Finding restaurants that offer generous portions for the price you paid is challenging nowadays. With rising food costs and significantly higher restaurant prices, we try to find places where we can get our money's worth when dining out. We decided to try Be Leaf for lunch since we have appointment in the area. Stepping inside the restaurant, we're initially impressed with the layout. It has a sleek and bright ambiance which is uncommon to the dingy Vietnamese restaurants we normally go to. The place has a modern minimalist design with plenty of natural lights which creates an inviting and welcoming dining experience. They have lunch specials but since we came after 3 pm we can't avail of this offer. So we decided to order on the regular menu and tried the following: 1.House Special Pho - large, flavourful beef portions that comes with generous portion of tender rice noodles. The broth is very light yet at the same time so full of flavour. The soup is addictive and every spoonful leaves you wanting for more. 2.Rice Bowl with 2 veggie spring rolls, choice of salad (I chose Mango Shrimp) and a protein (Beef) - I really enjoyed this dish because of the beef. Aside from getting generous portion of the meat, it was sweet and savoury with loads of umami flavour. The beef was very tender and juicy and pairs well with the garlicky rice. The salad is refreshing and bursting with brightness. 3.Vietnamese Coffee (cold) - very strong but not overly sweet beverage. The boldness of the coffee mix with the sweetness of the condensed milk gives it a distinctive and delicious taste. They also give complimentary tea and service was fast and efficient. We were surprised we got our order in 5 mins despite the restaurant having lots of customers. Overall 10/10 dining experience. Can't wait to return back to this restaurant to explore the rest of the menu. read more

Tried BeLeaf for the first time and I was amazed at the price to portion size. The rice was $16.49 and make your own pho was $14.99. For the pho, you could customize any 2 proteins, sodium level, and additional noodles! The space was clean and very inviting! I was lured in by the great google reviews but saw they were offering free drink for those reviews so don't believe everything you read. This is really good Viet PHO. I went here with my Vietnamese friend who insisted everything was authentic and tasted the way her mama made it at home. The fresh spring rolls were amazing, as was the PHO. The tea had a cute little candle under it to keep it warm. The only thing that prevented this from being 5 stars was the portion sizes. Yes, this location is near Yonge/College, so its in the more downtown core area of Toronto, however a short TTC or uber away is China Town which has a handful of Viet and other asian restauraunts, where the bang-for-buck portion sizes are a bit better. I came here because of its really high google reviews (though it turns out that they provide free pop for people to review so I'd take the overall rating with a grain of salt). They offer a 5% cash discount though accept credit cards. The restaurant itself has a cute, casual laid back type of atmosphere. It also feels remarkably clean. The service is also excellent - and food comes out quickly. The food itself was fine - I think there are better pho options in GTA, though you get a very large portion of food so it is a solid deal. I've been here twice in the past month and will definitely be coming back! I actually first heard about this spot from soft opening, but hesitated due to some mixed early reviews. I first gave this place a chance on a particularly bad day - I was feeling down in the dumps and simultaneously starving to a point where I felt like I might faint. I walked by and saw they had a lunch special and so I figured I'd go cry into a bowl of pho; the lunch special is for dine-in only. You get a main (depending on daily selection) + drink for $11.49+ which is a steal in the downtown core. The staff who answered my inquiry about whether the lunch special was available for takeout probably noticed I was really cold or not doing too great because when I was seated, she served me warm tea in this beautiful glass mug. I remember looking around wondering if she gave it by mistake and wondering if I'd be charged extra because everyone else had tea pots with paper cups LOL. I was VERY CONFUSED but delighted at the same time. The special on that day was a chicken pho and I chose to upgrade my drink to mango coconut milk. The pho is served in a large bowl; I personally took home leftovers. I wasn't sure if chicken pho would be good but it was! It was a little on the salty side for me. The toppings are already mixed in to the bowl. Condiments and utensils are all available on the table. The mango coconut drink is such a deal because you only pay ~+$1ish more to upgrade the drink selection. It is served in a large tall glass and offers the right amount of sweetness. They have 2 person and 4 person tables. During my visit on a Tuesday, lunch time, it was full. There was 1 table conveniently empty at the time of my visit so I was seated quickly, but others after had to wait. I enjoyed the experience so much that I brought my friends here 2 weeks later. We came here for an early dinner and half of the tables were full; by the time we were leaving, there were people waiting for tables to be seated; I was impressed. They have very friendly and staff and the restaurant has a cozy vibe. They have recently reduced their prices, too. We ordered "Mango Shrimp Salad", "Grilled Pork Rice Paper" and "Grilled Beef Betel Leaf Roll" for appetizers. Beleaf recently updated their menu so I came to check it out. Beleaf it or not, they actually have reduced prices on some items! The staff were very nice and we could choose our table on arrival. You order using the QR code on the table with your phone. They are in the process of producing more of the updated menus but they are not quite ready yet. Drinks: Cocojito - strong lime flavour with hint of Coconut. Very unique, unlike any other drinks I have tried before Mango Coconut Milk Coco Cloud Apps - all were great shareables Mango Shrimp Salad - Large size. Very fresh, do wish there was slightly more mango Pork Spring Roll - Messy but worth it. The pork is seasoned well and the fillings are fresh. The peanut sauce is to die for! If I were to make it myself, I'd full enclose the wrap rather than having the ends stick out for an easier eating experience. Grilled Beef Betel Leaf Roll -rich smoky beef flavour, wrapped in seawood. A good finger food eat.  Mains Latsa - sweet Coconut curry Noodle dish more sweet than spicy. Large serving with a generous amount of protein (incl tofu, beef and eggs). A bit sweet for my personal taste. Grilled Beef Bahn Mi - very generous sized meal. Comes with a full side salad, fries and full sized Bahn Mi. Beef has a rich umami flavour. Very delicious.  House Special Pho - a delightful play on traditional pho, adding tripe and beef ball to the mix. The broth has the perfect amount of salt and the ratio of the meat and noodles rounds out the dish really nicely. I would most definitely order this again! Location/Service This place is located right on Carlton - in the same area with all the condos. There's Green P parking around the block - readily accessible by public transit. Interior is very cafe vibes - low the tone they give, very warm and ambient. Staff were pretty nice - fast with the orders and with general clean up. Food Tried a variety of items - from main dishes to appetizers. Traditional Pho - this was alright to me. The noodles were on the thinner side and shorter as well. It kind of threw me off as I was eating, and the broth was a little on the plain side - definitely had to add in some sauces to kick it off. Tom Yum Chicken Banh Mi - very interesting fusion combo. The bread was soft and overall combination of flavours aligned. It came with a side salad and waffle fries. Sugar Cane Shrimp - one of the best items. I've been meaning to come here since it's affordable and aesthetic. It wasnt busy when I went and we got to pick our own seats. There's not much service other than just bringing the food over. The server was also not clear which food is which (as in we have to ask to clarify what is the fish). You scan the QR code and we just order through the phone. Note that if you come with a group they don't split bills at all. And they also don't accept Amex. If you pay cash there's a 5% discount. I ordered the combo which came with two choice of meats, spring rolls and a salad. I picked grilled beef and grilled pork and they were flavourful. Some parts were a bit fatty in my opinion and they didn't skimp out tho. However, my brother ordered the same combo and meat as me but it was a lot skimpier portion than mines. The inconsistency is not good. For my salad, I picked the mango shrimp salad. But...when the server handed me my food I notice there was no shrimp at all. I had to flag them to get me the shrimp (they just gave me a new one). The salad was drenched in sweet chilli sauce and I noticed some of the greens were very old and soggy (not edible at all). The vermicelli was also very hard and should've been cooked a bit longer. It wasn't pleasant to eat, so I would recommend getting the rice instead. The spring rolls that came with the combo were just a frozen vegetarian curry spring roll that you can get from the supermarket . The fish sauce was literally just sweet chilli sauce mixed with a some sort of liquid. It's not the typical fish sauce that you get from traditional Vietnamese restaurants. My sister got the laksa noodle and the taste was mild and not very flavourful. You can tell from the broth that they did not put that much coconut cream, from the top there's some oil but as you skim it out and drink the broth you can tell it's not creamy. The egg seemed like it was over boiled and by the time she finished the meal the egg looked kinda wrinkly. The beef was supposed to be rare and it was very tough to chew. Overall, it's a one and done for me. I would not come back again as there's better authentic Vietnamese restaurants in Toronto. This is a new Vietnamese restaurant in downtown Toronto. It soft-opened on 2023-11-25 and grand-opened on 2023-12-23. Each table gets a glass tea pot that is kept warm with a candle underneath. The service was good. The Grilled Beef Banh MI ($15.99) had so much beef in it! Well worth it. Yes, it was delicious. It also comes with a green salad, waffle fries, potato wedges, and salad dressing. One issue: They mayonnaise is put at the bottom of the Banh MI and when you pour the salad dressing, it will drain to the bottom of the plate, so both factors make the banh mi bread soggy at the bottom. We also ordered from the kids' menu ($10.99). We chose Grilled Chicken, Jasmine Rice, and Pineapple Juice. It automatically comes with a Vietnamese Vegan Spring Roll and Green Salad. The chicken was tender and tasty. For dessert, we ordered Ice Cream ($3.99). It comes with 2 scoops, so we got Chocolate and Mango. There are many tables for indoor dining. The interior is bright and elegantly and tastefully decorated. Monday 7:30pm I was too tired to walk anywhere far from my hotel after loads of meetings . Luckily I'm surrounded by highly rated casual Asian restaurants. I chose Vietnamese because of the Pho and the thought of sipping some nice broth on a cold day . I quickly changed my mind after seeing the menu. I was so torn as there were so many good options - do I order a bahn mi ( they have 4 types ), pho ( as originally planned ), spring rolls ( with its nice crispy deep fried skin) or my favorite grilled porkchop . Well luckily they have a plate with a salad ( I had the spicy chicken ), rice vermicelli with the super delicious well seasoned porkchop and eggroll ( not the spring rolls but it's ok ). I can hardly finish the plate but ate all the porkchop . I paid $25 ( usd) including gratuity for that meal ! I was served hot tea by an ever friendly staff . This is a relatively new Viet restaurant on Carlton St. Walked by a few times on route to Loblaws and didn't think much of it until it started popping up on my IG feed. Decided to give it a shot partly because of the positive Yelp reviews. The restaurant was pretty busy on a week night. The place looked very clean and inviting. The server was attentive and also asked about our day! They also had tea lights to keep the tea warm (which is always a plus). However, the food was pretty standard. IMHO, it's nothing to write home. Tried a bit of everything on the menu. My favourite was the grilled beef in betel leaf. The bun rieu wasn't bad either. I found the soup base a little on the sweet side, never had Vietnamese soup dishes being sweet so was slightly off putting. It was a great experience pho us! We went for a House Special Pho and Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi. We loved it. House Special Pho - the broth was clear but rich, with rare beef, brisket, beef shank, tripe and beef ball. Lemongrass Chicken Banh Mi - this thing is loaded. The pickles had the perfect tang, which I loved, and I enjoyed every bite, though the mayo and hoisin sauce were a bit overpowering for the lemongrass flavour. To start off with some positive thoughts, the service and ambience of the restaurant were good -- The staff were friendly and the interior was clean and cute. Maybe I came at the wrong time, but the pho that I ordered tasted a bit watery. The broth didn't have much flavor. The other ingredients also didn't play well together like most other pho -- the noodles, the vegetables, meats all just felt like they were thrown in there and played separately... and I think a lot of it has to do with the broth and how it didn't tie the ingredients together. I got the: - A2: Spring roll (pork) $8.99 - P1: House special Pho $16.99 The spring rolls were decent, fried well and the taste was good. The pho was incredibly bland however. I think they must have forgot to add salt to the broth. It's good if you're looking for a "clean" or unflavored type pho though. I'm not sure if that's why fish sauce is given on the side for the pho, but the soup had very little if no salt in it. The meats in the pho seem fresh and high quality however. The ambiance inside is nice. It's clean and bright. The service was okay. It took quite a while to get served but when it was less busy it was fine. My first experience wasn't that great with warm broth that didn't even cook my raw meat. I told the server and they took out the meat, cooked it and the put it back in the same warm broth. However, I give it a 3 star because my second time was better where the broth was hot enough. Food tastes good but pretty pricey for their portion compared to other Phô restaurants. Over it's decent, new and clean. For the area there about 3 Phô restaurants and I recommend this out of the other two. read more

The beef pho is also loaded with plenty of beef, making it quite filling. The chicken wings have a good flavor as well. Excellent food that won't make you feel guilty for eating out. Got the set meal with shrimp and mango salad, vermicelli, and grilled chicken and pork. For those that want to avoid too much carbs, don't worry because underneath the vermicelli are lots of very fresh greens! Very tender meat and the lemongrass is evident but not overpowering. We got takeout from this newly opened Vietnamese restaurant. The inside is newly renovated and looks clean and bright. We ordered 2 phos and a smoothie to take away by phone. A new and needed addition in the area for a decent pho or very good bettel leaf beef rolls. New, clean and kind service; still a limited menu and only one size of pho, but basics are there. My pho was maybe a 3.5 but otherwise good items. Noodles are fresh. Broth is on the dark brown side and weirdly with some sort of coconut oil deep-layered taste and texture.
