Turkey pesto sandwiches and Taro latte
    Lizzie S.

I love Beanstalk! I come here for coffee and lunch, and bring other people here for meetings. Some tables occasionally say no working there which is nice. It's a great space--light and airy. I've enjoyed the Turkey pesto sandwich, Funky Town special breakfast sandwich in January 2025, an iced oat latte, and a special Taro latte. I loved the taro flavor of the taro latte. Both sandwiches were good quality bread and meat. The sauces were a nice accessory and not over-done. I love the service and space. It's a Lower Nob Hill/Union Square treasure!

In town staying at the awesome and stupid cheap Emblem Hotel around the corner and needed sustenance in between business meetings. Looked up my trusty Yelp app and the Beanstalk Cafe stood out with its great reviews. The place didn't disappoint! I ordered the Funky Town breakfast sandwich ($13.75) chock full of yumminess: Mayo, PJ Chees (pepper jack cheese), cream cheese, chorizo sausage, regular sausage, bacon, egg, onion & apple. This sandwich was perfect. So many flavors, ooey gooey WITH APPLES (Wut!) on a delicious toasted ciabatta. It is a big sandwich so I hope you have a big appetite. I could certainly finish it off because it was so yummy but instead, I gave the other half to my room attendant/maid. Service was super friendly and quick and the place is tiny but cute. Highly recommend.

I was lucky to find Beanstalk during my stay in SF. This place is so so good! I walked from my hotel for a quick weekday brunch. A very cozy space to have your coffee and breakfast sandwich. I have to say the copper cup for my iced oat milk vanilla latte is so genius. Do they serve iced latte's in copper cups at other places? This keeps the latte cold until the last drop. I had the bagel sando with egg, sausage on an everything bagel. This really hits the spot! The service is friendly and staff is helpful. Really good experience during my visit. I'm sure this place gets busy during the peak hours at breakfast. Highly recommend. A must visit when in the area.

Iced oat milk latte w hazelnut, iced white mocha - tasted like a flavored Keurig over ice

This place had rave reviews and we were on the other side of the neighborhood on our way to Salesforce park, so we detoured to grab our morning coffees and a bite to eat. The bulgogi looked super good so we saved our appetite and decided on eating when we got coffee. It was.......... okay. The drinks - we tried an iced white mocha and an iced soy hazelnut latte, both took a while to get even when ordered to-go. They weren't very good and were expensive for the size; normally I chalk it up to the economy and obv being in the city, the price still didnt match the product or the place. They were a bit pretentious for being lackluster and not great quality. It seemed bothersome when people would approach to order. The espresso shots tasted like they pulled them too late and were a bit bitter and watered down. The inside is tiny, which is expected. It is a little crowded because of the layout but they do a decent job of having seats where they can, and 2 small patio tables out front on the sidewalk. My biggest gripe was that they were out of a LOT... and some items they didnt put signage that they were out of stock. Including the bulgogi sandwich we were looking forward to trying, and most bagel flavors on their menu were also out. We reluctantly tried a bagel breakfast sandwich w sausage and we regretted it quickly. It took super long to come out and was very basic, no flavor or seasoning on the eggs or the meat and the bagel was cold. The sausage was just a sliced link that was disappointing in flavor as well, especially for the price. We wont be coming back and wouldn't recommend it, but I hope they take feedback into account as I understand how competitive it is for coffee shops in the city. :/

Bacon egg bagel ($10.50) - 3.5 stars. Bagel was a little hard, so it did slide around a bit when taking bites. Fri breakfast 2025-02-28

Cute local cafe. High 3 stars. Very good service - I changed my mind about a million times and the woman at the counter was endlessly patient with me. No wait around 8:30am on a Friday morning. They had a few customers, I saw some people come in and out, there was space to sit. No more cragels, which I'd seen on reviews and was the reason I came :(. Total for 2 bagels and a latte including tax/tip: $31.23. * Matcha Latte ($5.75) - 3.5 stars. Wholesome and tasty, not too sweet. But I wish the foam was thicker. * Bacon egg bagel ($10.50) - 3.5 stars. Bagel was a little hard, so it did slide around a bit when biting into the sandwich. Otherwise good!

Wow, low bar with these reviews here. This place kinda sucked. The coffee was old and bitter, a hard combo to produce. The area was surrounded by passed out bums. And if you're really just Jonesing for that late 1990s vibe, this place will hook you up by charging you for Wi-Fi! Literally like a time warp here.

Cool vibe in the coffee shop; quaint and busy!

Got an iced dirty chai here and it's delicious! I wanted a local shop vibe for morning coffee and this spot delivered.

Stopped in here for a quick lunch. I got the Bul-Go-Gi Beef and a latte. The food was good for the prices and the staff was very friendly. I would definitely go again if I am in the area. Bul-Go-Gi Beef: I was pretty happy with my sandwich. The bread had a nice crunch to it and the meat seasoning was sweet, but not overwhelmingly so. Not huge, but pretty reasonably sized. Latte: No complaints here. Tasted good, but nothing out of the ordinary. The servers were nice and helpful with any menu questions. The menu informs sandwiches take about 15 minutes, which was roughly how long it ended up taking for my order. The inside of the cafe is pretty small, but after about five minutes outside I was able to get a table.

This place is meh. The coffee is good, but the service made me not want to come back. They were all just huffy and couldn't be bothered if you asked them for something. The bagels were pretty mid too. Too bad, it's a cute place.

This is my go to whenever I don't feel like bringing lunch with me to work. They have great sandwiches and bagels and I cannot decide on what is my favorite one. I am definitely loving the lox bagel and pastrami sandwich. Great spot in Nob Hill!

Does beanstalk have the best cold brewed coffee in SF? Or if there another coffee house I should go to?…

I just had a cold brew from there and it was fantastic! I come from NY and theirs is right up there! Very delicious and smooth flavored. A really good cup of coffee.

How is seating for a party of five?

It's kind of a small place but if you arrive at the right time you could get seating for a party of 5. It usually pretty busy tho.

The Mocha with the house made nut milk fell flat. It needed something. I am not a fan of syrupy coffees and appreciate the more purist approach but this one just didn't do anything for me. The chai latte which I would never order was actually the best chai latte I have ever had, it was smooth like silk. Maybe I just had the wrong coffee order. Besides that, got the hot chocolate and the coffee tasting. I was surprised there was no explanation provided with the coffee- I figured it's all Honduran but an overview of some sort would have helped. I enjoyed all the coffees in there except the latte. Will visit again, earlier in the day so they are not out of their best sellers and try a different order.

I feel like Yoshoku in general may be next but I yet again digress. The box sandwich came in a cute little box. The inside was packed so I couldn't get a chance to fully appreciate the cafe, but the service was nice though the pay line may have moved slower than hoped. I'll say this. This is "the" best katsu sando in the bay. The katsu is crispy, but little on the softer side. But this hardness matches perfectly with the absolutely tender, soft, juicy pork wrapped inside. I'm looking at the menu again and it all makes sense. The pork has been in shio koji, making the meat ever so tender while adding the subtle but complicated marinated flavor. The cabbage is plenty, but not over packed to take away from the main Katsu flavor. What really perfects it for me, was not only the sweet and savory katsu sauce, but the mayo with dash of I think a karashi mustard. That slight tingle, the perfect kick gives a powerful awakening of flavor that really sets the it apart. This is art, an artisan.
