I love the cream puffs at Beard Papas. I haven't even ventured away from the original cream puff. The furthest I've gone is to now by the mini ones which are delicious. They are great. They just pop in your mouth in one bite. The love and I were walking the dog down Sawtelle and decided to stop by because they have the new mango creampuff posted on the window and I LOVEEE mango everything! Walked inside and there were 3 people working. One working the cashier and the other two working on the filings and orders. They have a mini display with the available creampuffs but unfortunately there was only two there. :( I saw that they had a special of buy 5, get 1 free so I was going to do that, but once I started listing the ones I wanted, they were all sold out except for the mango. Therefore I only ended up getting the mango cream puff. ($3.20). Walked home and devoured the entire thing. It was so yummy! Since the puff itself was a little harder, whenever I bit into it, all the cream slid off and I had to eat both separately for the most part. Wow. I hadn't been here in so long. I had no idea that these things were so . . . customized now. I didn't know that there were so many choices. You literally had to pick what "shell" you wanted and then select what type of filling. I really enjoyed the strawberry shell with the vanilla filling and also the churro shell with either the horchata filling or vanilla. I bought the buy 5 get 1 free deal. I really wanted to give this place more stars but it just didn't do it for me. I ordered a matcha cream puff with vanilla filling, dulce de leche with chocolate filling and the Creme brûlée cream puff (has vanilla filling). I wanted to stay and eat it inside the cafe (since there was ample room) but I was surprised to see that the cashier already bagged it up for me to-go without asking. Strange. Either way I asked for a plate so my boyfriend and I could enjoy it in store. By the time I took the dulce de leche out of the wrapping the sticky caramel was already stuck to the parchment paper so it took a lot of force to un-stick it. The chocolate filling was really watery and not tasty in the slightest. It didn't have that custard goodness that I usually expect when I bite into a cream puff. The dulce de leche was also not one of my favorite flavors of cream puff either. The matcha cream puff was really good though. I loved the matcha icing and the vanilla filling is actually really really good. I would suggest anyone coming here to get the vanilla filling over the chocolate and strawberry. The creme brûlée cream puff is such a let down. It isn't good at all. She's a sucker for any kind of sugary rice treat. I tried a bite of it too, even though I'm not as big of a fan. It had a strong coffee and chocolate taste. As for texture it was hard. When you think of mochi you thing soft and sticky. I wish it was a little softer, we probably should of waited for it to thaw a bit. We ate the other desserts later at my Aunt and Uncle's house after dinner. The eclair was pretty good. They put a lot of cream in the middle. I've had better though. It was the chocolate fondant that was the star. We heated them up in the microwave for about a minute, thirty seconds at a time like the cashier had told us. They came out warm and delicious with ooey gooey chocolate in the middle. You could see the melted chocolate rise up to the top of the cake. Those fondants were my favorite.
