This restaurant is for a special occasion, for us it was our anniversary. The service is very professional, the waiters are well dressed and know things by memory. The filet Mignon was SO good, cut it like butter. Their appetizers are unique and really have a flair to them. This was the first time I have visited and was very impressed. I came with my mom for lunch and we both went for the daily specials they had going. I got the Wagyu New York Strip on an open face bread with Brie Cheese and the flavors were impeccable. salted perfectly and beautiful marble pattern in the steak. This was the first Wagyu piece of meat I have ever tried and also the first New York Strip I have ever had and all I can say is, I can't wait to have more. Mom had the Grouper special which had lump crab on top which I didn't really notice the crab when we got the meal. Grouper was very tender but could have used a little more seasoning or lightly blackened maybe. But needless to say both were very good. Worst food I think I've ever had. My second time there and my last. Calling the health department Monday. Had two glasses of wine with my wife, one glass had lipstick on it and the other had slime. Order my steak medium rare and it was raw, sent back and it came out cold. The manager gave all these excuses about the kitchen. Save your money and go to McDonald's. read more

Bascom's is a great steak restaurant without all of the pretentious-ness and exhorbitant prices you may find at some steak restaurants. The steak is well marinated and cooked perfectly to medium rare every time I have ordered it. They also have a nice seafood selection that has never disappointed us. They have an upstairs level that can be used for private events with its own full bar. It is often used during the the weekday evenings for dinners for medical personnel hosted by pharmaceutical companies. This is a nice touch because it doesn't overwhelm the waitstaff taking care of regular customers. Parking is never an issue. This location is convenient for us because we live in the Carillon area. So when we are in the mood for excellent steak without a desire for all of the over the top frills, we come here. For our out-of-town guests looking for a unique experience in Tampa, we take them to Bern's. The wine cellar and dessert room are a novelty that can't be beat. However, the steak quality between Bascom's and Bern's is equal in my book. read more

Have driven by this restaurant many times and finally had a chance to stop in. When entering I thought it was going to be super pricey as the ambiance is beautiful. We were quickly seated at a booth with the table beautifully set. Meagan was or server and she was extremely attentive, friendly, funny and efficient. When checking in the free YELP appetizer popped up do we asked for her recommendation which was the jumbo garlic shrimp. 4 huge delectable shrimp swimming in a plate of yummy sauce. You had to use your bread to dip in ( which she brought extra knowing this). The rolls came in 3 varieties piping hot with butter. Shrimp and rolls could be a meal. She went over the chef specials and highly recommended 4 of them describing them as "stupidly good". I have never had grits before and never wanted to try them but these were cheesy Parmesan shrimp and grits and how could I not try something "stupidly good.. OMG!!! They were decadent. The grits melted in your mouth with shrimp and crispy pieces of pork belly afloat on top with an amazing sauce. Sinful to say the least. I guess this could be a southern version of surf and turf with shrimp and pork belly! My husband had jambalaya with andouille sausage which was very good and he loved it but too spicy for me. My boyfriend and I each ordered Filet Mignon medium well. Mine was overcooked and like leather. His was super rare. We sent them back expecting freshly cooked filet mignons. This place is so classy. The live piano music, the low lit ambiance, it's great for date night or family outing. My husband is a huge meat eater and I do not eat meat. Finally decided to give this 'chophouse' a try, after several promptings from a friend. Decided to try the place for lunch first, thus saving a potential evening splurge if all went well for the future. The interior decor is quite nice, clean, courteous servers, table linens (in your choice of black or white, huh?). Ordered a rib eye special from the daily specials menu, which came with garlic mashed potatoes, and vegetable. Had a nice drink while waiting, and was served bread, no, it was biscuits. A bit unusual, I thought, and worse, is that they didn't seem to be particularly fresh, or light, or anything special. A bit disappointing. Lunch for the 4 of us served about 10-15 minutes later. Now I was truly disappointed.... It was a lunch special, so I really only expected a very small, but very tasty piece of meat. What was served was very, very thin, and I'm afraid because of that, it ended up being very dry, without much moisture or taste at all. A bit over-cooked to boot for a medium steak, almost no pink whatsoever. The potatoes were very average, with no stand-out taste to take them to any other level, ala' Carraba's who still make the best mashed potato on earth, Every Time. So I looked back on this and ask why a chophouse would choose this piece of meat for a special? I can't figure it out. If they wanted to just serve something for a pre-valentine date to make some money and disappoint, why? Why not get even a slightly thicker of better-quality meat and just charge more? This a a very nice reataurant. We had mussels , ahi tuna, oysters for apps and they were all delish. For dinner we had top sirloin and filet mignon with mashed potatoes & creamed spinach. Everyone was very good. Desserts were the crème brûlée & bananas foster ( haven't seen that on a menu in a long time) both were very tasty! Our server was "T" and she was incredible! I was on a business dinner so I didn't have to pay so I am not really conscious of the prices. We had about 12 people in our group. Our waiter looked just like Stanley Tucci and he was excellent. I ordered the pork chop and was blown away. It was everything I hoped for and more. The wedge salad was perfectly blue cheesed, onioned and baconed. Our server Danny was beyond excellent and didn't miss a beat despite the fact the restaurant was extremely busy. Danny made spot on recommendations including the Wagyu ribeye which two of us had. I've eaten at Bascom's several times over the years. Lunch, dinner and even some company functions in the private dining upstairs. The food never disappoints and as a lunch destination I always grab the Bascum's Burger and the calamari appetizer usually is a hit for the table. The prices are in line with most steakhouses. Our server was excellent, I wish I could remember his name but he was very knowledgeable of the menu and walked us through everything. Had the worst dinner experience here! I dine all the time and have never encountered so many issues during one reservation. I first had Bascom's about 3 years ago when I was visiting and had a great experience. Since I was visiting, I made sure to make a reservation and was looking forward to it. However, the entire experience was disappointing. I had a reservation and was 5 minutes early, the hostesses (who were rude) said they'd seat me closer to my reservation time? Ok... waited 10 minutes after my reservations before being sat. My table was upstairs (not by request) and my waiter took another 10 minutes to come take our drink orders (he was no personable at all, actually could not stand him) then went MIA for another 10 minutes before coming back and letting me know that their signature cocktails are only made downstairs and he had to go get it allll the way down stairs. So your signature drink is a drink only offered to the bottom floor without complaints? Great! The drink was delicious, but I did not order another one bc I didn't want to hear my waiter complain about it or disappear for another 10 minutes (which he did anyways) I had the shellfish platter as an app, was okay nothing spectacular. The asian shrimp app was super bland and the shrimp was lacking any sort of texture. Our meals came, I had the petite filet that was requested medium to medium rare. It came well done with absolutely no pink. I did not eat my steak at all, only cut into it to be disgusted and still had to pay for it. It came with a baked potato, that was not fully cooked. I mean seriously?! I requested my toppings and only received sour cream. So a raw baked potato with sour cream. Lobster/ truffle Mac and cheese tasted like noodles in milk. Chicken Marsala completely dry and the sauce was horrid. Idk who their chef is but he needs to go back to culinary school. Our table was full of food when we left and my waiter only offered a free desert. I wouldn't eat anything else in this place if you paid me!!! I should've listened to my friends and went to the iconic steakhouse in Tampa. We ended up eating fast food on the way home bc we were so hungry. What a waste of a dinner while on a short vacation.
