Someone brought me one of these cream puffs at work and I was instantly hook. I decided to drop by this location and get enough cream puffs that I can lie flat down and make snow angels out of them (jk, just enough for my family which is probably the same either way). I bought several boxes, mixed with strawberry and vanilla. I stuffed my face with one right when I got out the store and they were nice, puffy, generously filled , and delicious! Love Beard Papa's! I'm a huge fan of cream puffs, but what makes this place stand out is its cream. Not too rich and not too sweet. If you feel like just grabbing a simple dessert, you can get a single cream puff for $2.00. They have a bunch of variations to the plain cream puff as well such as a cookie puff, an eclair (ie. dipped in chocolate), and a cocoa puff (chocolate flavored puff) for $2.30. Their newest addition is the Paris brest, which pretty much looks like a cream-filled donut, but tastes more like a pastry than a donut ($2.60). In addition to the various puffs, they also have different flavored creams, which vary by week. I've tried the chocolate, the coffee, and the green tea, but my favorite is still the plain vanilla. Sometimes the simple things taste the best! :) Keep in mind that if you buy 6, you get a $1.50 discount (you can mix and match as well). Also, keep a look out for groupons. The last few times I've been here, I've always had a groupon and it's a great deal ($8 for $16). I ended up having to buy 8 cream puffs to use up the value of my groupon and they can keep for a couple of days, but the puff pastry becomes more soggy the longer you wait so I encourage you to eat them as soon as possible! I've made friends drive very much out of the way so I can get a cream puff, and I'm only a little sorry about it. Idk how they do it, but they manage to get a flakey, airy cream puff crust and fill it with a cream that is both rich and light at the same time. It's magical. They always have the vanilla and chocolate flavors, both so good, and you can choose what type of baked shell you want filled with the custard. The original is the good old cream puff outside. For a little more, you can get the cookie puff which is encrusted in chocolate? I think? Not sure but it's deliciously crunchy and a little sweeter. The Paris Brest is an elegant looking donut thing, you can also get a chocolate covered puff, an eclair, a coronet, a cocoa puff...the permutations are endless. They also have a third seasonal flavor that they sometimes run out of. I love the strawberry. Surprisingly, the green tea isn't as good as you might think it would be. Mini Puffs come in a container of six, you can mix and match flavors. I always get these, in addition to whatever cream puff I get, because portion control! I concede - when I first heard about Beard Papa's a few years ago, and tried them, I was not impressed. Granted, I think I was biased because the girls that offered them to me where squealing like little girls while downing a whole 12pk - not a pretty sight. I've grown up eating cream puffs from korean bakeries. My loyalty is rooted in fond childhood memories of Saturdays going to the store with the family and getting a whole box of these. Later it turned into getting those frozen cream puffs from Costco. I think my first impressions of Beard Papa's and the subsequent snobbery is based on the fact that I got leftover puffs. My friend Sally usually gave me the box she didn't finish. I always complained that it was no different than any cream puff I have tasted. But now having tried a fresh Beard Papa I can understand why they have fanatics. Its a huge difference eating them fresh from the counter. Getting them filled as you order. The crunch of the puff is a nice contrast. I got the original and my friend got the coffee cream with crumble. We were like two idiot schoolkids walking down the sidewalk. A very good after lunch treat. The location at Little Tokyo wasn't too pleasant. Kind of trashy in fact. The one in Sawtelle is nicer. But its nice to know there is one nearby my work. On 04/04/2024, around noon time. I went to get a Thai tea at beard papa's located at Little Tokyo Mall, 333 S. Alameda St. Suite 106, Los Angeles Ca . I'm a thai tea maniac and it was my mistake not tasting the tea before leaving this place. I went back to my office and had a sip and it tasted like water and I wasn't gonna go back for $4.50, because it was not worth going back due to my valuable time. My co-worker told me to go back and get a refund. So I went back to the place and told the gentleman who was working there alone. When I told him that it tasted like water, there was no apology. And he made a sample cup and drank it and told me that it tasted like thai tea and told me he'll give refund. To give another chance, I told him I'll try thai tea with no ice. He gave me another thai tea and it tasted like water. After this, he still didn't apologized. I was really upset but I calm myself and ask him for refund. I usually don't write negative review unless I'm very upset. On the way back to my office, I stopped at bobatime to get thai tea and thus,was genuine taste of thai tea. Thanks to a buddy of mine who gifted me a Groupon (www.groupon.com) offer ($16.00 of food for $8.00) to Beard Papa's in Little Tokyo because he wanted me to explore the area more...which I did and would gladly love to more! I was in the area on an errand and the thought of breakfast beckoned, so with Groupon in hand, the timing was just perfect! Like VIP service, I parked right out front their store in the Little Tokyo Shopping Center, and hungrily entered through their wide-open glass front doors. The scent of baked goods accelerated the salivation in my mouth and I was eager to buy everything in sight and by smell. I reviewed the wall menu, the items that were on display, and kindly asked the worker her recommendations. I told her this was my first time and I really wanted a good sampling to try. After some discussion, here was the order: classic vanilla ($2.00), cookie crunch puff ($2.30), chocolate éclair ($2.30), cocoa puff ($2.30), chocolate fondant cake ($2.80), paris brest ($2.60), and two regular size boba green tea ($2.50 ea.). I watched her craft some of my tasty treats and before I knew it, my puffs were all packed-up in the takeaway box. I kindly tipped her for her time and advice ($2.20). Once I got home, I split each puff in half (mind you, each one was about the size of your palm) and shared with my friend. Before we began the feast, we each took a swig of the boba, and man was it heavenly! It's been so long since we had boba (and we LOVE boba), it was like being reacquainted with an old friend. It wasn't overloaded with ice, a good amount of boba (I prefer about 20% of the cup), these balls were not too hard nor soft, and the green tea flavor was subtle. This would have sufficed, but we had puffs to try, too! We started with the classic vanilla and were instantly amazed with the creaminess, warmth, and soft flakiness of the pastry. Wow! Next up, the chocolate éclair was equally filled with creamy goodness but this one was kept with a chill. At this point, we were about to hit fullness, but we continued on to the chocolate fondant cake. I loved chocolate and this one was toothachingly filled with it. We needed a tall glass of ice cold milk to wash this down (but we had boba). After this, it was diminished returns as we hit our limit. Needless to say, the remaining three were sinfully good and the paris brest was fun with its twisted donut shape. Yes, we were in a puffy cloud coma. The service was good. There was only one female worker who handled my questions and Groupon promptly and properly. There was only one other customer in the store before me whom she helped just as quickly as she did with me. At this time of day, metered street parking was ample, so pulled up front like I was getting ready to rob the place with a clean getaway! Otherwise, there was parking in the Little Tokyo Shopping Center where this place was located in...and apparently was free validated parking (can't remember for how long). Overall, my first experience with Beard Papa's was a pleasurable one and I'm grateful to my friend and Groupon who offered this sweet (pun intended) deal. I found good value based on the prices noted above and the service (total bill was $5.00, which included the Groupon and tip). I've never bought cream puffs before, but these prices seemed comparable to donuts and other pastries. The atmosphere was like an ice cream parlor or donut shop, and quite possibly it may have been since the business looked fairly new and appeared like they were still doing some touch-ups. There were several display counters that showed their goods and the front counter where you could watch them prepare your cream puffs. Only a couple tables and chairs inside as well as right out their front door. No TV nor wall decorations. The attire was totally casual, so I was in a t-shirt, boardshorts, and flip-flops. Came here like two and half weeks ago for a long waited craving for a cookie cream puff. My boyfriend was sweet and got a Groupon for 18 dollars worth of cream puffs - I thought we were only able to get cream puffs with that Groupon but they actually allow you to get anything at the store. Since we didn't really want $18 worth of cream puffs, we also ordered two drinks - one of which was pretty gross...I thought the green milk tea would be similar to something like from Lollicup or something but it was this weird green color drink that also had a weird taste. It was pretty terrible. Though the cream puffs were good..especially the cookie one. The service was okay and they had some seating outside and inside their store. I also saw that they can even stuff the cream puff with ice cream and it's like $5. Overall I would stick with the cream puffs and not really the drinks. read more

This Japan based chain is not lying when they are known for their freshly filled cream puffs in different flavors, let alone cream puffs!!! I will say it again. This place is definitely a sweet spot for cream puffs, as they are light and airy. Even the eclair was delicious. Locals must love this place. Parking can be tough. Validate if you have to. Love the regular cream puffs but I encourage you to try the different ones too. I've been a fan of cream puffs for as long as I can remember but I didn't find out about this place until I randomly stumbled upon this gem while getting lost near Little Tokyo (en route to Daikokuya). Anyway! If you grew up only eating cream puffs from the Vietnamese shops in Santa Ana like me.. you should try this place out. It'll blow your mind. I only tried the vanilla flavor but thoroughly enjoyed it. Strong vanilla flavor (you can see some beans) and the consistency of the filling isn't floury like many other places. LOVE IT! Wish I bought more. It's 10.50 for 6 large puffs. $4 for 6 mini puffs. $2 for a single large puff. read more

Yummmmy! I came here to redeem my groupon since it was going to expire the next day. I've heard great things about this place so I was fairly excited. I thought they would have more flavors but I guess they rotate every week. This week they had the pumpkin which is SO GOOD!! I wish I got more. The vinilla was ok.
