I love this cozy little cafe with a flower shop tucked in the back. I'm so glad to have such a unique & tasty spot to grab coffee & a bite to eat in the Admiral junction. I think it's one of the best spots on this side of town. They have sweet and savory waffles, bfast & lunch sandwiches, salads, coffee, AND alcohol. I come here mainly for their vegan field roast waffle but also for lattes when I'm in need of a caffeine boost. The waffle is super filling & perfect for bfast or lunch. I love the aioli & pickled veggies on it...YUM! I love anything that comes with pickled something! The staff is friendly & it's always a pleasant experience! I love that it's woman owned & their other spot (Bird on a Wire) in West Seattle is also awesome! it's a bittersweet moment when you find a new place that you're stoked to plan to return to because of your first experience but therein lies the problem (and the bittersweet part): you've never been there before and you immediately start kicking yourself, wondering why! do you know how many times i've driven by the corner of admiral and california, how often i've heard my students say they had gotten a beverage at admiral bird, seen the corner window packed with people yet not made it a point to pull the car over and discover the answer for myself? well i'm wondering why tonight because as a treat to a coworker we went there this morning and both raved about our food. the service was very friendly and the menu was interesting! i love waffles so couldn't resist getting one on my maiden voyage. the vegan version was STACKED with arugula and hefty chunks of field roast sausage. with just a little maple syrup, the mix of savory and sweet was amazing! i also loved the cornbread consistency of the waffle itself. i took half to go so will be enjoying it for breakfast tomorrow but am so excited to join the club of north admiral folks who clearly got the memo waaaaaaay earlier than i did that the bird is the local place to patronize. the owners have succeeded in terms of offering up tasty food. another noteworthy point is the beer on tap and social justice fundraising announcements and all/inclusive stickers posted all around so how could one not feel good about supporting their efforts? they've got my business! read more

I want this to be a cute little brunch spot, but due to location and popularity, that is impossible. Seating is a challenge and with door location can be both cold and cramped. Best bet is to go in alone and set at the small bar. There will be kids there and volume can be loud. The food it good, pastries are fine, coffee is good. If you order a crescent roll/croissant they WILL put it in the panini press unless you make a pointed request for them not to. I had breakfast with a friend, who is also a chef may I add, and I have driven by this place alot BUT never had the time to dine in/out!! So I dined in about a week ago. The butter was not to sweet!! and paired well with the waffle dusted lightly with powerdred sugar served with 3 pieces of bacon and not much can go wrong with bacon except for if the brand is gross, BUT the bacon was good 2 thick slices and brown scrambled eggs not organic but I did like that they were brown and they only prepare the eggs scrambled .I wanted them over hard BUT it was not the end of the world scrambled as served and their eggs come with cheese standard, I failed to read the menu it does say cheesy eggs! My company had the breakfast chili house made vegetarian, although we are not vegatarian I find that vegatarian dishes can be tasty. Topped with arugula, cheddar, dill dressing and scrambled eggs!! The dish was enjoyable and filling for a small bowl.9 I ordered a mocha to go good as any mocha and the cashier because you pay and then seat yourself and hour food is brought out to you. The cashier was friendly!! There are plenty of house plants towards the back and seating is an intimate and close squeeze but nice good enviroment. I came here for brunch and the spot was really cute and small. They share the space with a floral shop. I've ordered the Elvis Belgium waffles which is just a Belgium waffle with peanut butter and bananas. The syrup was so tasty!! And also ordered the hot chocolate steamer. Which was pretty tasty!! It tasted like real hot chocolate. I personally wished they didn't give me so much peanut butter but that's my mistake, I should've asked them to give me a little, and to also not make my waffles so toasted. Awesome place for takeout! Can waffles really stay warm and good when you have to drive them home first? I was truly skeptical. Well, yes they can! The containers are always so thoughtfully wrapped. I am able to "assemble" my waffle and whipped cream at home from the packaging with no mess. Wonderful vibes! Very friendly, and attentive staff! They seemed to work in harmony, which makes my ordering process fast and smooth. Delicious food! When I ask please for the bacon to be crispy, it actually is! (Surprising how many times this doesn't happen with other places). I love that the "toppings" are just part of the waffle. Simple...yet delicious! Got my food to go - Belgian waffle with some sort of apple cinnamon butter mixture, cheesy scrambled eggs, and 3 pieces of bacon. Everything tasted good and was cooked well. For my preference, the bacon could have been a little crisper but I like very crispy bacon and I know not everyone does. The eggs were seasoned appropriately and had just the right amount of cheese. The waffle was crispy on the outside and fluffy on the inside, as it should be. The apple cinnamon butter stuff is really great and goes well with the syrup provided. Went here based on a quick glance at the ratings here on yelp. Took forever to get our food, like 50 minutes. With the prices which were high I expected better everything. The waffles were bland and no crisp, barely warm. We paid almost $5 for two tiny pieces of bacon. The hasbrowns were good though. The only thing the customer doesn't do is prepare the food! As this was my first visit we stood at the door when we entered. A staff member walked up to us, stopped and said, "excuse me". I moved to the side and said, oh, I thought you were coming to seat us. She did not respond. Another staff person said grab menus and seat yourself. It is weird to pay for food and tip before service unless it is carry out, but oh well.The menu is appetizing and our party of 3 ordered 2 americanos, hot chocolate, the salmon sandwich, bacon waffle, and waffle with lemon curd. The salmon sandwich was delivered with no salmon, one americano was served and I had to ask for the second, and water service is self serve in Tupperware pitchers. No regular coffee refills on the Americanos that were served in tiny mugs. The bread on the sandwich was yummy; the waffle with lemon curd was good; the bacon waffle was okay. I don't think this is my kind of place however, the food is solid. They just need to make sure people know what the rules are. read more

We liked this place for many reasons: The ambiance. Kind of retro and fun. The coffee comes in cute unique mugs. The chairs are like from the 50's. Fun! The food was pretty good! We got a regular waffle and breakfast chili. The waffle was good but not the greatest I've ever had. I want to try their other ones. The chili I'd definitely do again. Who thought to put eggs in chili!? I don't know but it's a good idea! The prices are a little on the high end in my opinion. There also was only one person working, so she was taking orders, making the food and drinks, and taking it out to the tables. So service was a little slow but she was doing her best! I've walked by this place so many times and decided to give it a try. After gorging myself this holiday season a nice salad seemed like the best option. It definitely did not. On a bed of arugula sits pickled onions and scrambled eggs with some bacon. All delicious and somehow worked itself together nicely. My hubby had the morning hamwich. I couldn't even snap a proper photo because he refused to put it down. The menu has a lot more to offer, especially their waffles. They have regular, vegan, and paleo options - which you don't come by very frequently. I think that's pretty cool. I can't wait to come back and try those. This place is always busy. We came in this morning for a coffee and there weren't any open seats, this is mega promising for a Wednesday morning. We had walked around for a bit and no other places were as busy as them. There was one person manning the register and making coffee and another person making all the food. We ordered the chai and a latte and I wasn't particularly impressed with either. Girlfriend loved the latte though. I think what gave Admiral Bird 3 stars is the fact that we paid $9 for two 8oz drinks. It was just expensive but I guess it being West Seattle, I shouldn't be too surprised. Most places charge .50 for milk substitutes not .75 I dunno, I didn't pick to be lactose intolerant! If I could get away with drinking regular milk, I probably would have given this place 4 stars. We loved the flower shop inside and the trinkets that were on sale. This is definitely a local hangout and I'd be up for trying a waffle next time. read more

This was our "give me a break" moment at BeBop Waffle Shop in West Seattle. The place is tiny and crowded, and the ordering system is frustratingly slow. When people are waiting online to order, it's impossible to get past the front door--there just isn't room to pass. Almost all the tables, maybe five or six, are four-tops, which are typically shared by two separate parties of two. You pay first, which means you also have to tip first, well before you know what the service is going to be like. (Spoiler: they bring you your food. That's it. Not water, sugar, or anything else; no one checks back with you after the food comes. Ever.) We sat next to another couple. They had napkins and syrup; we didn't. When our food came, we asked for syrup for our waffles. "You're at a four-top," said the food porter (by no means a waitress), "so you'll have to share condiments. I'm so sorry." Reader, she wasn't sorry. I was sorry. I was sorry that we'd just paid $43 for waffles and coffee, and she couldn't bring us another freaking container of syrup so we didn't have to ask strangers to hand over theirs. I know. I should have made a fuss, but by now we're all terrified of being labeled "Karen" (gender is no object) even when we're paying money that we've worked hard for and are being treated unreasonably by people whose job is to provide a good or service. We've been cowed into not being "mean to the help," even when the "help" is incompetent or indifferent. But I'm turning over a new leaf today. Call me Karen all you want. This b.s. about having to be thankful for--and tip for--lousy service has to come to an end. I'm not taking it anymore--and I'll never be back to BeBop and their "so sorry" servers.
