Very cute cafe in Nob Hill/Financial District area. Perfect for grabbing a coffee or meal and catching up with a friend. It's a small cafe but it's super cozy and gets a lot of light! I was really excited to try the bulgogi sandwich but they were out of bread. So I got a salmon bagel instead. I would love to come back and try the bulgogi one one day. read more

Upon walking in, I saw sticky notes saying that they were out of bagels - big bummer :(. Luckily, they have plenty of sandwich options (including vegetarian options!). I ordered the "Mina's Veggies" sandwich. First of all, the sandwich is huge considering the price; it could easily be split between two people as a light breakfast or lunch. The sandwich was full of fresh veggies and fruits (I was initially thrown off about apple slices being in the sandwich, but it ended up delicious). The bread was a tad stale, but it was still delicious. The service was excellent. I informed the cashier that I needed half of the sandwich to-go, and he happily wrapped my sandwich! They also have self-serve water / water cups, so you can easily refill your own water bottle. read more

Have I been living under a rock? Feel free to call me Patrick star, because I had no idea there was such a thing as a Kraegel!?? & boy have I been missing out. PSA: the Kragel will sell out so run, don't walk! Hot or not? Bacon kraegel: 10/10 bites bacon, egg, no cheese, added Mayo and avocado. Bagel bread with fluffy buttery croissant shell. Very tasty. Delicious and not at all what I expected when told about the kraegel by my local sister. Sausage Kragel: 9/10 bites this one kind of fell apart because the sausage patty was sliced up and bits kept falling out. But tasty. Side of bacon: 9/10 bites thick crisp well cooked not to crispy. Just right. Iced Matcha: 4/10 sips chunky, kept stirring and it was not a nice consistency powdery and chunks. Caramel cappuccino: 8/10 sips very sweet. Parked up the street. We arrived at a good time there wasn't a line but shortly after we sat the line was out the door. The Kragel sold out a few orders after us but it was a very popular item. Seating is first come so plan accordingly or take it out. read more

This super cute cafe is 100% worth a stop for a quick, casual brunch before going out exploring! It was already busy when we stopped in so we knew it was going to be good. You order at the counter and are given a number, we were lucky enough to find a table. They have a good amount of seating, but it took a bit of waiting since it was pretty busy around 11am. My brother and I split the bul go gi beef sandwich and one of the daily special breakfast sandwiches. Both were amazing, super flavorful on the best crunchy bread! Our coffees were delicious as well, this place is definitely staying on my list for next time I'm in the area! read more

This place makes great coffee. Ordered an iced latte, and it was good. However, we ordered 2 bacon egg and cheeses on bagels, and they came out with a sausage egg and cheese. The employee actually gave us a new one for free to correct it. It was good customer service. read more

Got the bulgogi sandwich for lunch and was very impressed. It was the perfect fusion sandwich - bulgogi and sandwiches are such a great combo! The sandwich had a good amount of juicy bulgogi and I particularly loved the pickled cucumbers, which I thought was the perfect complement. Theres ~2 tables outside which is where I prefer to sit when the weather is nice / to people watch :) read more

Unfortunately, I had a very unpleasant experience here. Customer Service was very subpar and the people that work at this location should work on their "people" skills. While there, the cashier informed my party that the listed prices were incorrect; he used a sharpie to change and raise the price of a burrito in real-time. Additionally, when I asked if he could remove the bacon from one of the sandwiches, he huffed and puffed in annoyance and stated, "all of the sandwiches come as is and he couldn't make any changes to them". I decided to proceed with the sandwich as is and give the café a chance. Upon receipt of the sandwich, I noticed that the bacon was undercooked. When I came back up to the ordering section, the cook greeted me with a disturbed, "What do you want?" The cashier then proceeded to interject and tell me that he wished I would have told him that I liked bacon well-cooked beforehand, again expressing annoyance. Ultimately, I requested a refund since the overall attitude of the staff was very unpleasant. Maybe they were having a bad day, but overall, it was a very unappealing experience. read more

Cragel with bacon egg cheese $10.75 - just good, not great. Expected bigger for the price. Cragel was good but nothing to really write home about. I preferred my $6 croissant breakfast sandwich at fresh brew coffee down the street from the day before. Lox bagel $9.50 - bfs first time having a lox bagel. He said it was refreshing. I didn't see much salmon or cream cheese, as I'm used to seeing them loaded with that instead of with lettuce and tomatoes. Iced latte $5 - your typical latte, not too sweet or bitter. I did appreciate that there wasn't too much ice in it and actually more coffee. Got busy in the morning. Fast service. There are some seats, but we snagged the last one. I needed some coffee and decided to visit Beanstalk Cafe as it was near my hotel in Nob Hill. My husband isn't a breakfast person so I went solo. I made the trek down to Bush street via Powell and found it next to Sons & Daughters. I walked in, took a quick look at the menu and decided on a Cragel (croissant/ bagel hybrid) breakfast sandwich with bacon. I also ordered a latte. I didn't want anything super fancy but on other days I would have liked to have tried their cold brew. Their cold brew appliance looked awesome. I asked for it to go but I ended up eating it in its entirety. I was famished I guess. The cragel had eggs, cheese, and bacon inside and it was served warm. It was really good. The latte was standard so I added my raw sugar to it and took a big sip. Instant pick-me-up, which was what I needed. Good service and a solid menu. Great little cafe with a good matcha latte and bulgolgi sandwich, but nothing out of the ordinary. There's only a few tables so it fills up quickly. Ambiance is a bit dingy with dim lighting and really really low music. I would come again and get the food and drinks to go. read more

Delicious and fresh sandwiches here and there's so many to choose from! This place was walking distance from our hotel so we decided to check it out and I am glad that we did! The interior is a bit small, but it truly adds to the "home-y" feel of the place. It's not fast since there are only two people working, but you do get a fresh and delicious sandwich that will fill you up! read more

Really nice coffee shop! Has wonderful coffee and great food! Perfect for a quick stop or a place to work for a couple of hours. Service was great and the coffee and food came out pretty quickly! Climbed up the hill for this cute little sandwich shop. My friends and I ordered the different sandwiches, and I gotta say, the sandwiches were absolutely delicious. The server advised us to get any of the pesto, and the turkey pesto on their made bread was absolutely delicious. I could've eaten fifty more sandwiches. The inside felt cozy, but we were able to find a place to sit on Friday noonish, would definitely come back! read more

Headed to the neighborhood to try out a famous bakery nearby--- the line was obscene so we found this place instead! And what a treat! We had a delicious bagel and breakfast sandwich. This cafe will always have my heart. I used to live here on bush st and would come here frequently to work. There's decent amount of seating, good breakfast sandwiches (bagels!), and pretty good coffee. The staff is super nice and they will answer all your questions. It's definitely a good working cafe as they have wifi, but there are no outlets. The ambiance does give very studious/hard working vibe. Today, I got the iced matcha which wasn't sweet (but I didn't ask for it to be either) but the matcha also wasn't that strong of a flavor. I would recommend their chai lattes or any other lattes over the iced matcha. Additionally, the sandwiches are super good as well as the bagels but note that there are no cream cheese flavors, just plain. Overall love this place, it's super good and reliable. Definitely worth checking out! read more

Stopped in this cafe to grab a quick breakfast while on a weekend trip to San Francisco. I had read reviews on Yelp and had to try the cragel sandwich. I arrived around 10am and the place was pretty busy. To my surprise the sandwich came out rather quickly. I had the bacon, egg, and cheese cragel. It was very tasty, but my only complaint is that I wish they had jelly or some type of sauce to put on the sandwich because it was sort of dry. Outside of that it was an excellent sandwich and a good experience at the cafe. I would definitely return and try more items next time I'm in town. read more

Small but busy cafe in Union Square! Loved the interiors and coffee. One of the few good breakfast places that shows up when I search for "tofu". I expected to find a brunch menu but they had a limited menu. The dishes seem to have a Korean influence and that shows in the amazing flavors. Got the spicy chicken sandwich and skinny tofu sandwich, both had the protein marinated in kimchi flavor - for the skinny tofu sandwich the taste got monotonous very quickly. The sandwiches also were huge, both the bread and stuffing as well - bread was hard to bite into and chew. Would love to try going there again to check out other non-tofu menu items. read more

This was the one place I keep going back to... the coffee was good! And I'm picky about coffee (prefer the small shops and not large burnt overly sweet drinks). I had the cappuccino and macchiato. Each time - it was consistent and oh so good. Ordered food each time - tried a variety of the breakfast sandwiches. Each one was fracking amazing. Seriously regretted not going here every day as the other near by places paled in comparison. It's a cozy place that fills up on the weekends. Great energy and people were mainly accommodating of one another. The folks working there were fantastic. There were long lines - newbies like who had lots of questions which were patiently answered. I was really curious what a "Cragle" is? After having tried one; it's the solution for when a bagel is too dense, but a croissant is too flaky. In conclusion Cragles are the superior breakfast sandwich choice. In addition they have a decent coffee selection from espressos to pour overs to slow dripped cold brews; passes the vibe check for a demi coffee snob like me. Besides that this is a cute and cozy spot for casual breakfast or brunch, and I can see myself being a regular here. read more

Beanstalk Cafe near Union Square blew me away. I got the Iced Espresso Cola, and it was probably one of the best iced coffees I've ever had, and I do not even usually like coffee that much. The balance of flavor and refreshing kick was just perfect. I also appreciated the relaxed, welcoming atmosphere that made it easy to get some work done on my laptop. Great vibes, friendly staff, and a cozy spot in the middle of SF. Definitely a coffee spot worth checking out. read more

I am a big fan of their toast cups! It feels pretty light and its small enough for me to eat without being bogged down in the morning. They do tend to run out of these though, so you'll have to get up early which can be tough on a weekend! However, worth a visit if you work around here and can pop in for a quick bite. Iced coffee is good as well! Sandwiches for lunch are pretty decent - produce is fresh (which is not always the case). Found the cragle to be overhyped IMO because it is still more dense than I would like in a croissant-associated item. It's buttery, but dont think I would need to order it again. read more

Do they ever have those damn bacon and egg cups? I saw awhile back other reviews saying they didn't have them but I figured maybe today could be my lucky day (when I went back in May). I trekked up the hill and this was all before 8AM. I told the cashier that I wanted the bacon and egg cup. Then one of the other workers said to her, and not directly to me, "We don't have them today." And I said, "Ohh..do you know what days you have them typically?" Then the cashier goes, "I don't know." *rolls eyes* This place definitely has sh*t customer service. I didn't want a heavy cragel because I was going to work out in a few hours, so I just went with their iced coffee mojito drink. It's definitely pricier than Philz's. It was pretty good, not going to lie and definitely gave me a jolt of caffeine. However, I still prefer Philz's creaminess and smooth flavor. I noticed there was one table in the corner that had a sign saying no wifi for several hours during the morning rush. I guess they just save that for a quick seat for those waiting for to go, but seems a bit rude. I think this spot really counts on people who live or work nearby (perhaps not needing to walk up the fat hill in Union Square) especially given the poor service and not having one of their signature items ever in stock. read more

Cute little coffee shop that was very popular this morning. Easy enough to get in and order to-go if there aren't any tables available. I thought they ran very efficiently for the volume of people coming through and their space. We ordered the veggie bagel and crando sando with no meat. It all came out delicious and the veggies were fresh. I enjoyed the drip coffee and thought it had a good flavor - definitely on the medium to strong side of coffee roasts - but it still hit the spot. read more

This is a nice little coffee shop that is great for a fast bite and a drink. They offer a number of breakfast bagels and sandwiches and will get it out to you relatively quickly. I had the standard breakfast bagel with bacon egg and cheese which was pretty good but I wish I had gotten their special sandwich of the day that my friend got which looked fantastic. Would definitely go again. 4/5 stars read more

WoW... This place is my new default spot for sandwiches and coffee. This is literally the opposite experience I have had in the neighborhood so far... Ordered the Morning Breakfast sandwich and it was the best I've ever had in my life. Saw the owner carrying the bags of fresh Acme bread in from his truck. I love how down to earth these people are taking the time to do the extra things like that. Any case, that bread is perfection for sandwiches. Had a flat white which seems to be the new craze imported from Australia and they make the best one I've tried so far. The same owner with the spiked mohawk really seems to enjoy his craft because he takes the time to do these mundane things like clean the heads of the espresso machine before each shot or spin the espresso to shake off the excess grinds, etc... Its fun to watch him work during busy times... haha. Anyway, the prices are very reasonable considering the level of quality they deliver and the service was warm and definitely inviting. Came here today with my girlfriend as we were planning our day over lunch. Asked for recommendations and they had just popped a batch of their bul go gi beef out of the oven (heavenly scent in the air). Made our choice easy. The gf and I shared a sandwich and it was the best sandwich I have had anywhere. I know that's a crazy remark but everything was right from the bread (owner told me he picks up from Acme at the Ferry Building in the mornings) to the portion of beef, pepper jack cheese, fresh veggies, and the light toasting they do in their toaster oven. Our timing was right since we got the very first batch out of the oven. Definitely will go back here. GF had a "dirty chai" which she said was the best she's had anywhere. They use very premium quality goods from the looks of things which makes me feel I am really getting my money's worth here. Few days ago, I went there on tea party with my two close friends whose came from the other country. We actually went out for shopping but after some time we were feeling hungry. So we had another Dinner party at home but we have to take something right on that spot. Suddenly I thought to take a break on Beanstalk Café which was actually near to our shopping place. I'm staying at the Westin St. Francis and although we have a coffee bar downstairs, I decided on a quick stroll to this cafe based on the cute reviews. Ordered an iced vanilla latte, which was ready in 30 seconds, so I already knew it was not made fresh to order. It was very light whitish colored instead of the typical caramel color I'm used to, so I asked the barista if there was any espresso in it. He said yes, there was espresso in it. I asked if he can add more and I'll pay the added fee because it looks too light in color for my taste, and instead of offering to fix the drink, he argued again that there was espresso in it already. I didn't want to stand there and beg. I wasn't expecting to pay $5.00 for an iced cup of milk. Won't be returning to this cafe when there are other coffee bars around town that are willing to create drinks catered to their customers' preferences. read more

Beanstalk is my new favorite place for coffee and breakfast in the city. I am coffee lover so am always looking for new places to venture (and excuses to try new types of coffee and shops, etc). I love coming in for their toast cups and sandwiches though (bulgogi sandwich, anyone?) The people are nice and serve you quickly, which is good for a small place like this one. Double the good for people like myself whom are always in a rush. I don't know how long this will last though, as it is getting quite popular. This was the BEST sandwich I ever had in my life! I was lucky enough to order the Korean Bulgogi beef sandwich right when they got it out of the oven and it was the bomb! I ordered an iced sugar free vanilla latte which was quite average definitely nothing to write home about but the San Francisco bagel which was veggie and I had it with cream cheese to complement the the cucumber alfalfa sprouts, tomatoes and onion, and added an egg. This was filling and I was only able to eat half. It was healthy which is exactly what I wanted an a Sunday morning. There was no line when I arrived and it started to get busy as my order was being prepared. The plaza is spacious and ample seating. If you're afraid of pigeons, there are hundreds of them hanging around, flying overhead while you're having your meal. This is a great little spot for a fresh and quick bite if you're staying close to this location.
