Definitely one of my new favorite spots in Atlanta. I've been to many tapas-style restaurants here (don't get me wrong, love them all for the most part) but Basil's was really something different! I loooove Mediterranean food, and I got my fix here for sure. Went with a friend and we sat on the deck, which was so perfect for the nice weather! We had the antipasto (10/10), the ceviche, toasted ravioli, and the cauliflower. All of them were SO good. I only give 4 stars because the service was a little slow/inattentive, but it was such a nice night and everything else was so great that it really wasn't too bothersome. We had a wonderful lunch at Basil's Oct 29th. Our server "Bo" was warm and friendly. We had the mixed platter with delicious middle eastern salads! Grilled salmon and grits, and the trout! All amazing and clearly homemade! Can't wait to go back with my Scoutmob discount! Worth the drive! Our 2nd visit did not dissappoint! Service took a long time. This could have been mitigated if the food was good. It was not. I ordered bone in ribeye which I did not receive. When I noted this to a server she brought the manager. He was absolutely rude - told me "get to the point" and clearly was not interested in me having a good experience at the restaurant or engaging in good customer service. He stated the bone in ribeye did not arrive today, when I said that should have been clearly stated when I ordered the manager was dismissive (a prix fixe menu by the way so there were only a few options already and advising of changes to the menu would have not been difficult). It was a group of 5, with 2 in the group paying for another person (so 2 meals, 2 meals and 1) and a prix fixe menu. They were unable to split the check. I've been to many other restaurants and this is never a problem. Lastly, to put insult to injury they add an extra charge for using a card, which again was never clearly explained, the fee was just added to the bill. The bill came to over $100 per person and it's the year 2022, most of us do not carry that amount of cash regularly. All in all poor communication, rude customer service, poor food. We got mezze & mussels for appetizers then seafood paella and baked grouper on potatoes and spinach. The seafood was so fresh and spiced just right. Warning - the paella is different. It's more of a broth, seafood soup with jasmine rice. Jasmine rice which isn't the same as Spanish rice at all.. but I saw the pictures on yelp so I we were totally on board. The place reminded me of our honeymoon in st.maarten.. French bistro, classic and formal but mixed with a casual carribean vibe. Their tables had crisp white linens. really good tapas and cocktails! we loved all the seafood dishes and the drinks were worth the money. we went on a friday around 7:30 and it wasn't too busy and it was perfect if you're looking to go out and have a conversation. the staff were friendly and covid conscious. my only complaint is that the paella was served in a broth and wasn't like the paella i've gotten elsewhere but my partner loved it! If there are two words that can describe dinner at Basil's they would be "kind and enjoyable". Granted it was my first time eating there, but aren't first impressions also important? If a place is to remain in our hearts (and minds) isn't because it won one's heart (and lingered on one's mind) for more than the mere 15 minutes of fame so many use to gather acclaim? I am not a reviewer who lists every little thing wrong with a place because that is better left to each one of you, according to your own expectations. Rather, I base my assessment on the entire feeling I experience while having dinner wherever that may be: taste, smells, atmosphere, attitudes, etc., because, what is dining if not the pleasing of all senses well beyond gustation? For that, I'd say Basil's earns a solid 3 1/2 stars. You walk into Basil's through the front door/patio/bar. It's unexpected and interesting. A laidback restaurant, one may mistake patrons for employees and vice-versa - and that's a good thing in my view: I like to feel 'incorporated' in the best sense possible. We chose to dine inside - it was one of those muggy days - so the leafy, charming patio will need to wait for a second visit. Once we entered the small dining room, I felt relaxed - starting with our server Sofia - as per her outfit she could have been a patron who decided to wait on tables on a whim and I thought that was quite inviting. We ordered a single appetizer, the mushrooms flatbread, which could have had a thicker crust but it was tasty nonetheless; the grouper special: perfectly pan-fried and appropriately sauced; and the Mediterranean mix, well-prepared (even if not fancily presented) and correctly seasoned. So, where the kindness comes into play? Right at the moment when Sofia brings my mom's grouper dish without the arugula that should come with it but if it did, it would 'disrupt' my mother's strict Warfarin's diet. Did I request the greens to be removed? No, Sofia offered it as a courtesy. Was she thinking about her tip? Perhaps, however that's the part of service that keeps you guessing and tipping accordingly. The pièce de résistance? The cheerful goodbye received on our way out from one of the cooks taking a break in the backyard porch: a clear reminder that if you come in with an open mind, you may leave with a buoyant heart. read more

Organized a business meal with my colleagues from the West Coast. Its hot and muggy here in the city so we decided to take our early dinner inside where it was nice and cool. Loved the decor, art and light fixtures. Place has an easy, breezy kinda feel. My colleagues absolutely adore the place. It was our first time here and it was less than 10 minutes from the buckhead office. We ordered old fashioned without the eye while we nibbled on the delectable house pies, the in flatbread with sundried tomatoes or were they olives? Hell I dont recall because the drinks were so strong. My party ordered the sea bass ( we let the waiter fillet it for us), Greek shrimp, sea scallops and grits, and the Mediterranean kebab. Dessert was creme brule, lemon cake and tiramisu. Oh shoot...we ordered ceviche and mushroom flatbread appetizers. Party of 5 but we feasted like it was Thanksgiving. I have never written a review this low, but I was extremely disappointed in Basil's. My husband and I went there this past Saturday night as a "Valentine's" dinner since our work schedules are crazy during the week when actual valentine's day is. There was some sort of event set up on the patio, which didn't start until after we arrived. The restaurant itself was nice, but we were packed in like sardines! My chair was bumped multiple times throughout my meal and waiters were passing food for the table behind me over my head. Everyone working seemed very overwhelmed. This did not make for a good ambiance. Both of our cocktails were watered down and not very strong. I don't mind paying $12 for a cocktail, but when I do...I expect it to be worth it! Our server was very hard to hear and mumbled whenever he spoke. I got the paella, which was just okay. It was swimming in broth and seemed much more like a soup than a paella. Looking at the pictures of other reviews, I see that mine was much different than what other people have previously ordered. My husband got the half rack of lamb. He asked for medium rare and it came out medium, but it was still good. Overall, this was a very lackluster Valentine's dinner, which I now feel like we need a re-do on. I came here on a Thursday afternoon for lunch. The outdoor sitting area is very nice perfect for patio dining. The menu was pretty limited and they don't offer brunch during the week which I didn't realize. The give you this good little pizza when you sit down and its so yummy!!! I ordered the Mediterranean sampler which had chicken? Hummus, grape leaves, salad , rice and pita which was great because you can taste everything. The Hummus and Rice was definitely the star of the dish. It was supposed to come with falafel but I was given grape leaves instead which I don't like grape leaves so that was disappointing I wanted the falafel. The saffron sauce that is on the rice is stellar. The chicken was dry it definitely needed some kind of sauce on it. There was only one server who was the host and bartender so service was definitely slow but not lacking. I will definitely go back for dinner or brunch read more

This places is amazing! The food is fantastic, the atmosphere and ambiance is perfect and the entire staff is super friendly. Stopped by for dinner one night while in town for business and had one of the best meals I've ever had in my entire life! To get the full experience my group shared several appetizers to include the mushroom flatbread, ceviche and calamari. All were amazing! I personally chose the veal for my main course. It came accompanied by the most creamy and delicious mashed potatoes I've ever eaten as well as some very nice green beans. For dessert I had a slice of limoncello and mascarpone cake that was absolutely to die for! I got in an argument with the waiter about nut allergies. My friend has a nut allergy and we told them before we sat down. They proceeded to bring out pesto on a dish. Came here because it was open on Christmas Day and we unexpectedly ended up going out for dinner. The menu was pre-fixe and had a decent amount of variety. The restaurant is small but decently nice. We had a reservation but still had to wait 10-15 min to be seated. It was crowded and the employees were really hustling. Good selection of wine and full bar. The food was tasty. I had the mesa appetizer, filet mignon, and baklava. All really good. Service was ok- but I'm sure that's mainly because it was just really busy in there. They ran out of the dessert my mom asked for but other than that everything was available and it was all fresh and very good. On a scale of 1-5: Ambience: 3 Food: 4 Service: 3 The one sour point in the experience was getting my car back from the valet. Valet is complimentary but of course tips are customary. The valet was rude. He was apparently not happy with the tip my husband gave him, so after looking at it/counting, he handed the money back...to my father, who we had taken out for Christmas dinner. The space is charming yet sophisticated. The service was excellent. We started with tapas- Mediterranean mezze, baked Brie and Kibbel rolls (A-mazing flavor). For entrees we had their grouper special, paella with tons of seafood and chorizo (made more like a seafood rice soup rather than traditional paella in Spain, which was a plus for us), and the scallops. Rainy Monday night and I ordered door dash pick up from Basil's at 6:10pm. "Alaskan" basil salmon with quinoa. Estimated deliver 7:15. Ok, order finally shows up at 8:15 after my dasher has been sitting at the restaurant for an hour (!) 2 hours to prepare 1 meal? We live nearby so we order takeout often from Basil's. Our standard order is the mezza appetizer, Greek shrimp, lamb burger, spinach salad, and the Greek salad. So many places do not have a clue about how to make a proper Greek salad, but Basil's has the best one in the ATL: romaine, green and red bell pepper, green olives, radish slices, feta cheese, and a classic vinaigrette. I am a pushover for a decent lamb burger, and Basil's is very good. We split a piece of tiramisu for dessert, but I recommend not sharing it with anyone. read more

The Atlanta Cashmere Mafia had lunch here today and had a great time! We initially wanted to go to Treehouse, but they were closed for lunch!?!? Anyways, we wanted to sit outside and enjoy the nice weather and were tipped about this place. I am glad we came...the patio area is sooo nice! I think I was the only guy in the restaurant. Definitely a Buckhead Betty and Girls Luncheon tape place...which I guess in our case was perfect! The patio is surrounded with potted flowers and there were fans surrounding the area to give it a nice breeze. The menu looked really good. You can get small plates, pizzas, sandwiches and entrees. Everything definitely had a Mediterranean and Italian vibe to it. Our waitress brought out a mini-pizza like bread for us to snack on and it was delicious! I ordered the special of the day which is a Grouper Sandwich, Erin got the Greek Salad, and Allison got the Crab Cake Sandwich. Everyone really enjoyed the food and it was nice and quiet that we could really talk and gossip with one another. The only negative was the lack of parking. Allison and I had to park on the street in a neighborhood nearby the place while Erin was lucky to find something behind the building but had a hard time getting out. Unspectacular at best. You start off with some type of olive flatbread which is interesting I guess. The linguini checca was decent, has good flavor, nice chunks of chicken, and a little stingy on the mozzarella. At $13 this is too expensive for a lunch pasta. Decent, but not at that price. On the flip side, they have a Prosciutto Mozzarella Panini that was a complete disaster. I don't know what to make of it. First, the prosciutto was of low quality, it had more of a standard ham taste (yes, I know it is ham but if you are a fan of prosciutto you understand what I am saying here), it was cut too thick and was chewy. A great prosciutto melts in your mouth. The mozzarella...I kid you not...was of the deli sliced variety. How could you not be using bufala here? On top of this, it was completely over-spiced with I don't know what, maybe to mask the flavor of the sub-par ingredients. This place really deserves 2 stars based on the panini alone, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt that everything else on the menu is MUCH BETTER. read more

Met here with a small group of friends for a relaxing night on the patio. I had the hummus that was delicious with a MoscowMule. The vale guy was really nice and it's complementary but there's also place to park on the street. It's a great atmosphere of clean white tablecloths inside and rustic wooden patio outside. Live music was pleasing and added to the outdoor ambiance. The owner socialized with the guests making everyone welcomed as a family. I will most definitely go back here for the food and the ambience, especially for big birthday crowd, the patio is perfect with the city lights coming through the trees. Upon arrival there was no host, and the wait staff just looked at us like we were stupid, did not greet us, and told us to sit wherever we like with an attitude. The waitress was mediocre at most - no greeting or introduction, no attempt to make us feel welcome, no suggestions. My date ordered the paella - tasty and flavorful, but soupy with a ton of sauce floating at the bottom. I had the salmon with vegetable ratatouille, which was tasteless and plain, and fish was tough. On top of it all, the salt was not coming out of the shakers, and after attempting 3 different wet shakers the waitress gave up on us and never got us a working one. I doubt I will go back. Immediately and probably by accident, I was greeted by Beaux, a handsome gentleman that would later be our server. For the first time, I was not the first to arrive. Pleased to see one of my girlfriends was also ten minutes early, I joined her at the bar. We ordered drinks from the bartender, Sean, who also gave us privy to the menu additions that evening. There was a pan seared Snapper, an Ahi Tuna with vegetable risotto, and bacon wrapped scallops with jalapeno cheese grits. Right away, I knew that the scallops were my destiny. As the other ladies trickled in, we sat down at our reserved table. I am very happy that I made a reservation because the entire place was filled by 7:30pm and once again we had our round table where we could see and be seen. As if it was a tradition, we asked Beaux for two bottles of wine that were moderately priced. He succeeded by delivering something medium bodied with a smooth finish. Within minutes of our table being complete Joe, the proprietor, who couldn't have been more delightful, greeted us. He sent over an appetizer of calamari that was completely devoured in minutes. Joe loves treating his guests and although it is not really included in our quest, anything free is a huge perk! The tomato and mozzarella salad was small but decadent and the balsamic vinaigrette that was drizzled on top tasted as good as it looked. My entree of bacon wrapped scallops still makes my mouth water as I write this. The scallops were cooked perfectly and everyone at the table enjoyed sharing the jalapeno cheese grits! The vegetable risotto from the Ahi tuna dish was also unforgettable. Too bad that the food here is good but they lost my debit card and charged me $400 that pended for 5 business days! This is one of our favorite restaurants to go to, always a good date night choice. The calamari and muscles are both the best appetizers, and large enough for a decent size entrée. The hummus platter is always worth getting, And the flat breads are fire. The only thing that was just OK was the Calabrese pasta. Basil's is tucked away on Grandview Ave off of Pharr in Buckhead ~ a small converted house with a large patio (heated in the winter) and intimate dining room with fireplace inside. On a Tuesday night they were not offering valet parking, which was a bummer since it was pouring rain! Luckily my date was sweet enough to drop me off up front and then find a spot... When I walked in I was greeted immediately and asked where I would like to sit ~ since it was my first time I took a quick tour and decided on a table next to the fireplace! My date finally joined me after parking and we began surveying the extensive wine list. We decided on the Fire Road sauvignon blanc, I appreciate that our server brought out a bucket of ice to keep the wine cold, nothings worse than warm white wine! Our server then began rattling off several specials (at least 6) ~ everything sounded delicious but because there were so many I couldn't keep them straight. I would recommend that Basil's has there specials listed somewhere ~ either on a chalkboard or extra menu insert... For dinner I had the seared ahi tuna with vegetable risotto and a soy glaze ~ the tuna came out perfect, still pink in the center. The risotto was super creamy and full of veggies ~ I definitely cleaned my entire plate! The date had the pork tenderloin with mashed potatoes and broccoli ~ his meal was fine, but nothing to get excited about. Overall great experience! read more

Love! From start to finish we had an awesome experience. The ambiance was great - inside modern decorations with impressive art work and outside - their BEAUTIFUL deck! I suggest sitting on the deck and enjoying a beautiful Atlanta evening! The service was OUTSTANDING. Heather was our server and she was so attentive and sweet. My family (10 people) took me to celebrate my Birthday. The food was great the service was good and the music was lovely !! We were having a nice time but the owner put a damper on the evening, was so nasty he repeatedly kept telling the server to go and clear our table while we were still finishing our drinks and dessert !!!! I am generally a forgivable person, however the dinning experience tonight is no where close to acceptable. It doesn't even deserve one star. When I arrived my family and I were just standing around for a good 5 minutes before I had to go hunt someone down for a table. Another 15 minutes until I got up to fetch the menus myself. I saw that they were having specials on the website and even called in and the associate ensured me that it is the regular menu + specials. To my surprise, they got rid of their menu and were only serving ridiculously overpriced "specials" for Christmas. So I guess they lied, and that is not even the end of it. They were extremely understaffed with 3 servers for the entire floor and one of them explained to me that they took 200 reservations which the restaurant clearly could not handle. The server herself was confused and uninformed about the things they were serving that night. The place was crowded with people standing around without tables, hot, noisy, and just a big chaos no one seemed to know how to control. We had to wait for a total of an hour and 15 minutes to simply GET OUR FOOD. It's really no surprise that the food was mediocre. My entire family was hungry, tired, and irritated the whole night. On top of that, I had to wait a good 10 minutes in line just to hand my valet parking ticket over. Overall, it was a night I wouldn't wish on anyone. Basil's offered me the worse dining experience beyond anything I imagined possible. Our entire family's night was a disaster and I will neither return nor recommend this place to anyone. read more

I'll be honest, the only reason a friend and I picked Basil's to dine at was because of the Scoutmob. I've lived in the Atlanta area all my life, Buckhead for the past few years and never even heard of Basil's. And I am so glad that they participated in the Scoutmob deals because this place is amazing! We got to dinner about 7:30 and we're initially annoyed because the valet was no where to be found. And there is pretty much zero street parking so we weren't sure what to do. A few minutes later the valet pops up, he had been jumping someones car that had a dead battery- how sweet! After getting the car taken care of we walked in and I was surprised at how big the restaurant was. It's in one of these homes that look tiny from the street but are very deceiving. Anyways, it was not half full which was a little surprising considering the Scoutmob came out earlier this month. So we got a table right away and ordered some wine. The waitress was very knowledgeable about the wines and recommended a delish white blend. Time for food- I had the BBQ Salmon and it was amazing. I never finish an entree and I ate every last bit, pretty much wanted to lick the plate it was that good. The jalapeno cheese grits worried me a bit at first, I didn't want something super spicy but they were perfect. I was too busy cleaning my plate to try my friend's food but she had nothing but good things to say about the basil pasta. I will say our server was not 100% attentive, especially considering the lack of other diners, but that was actually not a problem for me. We have now eaten here twice in the last one month. The first time we went for lunch. We shared the mushroom flatbread and it was really, really good. For entrees we tried the Greek shrimp and the crab cake Benedict. Both were absolutely delicious. When we came for dinner, we tried the calamari which was cooked well, came with fried peppers and onions, and tasty aioli. For entrees we tried the filet mignon and the branzino. The filet was a perfect medium as requested and the accompanying mushroom sauce was devine. The whole branzino was also perfectly cooked with an amazing garlic/herb sauce. One of the best fish preparations we have had. The outside patio is beautiful and we were able to bring our puppy. The live musician provided a wonderful atmosphere. We made a dinner reservation based on reviews, location and menu prices from their website (generally in the 20's for food). Google maps had no idea how to find the place and after calling, we finally arrived just in time for our reservation. No parking, valet only (not a huge surprise for Buckhead). Turns out they only had a valentines dinner menu. Meal prices from 58 to 72. I was shocked. We had tickets to a show and there was no time to go find another place. My wife and I ordered the grouper. Her's was a very nice white piece of fish. Mine was dark and a large portion was grey which I did not eat. When I brought it to the owner's attention he showed some attitude but did at least take 10% off the check. A unique experience! Very authentic atmosphere in a Buckhead neighborhood. Their patio is the best in Atlanta. Sit under oak tree with flower beds all around you and enjoy mediterranean cuisine. If you have never been then wait for a nice warm day or night and sit out on patio. read more

Took my wife here for Valentine's day, and initially thought it was going to be a disaster. Showed up just before our reservation time, and was told there would be a 40 minute wait. Apparently, the owner had a problem with Opentable reservation system, and it was still taking reservations even though he had shut it down multiple times. But the owner handled it great, put out appetizers etc. Even with the overwhelming crowd, it actually only took 20 minutes to get a table, and the food was amazing! My wife had lamb chops that were just perfectly cooked, and seasoned with a mint rub that was awesome. I was in the mood for a steak and had one of the best Ribeyes I have ever had. We both had grilled asparagus and a-gratin potatoes, both of them were perfect. Service was also fantastic. If the owner, chef, and wait staff can perform like this under such circumstances, imagine how good it must be under normal circumstances. read more

Basil's is the perfect neighborhood go-to spot. First of all, their jalapeño cheese grits are incredible. Like, they're amazing. You have to go, and you must get them. I was there recently for dinner, and I almost passed out when our waiter announced the nightly special: Bacon-Wrapped Scallops served with a side of the grits. I love bacon-wrapped anything, first of all, so I was totally sold. The dish was amazing and I think/talk about it often. Their brunch is great, too - yummy omelettes and, of course, the grits, and their patio is one of the best in B-head. Oh, and they have a delicious Vinho Verde that is light and delicious and sells for $26/bottle. The service is decent - the waiters are definitely really friendly, but it's not always super-speedy...the owner is very hands-on and even brought my friends and I dishes to try that he was having the chef try out.
