On late Friday morning, we popped in this restaurant for an early lunch! This restaurant is located in an interesting place: it's within the heart of old town Scottsdale down a pseudo alley way next to a coffee shop. A little challenging to find at first, but you'll be rewarded with a non touristy restaurant to relax at! The restaurant offers all day affair, including brunch! We had their famous Cobb salad and a hamburger! The Cobb salad was different! It comes to the table displayed nice and your waiter will add dressing and toss it for you! The salad features lox, corn that tastes like popcorn, currants, greens and more with buttermilk dressing. It's not a huge salad but filling. I would prefer the salad had salmon filet rather than lox: it's a taste and appearance thing. As for hamburger, it was also perfectly presented! The flavors were spot on! My only compliant is that for approximately 20 dollars the burger should come with something like fries or a side salad! Also, I had a seasonal latte: pumpkin! The latte was amazing! The balance of flavors was excellent: I wanted more! As for seating: there is a small indoor space that offers sit down tables and bar seating. I come here strictly for the Lucky 7 Cereal Bowl. It is truly the most amazingly complex "simple" dish I have ever had. The cool sweetness from the chia pudding paired with the warm salty, buttery goodness of the grits makes the best combination that you wouldn't think would work but it does! I love the banana chip bits inside the chia too. I tend to order anything on the menu that also comes with the blue corn grits because they are that good and the dill pickle salad because I love pickles, it's huge and flavorful, and I also love that there are potato chips on top instead of croutons or some other wheat based product. I've enjoyed all their seasonal coffees and opt to sit on the patio if not too hot. read more

This was our favorite restaurant and we were really excited to take family here. The grits we ordered came out really soupy and did not taste normal. Then we got our entrees and our chopped salad had a large clump of hair in it. It was disgusting. The server apologized and replaced it but it ruined everyone's meal. Our server did not acknowledge it again in any way and avoided us after that, checking in with other tables but not ours. They did not comp or discount our bill in anyway. Very cute / intimate spot in Old Town Scottsdale. We were hungry / in the area so decided to check it out. Their salad was amazing! We had two younger kids (4 and 6) that really enjoyed the Mac and Cheese (ordered from the appetizer menu). I wish they had a kids menu or could make an entree size portion for the kids (pasta and cheese sauce). We ended up spending quite a bit on Mac and Cheese but the kids enjoyed it and told the chef it was yummy :) For our entree I had a pork dish and wifey had the streak (will leave some photos). Came here for brunch with a friend after a grueling workout class so we were hungry and ready to eat! We started off with the hummus plate which had a yummy array of veggies and a great tzatziki sauce. The seasonal latte right now is delicious I definitely recommend that over the mesquite. Their special was chilaquiles so I had to get it. The flavor was amazing and the chips had a nice crisp to them. My friend chose the breakfast sandwich and we were big fans of that too but would probably opt to try something new next time in its place. Brunching like a PRO at Beginner's Luck. We were looking for a place to eat breakfast in Old Town Scottsdale and found Beginner's Luck (how cool of a name is that). We had a great time. We ordered Lucky's Burger with home fries and the 12 Hour Niman Pork Ranch Bowl. I don't know what the term Niman means that I have to google it (enriching my vocabulary!). The Lucky's Burger, with angus beef sandwiched in a brioche bun, was just the right amount of juicy and cooked to order and was perfectly complemented by the home fries. For the 12 Hour Niman Pork Ranch Bowl, I can say it was a standout, with tender pork, loaded with pork crackling/chicharron, queso fresco, jalapeno, lime, pickled onion and garnished with cilantro--that made it rich and satisfying. Beginner's Luck has an open-concept kitchen. Service was good. They have an outdoor seating that allows you to enjoy the weather while savoring your meal. We had reservations at 6:30 and arrived slightly before. We were seated in an area where every time the waitstaff walked by on the boardwalk, we got bounced in our chairs. Speaking of chairs, they have the most uncomfortable chairs! If you are thin like me, bring a stadium pillow to sit on! My hubby was also squeezed up against a plant at the entrance. There were four of us plus a baby in a stroller, which we had to wedge in between our table and the one next to us. The baby had the best experience as she slept through the meal! We came for the restaurant week menu, which resulted in a lot of food. The chopped salad was very good, and I can highly recommend it. Next, came the crab and shrimp roll, but it was seriously too dry and not as tasty as it should have been. In fact, there really was a lack of taste. Lastly, I had high expectations regarding the raspberry cake from other reviewers, but it also was very dry. Taste was ok but the cake was way too dry, not moist at all. It wasn't even in that cute little mug! I did have a taste of the chia pudding cereal (not sure of the proper name), and that had great flavor. I would definitely opt for that over the raspberry cake unless the chef just had an off night and overcooked the cake. I did think the zero proof drink, All the Good Thangs was excellent. Really adored Beginner's Luck and I want to go back and try all the things! I loved that the French Toast wasn't too sweet and was a perfect size to share. The burger was really tasty - particularly the chili sauce. My personal favorites of what we tried were the burrata and the shakshouka. The burrata dish was sooo light, refreshing, and unique. I LOVED it sm! The shakshouka had really great flavor, although I wish the eggs were runny. That said, this place is super cute. I'd go back for the location alone. The patio outside was really nice, and when the weather cools down you can definitely catch me there . Service was good! I liked that they let us take our time and catch up. We had two servers and both were helpful in deciding what we should order from the menu. Speaking of the menu - they have a lot of different options compared to your average brunch spot. This hidden gem was great! My friend and I came here on a recommendation for Restaurant week. I had made reservations for 2, dinner at 6:30 inside. When we arrived, we were greeted and seated. The indoor seating was very small, but it does have some bar seating along with a nice patio. The atmosphere was very sleek simple modern with a lot of local artwork. Maddie, our server came over, introduced herself, very nice, friendly and attentive. We ordered the Chile Margaritas, which were fantastic. This is a can't-miss dish and likely why they carried it over to their new restaurant Sausage & Aligot - elevated bangers+mash. This could likely be an entree for some people Lucky Burger - perfectly cooked. Cucumbers in yogurt on the side was unique but refreshing for a hot day Midnight Cereal - breakfast as dessert. I would eat this any day at any time Raspberry Cake - I thought this was delicious, but others in our group thought it was dry. I'm SOLD!!! Service, food, and location were all on point as I had a business meeting. I recently read that the chef/owners of the Gladly & Citizen Public House were responsible and those 2 hit well for me. Located off Main Street, the spot is "nestled" in the strip like a T with indoor and outdoor seating. I'm not gonna lie, sitting outside after noon as we go into the summer is not my ideal comfort but plenty of people were sitting outside today under the many umbrellas. I made a reservation online to make sure we were seated inside and it worked out great. Inside has a few tables to accommodate parties of 2 & 4 along with bar seating. We had 12 hour Pork Bowl, Lucky Burger with fries, Topo Chico & Chile Margarita. Food was spot on and our server Kaia was tended to us while we chatted about life & business. A great find. We were in Scottsdale for a 10:00am meeting on a Sunday morning, but arrived too early. So we found Beginner's Luck on Yelp only because it was close by our appointment location. Really glad we did. It's a cool place. Very casual, very nice, very clean and a neat atmosphere. We were looking at the menu when the barista suggested a breakfast burrito special for the day. It not only sounded great from the description, but it tasted great, too! It was big in size so we split it. Very very hardy, very tasty and great presentation. Their iced tea has a very citrus fruity flavor without adding a lemon or orange. Just overall a really great experience and they got us in-and-out in not time, so we made our 10:00am right on time. PS: No doubt about it. The area is a completely different experience at 9:30am in the morning. No crowds, not lines, not noisy and just a general overall experience. The cereal bowl is so delicious and very unique. It's a bowl split in half by two different cereals, with amazing granola on top. We cleaned the plate! With a party of six, we got lots of things on the menu and everyone loved their dishes. I also got the cinnamon mocha- which was delicious, and tasty without being too sweet. Do not recommend trying this restaurant, at least not for brunch: maybe the dinner is a lot better but I can't comprehend the James Beard nomination... the buns for the crab roll and the blt were stale and dry (not even buttered and toasted, just toasted), the shashuka had vegetables cut into one inch cubes/squares (kind of hard to dip and enjoy your bread with a giant piece of bell pepper staring at you: you should never have to cut the vegetables in a shashuka), the eggs were overcooked in the shashuka, and the BLT may have some of the worst bacon I've had (sad to say but I'd take Wendy's bacon over theirs). Most redeeming quality is it is a kind of fun space, but even that was ruined by the health code violation they permitted (dog inside, it was a long haired dachshund and definitely not a service animal). But I remember the menu did not appeal to us. The reviews of Beginners Luck looked Good, so we gave it a shot. WOW! IDR the name of my dish, but WOW!!. It had pork, eggs, tortia chips at the bottom that were soaking up a HOT red sauce and queso. My wife got the avacado toast and an order of the house Foccachia bread. Start with the hot triple espresso mocha with oat milk. When i say hot, it's really hot.. which i like. Their iced tea has a kick. The waitress said it's their new thing, it's the peach black iced tea... i tasted it, it's really good. My husband had the steak and egg. I observed that every table orders steak and egg, per my husband, it was really good. Steak was tender. I ordered French toast, kinda sweet for me cuz of the syrup. Everyone here is so nice. We were super excited to try this place after the chef was nominated for the James Beard Award. It's located down this cute walkway right in the middle of Scottsdale. We were able to get reservations the week before on a Saturday night. Unfortunately once we sat down, we waited about 15-20 minutes before we had to wave down a worker to ask for a server to take our drink orders. Which was weird bc the restaurant was barely half full when we arrived and we noticed the waitress that we were supposed to have served other tables that sat down after us almost immediately. But once we did get a server she was apologetic for the wait which we appreciated. We started with the Brussel sprouts which were delicious but quite a small portion for the price. The appetizer came out immediately but we still didn't have our drinks which I didn't like. But I will say the drinks were very good once we got them. We ordered the espresso martini and the all the good things mocktail. For our entrees we ordered the pan roasted salmon and the crab & shrimp roll. Both decent size portions. Salmon had a ton of flavor and was cooked perfectly. The crab & shrimp roll was good and something different. We plan to return again and hope the service will be better.
