Cragel is a must-try, but I would get it straight up as a carb instead of a sandwich next time. Bacon was very fatty and the cragel seemingly fell apart after being cut. Being from the NY area, I have a high standard for bagels, and this flaky crunchy croissant combo was awesome. Great mocha, too. Note: if you're getting takeout for a few people, BYO bag. I was not given one for my two sandwiches and coffee and made for a funny walk home. read more

It was near my hotel in union square and my husband and I just wanted a nearby breakfast area. The food was good. The coffee was also good. I feel like they use verve beans but I could be wrong it just had the same profile to it. Def. Recommend. read more

Cruffin cragel what? Those croissants really be getting around the block... we tried the cragel (croissant bagel) hybrid here. Yes, you get the flakiness and buttery flavor from the croissant, and the denseness and shape from the bagel chromosome. It's $3.95 with cream cheese, but we got it just plain. I liked the flavor of the iced coffee here (roasted and not too bitter), but husband's Americano was just so so. A small is just 8oz. Small cafe. I got the iced mint mojito drink. It was very subpar. Too much ice, so it was a bit watered down. I didn't taste the mint at all, not like how Phil'z makes it. I watched the barista take her time to make the drink; I felt that she lacked energy, like she didn't want to be there. Understandable for a Monday afternoon (I arrived at 12:20 PM), but I was in a rush and it affected my schedule. I wanted to enjoy this coffee, but unfortunately, I did not. read more

This place was a fantastic find in Nob Hill and was a great cafe to start the day with. The service was very friendly and they have an interesting mix of items to choose from for food and coffee. We both ordered the cross croissant/bagel hybrid and it was one of the most interesting things we ate on our trip. we got the cragel sandwich, matcha latte, drip coffee, skinny tofu and spicy chicken sandwich. the skinny tofu is the same as spicy chicken except with tofu. it was SOSOSOOSOSOS good. the cragel sandwich was super hot and the sausage inside was very good. it was simple yet flavorful. the spicy chicken sandwich was my favorite. it had marinated chicken and pickled cucumbers (not the one that you buy from store, it tasted homemade). it was super good 10/10 recommend. the manager was also super nice! great service and smile :) read more

Cute little spot in Nob Hill (it used to be so busy during pre-pandemic mornings!). If you're looking for an easy grab and go this place is for you. And if not, even better - they provide a nice sit down area where you can work. The items on the menu are very appetizing and you'll definitely find yourself enjoying a great bagel/veggie sandwich with a nice cup of coffee! read more

Nice cozy place with free wifi! They have non dairy milk options for the drinks which is super nice. Love the atmosphere and staff super friendly. Place is a bit small though so I wasn't able to get a seat with my friends when we visited (came at 11 am ish). read more

"All sandwiches served hot" It says that on top of the chalkboard menu, but I guess it didn't sink into my feeble brain. Now that made sense for the $4.25 Grilled Cheese and the $9.75 Bul-go-gi Beef Sandwich, but for some reason, I was in the mood for egg salad. You ever have one of those moods...the egg salad mood? Maybe it's a second childhood thing or a subconscious memory of a kind chicken...or maybe you just need a mayo fix. Anyhow I ordered it thinking it would be like the one's I used to get at Lee's Deli where it was overstuffed between two slices of yeasty white bread. As laptoppers took over most of the tables next to the window, I sat at my lonely table next to the restroom for about ten minutes waiting for a sandwich I thought would take about thirty seconds to make. They don't have Diet Coke...yes, it's one of THOSE kind of places, so I picked up a can of San Pellegrino Limonata, the kind that has the little useless wrapper on top, and of course I had to get chips. Not Lay's mind you but a bag of Deep River Aged Cheddar Horseradish Flavored Kettle Cooked Potato Chips (photo: http://bit.ly/2lH5nEG). That was a mouthful...the name, not the chips so much. My $9.75 Egg Salad Sandwich finally arrived looking nothing like the lunchroom staple from days of yore. Hard-boiled egg mixed with mayo, yes, but also arugula, lettuce tomato, onion, and cheese. It was all encased in a crusty organic wheat roll, and yes, you guessed it...it was hot. Hot egg salad (photo: http://bit.ly/2llkhzB). All the ingredients seemed right, but hot egg salad seemed so wrong like repealing transgender rights or enforcing Muslim travel bans. Yes, that kind of wrong. But I finished it without complaint at least until now. "All sandwiches served hot". They mean it. No exceptions. Is Lee's Deli still open? FOOD - 2.5 stars...nice ingredients but hot egg salad isn't right AMBIANCE - 3 stars...compact, light cafe appears to attract the young and fat-fingered SERVICE - 2.5 stars...OK, not that friendly TOTAL - 3 stars...I'm guessing the "real" hot sandwiches are more satisfying, right? read more

One of the best neighborhood coffee shops I've found in Nob Hill! Chia latte is my favorite in the city - perfect balance of spicy and sweet! Cold brew is the best I've ever tried -it's so smooth and has the best flavor (not bitter at all) I could literally drink it black but I like the taste of vanilla and splash of oat milk :) Cragel with cream cheese is really good! Matcha latte is sweet and good for a coffee shop but not the most authentic you could find in the city, but still you wouldn't be disappointed if you got it (at least I wasn't) They do get really busy but for good reason! Seems like they are hiring more people to help beat the rush. read more

Come early or be disappointed. Despite several morning visits, I have yet to try the toast cups because they sell out so fast. Even at 10AM, I only barely managed to snag the last cregel! Visiting in the afternoon, this place is a totally different place... and totally deserted. I realize their kitchen is small, but I wish they'd find a way to increase their stock. The cregel is worth a try- light, flaky croissant dough in the shape of a bagel, with increased density to match. The sandwich holds up well, but you can also get it with plain cheese. Bagels are limited in flavor (and Asiago has a surcharge, and also runs out early in the AM) but fresh and chewy. Coffee and tea drinks here are average, so come in the morning for their standout breakfast items and grab to go. read more

Yes yes yes! I absolutely loved this little cafe! My boyfriend and I were staying right down the street at the Executive Vintage Hotel and decided to hit this place up before heading out for some site seeing. We decided to share the cragel with cream cheese. I love bagels and I love croissants so naturally this was a match made in heaven. The portion size was huge so perfect for us to share and it was toasted just right. For a drink I went with a caramel latte. It was a little bit sweeter then I'm used to but overall very tasty. I highly recommend passing up Starbucks and giving this place a shot. Now if only I could get a location closer to me. read more

Solid place for a light breakfast: friendly and efficient service, a very clean environment, and some excellent tunes emanating from the speakers. As for the chow, I had a plain bagel. Next time I'll ask for cream cheese on the side, as they smear it on immediately out of the toaster, and that alters the consistency of the cheese. I came here after work on a Tuesday afternoon. I was scared that since it wasn't morning, they wouldn't be serving cragels anymore. To my surprise, they were still serving cragels! I ordered the Cragel with cream cheese and it was really filling!! The only thing was that it was a little tough but it was definitely super unique. It was worth the walk up the steep hill! The cafe is really small with only 1 small table and a couple bar stools, so I don't think coming here with groups of people would be very effective. This place is definitely a grab and go cafe. read more

[Out-of-Towner Review] When you need something to bright you up after a lackluster meal! We had originally planned to stop here, but realized it was super small and didn't have a huge breakfast menu. Stupidly, we went with Roxanne's Cafe down the street, but made our way back here after anyways. That being said, I am not seeing I missed out on trying a Cragel! I'm intrigued... The just okay coffee we had a breakfast left me wanting a treat. Coffee in SF is usually generally a good idea, so we walked the block to Beanstalk so I could get myself my usual weekend caffeinated treat - a soy mocha! BC was lightly crowded. Each chair inside was full and there was a very short line, which we obliged by waiting in. Their offerings looked (and smelled) delicious. I still went with my tried and true and ordered a soy mocha and Lil followed suit. I love my drink! It wasn't too sweet (like Sbux tends to be), it was just the right amount of mocha to soy ratio. It was cool to see the Barista pour the steamed milk into the cups as the finishing touch, sadly no cool design ;) I kid, I don't care if they do mocha art on my drink, for goodness sakes its for drinking! If you're like Lil and like the sweeter stuff, this might not be the drink for you or ask for more syrup in your drink. I loved the quaint atmosphere and appreciated that they sold quality beverages. If we're ever in this area again, we will stop by. There was nothing spectacular about the staff, but they seemed cordial and made a good drink -- nothing to fault there! Super friendly service (was greeted with a genuine smile upon arrival and before I left) and good food. I tried the toast cup ($3.75) and grabbed two vanilla lattes to go. There was a little wait because of how reputable this cafe is, but it didn't bother me too much. Overall, the cafe is small, with a counter to sit by and a little corner table. I wouldn't rely on having a space available to sit when coming here. The toast cup was different, but tasty, and the lattes were made well. I would definitely come back and try some of the sandwiches because they look delicious! read more

Worst customer service by far. My friends and I stopped in for a quick bite and coffee around noon yesterday but unfortunately we were not treated well in the slightest. The man working the cash register was extremely rude, terrible customer service, bad attitude and I if I knew his name I'd say it but all I know is he had long curly hair, in a half up man bun. I needed a quick breakfast with some protein and a good, strong cup of coffee - Beanstalk Cafe did not disappoint! Their specialty are the little 'toast cups' with a thin bread baked around an egg and a strip of bacon. They were pretty good, and a good idea. I think it might be a big better if the egg was just slightly runny so you could dip the toast into it, instead of firm. The coffee was good and the crew spent time on doing the pour over to make sure it was done well and not rushed. It's a tight little spot in there but I was able to snag a chair, have a quick conversation and be on my way. Definitely worth checking out - I could also eat a couple of those toast cups! read more

Very good high quality coffee! I came here on a Sunday so they didn't have much food left. I also got my iced coffee to-go, so I didn't get to enjoy my coffee in those nice mason jars they offer. I asked her to turn down the volume, which she tuned down from an 11 to a 7, but minutes later it continued to creep up, like the snooze setting of an alarm clock coaxing you to wake up - except in this case, to get out. Ultimately, the volume got unbearable and we finally threw in the towel and got out of there to let the barista enjoy her music. One babka could have probably been split into two servings, especially if you want to try multiple items, but I didn't leave behind a single crumb. WoW... This place is my new default spot for sandwiches and coffee. This is literally the opposite experience I have had in the neighborhood so far... Ordered the Morning Breakfast sandwich and it was the best I've ever had in my life. Saw the owner carrying the bags of fresh Acme bread in from his truck. I love how down to earth these people are taking the time to do the extra things like that. Any case, that bread is perfection for sandwiches. Had a flat white which seems to be the new craze imported from Australia and they make the best one I've tried so far. The same owner with the spiked mohawk really seems to enjoy his craft because he takes the time to do these mundane things like clean the heads of the espresso machine before each shot or spin the espresso to shake off the excess grinds, etc... Its fun to watch him work during busy times... haha. Anyway, the prices are very reasonable considering the level of quality they deliver and the service was warm and definitely inviting. Came here today with my girlfriend as we were planning our day over lunch. Asked for recommendations and they had just popped a batch of their bul go gi beef out of the oven (heavenly scent in the air). Made our choice easy. The gf and I shared a sandwich and it was the best sandwich I have had anywhere. I know that's a crazy remark but everything was right from the bread (owner told me he picks up from Acme at the Ferry Building in the mornings) to the portion of beef, pepper jack cheese, fresh veggies, and the light toasting they do in their toaster oven. Our timing was right since we got the very first batch out of the oven. Definitely will go back here. GF had a "dirty chai" which she said was the best she's had anywhere. They use very premium quality goods from the looks of things which makes me feel I am really getting my money's worth here. Few days ago, I went there on tea party with my two close friends whose came from the other country. We actually went out for shopping but after some time we were feeling hungry. So we had another Dinner party at home but we have to take something right on that spot. Suddenly I thought to take a break on Beanstalk Café which was actually near to our shopping place. I'm staying at the Westin St. Francis and although we have a coffee bar downstairs, I decided on a quick stroll to this cafe based on the cute reviews. Ordered an iced vanilla latte, which was ready in 30 seconds, so I already knew it was not made fresh to order. It was very light whitish colored instead of the typical caramel color I'm used to, so I asked the barista if there was any espresso in it. He said yes, there was espresso in it. I asked if he can add more and I'll pay the added fee because it looks too light in color for my taste, and instead of offering to fix the drink, he argued again that there was espresso in it already. I didn't want to stand there and beg. I wasn't expecting to pay $5.00 for an iced cup of milk. Beanstalk is my new favorite place for coffee and breakfast in the city. I am coffee lover so am always looking for new places to venture (and excuses to try new types of coffee and shops, etc). I love coming in for their toast cups and sandwiches though (bulgogi sandwich, anyone?) The people are nice and serve you quickly, which is good for a small place like this one. Double the good for people like myself whom are always in a rush. I don't know how long this will last though, as it is getting quite popular. This was the BEST sandwich I ever had in my life! I was lucky enough to order the Korean Bulgogi beef sandwich right when they got it out of the oven and it was the bomb! Even after the short trip to the office, the bread retained that perfect, warm, crisp crunch you want from a freshly pressed panini. The Mortadella was richly flavorful and savory, while the Prosciutto tasted exceptionally fresh and high quality. If you're anywhere near Tillman Place, do yourself a favor and get these. The outdoor seating area looked cute and made me more optimistic, and the inside was gave cute quiet cafe vibes for real. The man behind the counter (presumably the owner) greeted us in a great mood. We had some decision anxiety choosing exactly which sweet treat to get. There were a wide variety of options, some seemingly more unique than others, but we ended up getting the tiramisu as they mentioned that it is made from scratch in-house. The owner struck up a refreshing conversation with Matt as he was packing up the tiramisu in a box for us. The only thing that made me go uhh was how he had to swat away a couple of fruit flies when opening the display case. The tiramisu here is better than the tiramisu at Stella, would highly recommend it. I'm a huge fan of having a friendly neighborhood conversation in the modern age of ordering kiosks and contactless pick up so I appreciated that the owner was chatty. I would definitely swing by again and consider eating my pastry onsite next time.

I think she also likes that Nagham knows exactly what smoothie she wants, and even has it ready before her arrival some days (She's has pink hair & orders the strawberry banana). I think she even received a birthday smoothie on the house!!! She recently started trying the bagel breakfast sandwiches, and she says they're the best bagel breakfast sandwiches she's ever had too. It really touched my heart learning about Nagham, and how sweet he's been to my kid. Sadly, our schedules have changed again, and my daughter won't be transferring busses in front of Angel Cafe any longer. She's devastated she won't get her morning smoothies anymore, or see the sweet guy in the cafe who makes them for her. I promised her I'd bring her by someday. Sometimes we don't realize what kind of positive impact he have on others. You never know what people are going through, and how the little things can be such a huge deal.
