    211. Basa Special Roll

Fresh delicious affordable seafood. Fried shrimps, oysters, & fish over fries. The Basa special roll has imitation crab inside with scallops and is topped with salmon, for only $10.50! They're known for their fresh tuna and salmon poke. Service was quick and ambiance is a local take-out only spot.

Visiting here in SF and this place is well known popular. I came here Tuesday right during opening and there was no line at all. This place is a take out only. I ordered the spicy salmon poke and fish ceviche, both were absolutely delicious. Well priced and some of the freshest and tastiest seafood. I would definitely be coming back to try all the other food on the menu!

Basa Seafood Express should be the cheapest Hawaiian-style poke in SF. Their poke bowls are very affordable, at $8.5 for salmon and $11 for tuna, either spicy or shoyu flavors. I ordered spicy salmon and upgraded to combo for $11.99, which came with: rice, seaweed salad, and a bottle of water. I also tried the fish ceviche (they offer both fish and shrimp options for $7), it's a great deal for the price honestly. But keep in mind that it's a takeout only restaurant, so there is no dine in seatings. Overall, the portions are generous and the fish tasted fresh. The flavor was decent, not the best poke I've had, but definitely not bad either. If you're looking for amazing poke, this may not be your spot. But if you want a filling, healthy and budget-friendly meal (which isn't easy in SF if you're not going for fast food), it's hard to beat the value here.

Came by on a Friday night for dinner after seeing this place show up on my feed and I have to say that it did not disappoint. I wish we had the chance to come earlier in the day during lunch because they probably would have still had the ceviche, but they ran out by the time we arrived. We ordered the fried calamari special, shoyu salmon poke, shoyu tuna poke. We waited around 15 minutes for our order, which I assume was mainly due to the fried calamari. Fried Calamari - 5/5 - the texture was great and the tartar sauce was great Shoyu salmon poke - 5/5 Shoyu tuna poke - 5/5 Small steamed rice - lol nothing else to say about this but it was necessary for the poke-for me at least. ~~Service: Great. The cashier lady was super patient with us and didn't greet us until we went up to the payment counter. I prefer this because it feels like there's less pressure to decide what you want to get. ~~Best Part: Stress free ordering. ~~Worst Part: There's no place to eat within the restaurant so we took our food and walked over to a nearby park but there wasn't really any seating not in the direct sunlight so we ate on a patch of grass, but it was still enjoyable. I probably should have done the research before hand to know to bring a picnic blanket or something ~~Return: Yes.

've never been to a seafood market without that strong fishy smell, which honestly says a lot about how fresh the seafood is here. We ordered a few rolls, poke, a soft shell crab burger, and the seafood combo, and everything was delicious. I normally don't eat much raw fish, but the poke was packed with flavor. The rolls were huge, and the value for the price was really good too. The only letdown was the Saigon shrimp over rice. It was pretty underwhelming and nothing too special compared to everything else we ordered. It's mainly a takeout spot, so there's no seating available. Service was a bit slow, but they also seemed really busy with orders.

Always consistent, delicious an fresh. I've been coming to this spot for a couple years now and I have been sure to pass it on to all my friends because of how reasonably priced it is. The shoyu salmon poke with some rice is a perfect lunch. The spicy salmon is a great contender. The service is quick and you can order ahead for pickup. No in-dining options but there is a park nearby to enjoy!

A good deal for the price. Service is quick and easy. I got the Spicy Salmon ($8) & Shoyu Tuna Hawaiian Poke ($11) The fish always comes out so fresh. The serving could be a bit more but still not complaining for the quality I'm getting. Rice is extra $, a medium size is $3.. They also have a great selection of other fish and speciality rolls.

Needed a quick bite on a Saturday afternoon and it was not busy at all. Tried the spicy salmon poke with a side of rice. This was yummy and surprisingly fresh. It does have a spicy kick to it and was so good. Perfect to share for 2 for a quick bite. We enjoyed it at a park nearby and it was so refreshing and flavorful. I really enjoyed it!

Food The salmon and tuna were incredibly fresh, and the sauce they were mixed with was perfectly balanced and tasted amazing. I usually prefer tuna over salmon, but the sauce was so good that I couldn't stop eating both. The poke comes in a container without rice by default, but they offer an option to add rice, which also includes seaweed salad. Overall, the food was super fresh and delicious! I'd definitely want to visit again and try more of what they offer. Service The service was quick and very friendly. Ambiance This is a fish-market-style spot with no seating available, making it strictly a takeout place.

I've been going to Basa Seafood for years while living in the Mission District, and it's always been one of my go to spots. My favorites are their salmon sashimi, which they slice fresh for you at the counter, and their spicy salmon poke, which never disappoints. I usually pick up in person, but lately I've been ordering delivery. This time I ordered the Sunset BLVD Roll, which had tuna, hamachi, and salmon inside, topped with avocado, roe, and a mix of sauces. I also got two California rolls (6PC) at $7 each, plus two spicy salmon poke rolls. I made rice at home, though in hindsight it probably would have been easier to just order their $2 rice and save myself the extra effort. I placed the order during lunch hour, so delivery did take quite a while, a little over an hour. That said, the quality was still great and everything tasted fresh and satisfying. Basa Seafood remains a really solid spot, and I'd definitely recommend stopping by if you're in the area.

LOVE & OBSESSED WITH THIS PLACE!! I get basa seafood all the time because it's so affordable and such great quality!! Everytime i come, I always get a poke (usually the spicy salmon poke or shoyu salmon) and a roll (spicy tuna or salmon roll). I always recommend this place to friends and it's perfect to eat by mission dolores park on a picnic when the weather is good!

Quality is still top notch at this SF gem. I've been coming here since 2015 and it never disappoints! If you're new to Basa, parking can be a little tricky but I usually have good luck finding a spot on 23rd Street. The place is tiny with just two benches for waiting. No dine-in tables or bathrooms and plenty of locals stopping by for takeout. They take credit cards with a $10 minimum. There were about five people ahead of me but my order was ready in about 10 minutes. They give you a beeper so you can wait outside. Just don't wander too far! Here's what I ordered: Salmon Spicy Poke ($8) - 8/10 - Fresh and flavorful with that familiar marinade I love. It was a little less spicy than I remembered but nothing a dash of sriracha at home couldn't fix! Tuna Shoyu Poke ($11) - 7/10 - Solid quality and tasty. No complaints here. Personally, not a total fan of Tuna but I wanted to give this one a try. Negi Hama (Hamachi Roll) ($5.50) - 7/10 - [HEADS UP!!] this roll DOES NOT come with green onion. "Negi" actually means green onion, so I was a bit surprised when it was just hamachi. After checking old reviews and photos, it seems this is their usual way of making it. SF Bag Fee ($0.25) San Francisco. Enough said. Total: $26.86

Ask the Community - Basa Seafood Express

Do they sell their poke (shoyu) by the pound?

    Unfortunately they do not.

Is it possible to get the spicy creamy salmon poke with tuna instead of salmon? Do they customize or is it all just made ahead and you get what's been prepared?

    Gluten free options?

Big hunks of raw fish totally gf

Are they still serving shucked oysters during covid -19?

No. Not until dinning is allowed.

When are they open to deliver on Ubereats/doordash? It says they're closed on the apps when they're actually open

I've ordered twice from UberEats, only to have the order cancelled at the end of the window it was supposed to be delivered. Not sure if it's a Basa or an UberEats issue.

Welcome to Hog Island Oyster Co., which hits all the wickets at SF's Ferry Building, and where the eats are so good, even a former local will go to it again and again. What did we get? 1. Oyster Bar Mix. You can mix different raw oysters, and we got the locally sourced Sweetwater with its mild buttery flavor and the saltier Narragansett Bay from the East Coast. Best of both worlds for a happening contrast of flavor. The house made mignonette was on point, being just the right amount of mild sourness. Absolutely recommend but also with some cocktail sauce. 2. New England Style Clam Chowder. My favorite kind of clam chowder, we had several different riffs on this during our most recent road trip through NorCal. And the is one was by far the best. It's a happening dish with a lighter broth but so tasty nonetheless, being not too salty and still creamy enough. The potatoes weren't mushy but still had some good mouthful, not starchy. The clams cooked perfectly and fresh. Overall seasoning was good and well balanced. Definite recommend. 3. Shrimp Po' Boy. One of the best I have had. Shrimp was decent size and batter was crunchy but plump and moist with good and not overpowering seasoning. Bread also had excellent crunchy crust and soft interior. Not a huge amount of slaw for extra flavor, but it's okay before the shrimp got to shine. Comes with snappy fries dusted in Cajun seasoning and organic Heinz ketchup (nice tomato flavor comes though and not overly syrupy sweet for a refreshing dip). Recommended. A great eatery worth visiting when you're in town. Also worth a detour from the usual touristy Fisherman's Wharf. Maybe catch a bite on the way to Sausalito on the next visit. But as always, Yelpers, give this one a try if you haven't already. Even if you're a local.

Tucked into a row of tiny restaurants on a bustling street in Little Italy, I felt I was stepping into a restaurant in NYC. There's a long counter in the narrow space and a row of two-tops that servers can barely squeeze through until you get toward the back where there are a few four-top tables. The menu is only a single page, but I can't imagine you'd go wrong with any selection. In addition to the cioppino, we ordered the pasta diavalo with half of a crab and it was also delicious. Note: you do need to crack the crab yourself which is a little messy, but the portions were large and the crab was already notched so it wasn't difficult. We all ordered wine-- I tried the chianti for $12/glass and, omg, what a pour! Nothing to complain about there either. This is not a place where you're going to have an intimate conversation, but if you're looking for an energetic vibe, excellent seafood, pasta, and cioppino, and good service, you will not be disappointed. I had steamed mussels with fries. There were not enough mussels because they were huge and the sauce was more a broth and not at all flavorful enough. I usually love sopping up every last drop of the juice. But the really disappointing aspect of our dinner was the service. There were 3 people behind the service station. All of them need a training course on how to pay attention to paying customers. Instead they were all engrossed in private conversation with each other or with one particular customer. And one of the staff was simply intimidating, and very very loud. I suspected his behavior may have been chemically induced. Our waitress was very sweet, cheerful and helpful when we could catch her attention. But as I said a 15 minute training exercise each evening before starting work would work wonders. Like look around each customer every time you are not doing anything. And the more senior staff member was just uninterested and perhaps a little grumpy. So the food was blah, more flavor in the broth would help, and ok but at today's prices a "dinner out" has to be about more than just the food.
