted in my mouth and it was not overly salted and it was PERFECT! This whole experience was amazing, from the amazing staff and the delicious food. It gets even better. Claire gave us dessert options and it was so hard to choose because she made everything sound so delicious. We ordered the sundae and i promise I'm not exaggerating, but this was probably the best sundae we both have ever had. And to top it off the chef (I'm pretty sure his name was Eric) came to our table and introduced himself and gave us a little history lesson. That made our experience even better. Updated Review: We visit Bartlett's often, usually after 1:30-2 pm. The service is always top notch, food consistently great and experience just lovely. In the past couple of years, we have found their traditional salad is our favorite go-to. My husband gets fries and I get roasted beets. He has to share his fries but he hates beets. I win. The fries are so yummy, shoestring type, always fresh and tasty. The beets are the bomb (at least for beet lovers like me). Hamburgers are terrific. I have had the French Dip Sandwich, Fish of the Day sandwich and dinner and the ribs are too die for. I can't say enough about this place. A little pricey for some but oh so worth it. I found out about Bartlett's rather circuitously when I was having lunch with my two closest fellow teachers and one of them pulled out a French Dip from Arby's. The conversation then turned to French Dips in general, and they both agreed that Bartlett's made one for the gods! Bartlett's, said I? Plus, my hubby lives for Prime Rib, and a lot of the reviews sing Bartlett's praises about theirs, so it got Sharpied into our weekend plans immediately! On the way there, I did some research and discovered that they used to be Houston's of Austin, and Houston's in Houston was a regular pit stop for us when we lived there, so we were doubly psyched! We'll be gob-smacked if they kept that famous OG Houston's smoked salmon appetizer on the menu! We've tried to recreate it at home a zillion times with mixed results! Survey SAYS...they did! OMG! *cue Snoopy happy dance* Needless to say that we're most def starting with that! The atmosphere here is delightfully woody, dark, and atmospheric, and the bar mixology did NOT disappoint! My husband's diiiirty Grey Goose Martini was on point! Pricey, though! $40 for that, including a dry red for me, but you don't come here to penny pinch! Here's what we got, and here are our thoughts: Hickory Smoked Salmon - Yup! Just like the OG, and bleepin' OUTSTANDING! Drop the damn mic already, y'all!
