Genuine local restaurant with homecooked food. So much better than all the fast food places which are almost the only choice in Tallahassee. Daily specials are always changing and posted on a big blackboard wall at the entrance. The owner is usually at the entrance with waiting with a smile and the service is excellent. The place is always full but they are always able to find a table for you even if it's after a short wait. And the French Onion Soup that comes with every entrée is alone worth going for. I do think the dinner entree menu is over priced so I don't eat dinner here but I do come for appetizers, drinks and dessert. 5 Coconut Shrimp for $8.00 is also way over priced for an appetizer. I have tried a few different craft cocktails off the menu and have enjoyed them all. A bottle of wine is great here too. I love the side car since they make it with Dusse. First, our server Allison was OUTSTANDING! She has such positive energy and you can tell she loves people. Half way through we found out she also teaches 3rd grade and based upon her intersection with, she is a favorite teacher of many! Now on to the food! It was so hard to select just one thing off such a great menu and the aroma for the food being prepared was great. Though not the most entertaining selection the Bella Bella salad hit the spot. Loaded with tons of fresh peaches, apples, watermelon and grapes this was the perfect choice for a lighter meal. The vinaigrette dressing was a perfect blend of spices and added to the freshness of the salad! Came here for dinner on a Saturday night, expect a very long wait. We waited about an hour and a half to be seated, but luckily, they let you get drinks from the bar while you wait. I had the passionfruit drink which was delicious. My only gripe is that they don't take reservations, and also that their waitlist is all done by hand. It would be so much more convenient if they had a texting system like many other places do where they can just notify you on your phone that your table is ready. Saves us the anxiety of fearing that we missed hearing our name called, we were waiting sort of away from the restaurant outside (there was also not enough seating to accommodate everyone waiting.) Luckily the wait was worth the food. I had the grouper special with risotto which was absolutely delicious. I sampled bites from everyone elses entrees and enjoyed each one. Fettucini alfredo, eggplant rollitini, beer cheese soup, it was all very delicious. I did ask our waitress to put together a birthday surprise for my sister in law which was forgotten so that was a little disappointing. I've been coming here for over four years. There food is excellent, my husband and I usually get the bubble bread for an appetizer. The bartenders make an excellent old fashioned. The service is awesome and the pictures which line the wall are adorable. The lights aren't real bright but you can see the people in front of you. read more

According to every Tallahassean I have met since moving here, Bella Bella is a must visit. It was good, but not quite as good as I had hoped it to be. The positives I experienced: -Conveniently located in Midtown (and also near where I reside); -Reasonably priced glasses of wine; -Good service (while sat at the bar); -And of course, the Bubble Bread. My experienced setbacks: -Pasta is not made fresh by Bella Bella (although I was informed that the lasagna is assembled in-house, daily, for what it's worth) -I felt the entree menu to be somewhat limited; -The tomato sauce served with the Bubble Bread was way too tangy; -After learning that the ravioli would be served in the way-too-tangy tomato sauce, I asked if it could be served in the cream sauce, and the bartender happily accommodated my request. Overall, the food was incredibly underwhelming; the ravioli tasted as though it had been frozen, and the cream sauce was just subpar compared to what I can whip up at home. I really do like the atmosphere of Bella Bella and will probably return to dine with family, and give another appetizer/entree a chance. read more

Another hidden gem found in Tallahassee. I absolutely love Italian food! I loved the ambience of the restaurant as soon as I walked in. Each table had small candles lit. The smell of fresh baked bread spread throughout the entire restaurant. I ordered the bread basket and the bread was hot and fresh! I also ordered the Caesar salad and it was very refreshing. There were a lot of people here but I didn't have to wait too long for a table. My server was Allison. She went above and beyond for my table! How did it take me so long to get here? I used to live here and it was while I was visiting for a weekend that I chose this as a place to eat dinner one night. Shame on me! I ordered the shrimp scampi & French onion soup (to-go). The meal came with a side of bread & butter. There was a good ratio of shrimp to pasta. The sauce wasn't overly buttery or garlicy - literally the perfect amount of both. The bottom wasn't oily or any residue left over, & that's a big win in my book, especially for scampi. I ate the whole thing in one sitting. It was too good not to! The shrimp were cooked fine and a decent size - not jumbo but at least not tiny. The French onion soup was mediocre. I've had better but at least it wasn't overly salty or too much onions, etc. It might be worth a try if your a French onion soup fan, like myself, & it might be up your alley! Total came out to around $25, which is to be expected for shrimp scampi / French onion soup type meals, IMO. read more

Don't let the Monroe street-side appearance detour you. This is a very nice and delicious place! And there is ample parking around back, near the entrance on the side (5th St). Very nice casual restaurant with a hint of elegance. Super nice staff as well. The menu looked good but what jumped out at me were the specials. I jumped at the thought of grouper on a bed of lemon spinach risotto. It sounded so good we both ordered it! The entrees come with a soup or salad. I went with the house salad. I am not a fan of fruit or nuts on my salads, which it had both. But to my surprise, it tasted great. The fish was perfect! On the meaty side, so it was a filling meal. The risotto was cooked to perfection! Honestly it was so good I could have ate twice as much. That being said, the dish portion was just right. I will definitely return. Great taste of Italian food in the heart of Tallahassee. It wasn't too busy when we went so we were served quite quickly. We ordered the stuffed mushrooms ($8) which were basically stuffed with different types of cheeses and baked until bubbly. It was good, but not super amazing. The bubble bread ($8) was great, but it did kind of taste like garlic toast with mozzarella on top. Then, as an entrée, we shared the Capellini Marinara ($15) - angel hair pasta tossed with housemade marinara sauce made with Italian San Marzano tomatoes with fresh basil and garlic. It was a simple dish that was well executed and tasted better than I expected. On another day, I had the Eggplant Rollatini ($18) which was delicious and came with angel hair pasta/sauce on the side. I also had a chocolate mint crème brulee (rotating flavors), which was delicious. I usually go for the crazy sounding dishes on a menu, but I'm glad I decided to stick to the basics this time around. This restaurant is one of my daughter's favorite places to eat. I had been looking forward to trying it and this past Mother's Day weekend was a great opportunity to do so. We decided to do dinner at Bella Bella before attending a Tallahassee Ballet performance. I was certainly not disappointed with this choice. We were warmly greeted immediately upon entering; we chose to dine on the patio; lovely setting and the weather was beautiful! Aside from a pesky fly that seemed to have been drawn to my daughter's wine glass and another patron who we hoped was coughing due to allergies, we enjoyed the atmosphere. And the meal was delicious! We started out with the famous bubble bread that my daughter always raves about - and with good cause; the bread was simply delicious! My daughter ordered the manicotti, with grilled chicken. I had the day's special which was pan-seared grouper over risotto and spinach. OMG, so good! Seasoned just right! All entrees come with salad, and we chose the Ceasar, which was perfectly prepared (fresh crotons, just the right amount of tasty dressing, and shaved parmesan on top). Of note, we observed another table's server put his fingers on the cheese he was serving from the bowl to place on their food. They didn't seem to mind, which was fine with us since he wasn't our server! All in all, an enjoyable experience, and I will certainly return and try other entrees. read more
