Cragel is a must-try, but I would get it straight up as a carb instead of a sandwich next time. Bacon was very fatty and the cragel seemingly fell apart after being cut. Being from the NY area, I have a high standard for bagels, and this flaky crunchy croissant combo was awesome. Great mocha, too. Note: if you're getting takeout for a few people, BYO bag. Yes, you get the flakiness and buttery flavor from the croissant, and the denseness and shape from the bagel chromosome. It's $3.95 with cream cheese, but we got it just plain. I liked the flavor of the iced coffee here (roasted and not too bitter), but husband's Americano was just so so. A small is just 8oz. Small cafe. we got the cragel sandwich, matcha latte, drip coffee, skinny tofu and spicy chicken sandwich. the skinny tofu is the same as spicy chicken except with tofu. it was SOSOSOOSOSOS good. the cragel sandwich was super hot and the sausage inside was very good. it was simple yet flavorful. the spicy chicken sandwich was my favorite. it had marinated chicken and pickled cucumbers (not the one that you buy from store, it tasted homemade). it was super good 10/10 recommend. the manager was also super nice! great service and smile :) read more

"All sandwiches served hot" It says that on top of the chalkboard menu, but I guess it didn't sink into my feeble brain. Now that made sense for the $4.25 Grilled Cheese and the $9.75 Bul-go-gi Beef Sandwich, but for some reason, I was in the mood for egg salad. You ever have one of those moods...the egg salad mood? Maybe it's a second childhood thing or a subconscious memory of a kind chicken...or maybe you just need a mayo fix. Anyhow I ordered it thinking it would be like the one's I used to get at Lee's Deli where it was overstuffed between two slices of yeasty white bread. As laptoppers took over most of the tables next to the window, I sat at my lonely table next to the restroom for about ten minutes waiting for a sandwich I thought would take about thirty seconds to make. They don't have Diet Coke...yes, it's one of THOSE kind of places, so I picked up a can of San Pellegrino Limonata, the kind that has the little useless wrapper on top, and of course I had to get chips. Not Lay's mind you but a bag of Deep River Aged Cheddar Horseradish Flavored Kettle Cooked Potato Chips (photo: http://bit.ly/2lH5nEG). That was a mouthful...the name, not the chips so much. My $9.75 Egg Salad Sandwich finally arrived looking nothing like the lunchroom staple from days of yore. Hard-boiled egg mixed with mayo, yes, but also arugula, lettuce tomato, onion, and cheese. All the ingredients seemed right, but hot egg salad seemed so wrong like repealing transgender rights or enforcing Muslim travel bans. Yes, that kind of wrong. But I finished it without complaint at least until now. "All sandwiches served hot". They mean it. No exceptions. Is Lee's Deli still open? FOOD - 2.5 stars...nice ingredients but hot egg salad isn't right AMBIANCE - 3 stars...compact, light cafe appears to attract the young and fat-fingered SERVICE - 2.5 stars...OK, not that friendly TOTAL - 3 stars...I'm guessing the "real" hot sandwiches are more satisfying, right? read more

One of the best neighborhood coffee shops I've found in Nob Hill! Chia latte is my favorite in the city - perfect balance of spicy and sweet! Cold brew is the best I've ever tried -it's so smooth and has the best flavor (not bitter at all) I could literally drink it black but I like the taste of vanilla and splash of oat milk :) Cragel with cream cheese is really good! Matcha latte is sweet and good for a coffee shop but not the most authentic you could find in the city, but still you wouldn't be disappointed if you got it (at least I wasn't) They do get really busy but for good reason! Seems like they are hiring more people to help beat the rush. read more

Worst customer service by far. My friends and I stopped in for a quick bite and coffee around noon yesterday but unfortunately we were not treated well in the slightest. The man working the cash register was extremely rude, terrible customer service, bad attitude and I if I knew his name I'd say it but all I know is he had long curly hair, in a half up man bun. Come early or be disappointed. Despite several morning visits, I have yet to try the toast cups because they sell out so fast. Even at 10AM, I only barely managed to snag the last cregel! Visiting in the afternoon, this place is a totally different place... and totally deserted. I realize their kitchen is small, but I wish they'd find a way to increase their stock. The cregel is worth a try- light, flaky croissant dough in the shape of a bagel, with increased density to match. The sandwich holds up well, but you can also get it with plain cheese. Bagels are limited in flavor (and Asiago has a surcharge, and also runs out early in the AM) but fresh and chewy. Coffee and tea drinks here are average, so come in the morning for their standout breakfast items and grab to go. read more

Yes yes yes! I absolutely loved this little cafe! My boyfriend and I were staying right down the street at the Executive Vintage Hotel and decided to hit this place up before heading out for some site seeing. We decided to share the cragel with cream cheese. I love bagels and I love croissants so naturally this was a match made in heaven. The portion size was huge so perfect for us to share and it was toasted just right. For a drink I went with a caramel latte. It was a little bit sweeter then I'm used to but overall very tasty. I highly recommend passing up Starbucks and giving this place a shot. Now if only I could get a location closer to me. read more

[Out-of-Towner Review] When you need something to bright you up after a lackluster meal! We had originally planned to stop here, but realized it was super small and didn't have a huge breakfast menu. Stupidly, we went with Roxanne's Cafe down the street, but made our way back here after anyways. That being said, I am not seeing I missed out on trying a Cragel! I'm intrigued... The just okay coffee we had a breakfast left me wanting a treat. Coffee in SF is usually generally a good idea, so we walked the block to Beanstalk so I could get myself my usual weekend caffeinated treat - a soy mocha! BC was lightly crowded. Each chair inside was full and there was a very short line, which we obliged by waiting in. Their offerings looked (and smelled) delicious. I still went with my tried and true and ordered a soy mocha and Lil followed suit. I love my drink! It wasn't too sweet (like Sbux tends to be), it was just the right amount of mocha to soy ratio. It was cool to see the Barista pour the steamed milk into the cups as the finishing touch, sadly no cool design ;) I kid, I don't care if they do mocha art on my drink, for goodness sakes its for drinking! If you're like Lil and like the sweeter stuff, this might not be the drink for you or ask for more syrup in your drink. I loved the quaint atmosphere and appreciated that they sold quality beverages. If we're ever in this area again, we will stop by. There was nothing spectacular about the staff, but they seemed cordial and made a good drink -- nothing to fault there! I came here after work on a Tuesday afternoon. I was scared that since it wasn't morning, they wouldn't be serving cragels anymore. To my surprise, they were still serving cragels! I ordered the Cragel with cream cheese and it was really filling!! The only thing was that it was a little tough but it was definitely super unique. It was worth the walk up the steep hill! The cafe is really small with only 1 small table and a couple bar stools, so I don't think coming here with groups of people would be very effective. Lots of veggies, a tiny bit of chilly sauce and even some apple to add a twist of sweetness. I loved how thinly sliced each veggie was! The cragel is the perfect blend of both a bagel and a croissant. I would love to try it open faced with some cream cheese and avocado/tomato/onion. The restaurant is small but we beat the morning rush and people do leave relatively quickly after their meals. Interior - pretty cute. Coffee - good. Customer service and friendliness - 0/5. I asked for room in my coffee, so the cashier left me a little space. There was only whole milk and half and half available to use, so I asked the barista if I could use the soy milk to top off my coffee. He said no, not if I didn't pay the 35 cents for soy. I showed him how little I would be using, and he said no, sorry. Are you kidding me? I understand charging extra for non-dairy milks - for lattes, aux laits, etc. You're getting 8-16 oz. of it. But to charge the same amount for a small splash makes no sense. And then to actually be a stickler about it is even more of a turn-off. I'm newly in the neighborhood often, and needless to say, this place will not be my go-to. I hope saving the 8 cents by the soy milk was worth it! *update - the business owner contacted me, and personally apologized for the customer service, and even said that generally they wouldn't charge for a splash of non-dairy. I'm updating my rating, as one off experience shouldn't affect the rating of a place if it's not the norm. read more

There was a little wait because of how reputable this cafe is, but it didn't bother me too much. Overall, the cafe is small, with a counter to sit by and a little corner table. I wouldn't rely on having a space available to sit when coming here. The toast cup was different, but tasty, and the lattes were made well.
