These guys were great. I was shopping around for new rear struts. I used the Yelp request a quote feature and made my own calls. Belle Tire and Royal Auto Care came in around $400-450. I ended up going with Belle Tire for convenience to where I'm living right now. Both were really cool about giving quotes and answering questions. Belle got me in the same day and had me out in about 2hrs. I went over to see the old struts and they were happy to show them to me (including leak on one damper) and talk about struts and stuff. Now here are the other quotes I got, in rough ranges: Choice Quick Lube, $600-650; State Street Auto, Japanese Auto, Pep Boys, Mazur Auto, $700-750; Palmer Auto, $950-1,000. Gotta call around. Also, when you do new struts you may need alignment, as multiple places warned me. I expected Belle to say I needed it, but they said I didn't. Impressed. read more

Had to come here a few months back to get my oil changed specifically because the oil plug was stripped. They were unable to get it opened after a few tries. I told them that I would just take it somewhere else. They said "Let us try one more thing". Miraculously, they were able to get it that time. They said they offered 1 oil change and it was $100.00 for 10,000 miles or 1 year. Okay. They finish in 20 minutes and I'm on my way. I get home and notice that the fan is running very high and loud, after my car has been turned off. This was never the case before I went to Belle Tire. I called them and they assured me that this was not a problem. This sometimes happens and the engine just need to adjust to the oil. The problem never went away. Eventually, the engine started overheating and the heat stopped working. Took the car to a different garage and they said that there was a coolant leak that was caused by "outside force". Also, they showed me that there was transmission fluid all over the engine and the oil looked bad. Belle Tire not only didn't change my oil, they just broke my car even more and charged me $100.00 to do it. I will never go here ever again. read more

Second visit. Much better than the first one. Needed an oil change and complimentary rotate/balance. Minor mistake during making an appointment..........they forgot to record one of the services. Seemingly no matter, the services were completed in an hour. No problems with the quality of the service. Two notes: 1) Don't forget to sign up for the complimentary $20 off monthly coupon. 2) Ask for the price of all the service upfront because they haven't provided it with either visit. Overall, I'll be back again to give them another try. read more

This is the second time with a different car that Belle Tire has recommended expensive repairs that my personal mechanic could not corroborate by his expert assessment. The first incident occurred at the Washtenaw branch. The visit at this new branch was for an alignment. The mechanic said the car needed four ball joints at a cost of 850 dollars. Knowing from experience to get a second opinion and knowing I had a front right ball joint changed in the past year I took the car to my mechanic who found only the left front ball joint was bad. He fixed that and we went to the Washtenaw branch this time. The tricky buggers put these recommendations in the system so the guy at this branch refused to align the car after my mechanic did the repairs stating,"I trust my guy". I'm sure you do because if he put the car up on the rack and found his "guy" had made an error or just out right lied, or he's just incompetent (I'm going for choice number 2) then he is in the awkward position of having to explain such a costly mistake from 'his guy" who is supposed to be competent as well as honest (if he is not). He did not offer to recheck the car which reinforces my suspicion that this was just an attempt to make money which I also suspect translates into commissions. If that's the case, it's a dirty business model. While you can get good deals on tires and the 20 dollar deal for lifetime balancing is great, for mechanical work, you best get a second opinion before you part with a large amount of cash for nothing. read more

Had some front end analysis done on my truck. Mechanic walked me back to show me the problem. Noticed my chrome wheel caps face down on concrete full of my lug nuts and brake calipers just hanging by their hoses. I just shook my head and left...never to return. read more

The Quick Lube on State Street wasn't open when yet and I needed an oil change before leaving for a long road trip right after work today. It was 8:10am and I was the only car in the garage so I figured it would take 15-20 minutes tops for the basic oil change package. First of all, they were extremely slow about taking my car from the parking lot into the garage. It was about 30 minutes after I had arrived and I was getting annoyed, especially since three mechanics and two of the clerks were inside the waiting area talking and laughing for 15 of those minutes. I asked if I could pay for the service then because I needed to leave for work as soon as the car was done and the clerk told me he needed the work order first and continued to type away on his computer for five minutes before getting it for me. After I paid, I noticed the mechanic was still messing around with my car so I asked how long it would take for them to finish. The clerk said he was just then replacing the oil filter and still needed to put the new oil in. Even more annoyed than before, I asked what they had been doing for the past 35 minutes and was rudely told it took them that long to put my car on the lift and drain the oil. Now I'm not a car expert by any means, but if it takes a Quick Lube 10-15 minutes for the entire process, why did it take 2-3 times that to just prep the car? When it was all said and done it took them over 45 minutes to complete the service and I paid almost twice as much as I would have elsewhere. Needless to say I won't be coming back to Belle Tire for an oil change, or any other service for that matter. read more

Had a terrible experience. I broke a ball joint and had my car towed here. They informed me that when my driver side upper ball joint broke it damaged a strut on my car and that all of my struts would have to be replaced because they do not replace one at a time. While they were at it they noticed my upper ball joint on the passenger side was in bad condition and ought to be replaced. They also told me my shock absorbers were ready to go so I should have them replaced as well. I trusted Belle Tire and had them do all of the work they recommended. Nearly $2,000 later, I picked my car up and it nearly fell a part within 10 miles of driving! I took it to a local mechanic (close to where my car fell a part) and learned that one of my ball joints had been replaced with a BROKEN PART and was close to giving out again. Additionally my lower ball joints on both sides needed to be replaced and I was told this should have been caught and done while Belle Tire was replacing my upper ball joints (as the labor would have been virtually no different). I also learned that the work on the shocks was done improperly, causing one of them to disconnect (the reason my car stopped within 10 miles of driving). To top it off, a local mechanic who looked at my car after having to stop driving, found a rookie mistake made on the strut--a part was overturned so much it caused damage to my vehicle and made it unsafe to drive, a mistake that the mechanic said "a beginner trying to fix their car using youtube would have made." Belle Tire offered to fix these mistakes for no additional cost (but would not reimburse me for my troubles), or they would pay $150 (the cheapest aspects of the new damage) of the local mechanics $850 charge to fix all of it (again). Not trusting Belle Tire to touch my car again, I am taking the $150 and am having the local mechanic work on my car. I am so disgusted with the low quality of work done on my car and poor customer service from this group. I have used Belle Tire for all of my car needs the last two years I have been in Ann Arbor. I will never be back here again. read more

I give this only one star!! The guy at the front desk was extremely cold and almost rude to the point where I almost just walked right out. He asked if he could help me, I told him my issue. He then yelled at the other front desk guy next to him that he wasn't going to get something done, like he was too busy and I took his time away from something. He got my vehicle signed in and they took it back. I told him I had insurance on my tires and he said they don't accept tire insurance at their store. All it was was a screw in my tire!!! He said they could take a look at it though so I allowed that. Finally they were done with the truck, they guy said they couldn't repair it and he just stood there. Didn't say anything or even look me in the eye. He finally handed me my keys after a minute. But seriously, he didn't smile, didn't look at me, nothing what so ever. I have had much better customer service at other locations in which I will take my business too next time. I would much rather have no service than the horrible service I experienced today at this Belle Tire location!!! Too bad since I have been going there for years. read more

The Belle Tire Ann Arbor (Ellsworth) location is a very honest business that does quality work. Example: Last year I came in asking for a new set of Michelin tires and the associate (Jeremy) said "I won't take your money now--you have a few thousand more on your current tires" So I drove them for another 8 months, then had Belle Tire put on the new Michelins. The current manager that I work with at this location (second in charge under Sean W) is Frank H who is one of the best auto service representative I have ever met. Frank has been in the business more than 30 years, is impeccably honest, has outstanding product knowledge, excellent customer service, and offers competitive prices without playing any games. Like Jeremy (former assistant manager), Sean (Manager) and the rest of the team at this location--Frank and the team here are interested in establishing long term business relationships through quality, honesty, and integrity. read more
