I love Beard Papa's but will only go to this location if I'm going somewhere else in this plaza. There are tons of restaurants, a market, Daiso...a lot of good stuff here. But if not, I skip it. I do not make a special trip here. Parking is rough and they are always out of everything. I've gone four times now between 7-8pm (they close at 10pm) and they usually only have 1 or 2 types left. I had a rough experience my previous visit, but the owner reached out to me explaining that there was a new worker still being trained the day I visited and apologized sincerely about my expectations not being met. I can see that the owner cares about ensuring that customers are satisfied. Upon my most recent visit, I was happy to see that the workers made sure to provide quality cream puffs as each one was pretty perfect and matched the high standards of other Beard Papa's I've gone to. I respect that this establishment was able to take in a bit of criticism and use that to improve upon their little hiccups that might happen every now and then. My favorite is the honey and butter shell with pretty much any of the fillings ! It's good but overpriced and you can't eat in the store. Why aren't there even signs that say you can't eat there? They make you go outside to stand in the plaza parking lot and eat. The crème brûlée was good but messy to eat and they didn't provide any napkins. But they do provide an unnecessarily large to go container for one crème brûlée. They really just want you to buy and gtfo. My fiancé got the special flavor of the month Vietnamese Coffee and it was awful and bitter. I would not recommend it to others. I imagine they just use the same beans as their coffee or instant. The parking lot is awful too. It's cramped and every spot feels like a compact spot if you're lucky enough to actually find one. There's valet but I have no idea what they do besides take your money considering you still self-park. So yeah. Good luck. read more

The product is mediocre, you can make a better filling at home. I found the service at this location to be the worst. The store was empty when I arrived and it took a while for someone from the back to serve me. While I was there some nosey worker came to give me dirty looks through the glass and when I went to take this picture he scurried off. I think the quality kind of went down after going mainstream tbh. Welp... This one's in Sawtelle. Very deserted... (dessert-ed? :P) Empty and smells like cleaning fluid and run by a clearly unhappy employee. We tried to order as quickly as possible to gtfo. Even when we visited around 5pm, there were still at least four shell options left-- original, green tea, strawberry, and cookies & cream. The shells are more stiff/crunchy now, but the filling is still as good as I remember. We picked up: - COOKIES & CREAM (with chocolate filling): So. Sweet! Some of the best eclairs you'll have! My brothers love these so much and with good reason. Service is quick and they fill them up fresh with your choice of cream. They do this so they won't get soggy overtime. Thus, it's best to eat them pretty quickly within a few hours. We got an assortment of shelled eclairs with the "buy 5 and get the 6th one free" deal. My favorite is probably the Strawberry Shortcake or the Oreo. Their classic vanilla cream is so good too and is a favorite for a reason! The green tea filling is tasty as well, but a bit messy! Delicious and the perfect treat! Tried this place out for the first time today and I'll definitely be going back within the week! If you love cream puffs this is your place! First off, you get to order off of a kiosk, which if you're not a social butterfly, THIS IS YOUR JAM! There's quite a few options from plain to Oreo for the cream puff shell. And they have a few fillings to choose from: vanilla, chocolate, green tea, banana fosters, and on the weekends horchata! There's a flavor for everyone! You can mix and match cream puff shell flavors with fillings to make your perfect flavor combination. They also have yummy drinks as well! I ordered a chocolate dipped with chocolate cream and vanilla cream, an Oreo puff with chocolate and vanilla cream, and two churro puffs with vanilla cream. The chocolate dipped puffs taste more like dark chocolate which was amazing! It wasn't overly sweet and there was a nice crunch to the shell. The cream fillings are perfectly sweetened and just melt in your mouth good! The churro puffs were a bit more on the sweeter side but with the perfectly balanced filling it evened out. I haven't been here in years but we decided to stop by and grab a couple of cream puffs to have later for dessert. The concept is the same as when I was last here (you pick the cream puff shell you want and the flavor of filling and they make it right there for you) but they've added some more options. I got the s'mores puff with chocolate filling. It had chocolate on top of the puff dough and some toasted marshmallows. The puff was delicious and the chocolate filling was light and yummy. It was super messy to eat but I really enjoyed it. My fiancé got the Oreo shell with vanilla filling. He said it was also really tasty. It was about $4 for each cream puff but I felt it was worth it given the size and that you can customize it. Stop by if you're in the area and craving something sweet. Everything I've had here has been tasty. They do a good job of offering a variety of flavors all of which are unique and battle for the title of best of the best. I really couldn't point you towards just one. Well, maybe give whatever the seasonal special is since you'll probably have only one shot to try it. I always end up leaving here with a few more than I originally wanted to buy, but it's never too hard to either find someone to help you finish them off or just hold onto them for a day or two while you make your way through your box. Love this place. When I am near one I find myself drawn to pop in and get at least 1 or 2 mini cream puffs. There are multiple localization, but the location I frequent the most, is one on Sawtelle. Even thought it is located in a little strip mall with a small parking lot, parking can still be tough due to the popular restaurants on the street. If you are lucky, or go at an off time, you may be able to grab a metered street spot. The menu is simple: choose a shell and choose a filling. There are other items/desserts you can order but you go for the cream puffs. One puff can range from $3.50 (original) to $4.25 (Churro) depending on the shell. I usually keep it classic and go with the original shell, which is perfectly golden with a slight crunch, and then mix is up with the fillings (vanilla, green tea, chocolate). read more

Not bad, not bad at all! I am not a fan of American pastries by far. Most shops make them very greasy and use too much butter. Cheap butter too. I can always feel when a pastry shop uses some budget butter or margarine to save money. I saw this café being advertised on Snackpass app and though wasn't expecting much I was certainly eager to try. The pastries quality exceeded my expectations by far though. The idea here is pretty simple. You pick a pastry and then select the type of cream to fill it with. There are four options right now: vanilla, chocolate, Matcha and Horchata. I will leave the latter two for a next time. This time I got myself some vanilla and chocolate treats. They weren't too greasy and I didn't feel sick afterwards at all. That's a huge plus. I would say that four dollar per puff is a bit too much but it's worth to come to Papa and try their pastries at least once. read more

I've been cruising around Beard Papa's for a while and so far the one in Sawtelle near Santa Monica has been my favorite. They have parking down underneath. It's never too crowded but always crowded enough to keep them in business. The staff is always friendly and helpful. I frequent the Sawtelle area and over the years I have been to beard papas dozens of time. This is the first time I have ever experienced this kind of issue. I ordered the buy 5 get 1 deal I was warned at the register that there was very little chocolate cream and all they had was vanilla. Moving forward with the order the clerk started waiting in the next customer. I noticed the s'more eclairs were gone (when I ordered there were 2 left in the case.) I assumed that someone ordered the other one after me. Much to my surprise when I got home not only did I not get the cream puff I ordered I received one that I didn't order and it didn't have any filling. Going through the whole box 3 had no filling and 3 were under filled. I have worked food service jobs before and while 8:30 might have been later than ideal to make more cream (closes at 10). Honesty would have made me leave empty handed instead I'm pissed that I payed for cream puffs with no cream and received the wrong item to boot. I guess moral of the story is to watch them make your order or check them before you leave. I've been to this Beard Papa's many times and have always been met with friendly and helpful staff! I recommend trying out the green tea filling -- I think it's best with either a chocolate or strawberry eclair. Tip: check out the SnackPass app for possible deals. In fact, during my most recent trip, we started ordering and realized halfway through there was an applicable deal if you ordered on the app: however, the staff was really nice about letting us "reorder" and pay through the SnackPass app to use the deal. One of my favorite dessert places is definitely Beard Papas and this is one of my favorite locations. The only trouble is finding a parking spot however usually the parking attendant is nice if you tell him you are just grabbing your order for takeaway. They have so many different varieties of filling and cream puffs. Each day they have a flavor of the day however they also have their standard flavors. For the outer shells they have the original puff, several flavors of eclair, and a paris brest option. My favorite is the chocolate eclair with vanilla filling. Highly recommend it! However if you come close to closing they often run out and you'll be stuck getting the original puff. The one reason they lost a star is because their vanilla filling as changed over the years. It used to be very vanilla-tasting however now its more heavily butter/cream tasting. Still delicious, but not as great as it used to be. These are fun to get as a dozen in order to share with friends and family. Plus you get a bit of a discount the more you buy. read more
