I visited this poke place by accident; it was a second choice after the original restaurant ended up having too long of a wait time. It ended up being a very happy food accident by me and my friend. Basa Seafood Express is not a sit-down place; in the busy neighborhood, there were visibly a few workers behind the counters that displayed some food and ingredients that they were offering for the day. The staff was very friendly and patient when we were ordering. We only sat on a couple of the several available chairs while waiting for our food since there is no true indoor seating, and we ended up taking our food to a nearby park. We ordered fish and chips, a poke special combo with spicy salmon, and a poke special combo without spicy salmon. This place has one of the freshest poke that I've had in SF, and these combos were sold at a reasonable price. The fish and chips also had a unique texture, with breading that I've never had at any other restaurant. This is a great place to come back to visit to get fresh poke! read more

Hidden gem that's an absolute must for poke lovers! Everything is great quality and sold at an affordable price. Plenty of choices to choose from: nigiri, rolls, sashimi, sides, etc. There isn't really any indoor seating so definitely more of a takeout spot. My friend and I got our order and took the food to a park nearby. We ordered the following: - spicy salmon poke: this was my favorite. salmon was delicious and incredibly fresh - shoyu salmon poke: shoyu was good and not overwhelming, great option if you want to taste more of the salmon itself - spicy tuna roll: tuna was fresh, cucumber added crunch and the sauce added a nice spice kick - hawaiian roll: much larger bites than I expected, with a thick slice of tuna and avocado. the fish roe added a texture contrast that I really liked - seaweed salad: very refreshing and a huge portion size - large rice: still warm when we opened it! fluffy and soft, I recommend ordering to balance out the fish Staff was very friendly and quick with orders. Definitely order BEFORE. When I got there, it looked like it was full. I dropped off my hubs to go get it bc there was zero parking. Paid $16 ish for two of these, and these were beyond AMAZING. I can see why it's packed. I definitely would visit again! Bc of the low price, I expected low quality but NOPE. 100% recommend! read more

my boyfriend and I are both poke lovers so we decided to try out this place because I saw it on a tik tok and we were both pleased with the food! the quality of fish was good and well marinated- it's traditional poke so the fish is pre marinated and it's not a build your own. besides the food, it was relatively busy with about 4-5 other people inside the store and it seemed that there was only one person at the register and 2 people cooking in the back. ig they were maybe a lil understaffed so they forgot to hand us our seaweed salad with our combo order so we had to come back later but besides that, everything was great! parking was a little hard to find read more

Too much hype..very little on delivery. Their social media feed could sell sand in the desert. This is not Hawaiian style poke. It's just over chopped very small bits off fish with mix your own sauce on the side. The only premix is their spicy salmon. Rice is ala carte. Salmon was fresh but not so much with the tuna. Portions are very small, you get what you paid for. Throwing the social media lemmings in the volcano. read more

This straight forward seafood shop is perfect for anyone grabbing poke on-the-go or for a picnic day! You can probably be in and out in about 10 minutes on most days. The tuna is so fresh and for about $11.50 you get a whole tray of poke, a side of rice and a water bottle! read more

Hands down the BEST poke place. I discovered basa back in 2020 and always make an effort to come here every time I am in the area. I mainly only get the poke. The spicy salmon poke is top tier. They also offer tuna and a shoyu flavor for the poke but I'm not as big of a fan of those. They have various salmon slabs that you can choose from for sashimi. For an extra 10% they can help slice it up for you too. Their sashimi has to be the freshest and most affordable in the area. Everything another this place is perfection, even down to the rice. It is always super soft and fluffy. The staff is always super friendly and there to answer any questions. read more

7.5 or 11 for one poke? Price slightly unclear, but I ended up getting a spicy salmon poke and a tuna poke, which had a slightly spicy soy sauce on the side to dip in, a medium rice, and a seaweed salad for about $30 total. I ended up being able to split this entire purchase into two meals, cuz I overestimated how much I could eat. There are no tables inside, just a couple chairs that once you finish ordering you take it to go. I have had this on my bucket list and am so glad I got to try it. The spicy salmon was much better in my opinion, the tuna not as nice in terms of fish quality. I'd definitely come again to try their rolls! read more

ORDER spicy salmon poke (5/5) seafood combo (4/5) the salmon was soso good. definitely the best ive had. the seafood combo was okay. the sauce was good, but too little was given for the amount of food. i tried a bit of the shoyu tuna, which tasted fishy. overall, this place is definitely worth the visit for the spicy salmon poke!! Some of the best Hawaiian poke I've ever had! The spicy salmon poke was my fav and was packed with flavor. It had onions and caviar which really elevated the poke and brought the dish to another level texturally. Also got the shoyu salmon which was a little spicy but super yummy as well. Ordered online just in case they sold out and got the food as soon as we got there. The place is a little market which seems to be family owned so I definitely recommend if you're in the city. read more

Take out shop so no place to dine inside or outside :) Fresh Poke + Sushi with a lot of sushi options. Not the best Poke I've ever had but overall still solid! FOOD: Spicy Salmon Poke (6/10) - Fresh salmon with decent sized portions for the price. A bit too much sauce on this one! Shoyu Salmon Poke (7/10) - Similar portion size with shoyu that you can pour on as you like. Liked this one slightly more than the spicy version. I saw this place through social media, but it didn't disappoint! A solid lowkey spot that is pretty no frills; it's takeout only, and has a few employees running the place! We tried mostly the sashimi and sushi here, and the plain slabs of salmon and yellowtail were our favorites. This little hole in the wall is a local legend. I hope it doesn't get blown up on social media...as I write a positive review... lol I doubt one would find this place on a whim unless you are specifically looking for seafood, poke or sushi. I never knew about Basa until my friend who lived in the city took me here. The little storefront doesn't stand out too much. Nothing outlandish or eye catching on the outside. It just looks like a seafood store. It's a bit dated on the inside, having that run down feeling. but the seafood tho...Can't go wrong there. It's fresh, very very affordable and filling. i have no idea how they are able to keep the prices so cheap! Not a complaint at all, just a speechless observation. read more

On a Mission stroll in Autumn watching the Characters which gives character to the neighborhood. It's Halloween everyday and night in San Francisco especially in the Mission. Adult Halloween and Halloween is now among us and the streets of the Mission has many tricks and treats. On 24th street there is a treat between Folsom and Treat . I use to pass this place many times and didn't take notice until it got my attention one day and I have never stop coming here because it's the best place to grab seafood to go in the area. This looks like an ordinary fish market on the outside but on the inside it's a gem and it has so much delicious good food on their menu either cooked or raw. Basa Seafood Express has everything from clams , fish and chips , lobster, poke, to salmon burgers. I wanted to order the raw oysters but they were not available but for some reason the fried oysters were available with french fries. The fried oysters were fresh and lightly fried and tasty and had its original flavor even in that batter and the fries were lightly seasoned and complemented the oysters. I then had their sushi rolls which was a combination of a California roll and the warm Volcano roll which was very tasty with the right amount of flavor in each roll. I always get their sashimi. The raw fish of the sashimi has good texture and it was so fresh and melted in my mouth. There is no seating at Basa so I went to a nearby place to grab a table and a drink in an open-air patio. For an express, fast seafood spot, I expected nothing much. I've heard about this place and the cheap, affordable poke but I figured it was mostly for value. Well, I was wrong because the salmon was fantastic. Comparable to our lovely fish in Washington. I've had mediocre sushi experiences in the Bay because they don't hold up to the PNW, but Basa is definitely similar. I originally came in and got Shoyu Salmon Poke, was asked if I wanted rice so I obliged. Was then asked for a size and being dumb, I got a large rice thinking that I was getting some combo so the poke would also be sized up. Anyways I had too much rice leftover. Went to a coffee spot, did some work, and came back for the Spicy Salmon Poke to pair with my rice. Shoyu Salmon Poke - I appreciated the soy sauce being on the side because I prefer fresh salmon sashimi. I didn't bother adding the sauce actually so it was really just salmon poke no shoyu. I saw in other pictures that people get full plates of salmon without sauce so I felt a bit cheated, like six cube slices of salmon could fit in the corner! Anyway, the salmon was fatty and fresh. Delicious and the cuts were cute to eat in small chunks. Spicy Salmon Poke - I guess this is probably more popular, it's their creamy signature with some spicy mayo and roe on top. No corner sauce container so you get all the fish. The spiciness is noticeable but not huge. Creamy salmon, again fatty and fresh. I loved this and honestly would order both because I'm indecisive and both are phenomenal. read more

There's not many places in the Bay Area, let alone SF, that you can score a plate of high quality raw fish for under $10. But Bass Seafood Express is one of them! This no-frills seafood market delivers in the quality of fish in ways that other restaurants fall short. Similar to a deli, you pick out your fish and they make it for you there quickly with toppings. And for the low price of $8.50 per plate, you can't really beat it! 5 stars all the way -- a perfect snack for a trip to the beach when you feel like enjoying the view! read more

The boyf as we are driving by: Oh Basa Seafood has good poke! Me: You're just NOW telling me???? Since I can't just drive myself to get freshest, yummiest hawaiian poke IN Hawaii... Basa Seafood Express will do the job within the city. (Mission area) The spicy salamon poke is where it's at. It reminds me of Hawaiian poke texture so much. And the price point is INSANE. $7?!?! We get one each of shoyu salmon, shoyu tuna, and spicy salmon ($7.50 a box), and make our own rice/add our own toppings like avocado and seaweed for a simple and tasty meal that is guaranteed to fulfill cravings!! An absolute gem in the Mission District! This is a great place to pick up sushi/sashimi to go and it is super affordable. It is very close to Dolores Park so it is the perfect picnic food on a sunny day. I ordered online for pick up and it was a seamless process. They have an area in the back for you to pick up your food instead of waiting in the line in front to order. I tried the Spicy Creamy Salmon Poke and Basa Special Roll. I also ordered small rice to pair with the poke. Spicy Creamy Salmon Poke - 10/10 - so creamy and so good! The salmon is super fresh and the sauce for it makes it super yummy. This is probably their best menu item and it is only $7.50! Basa Special Roll - 10/10 - I am a huge fan on scallop which enticed me to try this roll and I was blown away by how good it was! Usually I try to avoid rolls with the imitation crab meat but that paired with the scallop and salmon made a delicious combo. The scallop and salmon sizes were actually quite big which surprised me, there is also a good amount of rice (not too much) which made the roll 10/10 for me. read more

This place offers some of the best poke I've had in SF. While not as good as Hawaii poke, it is still really good. I usually will get the salmon, tuna, and spicy salmon. They are all incredibly fresh and buttery. The salmon, in particular, stood out--it's my usual preference over tuna. The flavors are balanced and satisfying. AMAZING take out poke spot in SF. One of the best casual poke spots in the city! Affordable, tasty and quick. Spicy mayo poke $7.5 was the standout! Fresh and fatty cubes of salmon with some fish egg garnish. The roll was also solid and grabbed some seaweed salad and rice on the side for a few more bucks. Saw such good reviews and how good the food looked here, so decided to stop by for a quick bite on a food tour our friend took us on. We got an unagi roll and the spicy salmon. Everything was fantastic. The spicy salmon was so flavorful, and I love that the pieces are smaller (quantity is not compromised) so there's spicy sauce on every bite! The unagi roll had 6 pieces, ingredients were fresh. There isn't an area to eat in the place, there is a case where you can get fresh pieces of uncut salmon/tuba. Unassuming market-like ambiance smack dab in the middle of 24th St in the Mission. I was expecting more of a quick 'get your food and get out' type of service, but the kind people working there were super friendly and patient. Prices are very fair and I saw lots of working-class folks coming in to grab a meal to-go. I ordered the spicy salmon poke, shoyu tuna poke (both already prepared), and a dragon roll. The fish tasted clean and the tuna was a great deep red--and not mealy at all (normally a sign of low quality or that it has been frozen too long/thawed improperly). Dragon roll was filling and tasty. Total came out to about $36 and change incl. tax. Great little gem in a culturally vibrant neighborhood. Will definitely be coming back here! read more

I saw a recommendation for this place advertising its affordable costs for good quality fish so as someone who wants a lot of quality food for cheap, we had to check this out. We decided to go in the middle of the afternoon an hour or so before closing so it wasn't very busy. This small little place is in the culturally diverse Mission district, which is worth a visit in and of itself. Once we went inside we ordered the Spicy Salmon Poke, Shoyu Salmon Poke, a side order of rice, and garlic fries (just because I was craving some). The food came out super fast despite having to wait for our fries. The poke were both flavorful but we prefer the Spicy one over the Shoyu, which was a little simple but still nice. We only got one rice because we wanted a bigger fish to rice ratio. However, we do regret this because the serving of fish was way smaller than we thought and the one side of rice and 2 servings of poke did not fill us up. It was still inexpensive quality, but we felt like this was only the case because the servings were small, which was disappointing. I've attached a photo with my hand so you can see to scale. The garlic fries had a lot of garlic, but not much seasoning so they were a bit bland. This is a convenient place to get a quick bite, but don't expect a feast unless you're ordering a lot. read more

I can't believe I lived in the mission for two years and it took me so long to try this spot! I had heard about it forever but I think my brain just didn't trust the idea of cheap poke but wow oh wow. I am generally not the biggest poke fan but this was incredible. I ordered a spicy salmon with rice. The salmon was the perfect texture and the marinade was delicious and actually spicy! I think it came out to $11 which was an amazing deal. Only thing is they forgot my friend's rice so probably best to order in person rather than online. I will be back!!! read more

When I arrived, there were just 2-3 people ahead of me in line, but it moved quickly--everything was already packaged and ready to go. Super efficient! I ordered the spicy salmon poke with a small side of rice (around $10) and the dynamite roll ($13). Let me tell you, every single bite was absolute perfection. I don't know if it was my post-hike hunger talking or if the seafood was just that good, but it hit all the right notes. The fish was incredibly fresh, and the sauce was flavorful without overpowering the natural taste of the fish. It might not quite transport you to Hawaii, but it's pretty darn close--especially for the price point! The dynamite roll was a standout too. We definitely couldn't afford to eat as much fresh fish and seafood as we do if it weren't for Basa Seafood Express. My wife and I are both seafood lovers and luckily for us, our kids are too. We're a pretty health conscious lot so fish plays a big part in our weekly menu planning. We've found, after all of our years living in San Francisco, that Basa Seafood Express offers the best variety and quality of seafood for the best prices. We also love that Basa has started to cook and serve some really tasty food options like fish tacos, fish and chips, deep fried mixed seafood and, of course, they're incredible clam chowder. It's a real treat for us to take our family here for lunch or sometimes an early supper and to pick up the fish we need for dinner for the next couple of days. If you're looking for something new to try or are wondering how to best prepare a particular type of fish or seafood, be sure to ask the shop owner. I stumbled upon this spot the other day and decided to check it out. I tried their pre-made California roll and some chicken gyoza, which was cooked fresh to order. They also offer poke bowls, and I heard they craft specialty rolls like Dragon rolls upon request. It's a great little find, and I'm happy I discovered it. Their sauce deserves its own section of this review because I swear I could put it on anything. I'm very much a sauce girlie and they understood the assignment. Service has always been solid every time I've gone, whether it's with family or a group of friends. Just consistently good food, good vibes and one of those spots I keep coming back to. We started off with what we call the OG location, closest to where we grew up, the Excelsior Hawaiian Drive Inn. We called in our order ahead of time because it was around lunchtime and there's always a long line. When we got there about eight minutes later, we paid (it's cash only), and we're on our way in less than two minutes. For fairness, we will be comparing the musubi and chicken katsu rice plate to compare. This location's food is made to order so it is still burning hot when we get it. They musubi was the perfect ratio of fluffy rice that stayed in one block to a 1cm thick slab of katsu. The oil that was used to fry the chicken was clear and clean. The sauce is the cherry on top of the perfect combo of carb and protein. The chicken katsu in the rice plate is the same melt in your mouth cuts of chicken in a crispy light batter. You get a large helping of rice and a macaroni salad that's light on mayo and complements the plate well. They come with a sauce that's not too salty or oily. This Hawaiian Drive Inn, in my opinion, is the best one in the Bay.

Chicken katsu curry is nice and juicy inside, crispy on the outside, with a medium bodied Japanese curry sauce-- exactly the way I'd expect it when I go to Japan. They have options to customize, eg mentaiko, extra katsu, etc, so def easy to get exactly what you are craving. Service is friendly, and food comes out quick. Both indoor, counter, and outdoor table space available, and it turns over pretty quick. Ordering togo is also pretty convenient (they hand you your phone out the window).
