Saw this place on Instagram and I decided it was worth the drive from Rockville cause the food just looked SO good! We were not disappointed in terms of food, ambiance AND service! Everything was honestly amazing and it was nice to sit in a clean, cozy and fun restaurant that served HALAL food! The corn cheese was almost addicting, I couldn't stop myself from reaching for it. The rice cakes were perfectly chewy and the fries were crispy outside and soft inside! My only gripe would be that the super spicy and majority of the wing flavors don't come in boneless. Yes, I like my chicken nuggets okay? I wanted to try their spiciest flavor and didn't feel like getting my hands dirty but I couldn't so I settled for the mala wings and they left me wanting more spice. My husband and I split a small boneless galbi and a small boneless Gangnam style. The fried chicken had that light crisp we like in Korean fried chicken, lots of white meat without too much breading. I included photos of cross-sections of three different pieces so you can get an idea of the breading ratio. None of the meat was gamey. The different sauces were a welcome change from our usual Bonchon order. I'm the annoying person who usually picks off and leaves half the breading of fried things, but I was actually eating the scraps of fried bits that had fallen off some of the chicken. I discovered this spot by accident. I was in the area and had to use the bathroom. It looked like the only spot that was open around that time (9:50 p.m.) that appeared to have a public restroom. As I walked past the place, I started smelling the fragrance of fried chicken. The restaurant looked very clean and quaint. I proceeded to use the restroom and be on my way. Fast forward two days later, 2/17/2024, my friend and I decided to try it out. As soon as we entered the restaurant, we made our way to the counter and we're seated pretty quickly. We decided on the 24 piece boneless wings with the Hot & Spicy sauce as our entree and fries and the dumplings as our appetizer. I was pleased with dumplings. They were beef and seemed like they were a combination of steamed and fried. They were delicious and the fries were good also. Then we had our chicken with a side of Sriracha Mayo. The combination of both was awesome, and this is coming from someone with a moderate spicy level. I came in right after they opened and had wings with the soy garlic sauce and it was very delicious. this week I ordered boneless with soy garlic sauce and a chicken sandwich. The chicken sandwich is a bargain and it's really delicious. The second time having the soy garlic sauce was pretty bad. there was far too much garlic to the point where I threw half of it out. I grew up on a Mediterranean diet so I'm not afraid of garlic. I don't know what happened but it was bad. I also, maybe my ignorance, didn't realize that the boneless here means white meat. I was really surprised to find breast meat I was expecting boneless wings. so that was disappointing too. Not being able to rate this establishment four or five stars is disappointing. Out of the multiple times we have visited this restaurant, there was only one instance of the food not being a 10 out of 10. The ambience lends itself to a girls night out, a quick family dinner, or a business meeting with a little libations on the side. However, the rationale for the three-star rating is the lack of consistency in the service you may receive. On our most recent visit, our waiter spent more time conversing with another waiter and what look to be a friend that was visiting the establishment and sitting at the bar. Multiple times we attempted to get the waiter's attention for items that we wanted/needed. Basic 101 waitstaff etiquette was not present. He never came to see if we wanted/needed refills on our beverages. We could not get his attention because he was too busy taking shots with his colleague and friend at the bar. This is the second time we have experienced this particular waiter. He may be a family member or part owner. But, either way, he is not good for business. He showed signs of being annoyed with the questions we had about the menu items, not engaged when we placed our order (we had to restate/explain what we wanted a few times), and overall disengaged and not committed to making sure we had a good dining experience. Prior to this experience, I would often recommend that friends and colleagues visit this establishment. There is no question that the menu offerings are very tasty. However, going forward I will continue to make a recommendation with the warning that the service received may be subpar! I hope someone from this establishment reads this and takes it seriously! As for me, I'm not sure I will return. Like most who work hard to earn a living, we want our dollars to be valued and appreciated. For the level of service that we received, we would have done better going to Trader Joe's and eating at home. Not so happy eating! read more

Korean fried chicken place conveniently located right across the Virginia Square metro! We ordered takeout from one of the kiosks inside the restaurant, it took a little long for the order to come out (around 40ish minutes). We got the soy garlic and hot spicy wings, the tteokbokki and a side of pickled radish. Our favorite was the tteokbokki! It was pretty spicy and the rice cakes had a good bite to it, ordering it with mozzarella is a must! Out of the wings, we enjoyed the soy garlic one the most as it had a good crunchy texture, similar to Bonchon. We didn't enjoy the hot spicy ones as much as we thought it had a little too much breading and the wings were not evenly coated in the sauce (see picture). The interior of the place looked cool and they have a pretty extensive bar set up inside (with soju)! It also looked like they had a popcorn machine set up in which they'll serve you a bowl when you're sitting at the bar. All in all, I think the wings at Bonchon are better (better crunch!) but they do have a lot more flavor options here which I will come back to try. Corn cheese: A side dish who can do NO wrong, always a fun cheese pull. Bulgogi poutine: These are definitely more like loaded fries, but absolutely so good! The fries were perfectly crispy. The place was mostly empty. The children did take a while to come out considering we were the only ones in the place but it was worth the wait. The chicken was really fresh. The batter was light but really crispy. They put a good amount of sauce on the chicken. Both the sauces we got were good but I definitely preferred the secret sauce. The regular fries and sweet potato fries were also both really good. They have a lot of seating, a full bar and karaoke on Thursdays nights. I highly recommend a visit. The service was extremely kind and warm. The food took a little bit longer than I expected to come out, but I'll chalk it up to them being a new establishment. My group went for lunch and ordered two flavors of wings, the original and the Gangnam style. Both were incredible! I've been here several times and the chicken is very good. The service tonight was not. The waiter (also the manager) told me they had karaoke when she took my order - I said great and ordered a glass of wine and chicken. After about ten minutes and no glass of wine which was odd because it's a small place and they were not busy, I tried to get her attention. I was at a table and not at the bar. After about 20 minutes, I again tried to get her attention. She was behind the bar slamming not one, but two shots, back to back, with a customer. Given that, I thought, well if she forgot the wine order she probably forgot the entire order, so when I finally got her attention, I motioned to her to cancel the order and that I was leaving and I left. She came out of the restaurant yelling at me that the food takes at least 20 minutes (it usually takes 10 at most). I asked her why she didn't bring the drink I had ordered and she said something like "oh yeah, you ordered something" but she couldn't remember what I had ordered. Bottom line - I think she was quite drunk which explains a lot. I guess having a drunk bartender/waiter/manager is up to the establishment (no comment), but in this case, it affected service to the point that I will not be returning. read more

I ordered the half whole fried chicken (8 pieces) and the Rose Ddeok Bokki. The chicken arrived still warm, crispy and delicious and the Ddeok Bokki was creamy and flavorful! 3.5 / 5 stars We recently tried this newly opened Korean fried chicken place. Because of the location, and location only, I will try bb.q again. This isn't Korean fried chicken, it's closer to BWW-style because it's a lot of breading with sauce added on after the fact. Think: chicken tenders you made at home in the oven with a ton of sauce poured on top. The chicken isn't glazed in the sauce but rather smothered. The ratio of breading to chicken was a bit off, with there being a few bites of just breading. The fries were too salty and pasty in the middle as if they were from a freezer bag. The "secret sauce" is cloyingly sweet and reminiscent of sweet and sour chicken from Chinese takeout. BUT, the mala sauce was delicious. Hopefully sticking to bone-in options and choosing other sauces in the future will yield better results. They don't answer their phone, but they do have contactless ordering in person via kiosks once you enter. The inside is a bit too clubby so I'll stick to take out. read more

Had the fried chicken tenders with the signature sauce and plain chicken as well as the tteokbokki, kimchi quesadilla, and fries. I was underwhelmed by the flavors on everything, though the breading and texture of the chicken was spot on. The sauce was too sweet, more like a dessert than a dinner item. The tteokbokki had too much cheese and the rice cakes were super chewy. I know they are supposed to be fluffy, but I should be able to bite through them. Maybe I am just less of a rice cakes fan than I think I am. Also, the cheese sauce had very little seasoning other than sugar. The kimchi quesadilla was fine, but nothing I would brag to anyone about. The fries were not good. The only reason this is a 2 star instead of 1 is that the chicken was cooked extremely well and someone who likes a sweet sauce might like this more than me, but I would not recommend the other menu items and I would rather drive to bonchon than order from here. read more
