A small no frills takeaway place. Ordered the salmon poke special, which includes the shoyu salmon poke plus small rice plus small seaweed plus water bottle. They don't pre-mix the salmon and sauce with you, which helps make it more fresh when you do eat it. I got my order pretty quickly. Giving this place 5 stars because it is great value for what you get! read more

Great price for the portion! The food was ready quickly and everyone was really friendly. We asked for some recommendations and they gave multiple options. We ordered the Spicy Salmon Poke with a side of rice, Fish and Chips, and Basa Special Roll. Everything was delicious. The Fish and Chips were seasoned well. Normally, I expect Fish and Chips to be oily and heavy. To my surprise, the Fish and Chips were not overly oily and heavy. Great tartar sauce as well. The poke was also really delicious. I was surprised about how fresh it was for the cheap price. The salmon in the sushi was also very fresh. I'll definitely be back and can't wait to try more items on the menu. read more

The secrets already out. This little fish market has all the right pieces to make my heart complete. The food is always fresh and the price is cheap. I can't find any better prices for fresh seafood, sashimi, oysters and much more. I absolutely love the soft shell crab burger. The owner is is super super super meticulous about everything. Next time you visit, look carefully how clean everything is and how perfectly aligned all the signs and food are placed. This is my go to seafood market/take out. Pro tip: No more in door seating, so be ready to take your food to go. read more

Ah, the tell-tale fish market awning. About a ten minute walk from the 24th and Mission BART, I stopped in to pick up a tray of salmon poke for lunch. They offer it in both spicy and shoyu flavoring, and a single serving tray costs $8.69 (note the $10 minimum for credit/debit). They do provide chopsticks free of charge with a fish purchase. The menu is extensive and I wish I had taken the time to review it more closely, but the salmon was delicious. I'll be back to try the tuna in a week or so! read more

Great prices for take-out sushi! Located in the Mission, this is a very affordable sushi spot with a variety of options including sashimi, poke, rolls, and burgers. My friend and I ordered online and it was ready for pickup in 20 minutes. We got Spicy Salmon Poke (5/5 - small pieces for sure but for $7.50 it was very worth and taste was great), Double Hamachi Roll & Hawaiian Roll (3/5 - fish was very mid like it just didn't taste like anything but portions were nice), and Basa Special Roll (4/5 salmon was yummy and fresh). The quality is definitely what you pay for and I'd come back for the poke. read more

Highly recommend- I understand what the hype is about. Seafood is fresh, space is clean, prices are quite reasonable and service is friendly. What more can one ask for? Parking can sometimes be a little hard to find and I wish they had dine in, as the spot is take out only. But beyond those two minor gripes I his spot is worth the detour. We ordered the spicy salmon and the fish burger with fries both were great. Excited to come back and try something else. read more

Bit mixed about this spot! It definitely is your no frills place to pick up some cheap sashimi and poke but some of the quality is better than others. The spicy salmon lived up to the hype, with lots of meaty chunks and really good sauce. The salmon by itself was good but the tuna one tasted kind of suspect and not the freshest. read more

my go to spot everytime i visit SF we always stop by! fish is fresh, my favorite is the spicy salmon poke, i can't handle spice so it's lowkey spicy but it's so good so i deal with it. service is quick, you order and it's ready fast unless you are ordering rolls or something special. do note that it's on a crowded street so sometimes it's hard to find parking. read more

Finally visiting Basa Seafood Express after years of having it bookmarked felt like some sort of achievement. Maybe I'd work my way though all those yelp bookmarks after all. Or maybe not. Basa Seafood Express presented a strong case for not needing to go anywhere else to pick up a delicious and satisfying lunch. On a sunny Saturday afternoon this place was a hive of activity. I waited in line to place my order, paid, and was given a number that lit up when my order was ready. The person in line ahead of me got the last of their spicy salmon poke that day so I opted for the other poke (shoyu salmon), a Hamachi Maki, and a small order of steamed rice. The whole thing came in at less than $15 and these days, that constitutes quite a good value. I've heard there's places to eat inside Basa but I noticed none on this visit. I took my order to go as did everyone else and ate it with great satisfaction. The shoyu salmon poke proved to be nothing more than fresh salmon accompanied by a small container of spicy sauce with which it went well. The maki was fresh and well-prepared and benefited by the generous hamachi and ginger served alongside it. As someone who sometimes succumbs to sushi from the deli case at Mollie Stone's I can confidently say that what Basa puts out is better priced and seemingly fresher. I might not ever get to the rest of my yelp bookmarks but I will most assuredly make a return visit to Basa Seafood Express. read more

Every time I come here, I order at least 3 spicy salmon poke boxes.. that's how good it is. Lost count how many times I've been here. My other go to is their garlic fries. I used to go here all the time and haven't even been disappointed. Great value to quality ratio. Their ceviche is great and I've enjoyed all the fresh fish and fried fish dishes. The sushi selection is simple , fresh, and made to order. Saw this pop up on Uber eats so many times and it has such good reviews. So I had to order it! I ended up getting the spicy salmon, sunset BLVD roll, and basa special roll. The salmon I got was a lot smaller than the photos so I'm not sure if there's sizes? Overall I was pretty disappointed. I like that they cut the poke into small cubes but the taste was not it for me. It's not Hawaiian poke at all. This is definitely California hawaii inspired poke lol I'm a huge texture person so getting these 2 rolls i wish it had cucumber or something crunchy inside but I didn't but that was on me for not paying attention to what was inside! The scallop in the basa special roll wasn't my favorite and overall I felt like the rolls didn't have much taste! I took out the fish from the sunset roll just to try it and it was not it. Finally got to try this place out and can't believe how much I've been missing out! I live across the bridge so not something I can just order often. Both the salmon and tuna poke were fresh and packed with flavor. The marinade isn't overwhelming and you still get that distinct seafood taste. The poke portions look bigger to me in the photos so if you're sharing you can order maybe a little bit more protein but even two boxes are enough but if you have an appetite you can order more. Service is fast and quick. Unfortunately, no indoor or outdoor seating available so you can either decide to eat this at home or even better a park near by on a good day! read more

We were looking for sushi on a Monday afternoon, and a lot of places were closed. But luckily we stumbled upon this spot tucked away in the Mission district. It's a very humble storefront, and there's no seating, just a few benches while you wait. The sushi is so fresh here, and they have a huge variety of classic and creative rolls. Came up to the city to give this place a try. I've seen lots of videos that recommend it for its good price and good quality fish. I got the shoyu salmon which was pretty good. The fish was nice and soft, and it was a relatively good price. I do have other places I prefer but this is a good pick up for when you're in this city and need to grab and go. The rolls were pretty good too. The california rolls were simple but good and cheap. There was one man working the counter, and he helped us out quickly. We were in there for 5 minutes or less as we ordered mainly premade items. Inside, you can see the fish, rolls, and poke behind the counter. You can also buy whole slabs of sashimi. It's small and there's no seating, but it's more of a grab and go anyways. read more

Absolutely delicious and accommodating of our 25 unit order along with a party tray a few days before we hosted an event. My friends loved the fresh poke!!! And many of them consider themselves sushi snobs too. A poke with a small rice is $9. Pretty good deal! It was a light, yummy lunch! The teriyaki beef and chicken platter was beautifully presented in the party tray and went empty in a matter of minutes for our group lol. I've only gotten Basa via UberEats/Grubhub, but it has always been a hit! This time around, I got the spicy salmon poke & shoyu salmon poke. I paid $7.50 for each container of poke. It is such great value for the amount of fish you get. I personally like the spicy salmon better as it comes with red and black roe, black sesame, green onions, all covered in this rich creamy sauce. Delicious. Shoyu salmon is also good -- tastes like soy sauce with a little spicy kick. My tip is to just buy the poke and make your own rice at home, so you don't have to buy a side of rice! Will have to try Basa out in person some time. read more

I highly reccomend going to Basa Seafood Express. Prices are S T E L L A R. With this crazy inflation, its so nice to see an affordable and budget place with fresh poke and salmon with rice. Its very bare bones and legitimate. Rice, Fish of choice, chopped (salmon/tuna), and sauce. Do pick the combo for some seaweed salad and a drink of choice. I can't recommend this place enough if you're looking for affordable, quality sushi. They sell a variety of rolls and poke for very affordable prices. I got two rolls for $12, 1 spicy poke for $7.5 and steamed rice for $2. The fish was super fresh and they had great filling to rice ratio which I always look for. You can also buy sashimi grade cuts if you'd like to make your own at home. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that there isn't any seating so you'll have to take your order to go. It seems more of an in and out kind of place - not a sit down restaurant. The service is quite fast and they seem to make a lot of the rolls fresh! read more

I believe this place could rival any of the clam chowder spots at the Wharf. I had this place booked marked for ages and had decided to try it out. They were really buying when I came by. They have a nice menu and a very simple way to navigate thru. I noticed a lot of poke pictured, and d decided to order that and the lion king roll. They also have burgers. Fish and chips. Ceviche, sushi rolls and special rolls, and sashimi. When you enter, it looks like those asian markets in Chinatown the the windows where you can see all the pre made items like the ceviche, poke, and tempura chips. They have the seating in the back blocked off. It nice to know they make all the sushi to order. But keep in mind the California rolls are pre made. I did notice a lot of people order the burgers, fish, and chips. I am assuming everything is really fresh. The spicy salmon poke was amazing and flavorful. The lion king roll was also delicious. Full of crab mea and the salmon on top was really fresh and smooth. Not fishy taste and had a good portion of rice, carb meat and salmon on top. They give a good amount of ginger and Wasabi. They definitely topped the roll with a good amount of roe. Which is amazing. I will definitely have to come back yo try the fish and chips and burgers. read more

The poke from Basa has been all over my feed for cheap SF eats, and it's definitely worth a try! Each order of salmon poke was around $7.50, which is pretty cheap. The salmon quality is amazing and melts in your mouth! I'm sure the sashimi/sushi with salmon would taste just as good as the poke. However, the plate of poke isn't deep so I wouldn't say you're getting all that much, and it's not filling on its own unless you buy another portion or buy some rice (I made some rice at home to save money). SHOYU SALMON POKE: 4.5/5 The shoyu salmon appeared more bland than the spicy salmon, but I enjoyed it a lot more. The shoyu sauce almost had some spice or chili oil infused, and it was so delicious! I couldn't get enough of it. SPICY SALMON POKE: 4.25/5 I really liked the spicy salmon poke! I'm not the hugest fan of masago, so I'm glad they didn't put too much in the plate. This was a little creamier for my liking and not all that spicy, but it was definitely savory and tasty. I balanced this out by eating some of the shoyu salmon poke. read more

Heard this on Tiktok and just had to try and see what the rave was about! Street parking was tough, we had to park and walked 2 blocks down. This is a grab-and-go kind of place but can't complain especially for such a fair price point. We opted for the 2 poke combos, Spicy Salmon and Shoyu Tuna Poke combo, which came with rice, water, and a side of seaweed for each. We decided to take our food to Golden Gate Park to enjoy. The sashimi at this place is incredibly fresh! Every bite of fish was perfectly chilled, and had great texture! The Spicy Salmon wasn't really that spicy but I did enjoy how fatty it taste. Our favorite was the Shoyu Tuna though! It was salty, umami that pairs perfectly with white rice. (I just wish their rice were a little more fluffy & warm) Overall, this place is definitely worth checking out for the great value and delicious food. read more

Hands down my favorite poke place in SF. Their spicy salmon poke is soo good. They used to have the combo with seaweed salad and you could get a coke instead of water. They changed it so you only get a dried seaweed packet and a water. I hope that changes soon because they stated there's a seaweed salad shortage. Still the price feels unbeatable in the bay. If you order only the salmon poke, it's only $7.50 and their tuna is $11. Their prices for regular rolls are also really cheap compared to other places. This place is a grab and go like seafood restaurant. They don't have tables and chairs for you to eat at. But this is the best type of food to get and go to the beach or Dolores park. They also have freshly cut sushi grade salmon here. I highly recommend this poke spot. They taste so fresh compared to other poke spots that have everything mixed in a bowl. It's comparable to Hawaii poke for me. I always pick up food here at least once a month. read more

Their cornmeal breading can be a little dry, and their french fries a little lackluster, but where else are you going to get a generous order of fried fish, shrimp, and oyster served with french fries for $17.99? It takes me two days to finish my seafood combo. I usually order their Seafood Combo and Chips for $17.99 or their Oyster and Chips for $13.99. I don't recommend their California Roll (imitation crab meat, avocado, and cucumber) for $7. It was very mushy. I've ordered from them through Grubhub five times now. I would order from them again the next time I want seafood. read more

I absolutely love Hawaiian Style poke and this place hit the spot! I personally liked the shoyu poke better but my friend liked the spicy salon poke! Both were both delicious and fresh with no strong fish smell. The seaweed salad went well with the poke too and overall I really enjoyed it. We ordered ahead but I think ordering in person would be quick too. They only do takeout so there is no seating. read more

Welcome to Hog Island Oyster Co., which hits all the wickets at SF's Ferry Building, and where the eats are so good, even a former local will go to it again and again. What did we get? 1. Oyster Bar Mix. You can mix different raw oysters, and we got the locally sourced Sweetwater with its mild buttery flavor and the saltier Narragansett Bay from the East Coast. Best of both worlds for a happening contrast of flavor. The house made mignonette was on point, being just the right amount of mild sourness. Absolutely recommend but also with some cocktail sauce. 2. New England Style Clam Chowder. My favorite kind of clam chowder, we had several different riffs on this during our most recent road trip through NorCal. And the is one was by far the best. It's a happening dish with a lighter broth but so tasty nonetheless, being not too salty and still creamy enough. The potatoes weren't mushy but still had some good mouthful, not starchy. The clams cooked perfectly and fresh. Overall seasoning was good and well balanced. Definite recommend. 3. Shrimp Po' Boy. One of the best I have had. Shrimp was decent size and batter was crunchy but plump and moist with good and not overpowering seasoning. Bread also had excellent crunchy crust and soft interior. Not a huge amount of slaw for extra flavor, but it's okay before the shrimp got to shine. Comes with snappy fries dusted in Cajun seasoning and organic Heinz ketchup (nice tomato flavor comes though and not overly syrupy sweet for a refreshing dip). Recommended. A great eatery worth visiting when you're in town. Also worth a detour from the usual touristy Fisherman's Wharf. Maybe catch a bite on the way to Sausalito on the next visit. But as always, Yelpers, give this one a try if you haven't already. Even if you're a local.

Tucked into a row of tiny restaurants on a bustling street in Little Italy, I felt I was stepping into a restaurant in NYC. There's a long counter in the narrow space and a row of two-tops that servers can barely squeeze through until you get toward the back where there are a few four-top tables. The menu is only a single page, but I can't imagine you'd go wrong with any selection. In addition to the cioppino, we ordered the pasta diavalo with half of a crab and it was also delicious. Note: you do need to crack the crab yourself which is a little messy, but the portions were large and the crab was already notched so it wasn't difficult. We all ordered wine-- I tried the chianti for $12/glass and, omg, what a pour! Nothing to complain about there either. This is not a place where you're going to have an intimate conversation, but if you're looking for an energetic vibe, excellent seafood, pasta, and cioppino, and good service, you will not be disappointed. Our waitress was very sweet, cheerful and helpful when we could catch her attention. But as I said a 15 minute training exercise each evening before starting work would work wonders. Like look around each customer every time you are not doing anything. And the more senior staff member was just uninterested and perhaps a little grumpy. So the food was blah, more flavor in the broth would help, and ok but at today's prices a "dinner out" has to be about more than just the food.

Service was stellar though. There was a group of obnoxious and intoxicated people in the main dining area that scared away many potential diners. If the servers didn't reseat us, we would have left too. Don't think I'll be coming back here ever again.

To note, Juniper is typically busy, but I have never waited in line for more than 10 minutes, even on weekends. They also have a lot of tables for seating, but because of the flow of people, it might be difficult to find a spot. Stop by here if you're around the area! They are also a sister shop of Saint Frank, so you can get some coffee while you're here as well.

After a long hike, I was starving and craving something fresh and satisfying. I decided to order ahead from Basa Seafood on GrubHub for pickup, and I'm so glad I did! When I arrived, there were just 2-3 people ahead of me in line, but it moved quickly--everything was already packaged and ready to go. Super efficient! I ordered the spicy salmon poke with a small side of rice (around $10) and the dynamite roll ($13). Let me tell you, every single bite was absolute perfection. I don't know if it was my post-hike hunger talking or if the seafood was just that good, but it hit all the right notes. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the sauce was flavorful without overpowering the natural taste of the fish. It might not quite transport you to Hawaii, but it's pretty darn close--especially for the price point! The dynamite roll was a standout too. It was packed with just the right amount of filling, and the rice-to-filling ratio was spot on. Everything was so well-prepared and thoughtfully packaged that it felt like I was dining in, even though I was taking it to go. If I lived closer, I'd be here way more often. Basa Seafood is an absolute gem--fresh, delicious, and affordable. I'll definitely be returning whenever I'm in the area. We definitely couldn't afford to eat as much fresh fish and seafood as we do if it weren't for Basa Seafood Express. My wife and I are both seafood lovers and luckily for us, our kids are too. We're a pretty health conscious lot so fish plays a big part in our weekly menu planning. We've found, after all of our years living in San Francisco, that Basa Seafood Express offers the best variety and quality of seafood for the best prices. We also love that Basa has started to cook and serve some really tasty food options like fish tacos, fish and chips, deep fried mixed seafood and, of course, they're incredible clam chowder. It's a real treat for us to take our family here for lunch or sometimes an early supper and to pick up the fish we need for dinner for the next couple of days. If you're looking for something new to try or are wondering how to best prepare a particular type of fish or seafood, be sure to ask the shop owner. This friendly fellow obviously knows fish and we've enjoyed many different varieties and ways of preparing the fish, all thanks to this man. Basa Seafood Express might be a little tricky to find at first, tucked away from the flashier spots around it, but once you do, you'll realize it's a hidden gem. It's a small spot, and while finding street parking can be a bit of a challenge depending on the time of day, it's usually manageable. This place has become my go-to in SF, and I keep coming back for the same thing every time--the spicy salmon poke with a side of rice. As a full-time college student who doesn't work, affordability is a huge plus, and this place delivers. The portion sizes are generous for the price, and the quality is solid. The salmon is fresh, with no fishy smell or weird chewiness--just smooth, melt-in-your-mouth goodness. The flavor profile is spot on, perfectly seasoned with just the right amount of kick. Honestly, outside of Hawaii, this is the best poke I've had. If you're in SF and looking for a budget-friendly, high-quality seafood spot, I highly recommend. read more

I recently visited a cheap seafood stand that had an impressive selection of poke and other seafood options at a very reasonable price. The decor of the stand was very plain and not particularly noteworthy, but I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the food. I opted for a poke bowl and was blown away by the flavors and freshness of the seafood. The bowl was generously filled with a variety of diced fish and vegetables, and the sauce was perfectly balanced and not too overpowering. In addition to the poke, the seafood stand also had a variety of other seafood options to choose from, including shrimp, crab, and oysters. These were all freshly prepared and had a great taste and texture. Overall, I had a fantastic experience at this cheap seafood stand and would highly recommend it to anyone looking for good value and delicious seafood.
