This is a hidden gem that people tend to easily overlook and pass. Small family owned and run little Korean place. Really yummy and easy to go food, for a cheap price. I first noticed this shop tucked in the shopping center with Nob Hills, Starbucks and pet food express. Upon walking in my first time, in hopes for my favorite: Kimbap. I was ecstatic to find that had kimbap, and at a very reasonable price: under $7. Our favorites when visiting this place are the: - kimchi bowls(chicken or beef) - bulgogi kimbap The store is very clean and you can tell the owners take price in the cleanliness and interior of their store. Never had a bad experience here, and I've been going for the last few years. The spicy pork or chicken ramen is always perfect for a cold day, or any day really! Generous servings, broth is always piping hot and you get your money's worth. Restaurant is always clean, and the owners are always courteous and friendly. BB bowl was the first Ramen place I tried, and I always compare others to BB bowl. So far, none have risen to the challenge; I have 3 ramen places within 5 miles of me in Concord, and I STILL will drive to Alameda to go here. Try it yourself and see! BB Bowl sort of looks like a Korean Chipotle. They often have a lot of items that are not on the normal menu, such as a Pork Ramen, Galbi, Korean Fried Chicken, and Tonkatsu. Their Rainbow rice bowls are all solid, and in general, the food is priced really well. I recommend to get them with a runny egg on top! The Curry bowls could use some sort of vegetable in them, but are great on a cold day. My kids all dig it, so we often get takeout from here. Hubby and I always went to BB Bowl back then. We went when it had first opened up a few years ago. I honestly miss eating in at the restaurant. The staff is always friendly and their menu has expanded since the beginning. I was going to head down to Hubby's house after work on Friday, and he decided to buy food for us so when I came down, I'll have something to eat. The first time he did this, he bought me the beef bulgogi bowl. It was sooo delicious! I love bulgogi and to have that with rice, it's so yummy! I forgot that there was different bowls, and had thought it came with veggies too. The bowl I really wanted was the rainbow bowl, but I didn't specify to him what I wanted, so he got me his favorite. The second time Hubby went here to get us food, he actually got the rainbow bowl that I wanted. I love bulgogi, but if that is all I'm eating with rice, it's a bit much, and some veggies would really compliment it. He got the rainbow bowl and my goodness! It was sooo good. I love the added veggies to my bowl, if I could, it would be all veggies and protein. I can't wait for things to go back to being able to dine in, I miss it and can't wait to come back! read more

Another small local restaurant that's geared towards takeout that I've been wanting to try...no better time than during this time of stay at home restrictions. Called ahead to place my order on a Friday at around 5:00pm. Ordered one BiBimBap Bowl (or Rainbow Rice Bowl), one Beef Bulgogi Bowl and one Korean Fried Chicken. I asked if they had Kimbap (Korean Sushi Roll) because I didn't see it on the online menu. They said they could make it but it would take an extra 15-20 minutes. I decided to forgo the Kimbap this time, but it was good to know that they were willing to make it. I arrived to pickup my order in about 30 minutes. No waiting as I was the only customer at the time of pickup and my order was ready. The cashier was wearing a mask and the interior was clean. When I got home I noticed everything was in the good quality microwaveable containers. Everything was still very warm and was very delicious! I really enjoyed the Beef BiBimBap with the assortment of fresh ingredients! No complaints whatsoever and no doubt I'll be a returning customer. I give them overall 5 stars for my experience. We love this restaurant for our whole family! We've been getting takeout here at least once a week for almost two years and the food never disappoints us. I love all the vegetables in the dishes and everything is extremely flavorful. Our favorite dishes are definitely the bibimbop (their rainbow rice bowls), but everything we've had has been fantastic. Best of all, they have a kid's meal, which both my three-year-old and one-year-old love. It's so rare to find a kid's meal that actually includes vegetables! My kids ask to get a kid's meal all the time because they love the food so much. The owners of the restaurant and the staff are also extremely kind and we love supporting a truly local business. I ordered bowl here and I was not impressed. It was literally meat and rice, not even a measly head of broccoli to offset the plate. I felt a little overpriced and the flavor of the meat was not amazing for me to want to come back. I would be more inclined to grab some thing from the sushi place down the parking lot. I was recovering from a cold so I thought some kimchi soup from this place would be good, but the place was just okay. It was one of those order at the counter, then find a table kind of place. I was planning on getting some kimbap on my way there, but when I asked for it, the staff said that it took around 15-20 min. I don't know, but it kinda sound like he doesn't really want to make it. I ended up with a vegetarian, soft tofu, kimchi soup. It came out looking a bit kinda plain. There were 3 banchans: some pickle, radish, and a naba kimchi. The pickle and radish were boring, but the kimchi was nicely seasoned, it have a good funk flavor, a good sour, and it still have some crunchiness. The rice was a bit dry though, but the soup was able to fix it. The soup was not bad, it had about the right amount of salt, well I mixed the egg yolk in so the flavor was just right. Even though the meal wasn't that bad, I didn't really feel like I get the complete Korean restaurant experience, may be I'll just stick with the poke next time. read more

Mom & Pop restaurant that I enjoy going to for very good korean food. Nothing jaw-dropping or eye-popping about the food, but solidly tasty, and the prices are so affordable that you shouldn't expect gourmet. I've taken my immigrant korean mom, and she gave it a thumbs up. my personal go-to is the bulgogi kimchi bowl. though bulgogi is a bit sweet for my personal taste, my daughter inhales the whole thing. i still get it almost every time. the gimbap is also nothing to write home about, BUT, it tastes like home, to me. basically how my mom would make it! simple, solid, tasty, and super good "on-the-go" food. in the "covid world," they adjusted well, with "cough shields", sanitized pens, have you insert your own cc, so doing just fine there. I especially appreciate how friendly the owners are, an older couple who work the front counter and register, on their feet from opening to closing. I have to say, though, I've seen customers treat them rudely, and wonder if they're the same ones who complain on yelp for being dismissed, bc they weren't treated like the royalty they imagine themselves to be? idk. The food here is amazing! Delicious and perfect portion size. Our family favorite are their beef kimchee bowl, bulgogi, fried wings and pork ramen. It's not a big restaurant but they have a few tables for dine-in customers. They also have hand sanitizers at every table and their restroom is clean and well-maintained. Stopped in on Saturday for some take out from BB Bowl and ordered the BB Chicken Teriyaki and the Fried Mandu. The order was ready in ~15 minutes and the food was great! Chicken Teriyaki was a nice amount of food and the quality was good as well. This will for sure become a new quick pickup spot for us going foward. read more

I was pleasantly surprised when I Googled the place during my 2nd visit to test my assumption that it was a chain. Nope! Just the brainchild of an Alameda resident hoping to insert "bi bim bap" into the local lexicon. The Korean American owners are 100% intentional of their assembly-line approach to Korean food, carefully constructing their Chipotle-like enterprise so that the mainstream might begin to enjoy some of the cuisine's offerings besides the famous (and pricey) K BBQ. Personally, I'm always on the hunt for inexpensive, healthy lunches. So BB Bowl's $7-8 dollar "Rainbow Rice Bowls," customizable bi bim bap that do not skimp on the fresh veggies, are my new favorite thing. It also doesn't hurt that the employees here are really nice, it's super easy to park (location is a not very busy shopping center), and the inside of the restaurant is like the cutest/cleanest fast food joint I've ever stepped in. I don't dine on Korean cuisine very often. My husband and I decided to order a few things to go for our dinner the other night - beef bulgogi, bibimbap (mixed rice bowl) and kimbap (Korean rice roll). I can't say the food was superb; then I can't say it was terrible. I believe I am safe in saying that the food was A-OK. The kimbap is the "Korean style of sushi roll". The rice, strips of eggs, "ball park sausage" and vegetable are wrapped in nori. For $4.95, one gets eight pieces. I really don't know what "ball park sausage" is because I am thinking in terms of "ball park franks" that are eaten at baseball games. The meat looks like shredded beef. The bibimbap with chicken was flavorful without additional soy sauce. If you drizzle a tad more soy sauce into the dish, ai yah, it becomes too salty. Ambiance: BB Bowl is clean; I did not see any litter on the floor, no sticky tables, counter space where the utensils are stored is pretty much organized. They have free wi-fi available and the walls are adorned with nice pictures. The two employees serving us are friendly, and they acknowledge us immediately. The prices for their menu items are reasonable. I will probably return to try other items on the menu - BB Japchae, BB Mandu and BB Bulgogi. read more

There was a time when I would go here every Monday night because that's how good their bibimbap is. I always got the veggie tofu type and asked for it spicy, and it is incredible. But they have so much variety here too - my partner would get the bulgogi because of course one would get that if they are not vegetarian, but we have also tried the ramen and the chickens and often might be found getting some melona here. The person behind the counter sprinkled some nuts and a sauce of some sort across the top to finish it off. After a couple of bites (needed more of an umph) I tried the hot sauce on the table. Apparently, there was a change of ownership over the summer and so I got a chance to talk to the new owners and they're local Alamedans. Well, Bay Farm Alamedans, but close enough. Hahaha. Evelyn, the owner's daughter, is very proactive in her customer service and my wife and I actually had a really nice conversation with her. From some of the older reviews, some apparently found the last owner a little less than hospitable. Honestly, I never thought so, but from memory I can kind of see what people saw. Anyway, that certainly wasn't our experience today! Evelyn is a really personable and enthusiastic young lady. She mentioned that she'll be starting university soon so hopefully they'll get someone to match her level of hospitality when she's less available. My family and I have been coming to BB Bowl probably close to when they first originally opened and, to be honest, we order almost the same thing all the time, which is the BB Rainbow Rice Bowl and JapChae. I've never tried the ramen because, well, I've had so much ramen in Japan that it's hard for me to like most ramen anywhere in the USA. And I basically never order soup whenever I go out. With Poke, I even told this to the new owners of Sumiko, that it's just impossible to compete with Poka Koma and Poke Salad. Compared to the Bowl'd BBQ and Koja Kitchen, we simply just prefer BB Bowl for Korean on Alameda. I guarantee you this is before I met the owners. We went to Koja once and just never felt like going back. We went to Bowl'd BBQ the opening month, didn't think it was too great, and then tried it again when things calmed down and were still underwhelmed, which is a shame because I really wanted to like it. BB Bowl, we've been to almost a dozen times. BB Bowl is really the dark horse of Korean food on Alameda. Koja and Bowl'd BBQ get the buzz because they're expanding from successful Oakland spots, but BB Bowl and Jong Ga House are our consistent winners for local Korean restaurants. I do think it's important to understand that the Rice Bowl isn't presented as traditional Bimbimbap. When I first came here 4 years or so ago, I remember that was also my initial thought. But nonetheless, we come back time and time again. From my impression, the BB Bowl Rice Bowl is supposed to be a lighter and fresher version of the traditional Bimbimbap. From my experience, the traditional bimbimbap is a nice hearty and heavy dish that comes in a hot stone pot. So I can see why those looking for a traditional bimbimbap will leave a little disappointed. But for me, once you start viewing it for what it is, a variation on a classic dish, it's a great dish on its own. The flavors are on point, though I always add more of the red sauce and mayonnaise, because those sauces are fantastic. The portions are always large enough for us to have leftovers so there's good value. Now, they have Evelyn to help put a "younger" pulse on the restaurant. Anyway, I look forward to seeing how this business develops over time with the new ownes. read more

The poke bowl here looks so good in the pictures! And honestly, I love the toppings they include because there's kimchi, spinach, carrots and bean sprouts. A lot of Korean style banchan toppings compared to your traditional poke toppings like tamago or seaweed salad. For the poke bowl, there's only a little bit of fish provided. You can choose between tuna or salmon, spicy or non-spicy. The bowl appears huge but only because it's jam packed with julienned vegetables, AND there's a big heaping pile of rice on the bottom. It's quite misleading to be honest. For $13, I would say, definitely not worth it. read more

Their food never lacks flavor and they're very kind and sweet to their customers. The setting is also extremely welcoming and they appear to be extremely clean as well even having separate containers for touched and untouched pens. Just overall amazing. I've eaten at this place several times and it's just ok. It's good and nothing to make you say Wow. I decided to stop by after work and get some dinner. I saw they had ramen, pork ramen. So I ordered it. I was the only one in the restaurant. It took over 10 minutes to get my ramen. I've had ramen from other restaurants and it took less than 5 minutes. So when it arrived, I smelled the ramen and I could smell that instant noodle condiment. You know those little foil and plastic packets that you add to the instant ramen. And I tasted it and I definitely taste instant ramen. And when I saw the noodles, it was definitely instant noodles. I knew it right away. I've had many real ramen and the broth have a very rich and full flavor taste. This ramen broth has an artificial taste and more importantly the instant ramen taste. The egg didn't have that soft boiled egg with the runny yolk. It was an awful attempt of the typical soft boiled egg you get at a ramen restaurant. I called the owner and politely asked the owner if the noodles were instant noodles. And he said YES. My heart sank. I knew then and there I ordered a doctored instant ramen that cost with tax over $15. His explanation was this was Korean Ramen. That's BS. When you order ramen, we as diners expect using fresh ramen noodles. There's no doubt in my mind they used the instant ramen packets. There was no richness to the broth, the richness you get from making ramen stock that takes hours. This place used instant ramen condiments and then doctored it and passed this off as restaurant quality ramen. It's again as I stated, doctored instant ramen. Sad to say I will never go back. It won't surprise me if their Korean potstickers (Mandu) came from Costco or just frozen potstickers that came from a store. read more
