This specific Sandwich Spot location was one of my original favorite sandwich shops of all time. My friend Ashley and I used to always come here and split a Cougar on Dutch Crunch, sub pastrami for turkey. Feeling nostalgic, I recently decided to have lunch here. I asked for a Cougar with pastrami instead of turkey. "You want a number 26?" (Looks at menu) "Yes, with pastrami instead of turkey." "Number 26, right?" When I had walked in, I saw two girls cleaning. One of them had stopped to take my order. After taking my order, she continued to clean for exactly ten minutes before stopping, washing her hands, and beginning to prepare my sandwich. (I'm positive that it was exactly ten minutes before she even *started* to make my sandwich, because I get a text message the minute my card is charged, so it's easy to just look at the text, and see how much time has elapsed.) As she finished making my sandwich, another guest came in. After she placed her order, the second girl washed her hands, and both girls made her sandwich together. While I had waited nearly fifteen minutes for my sandwich, this girl waited for less than two. It was so odd. As I ate my sandwich, both girls behind the counter stared at me so hard that I seriously wondered if they had done something funky to my sandwich. So, all of that was very strange. But the sandwich was good. None of the ingredients were missing. The veggies were all in ridiculously tiny quantities in comparison to the super smearing of sauce, but, it was all there, and it tasted good. When it comes to sandwiches, in terms of the meat, you get what you pay for. Sandwich Spot uses cheaper meat than some fancier delis do, but they also use a larger quantity of it. So, if you would rather have a large amount of okay pastrami versus a medium amount of great pastrami, then, Sandwich Spot is the spot for you. If you're really into premium lunch meat, though, this isn't it. The pastrami tasted like it could have come from the fridge section at Winco or Walmart. Overall, for a cheaper/lower-end sandwich place, Sandwich Spot is still one of my favorites. I love their menu, and haven't found a sandwich quite like the Cougar anywhere else. read more

I hadn't been here in nearly 10 years and was looking forward to a nostalgic lunch, but unfortunately, this visit was a major letdown. I ordered the Barracuda, and my wife got the General Lee. Both sandwiches were served on Dutch crunch rolls that were so hard, they were nearly inedible -- my wife couldn't even finish hers because the bread hurt her mouth. Mine left the roof of my mouth sore, but I pushed through since it wasn't exactly a cheap meal. The fillings didn't help either -- the meat tasted like it had been sitting for a while especially the roast beef, and the vegetables were wilted and lifeless. The macaroni salad tasted identical to the store-bought Reser's brand, with that unmistakable aftertaste, which was disappointing. Overall, nothing felt fresh. Everything had the vibe of being prepped a day or two ago and just left to sit. I truly wish we had just gone to the grocery store instead. Sadly, this place didn't live up to the memories, and I won't be returning. Lesson learned. read more

First time coming here with my wife for lunch. The sandwiches we ordered tasted good. I felt the service was very disorganized. My wifenordednher sandwich without mayonnaise and I ordered a "goat" . BLT with avocado. I specified no onions. When we got our sandwiches, mine had no mayo at all. I went.to the counter to ask for a side of mayo and was initially given pushback as they said I did not want mayo. She acted like she was not going to provide it. What kind of crap is that? When she noticed I was a bit annoyed, she provided it. The music they have piped in is too loud making it hard to hear and place orders and to have a conversation. We paid over 38 dollars for 2 sandwiches, 2 small bags of chips and 2 small drinks. Sorry....too much money for what we received. I will likely not return to this location. read more

Tried ordering on line, would not recognize gift card, tried to call five times, language barrier resulted in being hung up on twice, twice there was no answer and voicemail mailbox was full, when they finally answered she did not understand my dilemma with online order. Placed my order over the phone went to pick up two sandwiches presented the $40 gift card with their address on it and they would not honor it. I walked out and went to Jersey Mikes off Zinfandel where my big kahuna was ready and waiting for me. Apparently a recent owner change resulted in this debacle. This is my favorite place to get a sandwich. They have the best quality sandwich. I usually get the blt which is amazing. But I recently got the pastrami sandwich which was soooo good. The bread is good the ingredients are always fresh. The only thing negative thing I would say is they are really expensive. Let's begin by saying that we often eat at The Sandwich Spot restaurants near home which would be the Land Park and Midtown Sacramento locations. We love the casual vibe and variety of choices on the menu. Their fresh baked breads are a stand out. When we were out recently we found another Sandwich Spot in Rancho Cordova. We like that each restaurant is decorated uniquely. This one had a theme of classic cars. We ordered a #33 & #10. Sandwiches were good but came so far apart that we ended up sharing each one. The girl taking orders at the register was very sweet and helpful. Overall the experience was just ok. There were two things that I did not enjoy. The first was that they were playing the radio and had two TV's with the volume on. A bit overstimulating. Second was the bathroom key attached to a food basket. This is common at gas stations etc but I find it repulsive that I have to touch something that numerous people have brought into and out of the bathroom after using it. I have zero clue how sanitary the previous users of the bathroom key were. This is not something I should have to consider when dining. read more

Great sandwiches and never a crowd. Hidden in a little strip mall next to Zinfandel. The BLT was especially fresh.

Yummy Food: based on the meat ball sandwich with Dutch crunch roll. Bread was delicious and not too hard. Sometimes this bread will scrape the top of my mouth. The meat balls had good flavor and the provolone (4 pieces) cheese and sauce were delicious. What elevated this sandwich is putting it in the oven. It's best to eat it fresh. If you need to reheat it use an air fryer! Service: called ahead and it was ready within 15 minutes, which is how long it took for us to drive there. Other: the choice of bread was limited to only 3 options. Usually sandwich shops have a variety so maybe they were out at the time. Plenty of parking and is located by family fitness. They have a huge assortment of sandwiches over 40 types of hand crafted sandwiches and give you the option of customizing your sandwich as well. All the sandwiches have numbers and are named after vintage car names. I opted for the teriyaki chicken sandwich also called "The Nova." I entered the shop at 3:45 and the employee working , a female with a strong accent presended to tell me the bread takes 6-7 minutes to bake and then she said can you tell me which type do you want. I said I just walked in and had not even looked at the menu. I was so surprised she was rushing me because they closed at 4 I said forget it and told her how rude she was and left. When we knew we heading this way for a few days to play in a Tournament I started looking for some good sandwich places since that's our go to when on the road. This was one of the first places I found that we were excited to try. The fresh bread and different sauce options were one of the things that had my attention at first, then the fresh meats and veggies just made it an even better choice than I expected. The sandwiches were large and delicious. For a Sunday afternoon to only have 2 people working was the only down fall they were working hard but still we waited almost 25 mins for our sandwiches with no one in front of us because they were making the phone orders before taking care of the customers standing in the shop. First time at any Sandwich Spot location and I thought it was a hit! The selection of sandwiches is pretty vast with some creative names. These sandwiches are named after cars. Of course, being that, you really have to look at the ingredient list to know what you're actually ordering. Thankfully, the large menu behind the counter is very easy to read. The sandwiches are a nice size and filled me up. I got mine in a combo with a bag of chips and a drink, and I was totally satisfied after the meal. The entire combo ran me about twelve dollars, and a sandwich alone is about nine or ten. So, the Sandwich Spot can be considered on the pricier side in comparison to sandwich chain restaurants, but I think the price is worth it as the sandwiches tasted nice and fresh. The two servers behind the counter were friendly and prepared my sandwich relatively quickly. The decor or the restaurant could use a little sprucing up, but the one thing that really stands out is the classic car affixed to one of the walls. That is a really cool look. I think the rest of the dining area needs that wow factor that the car brings. Overall I'd definitely recommend the Sandwich Spot. I've been wanting to come here and was glad to try it out today. First time visit - and it was great! An overwhelming abundance of sandwich options, seriously..over 40, but I was happy to hear they offer lettuce wrap. And not with nasty iceberg like most shops..but with delicious and light butter lettuce. I tried the #2 - Turkey/bacon/cheddar and avocado. It was great, especially finally lettuce wrapped, but for $9.50 you would think it came with a little more meat. I'd recommend you add double meat for $4 to be satisfied. They are not able to answer and questions about their sandwiches. They seemed so confused when I asked basic questions, and both employees just stared back at me blankly. It was so uncomfortable and confusing that I didn't get a sandwich, but the rest of my family did. They also had a difficult time ordering and communicating. The whole place smelled like Pine Sol, couldn't taste or smell anything except cleaner. I appreciate them trying to be clean but it was too overpowering. My sister ordered a small $9 salad. It came half full and was just a bunch of pickles. Initially all they put on it was 15-20 pickles on the bottom, some onions, olives and no lettuce. Wish we would have taken a picture, it was almost comical. My brother had to ask for lettuce and again they seemed so confused like they didn't understand what a salad was and couldn't understand anything when he tried to explain. The other sandwich was just ok but not worth $15. It was kind of dry and just no flavor. My brother enjoyed his sandwich. All orders came out separately and took awhile, so brother had eaten most of his sandwich by the time the "salad" and other sandwich came out. Someone else said the bags of chips were really small. My sister asked if they had iced tea, the employees said no. But then later we saw they had unsweetened tea and raspberry tea at the machine. They just don't seem to hardly comprehend anything at all and seem oblivious to the customer. I used to come here in 2016-2017, this is first time back since and I won't be back ever again. The menu on the website, on yelp, and in the store are all different so be aware of that. I am sad to say I am not sure what all the hype is. I ordered the #2. My sandwich was average. The Dutch crunch bread was soft on the inside but a little too hard on the outside. The sandwich tasted basic with all the basic toppings and flavors, there was no special type of flavor bursting in the sandwich. I could barely tell there was bacon or avocado in my sandwich the bacon was very thin and just tasted like low quality fast food bacon. Where is the avocado?? I guess it was somewhere in there. I don't think it was absolutely horrible but I don't think it was all that great either. I am from out of town so don't think I'll be trying this place again. It was chicken, bacon, avocado, aioli...added Secret Sauce and, since you can choose your bread from sourdough, white, wheat, and Dutch Crunch, I chose the latter. I opted out of lettuce, tomato, etc, but I think some tomato next time would make a tasty sandwich. So this is my 2nd time coming to this store. Its kinda sandwiched (LOL) between Starbucks and a cell phone store. The store has a nostalgic feel to it with a big car front end coming out of the wall. I often saw this place while visiting the kava bar next door but didn't decide to go in until I read a review from fellow yelper Jennifer S. talking about the infamous Cougar sandwich with pastrami instead of turkey. Her review made me drool so I decided to stop in today and give it a go. The modified cougar (which is not on the official menu, but I located it on a whiteboard) is pastrami, swiss, cream cheese, avocado, pesto, + veggies. I got it on the dutch crunch like she recommended. The cougar is the most expensive sandwich that I saw available ($8.49 plus tax) and according to the cashier, the most frequently ordered. I would say that the service was so so. The girl who made my sandwich didn't seem too stoked to be at work and the girl who rang me up for my food was very energetic. Overall I suppose they evened each other out. When I dive bombed in to my sandwich I discovered that there were only three measly slices of avocado on the whole sandwich and barely any cream cheese on one half. :( The bread was fresh and crunchy though and helped make up for it . The sandwich was a good size and could definitely be split by two people. I would say that I'd definitely give this place another star had they not skimped on the two ingredients that drew me to the sandwich in the first place. I know avocado is expensive but in my opinion so is a $9+ deli sandwich with 1/8th of an avocado. Hopefully next time I can experience the cougar at its finest. read more

This used to be the best sandwich shop around. I've gone here twice since the ownership change and both times have had something wrong with my $14 sandwich. I asked for no mayo as I cannot eat it and they put it on there anyway. I even asked to make sure before I left this last time because last time I bought a sandwich from here, I got home and couldn't eat my sandwich. They looked me in the eye and said they did not put mayo on it, which was a lie. They also didn't have all of the ingredients on my sandwich thats supposed to come on it. What's the point of owning a food place if you can't even give the customer what's on the menu or what they asked for? I called and told them what happened and they hung up on me. Very very bad idea. We ordered a DD delivery. I ordered a cheese sandwich cheddar and habanero jack (extra $$$). So you think the main ingredient would be cheese, right? Since I deleted the picture, please look at the picture above of the Turkey sandwich, The picture shows you the amount of cheese I had on my CHEESE sandwich. One layer, 2 pcs, of the triangular cheddar and lots of bread and vegi's. No extra that I paid for. We haven't been back to that location and never will. I ordered the vegan with avocado sandwich online. Picked up my order and ate in store. I opened my sandwich, which was abnormally flat. I noticed that there was only 2 very thin slices per side of bread of avocado. It wouldn't have even amounted to a 1/8 of an avocado. I was able to hold up the bread to the staff and asked if this is standard avocado for a veggie sandwich which has no meat and they stated yes. Subway puts more on the $5 subs then what was on mine. I don't like causing issues so I chucked and then asked to buy a side of avocado. The staff charged me for a side of avocado which was put into the side containers for dressing. This now side of avocado contained more than my sandwich which I thought was hilarious. Poor customer service. read more

The sandwich spot is a pretty legit little sandwich joint located right in the heart of Rancho Cordova. This place has an extremely large menu which actually makes it difficult to decide what to order, kind of a pro and a con. But I will say that the service is extremely friendly and once you do decide which sandwich to pick, it's pretty freaking good. The sandwiches are car themed and my preference is the olds 442, it's essentially turkey and prosciutto warmed up and served on sweet bread, really freaking good. In response to the ownership/management comments to my original review, I've been compelled to update and further clarify my review. I would like to start off by saying that questioning whether a customer, who wrote a fair and almost completely positive review, has ever been to your establishment is always a great way to start. Thanks for pointing out that your potato salad isn't served in styrofoam. It is quite possible that I made an incorrect statement and for that, my apologies. It was never meant as a negative and especially not considering my statement that the potato salad is one of the best two or three I've ever had. To clarify, my comment was a general statement about the chain's potato salad and not in regards to this particular location as they were out on my only visit. I'm sure the environmentally conscious public will really appreciate the fact that the potato salad is served disposable plastic containers. Lastly, I wouldn't know about Mr. Pickles as I rarely go there and I've never ordered their potato salad. Thanks for pointing out what a bargain the combo is at $9.75 with tax for a sandwich, chips and a medium drink. My statement however was not in regards to the combo with a medium drink. I always upsize to a large drink and I'm quite sure that gets me very close to or over the $10 mark. Regardless, $9.75 or $10.25, it's all $10 in my book and in my opinion, is a little high for a sandwich with chips and a drink. The fact I'm at a Sandwich Spot location on an average of once a week is testament of the fact that I'm willing to spend "around" $10 on a sandwich combo regardless of my opinion, and that of several of my coworkers, that it seems a tad high for what it is. If I ever happen to make it back here I will definitely introduce myself, but at this point I'm feeling more inclined to spend my $9.75 elsewhere. Thanks for your input. read more
