This was my first (and last) visit to Basils. Three of us had an 8:00 reservation- which typically means that there will be a table reserved for you upon your arrival, Right? Basils does things a little differently... While they accept online reservations- they cannot honor them and treat those the same as a walk ins. We were seated at 8:50. Already annoyed, I kept an eye on the clock throughout the night- here is a chronological set of events. 8:51- The most casually dressed girl in the entire place (who we find out later is our waitress) shows up and asked us what we want to drink. No introduction what so ever... 8:52- a bus boy comes to our table (which was set for four) and hyjacks my boyfriend's full drinking glass... We reach across the table and grab him a spare. This wasn't a huge deal but gave us a laugh and definitely goes with the theme of the service for the night. 9:05- our waitress (literally) tossed a cheesy flatbread into the center of the table. After waiting over an hour for our table at this point, we were starved and the flatbread quickly disappeared. 9:24- our food finally arrives- I ordered the grilled salmon. The other two ordered the seafood pasta. The salmon was a surprisingly small portion in comparison to the gigantic pasta dishes (maggiano sized portions) The filet itself was on the small side and was lukewarm at best. It was served over vegetables- some of which were hot as hell while others were cold. I tried a bite or two of my friends pasta- nothing to rave about but it wasn't bad either. I'd rate it a 3.7 out of 5. (The .3 was deducted due to the fact that my friend found a shrimp shell in his.) 9:29- my plate was completely cleared. Still hungry. Check process 9:50 ish- we used a scout mob to try this place out... Knowing this- Our waiter left SEVERAL hints at her tip and was super concerned with receiving her full 15%. Perfectly fine with me- I usually tip way more than that (even for poor service) but as she repeatedly pleaded for the 15- that's what she got. 15% and a poor review on Yelp. read more

I hosted a bridal shower at Basil's and it was perfect! We had it on the patio and it was beautiful! Joseph was SO helpful in customizing a menu for our group. The price was beyond reasonable and the service exceeded the standard! They set up tables for the drinks and gifts and any request we had, they completed it! The food was delicious, the drinks were so tasty, and the setup was perfect! There are so many cliche places in Atlanta to host a shower like Swan Coach House, but Basil's is unique and memorable! Highly reccomend! I am getting thank you notes from guests b/c it went so well! One thing--I did have some issues with getting the payment processed, but they were honest and refunded the higher amount charged. They could have just charged me more and refunded the smaller amount (I didnt realize tip was already included)... I wouldnt have known the difference and they did. We had a great evening for our high school reunion dinner. When I called Basil's to enquire about having a party of 25 for dinner , Joseph called me right back, invited me to come in a few days ahead to check out the menu and the atmosphere. I found it to be a great place, tucked away on a side street in the heart of Buckhead. They were very accommodating, worked with us on an affordable menu, and let us stay as long as we wanted with no additional room charge or banquet fee. Everyone at the reunion had a great time, loved the food and wine list. The service was excellent. They let us come in early and decorate our area. The guitarist who played on Saturday evening was fantastic. It is true that they have to have the best deck in Atlanta. Beautiful weather and ambience, great friends, great service, food and wine. Went for lunch with a cllient. Food is ok at its best. They looked unappealing and messy. The restaurant is ran down and very dirty. We were seating on the patio and it looked nice but bugs and fruit flies were everywhere. I know you expect to see bugs when you seat in the patio. But, they were way too many of them that day. Basil's is a sham! Tucked in a "house" in a great neighborhood around excellent restaurants like Pricci their food is terrible and overpriced! I had a salmon Caesar salad that would have been rejected by Whole Foods on its best day! Wine bottles and cheap liquor, hid poor customer service and a wait staff that was evidently hustled up from the labor pool! The best thing about the place is the valet parking attendant who because he was busy "studying" lost my umbrella! When you are in the area, please save your money and go down the street to Houston's or hang a left and go to Pricci. read more

Excellent! I have to start off by saying that this place definitely was well worth the visit. I stumbled across Basil's as I was trying to find a cute little place in Buckhead to have dinner! Well low and behold I clicked on Basils and knew immediately that I had to reserve a spot to check it out! Upon arrival I noticed that there was complimentary valet! Yes! First point! Once I walked in I was pleasantly pleased to see how the layout they have set up on the patio. Since I booked my reservation on opentable.com I was awarded my 1,000 dining points! #winning. Service was beyond great! I have to shout out Matt for being so courteous and helpful with creating such a memorable first dining experience here! We ordered some margaritas and even though they were out of my favorite patron they had an amazing substitute! No appetizers were ordered however they brought out some great pita bread and another little dish that I posted. The entrees we choose were the stuffed chicken breast and the lamb burger! DELICIOUS! Both entrees were cooked to perfection and we had no need for a to-go box! I couldn't even save none for later if I tried! The restaurant had the right ambiance for the event with holiday music playing in the background. The event and valet staff were very friendly and payed close attention to our needs for the event. The owner worked with us very closely on our budget and went above and beyond to make sure our event was special. Just had the best dinner at Basils! How have I never heard of this place before? Absolutely amazing, delicious meal with a superb wine selection. It also has a perfect outdoor eating area, and the service was really great. They were out of too many things. Had the feeling it was on its last legs. On a Saturday night in the heat of summer, I ordered ceviche off the menu. Out of ceviche? How? It's essentially the same ingredients as menu items soaked in citrus. Only gin they had in stock was Bombay. Half the dessert items not available. Small crowd for a Saturday and the restaurant across the street was packed. Main courses were good. My wife had a grouper special that was awesome. Buckhead Resturant Week brought me and a girl friend here. Complimentary valet was awesome. Was seated immediately. They brought us table snacks (some sort of flat bread) and we ordered off of the set menu: calamari, crab fritters, pork tenderloin and lamb chops and dessert for $25/35. Calamari was the best part of the meal. A salad was part of the set menu but we did not get any, even though the other tables around us did. There was no knife in my silverware set. Both meats were mediocre. She asked for hers medium rare and it was WAY over cooked. Probably won't be back. read more

My wife and I came here on a Saturday for lunch. We try to try out new restaurants every week. Bottom line - this place is great and we'll be returning here for sure. We sat out on their beautiful patio which was so relaxing on a nice (not too hot) day. Our waiter was almost as cool as I am and he suggested we start with a nice bottle of Oyster Bay Sauvignon Blanc with a whole artichoke cooked in a very tasty sauce which the waiter refused to divulge the ingredients of. It was sensational and a very good choice for the wine. I had the lamb burger from the menu and my wife had the scallop salad which was one of the specials of the today. Both of these entrees were absolutely sensational. The best part was that everything was so relaxing and unhurried. Maybe it was because of the cocktails, followed by the oyster bay sauvignon, followed by the other glass of wine, but for me and my wife the meal was very memorable. Food and service were excellent. We had the hot and cold mezze platters with traditional foods like kabobs, rice, babaganoush, hummus, and dolma. Everything was delicious. Service was spot on and friendly. The outdoor patio of the restaurant was booked for a private party, but since we had asked to be seated outside, someone set up a table for us in a little garden beside the restaurant. The waiters and waitresses had to work extra hard to run out to us each time, but they did it. I actually loved the setting. It was very private and comfortable. This place was fantastic! I had no problems getting a reservation for 4 on a Friday evening; we had a great table on the patio. Shared the hummus platter for an appetizer which was delicious; they featured 3 seafood entrees for their evening specials and all were absolutely fantastic. Basil's has been my favorite restaurant for years! I love the ambiance. I love the food. The staff is attentive and friendly! On special occasions or when I have visitors in town this restaurant is where I prefer to take them. One girlfriend I introduced agrees with me that the Basil House salad is the absolute best salad we've ever tasted. Mixed baby greens, walnuts, cucumber, orange and green peppers, mandarin orange slices, garbonzo beans and plump raisons - it never fails to delight! I love the outdoor terrace as well as the cozy indoors for cooler weather. The food is always prepared just right and delicious. My favorite! Reviewing Brunch. The filet mignon and eggs benedict was amazing. I nearly licked the plate the hollandaise was so perfect. The eggs exploded and soaked into the english muffin and it turned messy quickly but I would order it again and again. The grits were different and also extremely good. If I had to guess, it was a white cheddar with jalapeños that gave them their flavor. The skillet potatoes were top notch and charred just the way I like them. The kids with us had french toast that was near perfect. Another friend had an omelet and loved it. The "breads" on the table (apple/cinnamon, chocolate/chocolate chip, banana/walnut) were a wonderful addition to the meal. The reason this doesn't get 5 stars is due to the rest of my party. One felt that there was a spice in her omelet (crab/shrimp) that overpowered the rest of the flavor. She loved the rest. Another in our group doesn't like oregano and the panini had lots of it which threw him. That doesn't mean it wasn't good for people that like or don't mind oregano. But the real failure was probably the pancakes which were very, very dry. With syrup, they weren't bad but they needed work. I will go back for sure though. Nice restaurant. They have complimentary valet which is nice on a street that doesn't have much room for parking. The atmosphere is very nice. The patio is very large and cool due to the amount of trees and very large umbrellas. It is also not very busy during lunch time it seems so it's nice to got to a nice restaurant without being surrounded from people. The menu is not attractive at all and makes it hard to look through to decide what you want. Our waiter was very kind and very attentive. We were brought a complimentary appetizer of the, "house pizza". It was not good at all. When my food came out, I had a smile on my face because the food looked great. I quickly dug in and was very impressed. My dish was excellent! I also tried some of the other food at the table (fish tacos and some tomato pasta dish) and thought those were good as well. I just have a few lines to write about this place :-). I am fairly new to Atlanta by way of NY. So I'm still exploring the tastes of Atlanta. I live in Dunwoody, so I've pretty much had my fair share of the dining spots in that area. I'm currently planning a company event and was looking around for a different restaurant with a warm feel, outside of the Dunwoody/Sandy Springs area. I stumbled across Basil's on Google one night. Well the next day I placed a call to speak to someone about Banquet planning & particulars. At the end of the conversation the nice young lady mentioned to me, "well I'll have the owner call you and tell you about specializing your meal selections for your event". I thought, "um, ok", but wasn't going to hold my breath for a call back. Well 2 days later, the Owner, Joseph did call me and even invited me to his restaurant to sample some items in preparation for our event. I obliged and boy was I pleasantly surprised. Restaurants like these in NY, are what we'd call HIDDEN TREASURES. I don't know where to start the FOOD (we had relatively all the items from the appetizer section, and a plate with all of the Evening's Specials on one plate nicely presented to us). My Goodness the selections were EXCELLENT; Staff was Wonderful (Our server was nice gentlemen named: Sean), Atmosphere is quaint & comfortable - I guess picture perfect comes to mind & a rather large Wine listing to speak of. Literally, I couldn't stop smiling & looking around during my visit here. They even had a guitar musician present on the patio that evening (I definitely think this guy's a keeper). The owner & thus his staff TOTALLY GET what Superb customer service is all about. Well needless to say, my search is over. Not only has the OWNER & MY dining experience at Basil's sold me as the ONLY OPTION for our upcoming event, but this has now been placed on my narrow list of personal dining favorites, going forward. I can't wait for our upcoming event & to bring friends & family here that'll be visiting Atlanta! The only CON I can think of to mention is Parking. read more
