### 2024 review 28/100 ### After the most horrible (post election) week, it's been challenging to look for the little things that bring me joy... Thanks Jason & team for this little hidden gem of an oasis inside the Pasadena Hotel & Pool -- where it feels soooooo good to BBAD and the perfect escape on a Sunday afternoon! After we got our order of elevated burritos & choice of caffeine, we made our way to the lush backyard where we thoroughly enjoyed a couple hours filling our bellies with delicious generously stuffed burritos while listening to birds chirping and the babble of the fountain. I discovered BBAD when their crispy fried pavé potatoes caught my eye on IG a couple weeks ago and couldn't wait to visit. WOW those crispy pavé potato cubes are like crack! So fun to get to chat with the owner Jason Hobbs and was thrilled to even get to sample the crispy pavé potato. Since it was our first visit, we decided to try 3 burritos: 1) Chile Verde with braised pork 2) Mushroom chorizo 3) Basic Bae-con Both me and Hubs top pick was the Chile Verde with braised pork!! It was hard to share that burrito... LOL. Read about on Eater. Have eaten the bb at Lucky Boy on Walnut for decades . Finally was able to try BBAD. Had the bacon burrito. Really good. Good size. Made to order. Hot. The special potato's on it didn't live up to the hype. They basically are fried potatoes. Ok. End of the day it's a $19 burrito that's basically a take out joint. Would I eat it again? Sure. Breakfast burritos abound especially in Pasadena so decided to try out BBAD as it was fairly close so the burritos would be fairly fresh. The bacon burrito is pretty good, the egg is nicely cooked and the bacon crunchy. The potato pave chunks inside were the standout, flavorful with a slight crunch. The pork chile verde was also very good. The mushroom chorizo was okay, didn't hit like other vegetarian chorizo but the overall burrito was still good. A little of the pricier side but to be expected considering the quality ingredients and the location. Will definitely order again. read more

I got the Chile Verde breakfast burrito. Overall it was kind of bland. The cashier recommended this one to me as their favorite so I had higher expectations. Pork tastes unseasoned and has a slight bitter after taste. Potatos are too crispy almost burnt so that adds to the bitterness. Not sure if I got the bottom scoop of potatoes but there were a few cubes but mostly small bits so it felt like I had crumbled potato chips inside which could've been really good if they were seasoned well. Positives: the scrambled eggs are fluffy and both salsas are really good. I just wish there was something to bring it all together without always needing to add salsa to get some flavor. Whoah. This breakfast burrito is next level. I brought my friend who is a successful chef with formal training and a lifetime in restaurants of all kinds. We both agreed it was the best breakfast burrito we've ever had. The bacon and potatoes are still crispy. The balance of ingredients is perfect. It's obvious that a lot of thought, time and effort goes into the sauces. Even the scrambled eggs were rich and velvety. My friend said they're probably using butter and extra yolks to make it richer and give it the fluffy, creamy texture. I read some of the reviews here, and I kinda get it. If you're just looking for a basic breakfast burrito, you might overlook the quality of the thick-cut bacon or handmade tortillas and focus on the higher price tag. You can access the restaurant via the street or through the hotel! Food -- delicious -- i got the pork burrito which was properly seasoned -- although I think it was fried a bit too much -- no meat and all crunch. The burrito consists of eggs (choice in how you want it cooked), the pork, and the sauce. The total for this burrito and tip came out to be about $20. Although the burrito was good. I felt like it was definitely more on the expensive side -- especially since there was no salsa or potatoes or pico de gallo or any other ingredient given. There were sauce packets offered -- ketchup and tabasco sauce, if there was salsa that would def been the cherry on top. Service -- people were friendly, and its a walk-up to the counter to order/pay type of place so definitely was quick to be seen. We came at a busy time so we waited about 20 minutes to get our burritos. Definitely not a grab and go. Ambiance -- There are no seating inside, but there is a bit in the street-facing side. There is also a courtyard in the hotel that you can eat at. Keep in mind there is no water -- so definitely bring your own water or buy the water bottles they offer. I think the hotel may offer water, but I wasn't sure where to find that. Tried all four burritos and must say these are some of the best breakfast burritos in town. Their mushroom and chorizo one was definitely my favorite. It was smoky from the charred mushroom and the fried potato pieces were really good! Also had their horchata which was good! Overall everything took about 10 minutes to come out so pretty quick but it is a smaller sized restaurant so if it was busier I can imagine it being crowded! The parking that I found was street parking. Not sure if there's additional parking but found street parking pretty easily right out front. read more

Hands down the best breakfast burrito I've ever had - maybe burrito in general. Their menu is limited, but I ended up going basic and got the Basic Bae-con because I wanted something safe for my first visit. Although it was a basic burrito, everything about it was just *chef's kiss. The eggs were fluffy, the bacon was crispy, the potatoes was super flavorful and the sauce just nicely tied everything together. The sauce was a little bit scarce throughout the burrito, but if it was smothered in that sauce, omg that would have been perfect. I'm usually not a big fan of horcahtas either, but theirs was pretty good too. I can't really explain it since I don't usually drink it, but the cinnamon wasn't overpowering the drink itself and had a nice balance of flavor. The only thing that would stop me from coming often is the price as the price for most is $17. Definitely would recommend trying this place at least once! read more

This place is a small, bustling business that can be entered either through the Pasadena Hotel & Pool or their entrance on Colorado Blvd. Though seating and street parking was limited, customers were observed enjoying their meals in the courtyard or lobby of the hotel, and it looks like they also validate parking! Ordered the Vegetarian Mushroom Chorizo Burrito and the Chili Verde with Pork Burrito. Took about 10-15 minutes to receive my order, which I find fairly quick considering there were quite a few customers. I came for the Pork burrito, which was good itself, but that Chorizo burrito is the true sleeper item. It was cheesey, flavorful, though maybe just a tad too much aioli(?) I've tried a few breakfast burritos in OC and LA County. I'm not certain if Bbad is one of the best, but I am definitely glad to have tried it. read more

Got here around 10am on a Saturday and got the pork belly breakfast burrito to go. You can choose either scrambled eggs or over easy eggs. The burrito is pretty big and stuffed with goodies! There's definitely a good proportion of pork in there and the potatoes are yummy as well! Everything was great except it is a little bit too salty but that's just personal preference! Pro tip: In case it's hard to find street parking, they also validate for parking (2 hours) at the Pasadena Hotel - entrance on Mentor Ave. Staff were super friendly and they also have a small selection of snacks at the back. Talk about delish! Yes yes and yes I would order this pork rib burrito again. Now there is a long line on Saturday morning so be prepared parking at the green curb won't work. Every customer is leaving happy however. Now the chile verde braised pork burrito....the best breakfast burrito I've EVER had. Hands down the best breakfast burrito I have ever had had. Since I eat a kosher diet, I only had two options: potatoes and eggs, or the mushroom chorizo. I tried the mushroom chorizo and it was delicious. The potatoes were addictive, eggs fluffy and delicious and the mushroom full of flavor. Next time I'll order the sauce on the side so I can control the quality to my liking. Coffee was ok! Given that there was only one person managing all orders and making the coffee, they get a pass, but certainly not the quality I hoped for based on other pictures. Will be back for sure. read more

Honestly mid. The breakfast burritos are super overpriced ($17 each) and not even that big. Both the bacon and the pork one were the same price, I understand maybe charging that much for the pork one, but the bacon one? The pork one was just egg and pork. The potato is really good and as labor intensive it is, still should not make it so expensive. The salsas were mid, and when I asked if they could cut my burrito in half (which everyone does it's also not that hard) they were like "uhhh okay but it's going to take me a minute". Giant breakfast burritos! I ordered the bacon burrito. The bacon is super crispy and so are the potato's that come inside. The flour tortilla has the perfect amount of chew and they eggs are cooked well. I was only able to eat half, so the other half will serve as my lunch. I ordered online and it was a very quick and easy pickup. My only complaint is they give you one tiny container of salsa. If you want more it's at an extra charge. After seeing a post on IG about BBAD, and being a fan of breakfast burritos, I had to try it, so I got a couple of friends together and drove to Pasadena. We ordered bacon burritos and chile verde burritos. Both were very tasty, but VERY greasy. I've never had such greasy burritos. The restaurant is a hole-in-wall next to the Pasadena Hotel. There are a handful of counter stools or you can eat in the hotel lobby. The staff was very friendly. Parking is on-street or BBAD will validate if you park in the hotel lot. read more

A very small breakfast burrito joint, you could say theyre boutique lol thats tucked inside the unassuming on the outside but pretty inside Pasadena Hotel on Colorado blvd. I'll be straight up, the burritos here are not cheap on the expensive side for sure, but they you're paying for quality ingredients and cooking techniques. But on the whole its on par with like wake and late (if you add proteins like steak). I got the chile verde and it was super tasty, the meat was juicy and tender and it was very flavorful. The burrito is a bit on the smaller side, it ain't no lucky boy monster. I enjoyed it. They also had like coffee and horchata. I am coming back to try some more of their menu. read more

Wow! This place is really tasty. If you want a GOOD and FLAVORFUL breakfast burrito, i suggest trying this spot! I ordered the "basic bacon," and they were not stingy with the bacon. The potato's weren't cut super big and unseasoned, they were cut nicely and it wasn't biting into bland potato... the sauces were good. I tried the salsa verde which was probably my favorite and the aioli i tried as well. I also tried the horchata which was yummy. I think they use coconut milk which was different and again, yummy. Overall, way too expensive ($17) for poor service. The burritos looked good (especially the mushroom chorizo), and I wanted the opportunity to hang out in the Pasadena Hotel. You order from a kiosk, so everything is clearly written on a receipt and easy for them to double-check before notifying you that your order is ready. They gave my husband his latte to him iced instead of hot (it was $7.50), then we had to feel like garbage because they tossed it. But they screwed up an expensive drink order on a clearly printed ticket? And then I had to keep walking back for other items missing from our order - We ordered sides of hot sauce and chipotle aioli, which cost extra, and they came in the tiniest cups. The gents behind the counter are communicative about the wait time and genuinely interested in you having a good experience -- example, my flat white landed well ahead of my burrito apparently and without me asking, the gentleman working there made me a fresh one so it was hot. 'It's probably like melted ice cream, he said,' -- pretty awesome level of care. The burrito was great. Not light but less heavy than most, and nuanced and delicious. They gave me extra salsa and aioli, which came in handy. And chilling in the hotel lobby was definitely a cool experience. All of the ingredients were great in terms of quality and quantity and, the chili verde salsa was terrific. Service was great, and although BBAD doesn't have tables, it's attached to the historic Pasadena Hotel, and you are welcome to eat in their beautiful lobby or their terrific courtyard. read more

4 stars (really more like 3.5) Through the power of TikTok, I came across this spot being hyped as the best breakfast burrito in LA, so of course, I had to give it a try. I ordered the first option on the menu -- the chile verde pork belly breakfast burrito -- which came out to $17. Honestly, it was just okay. The pork flavor was pretty mild, and I expected more of that tangy salsa verde kick. The meat could've used a bit more moisture too. It came with two sauces (one from the pork and a "house sauce"), but both were on the bland side -- very mild and not particularly flavorful. On the positive side, the eggs were nicely scrambled, and the potatoes were the highlight. They make and fry their own layered potatoes, which was a really nice touch and showed some effort. Still, that alone didn't quite save the burrito as a whole. It definitely could've used some sour cream and cheese for balance.
