I work right behind this Beach hut and so we often TRY and order from this business. However, every time we try and online order, they never accept it. I go to pick it up for an office of people waiting for food and end up being gone for 30 minutes b/c they have to make the order. On top of that instead of doing this quickly as they messed up by not checking their online orders, they stand there and talk to everyone else and take their sweet time making the sandwiches. I called to make sure they received the order and now their phone line is busy. Has been for the last 30 minutes. The food is good but the service and staff SUCK!!!! read more

Very good food but numerous times going in the service is very slow. Took 30 minutes to make 2 sandwiches for me. They took the order of the person behind me, made their food and served them before me who came in first. There were 2 workers but only one was making sandwiches while the other cleaned and moved chairs. Very bad customer service! Then not even an apology for the slowness. Beach hut deli is usually pretty good. Not a fan of the nachos, very few and plain ingredients, plus chips were soggy. I give the place a 4 star though because the pig kahuna it's wonderful. The pulled pork has great flavor and the dole pineapple is always great. read more

Came in for the first time last week, I was bit nervous to try because I heard from a friend they put cream cheese on the sandwiches. I order the "surfin bird" and it was extremely good. Everything was made right in front of you so you can see the fresh ingredients. The staff was friendly it did take a long to make but it was well worth it. I am a big fan of Beach Hut Deli. I've been to many of the locations from Midtown to the one in Tahoe. That being said, the customer service at the Gold River location has been above and beyond what I would expect from a sandwich shop. My girlfriend and I were hungry at the end of a long day and had been talking about how good Beach Hut sounded. As we walked up we noticed the chairs were alredy stacked and that they had just closed about 5 minutes ago. I think the manager saw the disappointment on our faces and told us to come on in. She told us they had a lot of clean up to do anyway and it was no big deal to let us order some food. A lot of other places try and get away with closing 10 minutes early just to get out of there asap. We really appreciated this and will come back often. read more

Disgusting. I am a very reasonable person, not picky but I was thoroughly disgusted today. I had the soup with sandwich combo. The chicken tortilla soup was opaque and looked so gross, I couldn't even bring myself to try it. So I exchanged it for chips. My friend ordered the fries and they looked like they were saturated in oil, as if they had been run through the fryer more than once. Our sandwiches were not even good, the turkey was brownish and tasted old. The restaurant looks dirty, stuff is out of stock, not working. The place is run down and no one is cleaning it. I definitly did not want to check out the bathroom. I would've asked for my money back but instead decided to write a review and never return again. I am pretty scarred and I fear that I will forever relate this experience to all other Beach Hut Deli's and get disgusted at the thought of ever going back again. read more

My wife and I stopped at Beach Hut Deli in Gold River Ca today for a sandwich. While waiting to order we witnessed a guy behind the counter making a sandwich. He was scraping cream cheese off a wrapper then using his bare hands to mash it together and form it into a long flat ribbon, that he then put on the sandwich. A couple of times during this he stopped to do something else, while he wiped his hands on an obviously dirty apron. Watching this turned my stomach. I pointed to him and told the cashier to cancel our order and that we were leaving. I did not know Beach Hut or perhaps just this location had such lax sanitary standards. There is no way I want to risk having food poisoning or even eating something prepared like this. Anyone who would so casually do this may not even wash his hands after using the toilet. I don't think I will be going back. I also wonder whether the county health department would approve of this. I will call to find out. Uck! read more

Ordered 4 sandwiches and 2 salads online for pick up at 10:30. Arrived to pick up and they hadn't seen the order that was placed the evening before. 45 min later our order was ready. No way should that few sandwiches and 3 people behind the counter take that long. Maybe work on time management and check your incoming orders when you open in the morning. read more

If you want a great Reuben sandwich this is the place to go! The meat is thick and they give you generous portions. They make they're own dressing and the deli style pickles are delish! As for service, I couldn't have happened upon the nicest young ladies. I had a long day and beach hut was my last stop before going home. I had every thing I needed for a nice rainy Friday evening but I forgot the limes for my beers. This place changed management in July and it was the worst thing they could do. I always enjoyed the previous atmosphere before the change but not it's become even more corporate feeling. I got my usual surfin bird sandwich and it was pretty good but noticed they use less ingredients than before but with the still high prices being charged. This location is across the street from the dental office I work at and my husband loves Beach Hut so we went for lunch (Martin Luther King's day). I've been to this location about five times over the last year and a half and will NEVER go back. We walk up to the counter and the young woman there making sandwiches says she'll be right with us. This young woman is there every time I have eaten at this location. She is always pleasant and helpful. It appears she has a disability with her legs and completely depends on a crutch to stand, lean and to walk . When we walked up she was grabbing bread out of a bag and I noticed she was not wearing any gloves. She proceeded over to the register to take our order. Halfway through she stopped to answer the phone. She then took my husband's cash, gave us our cups and said it would be a few minutes. She then went back to making sandwiches. While I commend her ability , the problem is after handing the phone, cash and the register and her crutch, this young woman never once washed her hands. I watched her handle bread, cheese, microwave all with unwashed, bare hands. The other young guy making sandwiches had on gloves and I kept hoping he would be making ours but no. I ate about four bites and threw the rest away and left. Her disgusting, unsafe food handling leaves me thinking of all the cross contamination behind this counter. Would be better if she stayed in one place behind the counter and wore gloves and washed her hands! It's annoying that you feel like you have to ask for safe handling in an establishment that serves food the customer is paying for. read more

I am a customer service professional and I would like to offer my services to train your team. The cashier sticking his tongue out didn't help. Neither did having him say nothing to me after I handed him my card, for the rest of the transaction until I walked out. I'll go ahead and grab my food myself. I'll assume our transaction is done because you are no longer looking at me. The food is great, but in service, the first and last impression are very important. Your staff failed you in that. The pulled pork sandwich was good. The pastrami was inedible: too many conflicting flavors and textures. When the employee who took our order was advised that the Pastrami sandwich was not good, instead of offering to credit us for the uneaten sandwich, she simply said it was her "favorite" and wrapped it to go.... She did not provide us with a receipt - bad for business diners. People who came in after us were served before us. Making the stop here on my drive between Tahoe and Santa Cruz, I was pleasantly surprised to see that Gold River now has a Beach Hut Deli. There was first a Quizno's and now a Subway at the other end of Gold River and I'm not fond of either of those places. Years ago there was a Togo's in this complex, and even though I worked there as a teenager, I'll admit that Beach Hut is an upgrade from this too. What made this a particularly pleasant experience was the girl who served us. I didn't catch her name but she was blonde, cute, and had a beautiful tattoo sleeve. Anyhow, she was everything you'd want in customer service: friendly, personable, helpful, and polite. I was also able to take a peek over the counter (a habit of mine having worked in food service) and it looked nice and clean, which is just how I like it. read more

I have lunch here about once a week. Their sandwiches are pretty good, generous in size, and about average price-wise--nothing outlandish. I'm still working my way through the menu, but so far my favorite is one of the specialty sandwiches called "The Woody," a roast beef-cheddar cheese-BBQ sauce-bacon-cream cheese-onion-Tabasco concoction, though I had them hold the hot sauce. About half of the specialties have cream cheese as one of the ingredients--not one of my favorite sandwich fillings--but it works when combined with the other ingredients. This place also has Wi-Fi, which is a big plus for me. I like to do my work here because there is plenty of room to spread things out on the faux-surfboard tables, unlike the Starbucks next door to it with its tiny tables. The piped in music from "Beach Hut Radio" is mostly reggae which is, perhaps surprisingly(?), conducive to concentration and makes me feel like I'm back in Santa Cruz. The staff is friendly and efficient; I've never had an order screwed up. There's usually a goodly crowd here during the typical lunch hour and it can be noisy, but around 1:30 p.m. it settles down. read more
