As I leave the restaurant, I would like to share my worst experience. We just ordered two dishes, a lamb burger and turkey meatball quinoa pasta. HORRENDOUS! the pasta was broken overcooked to an extent that it looked like rice. The meatballs were raw. The burger lamb patty smelled and the fries were old and re fried. As soon as we got the food I asked the server whether the fries are fresh! N he lied. Anyone can make a difference between fresh and old fries. This is a consistent go-to spot for me. The food is high quality, it tastes great, and it's very reasonably priced for the value. They use local ingredients and incorporate a lot of organic low-gluten food. There are many great items on the menu. The blackened shrimp salad is probably the best salad there but the other ones are pretty tasty also, including the kale caesar and goat cheese salad. You have to try the hempenadas!!! A friend treated me to dinner here about six weeks back. I'd driven past it before, but until then, I'd never gone inside. The atmosphere is cozy, but during peak times, it can get pretty crowded. I was on nanny duty, and my friend treated "my" three kiddos, the kids' uncle, and me to dinner, so we had a decent-sized group. Parking was a pain, but I chalked that up to a negative side effect of going during peak hours. Ruggles is definitely on the casual side--you order at the counter when you walk in, and they give you a number and bring your order to the table when it's ready. Okay, I can dig it. We placed our orders, hunted for a table big enough to seat all six of us--which we found on the outdoor patio. I like the fact that this is an organic food restaurant, although I kept my order simple and got a turkey burger and fries. You can taste the difference in their fries--definitely fresh cut in house, and I like that. And I really like the fact that their drink choices are made without high fructose corn syrup. The kiddos decided they all wanted spaghetti for dinner, and it wasn't bad. Had a little bit of spice/tang to it, which gave it some kick. Even the kids liked it, and they all have a habit of refusing to eat something they believe is even remotely spicy. Overall, the experience wasn't bad. I enjoyed the theme of this restaurant... they have an awesome light sculpture in the center of the restaurant made out of hundreds of light bulbs... it's really awesome. I visited Bellagreen on Sunday and have visited multiple times, food has always been phenomenal. However, this day I was disappointed with my food. I ordered the avocado BLT, such a disappointment, clearly was given a child's plate. The "tiny sandwich" was served on the tiniest baguette ever! Tons of lettuce, thumbs down to that, minimal bacon and barely visible avocado. This wont detour me from another visit, I just wont order this ever again. I left hungry, so sad. Many have told me to visit Ruggles Green and after a year of saying, "it's on my list" I actually made it. Best of luck to you if you want to park in the R.G. parking lot, I squeezed in next to a dumpster and an SUV. There may be 8-10 spots in total in the lot and one is for an electric car that needs to be plugged in. I ordered the Blackened Shrimp and my friend got the Honey Fried, Goat Cheese Arugula Salad. Both delicious and refreshing and just what we needed after a weekend of eating poorly due to an extended Birthday celebration. Thank you Ruggles Green for picking us back up and onto our feet to get our nutrition squared away. We were both skeptical about the cost of the salads thinking that we were paying more than what would arrive on our plate and we were WRONG. That plate was loaded sky-high with delicious veggies. I have always enjoyed the different Ruggles around town, but have never really thought they were great. This, however, is a great new addition to the Heights. A completely remodeled 11 St Cafe, and I could not be happier with the change. Walking in, the registers are on the left, pick up the menu right in front, low and high top granite tables spread around. A large mirror/window towards the back, and a great small patio bordering the 11st side. Very open and bright inside, and it is hard to get a better patio in the Heights. For being brand new, the place is certainly busy, but not overly packed during lunch. It is great that they do their "green" thing...organic and locally sourced foods, an extensive recycling program, etc. Though, for me the only thing that really counts is the food and service. The people at the register are happy to answer questions, give recommendations, or take requests on different items. You get a number, and find a seat. The kitchen seems on top of everything, with new plates always coming out. This place is obviously ready, no opening week jitters as far as I can tell. A good mix of pastas, salads, sandwiches, burgers, and wood fired pizzas. I had the Cuban Sandwich. The pork was very good, but what made the sandwich was the awesome and fresh mozzarella and savory peach chipotle dressing. Along with great sweet potato fries. Some different Katz iced teas that are great as well. The pizzas look really good, and I always enjoy the curry chicken salad at other locations. Another great spot in the Heights. I will be coming here more often, and probably my favorite location so far. read more

This place has done a 180 from the previous 11th st cafe. Interior is nice/new, staff is helpful and friendly, food is delicious! I am a vegetarian and I can pretty much request them to make any plate vegan or vegetarian. So far I have had the veggie burger with sweet potato fries and quinoa, artichoke spinach dip, and quinoa mac & cheese. all are incredibly delicious! I was so surprised by how fresh everything tasted. Definitely will be a regular. When I bike or walk there I sit outside, their outdoor seating is nice and comfortable. read more

Came here for Sunday brunch with family and friends. Its a nice place with fast and friendly service. They have a great breakfast menu with lots to choose from. We had the french toast, pancakes, eggs, potatoes and coffee. All the food was really good. The lack of the one star is that they did not get the order correct. The food and service made up for that. They also have patio seating which is nice. Parking is limited. Its a nice family friendly restaurant. I would come back if I was in the area. read more

After two disappointing experiences at the short-lived Ruggles 11th St Cafe, I was so excited to find out that they'd be closing down and reopening as a brand new (and improved) Ruggles Green. My biggest complaint about the previous two establishments was the lack of parking. I was so pleased to see that they added a new parking lot on the side. Parking was a breeze and I didn't have to search around. Great improvement! The interior looks nothing like the older versions, and instead looks almost identical to the other Ruggles Green locations. They've clearly done a complete remodel. The drill is the same here as it is at the other places- wait in line, grab a number, and get your food dropped off when it's ready. Don't come here expecting 5-star service, because it's just not that kinda place. But hey, you don't have to tip so that's always cool right? The food is just as good as the other locations. I went with my standard goat cheese salad, which I always find memorable. The creaminess of the goat cheese can almost stand as a dressing on its own. Everything about this salad is perfection! I'm so pleased that Ruggles Green took over and I have this new location right near my house. I'll definitely be back! read more

I'll always have a soft spot in my heart for Ruggles Green since it was my first "local" restaurant that I ate at in Houston (except it was at the West Alabama location, back when it didn't have several stores). Parking here is WAY easier than the aforementioned location, but the space is just ever-so-slightly smaller - I've never had an issue with grabbing a table here, though. My favorite phrase, "manage your expectations," is completely applicable to dining here. I've decided that Ruggles Green is upscale fast food, not casual sit-down - this is one of the few places where I don't mind sitting by myself to eat, especially since there's no formal bar area. Service is virtually nonexistent, except for when you order your food. Most recently, I ordered the crab and shrimp quinoa pasta. It's creamy, hearty, and delicious, which is another thing you have to keep in mind when eating here - not everything is healthy for you (well, it's good for your soul...)!!! And as with any Ruggles restaurant, the desserts are always an excellent option. Domino Cake is generally my go-to, but the Charlotte's Web is pretty good, too. I totally understand why some of the reviews are knocking the price for what you get, but think of how Ruggles Green portrays itself: one with earth, using organic ingredients and whatnot. I'm not excusing anything, but perhaps one should be a bit more realistic when you eat at a restaurant that portrays itself as such. read more

Healthy yet delicious food at a reasonable cost with a solid venue - you can't ask for much more than that! Ruggles is the best, and now that I've finally been I'm so disappointed the one in the Village was closed down. The inside of this location is cute and comfortable but not anything special, so we sat outside. The patio seating was really lovely; pretty basic setup but once it got a little dark outside they turned some lights and candles on and it was really nice. I ordered the veggie nut burger and honestly I think it was the best veggie burger I've ever had. I asked the hostess for her recommendation on which cheese and bun to get and she was really friendly. She told me to try the mozzarella cheese, which I don't think I would have ordered on my own, and it was the best decision ever. I got the quinoa salad as my side, and it was equally as incredible. I was stuffed after my meal, but we split the chocolate crème brulee cheesecake and even though I was super full, I couldn't resist eating several bites because it was so so good. It was the perfect blend of chocolate, cheesecake and caramel flavor, it just melts in your mouth. They drizzled some sort of sauce around the plate that just made it even better. I can't wait to go back to Ruggles - I want to try the quinoa mac and cheese (saw someone at another table eating it and it looked delicious) but I don't know if I'll be able to resist ordering that veggie burger again! read more

Told the girl at the front that I was severely allergic to egg and asked if the key lime pie had egg and she assured me it didn't. Not only did the key like pie have egg but so did the entree I ordered and she failed to inform me of that as well even after telling her I am SEVERLY ALLEGRIC!! After realizing my entree had egg I exchanged it and got a little sick but felt ok. Took the key lime pie home only to get extremely sick after taking a bite and realizing t does contain egg! Allergies are serious and this establishment doesn't seem to care about its customers enough to even check if their order has something that can KILL them! I will never come back here and I suggest if you suffer from severe food allergies you stay away because these people obviously don't know what their food contains. read more

As one of the greenest buildings in the world, the restaurant is awesome. The former 11th Street Cafe underwent extensive renovations for about a year and half before reopening as Ruggles Green. They have solar power, LED lighting, recycling, electric and water conservation program, and, of course, vegan/vegetarian options using local ingredients when possible. However, you're probably most concerned with the food. It's counter service. Grab a menu or pull up the pdf on your smartphone and decide what you want. Then, get in line to place your order. They have a variety of appetizers, salads, soups, sandwiches, burgers, pasta, pizza, and desserts. I've tried the fish tacos which were delicious. The pepperoni pizza is a thin crust and light, but good. Partner tried the margherita pizza and really liked it; he thought the veggie nut burger was better elsewhere. Inexpensive to moderate prices, but the food is of good quality ingredients. It was BYOB when it first opened, but now serve beer and wine. There is a nice-sized patio. Indoors has 4 tops and booths. There are a couple of parking lots - the one on 11th is bigger and only closed Sundays before 1 pm for the church. The one off Studewood is smaller and harder to get out of because you basically have to back out of the lot onto the street to exit. Some street parking around the intersection, too. read more

This is my favorite Ruggles Green location. The atmosphere is a bit calmer and more laid-back than the other two I've visited (I've yet to go to the Sugar Land location) The prices are always a bit too high at Ruggles Green but I enjoy the food for the most part. I love the Spinach salad with bacon, queso fresco, and bacon vinaigrette. Adding chicken will set you back $4, but it's a HUGE chicken breast. The veggie nut burger (a patty made of vegetables, almonds, corn, and hummus) is another winner and a different take on the traditional soy or black bean burger The parking is a bit confusing and it can be a bit tight but it was still easier to deal with this parking than the CityCentre mess. read more

I've been a fan of Ruggles Green for far too long so I am surprised I haven't written a review...or maybe I just haven't written a review for this location. I remember when there was another restaurant here before Ruggles Green and it was horrible so I was very happy Ruggles Green has taken over. This menu is very much like the other menus. Exact same, actually. We went around brunch time and I could not decide if I wanted breakfast or lunch. The breakfast menu had some great options: strawberry waffle, omelet, eggs and sausage, etc. I opted for lunch. I've had the salads before and they were so good but I felt it was too early for salad. i chose the chicken breast sandwich. Very tasty! Nicely sized chicken breast, with swiss cheese, arugula, tomatoes, red onion, and bacon. I picked sweet potato fries for my side but I would have loved to order fruit instead. That wasn't an option and I felt I was holding up the line already trying to decide what I wanted so I just stuck with the sweet potato fries. The fries were pretty good as well. My fiancé got the chicken spinach wrap and it was good. It seemed to have been missing something but I love sautéed spinach so I would probably order this next time. It seemed a little bit on the light side -- I felt my sandwich had too much bread -- so I wouldn't mind ordering this on my next visit. Also, desserts are always delish here. One thing I wish that was different... When I grab the breakfast and lunch menus, I wish I had the ability to see the specials beforehand as well. I got the to the cash register and when I finally decided I was getting lunch, I didn't have time to read the specials that were placed in front of the register. Very big let down. They have a nicely sized blackboard so I would advise management to use that for the specials instead of the sheet of papers in front of the register. I used to be a die hard fan of Ruggle's and their Crab and Shrimp Pasta dish at the old Montrose area location. I moved away from several years and then moved back right around the corner from The Heights location. I have noticed that when it comes to Houston cuisine you can have wildly different experiences at the same restaurant chain, ordering from the same menu at two different locations. I hope that is the case and The Heights location just misses the mark however my experience today was quite sub par. I ordered the same Crab & Shrimp Pasta dish knowing it would be slightly different with the healthier spin they've put on the Ruggle's GREEN locations. I love healthy food so I was totally down. The BAD: *The Quinoa pasta was so overdone that that pasta split apart as soon as it was touched. Within minutes my dish more closely resembled rice in a cream sauce. *I had like 3 shrimp. They were literally the only rewarding part of the dish. *I used to get a pasta dish at the old location sprinkled with lump crab meat on top and I went through this whole dish this time only to find one piece of lump meat. ONE! *Their was too much of the cream sauce in the dish *All the veggie goodness that comes along with this dish was totally raw - jalapenos, various peppers, all crunchy and really off-putting in terms of the textures *Lastly and perhaps most importantly, I am also about 90% sure that my dish was microwaved as it was steaming when it was put down on my table and still steaming about 7 minutes later. It was ready too quickly so that doesn't curb my suspicions at all. THE WORSE: *I paid just over $20 for a few bites of pasta with some of the shrimp and a glass of wine. *I don't normally spend this much on lunch so I decided to make the manager aware that I was unhappy. *He handled the beginning part of the communication okay, going back in the back to show the dish to the Chef. *He then asked me if wanted something else. I told him I wasn't super hungry to begin but begrudgingly requested a $7 salad as a bit of replacement food. *Off my $17 dish went to the kitchen. *I was brought a to-go salad but NOT the extra $10 or so that would have been the difference. *I could understand if I complained after eating the majority of the dish but this was certainly not the case THE JUST: I paid $17 for some pasta bites, a glass of wine and a small side salad that was very, very forgettable. The salad was fine but utterly and completely forgetable. The mayo-heavy Caesar is not exactly fitting with their all too important health theme. The best way to describe the quality of the salad would be to compare it to the likes of a room service salad in a hotel...and I would pay $17 for that basic salad. The difference being I would know going in that that's all I was going to get. I live blocks away but will not be returning as there are much better places to spend the same amount. read more

I just visited for the first time and ordered the brick chicken with the sweet potato mash--believe me when I say that this chicken is MAGIC. the skin is perfectly crispy, perfectly seasoned--I don't know what they put on this stuff, but it is the best baked chicken I have ever had in my life. Bellagreen, move this from the seasonal menu to the permanent menu, please!!! The sweet potato mash was incredible as well. The roasted broccoli left a bit to be desired, but I loved the carrots. This was my first time at this location, and the experience was way more than impressive, I don't know if the business it's usually run like last night but I'm definitely coming back, from the manager to the chefs everyone was with such a great attitude! Cashiers handled the service quick and delightful, I was helped by a young guy that seem to be pretty new to the team, but the cashier next to him and the expo herself helped us with any question and gave great suggestions about the menu, the manager was very polite and around noticing every detail, the pizza chef and salad maker were smiling all around and having really strong communication with kitchen and expos, a very young expo guy came deliver my food and kept checking on us for our dessert, whoever I do happen to notice and got me so excited about visiting soon the way the food runner/expo handled the rush, every food in a short time with respectful communication with kitchen and even though it was busy and there was a lot of orders as appear in the screen of her line and the amount of people in the restaurant she still took the time to listen when I mention that I was celebrating my anniversary with my husband and she took the time to send me a heart shaped appetizer, I loved every single member of this team and the nice way they function I can see the amazing family Bellagreen heights forms. When I heard there was a Ruggles Green in the heights, I was thrilled to hear it was close by where I live. I absolutely love Ruggles Green but tonight's experience left me with a damper. I'll have to re-review for my next experience. The parking lot here is so tiny, it's pretty bad trying to back out of the spot while there's other folks waiting in the streets or if you're waiting coming north on 11th street and trying to turn into the parking lot. You may be better off during peak hours to park on the street. I didnt get much enthusiasm or excitement from the staff or cashier as I usually do for the other locations. Even when it was my friend's first time and the cashier didn't make him feel comfortable asking questions about the menu. If anything, his reactions or responses made my friend feel sheepish for asking the question regarding how they cook their burgers. It's his first time! What I like about the menu is that they offer gluten free, dairy free, veggie options and is labeled next to the menu item. I ended up ordering the veggie tacos asking for the queso fresco and hot sauce on the side. Our appetizer of the hummus came out, my friend's burger came out, and other patrons' meals came out before mine. I had to go back and ask the status of my entree. I think they forgot about my meal. They can't mess up on whipping up 3 simple veggie tacos! Perhaps they missed this because they're not as up to date on their technology like the Ruggles Green location out in CityCentre where they have the electronic pagers associated with your meals. Here, they still follow having numbers on metal stands. After finally receiving mine, they messed up on separating the sides as requested but I didn't want to make a big deal out of it. All which should have been written down on their comment card for the new location. The outside patio is nice and thankfully with the weather not being too humid or hot, it was breezy to sit outside for dinner. As for the review for the food (see my other reviews at the other Ruggles locations for my favs), the veggie tacos with the queso fresco as the sauce was tasty and even though it was only portobello mushrooms and black bean spread, it was still filling. The hummus was ok, the texture was not as creamy as what I am used to. It was hard to dip into the spread with the flatbread without getting a huge chunk. The sweet potato fries tonight were really crunchy, skinny and hard, not the typical sweet potato fries I've had before. On top of it being a new location and them wanting customer feedback, they need to provide pens for those who don't have writing utensils handy or at least put the comment cards/entrey cards at the tables along with pens versus at the cashier register. Who's going to have time to write down their comments/entry cards while being rushed at the counter with a long line of folks waiting? It just doesn't make any sense. read more

A friend introduced me to this place a few weeks back and I've been back one time since the and I can say that the place is pretty good I always park in the back parking lot on 11th street and there is always plenty of parking. The staff is cool...not overtly nice and not rude....just regular. Both times I have been I've ordered the turkey avocado wrap with sweet potato fries and it just hits the spot! Both times I've been, the wrap has been made perfectly and fresh and my sweet potato fries were very fresh and nicely salted. It's A very relaxed atmosphere which I like and I love outdoor seating and theirs is nice and shaded. I have no complaints so far and I will be back to try more of the menu read more

I've been to Ruggles many times and I've never left saying, "Wow! That hit the spot." Never. Truthfully, I just don't think it's that good. I appreciate that they serve a pretty vast menu and they're all healthy-ish? But it's nothing to rave about. I've had the quinoa mac and cheese and that was just bleh. On my most recent visit I had one of their salads, and asked for only spinach instead of lettuce, and they upcharged me like $3? While the salads are large, I think that's an absurd amount to charge for spinach. Especially since a giant bag at sprouts is like $2.75. The salad was just alright. Despite me saying JUST SPINACH, they put arugula in there too. I think the only reason people come here time and time again is for the white chocolate bread pudding. read more

Ruggles Green is our newest BYOB option. My husband had some preconceived notions about it and its taken some persuading to get him to try it, BYOB tipped the scale. The staff is very nice about opening the bottle for you and delivering it to your table with a bucket if needed. The cork fee I believe is $8? There is a parking lot shared with a church next door and it can fill up quickly at peak times. So beware. Its also rather loud inside. Its usually packed with table crammed inside so that makes sense. If you want to have a conversation eat on the covered side porch. The Food: I have not had a bad dish here. There salads are plentiful with green goodness and creative ingredients. I recommend the Chicken Curry salad and the Fried Goat Cheese and Arugula salad. I've had the occasional chicken dish w/the smoked chicken and I love the spice. In fact I've subbed out regular grilled chicken for it on several dishes. One of my favorites is a daily special of ravioli, I've only seen it twice and the second time it was sold out. :( So it is THAT good. I also LOVE their dessert. The Chocolate Creme Brulee Cheesecake is amazing! It is very rich so it works best after a salad. If you order it you should take advantage of the BYOB and have a nice port with it. Perfection. The Pink Velvet Cake is also a good choice it has the same silky feel of red velvet without the red dye taste. Once caveat I have to mention is several times my dishes have been great but my husbands have not been. In particular he tried a meatball dish, It was turkey meatballs and they were terrible (dry and bland). Others at our table got the same thing and did not care for it as well. Incredibly average for a breakfast spot. Most everyone at the table had the breakfast tacos with the black bean spread or an egg sandwich. There wasn't much in terms of alcoholic drinks for brunch that I saw- mimosas only, which were admittedly, quite strong (+1 for the heavy champs pour). Great family atmosphere and nobody seems to mind if you bring your kids. There's limited seating which can be a bit problematic on hotter days but the staff is attentive and clears tables quickly. We went and got two different salads and they were huge. I got the curry chicken salad and my wife got the blackened shrimp salad. Both are chock-full of ingredients and super flavorful. We will definitely be back to Ruggles next time we are in The Heights. read more
