I ordered the bulgogi hoagie. They give you 2 sandwiches with chips, pickle, and coleslaw for an amazing 12.99. Most of the menu items are similar or cheaper. Came for the unusual combo of Asian menu for moi, breakfast menu for hubby an all American eater 90% of the time, and close proximity to our Airbnb. The waitress was sweet, attentive and kept all drinks filled--5 stars for trying hard and fulfilling her part of a successful operation. Utter disappointment in the water-flavored ramen broth, a difficult feat given all the veggies atop the perfectly cooked al dente ramen noodles. Except for the (bulgolgi) beef nothing had any flavor, not the thin sliced radishes, carrots, onions green and white, spinach, mushrooms or ribbons of egg (which typically served and I also prefer as a soft poached whole egg). I asked for mild spice, instead I got none ha ha...Pass that bottle of gochuchang! A squirt of the red on each bite and soy sauce in the broth couldn't ease my $10.00 ramen pain however. I guess I just ordered wrong here as the bulgolgi and bibimbap seemed to be the bread and butter Korean Go-To's here. The mandoo I wanted to try were fried only, when you know Asians like to steam or boil everything, I had to pass on those. The spinach, ham and choice of cheese omelet on the other side of the table did my husband just fine. It came smothered in cheddar with tasty grilled ham within. Whole wheat toast slices were really small for bagged variety, just a note, it was plenty for Hubs to eat but like micro Bimbo slices. Hashbrowns were amiss though, seem like a natural and standard accompaniment for a diner, but not here. Coffee served in a double wall stainless mug, has an unusual chicory and barley flavor, similar to a blend of weaker chicory and Korean barley tea. This is a small mom and pop shop with a selection of American diner and popular Korean dishes. It doesn't look like much from the outside but it has a cute interior that gives a Korean restaurant vibe. The server was very nice and waited our table right away. My husband ordered bibimbop and I ordered a veggie scramble. The hash browns were mixed in my eggs which came by surprise. It came with toast. I feel sad to say my favorite part of my meal was the toast. My husband thought that bibimbop was just alright. It wasn't great but it wasn't bad. You can dine in or get quick food to-go. They have good hours and their own parking lot. And, once again, it's American Diner + Korean cuisine. How fun. How tasty! Bell's is a regular fixture in the rhythm of life at my place. Sometimes we'll drop in and grab a quick bite, but more often than that we'll phone in an order and get take-out to enjoy in comfies back home. Being vegan, and having spent time in South Korea, bi bim bap has pretty much become my definition of comfort food (there aren't all that many vegan dishes in Korean cooking). My partner is not an herbivore, however, which makes Bell's the perfect place for us. She can get breakfast or a burger, I can get some delicious tofu bibimbap (sans egg), and we can enjoy a top-notch meal together at an excellent value. I'm pretty much always in the mood for Bell's. A little taste of Seoul right here in Ann Arbor! Out of all the places in and around Ann Arbor I think this one gets overlooked a bit. A mom-and-pop place offering American diner favorites and popular Korean dishes. It's small looking but they have a solid customer base and their food will speak for itself. Portions are very generous for price, I ALWAYS have leftovers when I come here or if I take it home. Everything we have ordered has been fantastic! Food was always hot, never had any complaints about anything. Take home or dine in food has excellent and delicious every time! Service was always friendly and quick. Even when they are super busy they let you know they are coming to you soon to check in and get you refills. They have online ordering, you can call in, come in and sit down and if you want to bring the kids that's cool too! Amazing meal! Started with some of the delicious potstickers. They were incredibly fresh and steaming hot when they came out, despite how busy it was. My dad and I both ordered the Bi-Bim-Bops, mine with chicken and his with steak. They were both delicious and huge portions. Super fresh too! The many different veggies, rice, and juicy meat. Definitely worth the price. My mom ordered an omelette with beef, spinach, onions and cheese. She said it was perfectly cooked and tasted wonderful. Overall this restaurant was definitely worth the visit. I had enough leftovers for a second meal and was full both times. Plus the prices were not too bad for the amount of food you are getting. We visited Bell's for the first time a few days back. We were attracted by their 'fusion menu' of classical American diner food plus Korean speacialties. We ordered Bibimbap & Japchae, both of which were excellent by local standards (we have lived in Asia for decades & I have traveled often to S. Korea). However, there is a server in the restaurant who seems to be unhappy with dealing with customers. I let it go - but after 2 or 3 instances of ignoring us when the place was not at all busy - I brought my unhappiness to the attention of the manager. The food was great, but why should we - unlike other seemingly happy customers - be treated differently? I promise that neither of us misbehaved.. I told the wonderful boss lady that we loved our meal but did not want to deal with Mme Grumpy again - what a disappointment! read more

Come for the breakfast stay for the bibimbop. That's what my boyfriend and I had here on a Saturday afternoon. Me? Breakfast. Eggs, ham, hashbrowns and a biscuit. All basic but pretty good. Although the biscuit was a nice change of pace from the typical "white, wheat or rye" toast offerings most places have. It was HUGE and a touch sweet. And they serve it until they close. BREAKFAST ANY TIME!!! Anyway, it was good but not mind blowing. Basic in the best way possible. The real standout is the Korean part of the menu. My fella got the tofu bibimbop. I tried a few bites and really liked it. I think I'll get it the next time but I prefer mine with beef. It was quite a hearty serving as well. I think he barely made it through half. The space is older and it shows. It's got character, that's for sure, but the seating has seen better days. Someone mentioned it felt like a cafeteria and that's very accurate. But you don't come for the ambiance. You come for the food. In general the menu is half American diner food (not just breakfast) and half Korean classics. A client introduced me to this very underrated and under-appreciated culinary oasis. While Bell's is on Stadium Blvd, one of the larger roads in A2, it's sufficiently far from the UM campus that you need a car to get there and it's away from places like Zingermans, Webers, and Knights, that you would not notice Bell's unless you were looking for it. As the name suggests, Bell's Diner serves classic American diner food and specializes in traditional American breakfast -- eggs, starches, and meats such as bacon, ham, sausage, etc. I discovered their Korean fare and while I enjoy all of the dishes, I particularly enjoy their Bi Bim Bap with marinated beef over brown rice. It's a delicious meal-in-a-bowl that keeps me full until dinner. It's the special on Tuesdays for $1.00 off of the normal price of $10.99. The portion is generous; the price is actually quite reasonable. If you want lavish decor and organic ingredients, Bell's is probably not for you but you value tasty food at reasonable prices over ambiance, then you'll feel right at home at Bell's Diner. read more

We love the cozy hole in the wall feel. The restaurant is super tiny with limited seating, but it's perfect for a get in and get out type of meal. It's not great for large groups, but perfect if you're by yourself or a few other people. We've been going more frequently over the past couple months, since we can get a decent ramen close to home. Their bimibop is also really good, so far the best I've had in Ann Arbor. Their breakfast is just okay; we haven't tried the sandwiches just yet. I was expecting some kimchi or banchan; none came. Didn't time the wait for food but I thought it was longer than expected. Other than frying an egg and quickly sautéing already seasoned beef everything else is pre-made. Same theory I have with pho, shouldn't take more than 5 minutes. The bibimbap was delicious and a huge serving. Many other reviewers showed it along with kimchi and gochujang (or some other sauce), but neither were given nor offered. $11 for bibimbap is pricy. This is my favorite cheap diner breakfast in Ann Arbor. You're not gonna get anything that blows your socks off, but my scrambled eggs and hash browns are always done perfectly. I have yet to actually try any of the Korean fare, which is silly I know, but it looks amazing and I can't wait to try it! Service is always super prompt and friendly. If you've lived in southeast Michigan for any length of time, you know that it boasts diners and Coney Island restaurants galore. It's hard to run a diner in this area and have it stand out from the crowd, but Bell's does it. Bell's has the homey atmosphere and decor you'd expect for the average diner, plus all the standards like greasy but good breakfasts, hamburgers, and sandwiches. But they also offer a small menu of Korean standards like Be Bim Bob and thin rice noodles with meat. It's always nice to have options at your local diner. The decor is diner standard for the most part, though. There are booths, little decorated plates lining the walls, and the general atmosphere says "Country Kitchen." The only thing that would tip you off to the fact that there is anything unusual on the menu here is that bottles of soy sauce stand along the packets of sugar and other condiments on each table. I used to go to Bell's occasionally with friends many years ago, but they had a fire in 2000 or 2001 and were closed for remodeling for several months. We sort of forgot about Bell's a rediscovered it recently. On my latest trip, my companion had the French toast, and I had the zucchini omelets with onions, mushrooms and feta cheese. The serving of French toast was large and it smelled strongly and pleasantly of cinnamon. My omelet was nicely done, with generous amounts of feta on the outside, instead of on the inside. I've had various versions of the vegetarian omelet at a variety of diners, but I've never seen zucchini offered as one of the ingredients, so that was a nice change of pace. For the $5 and change I paid for my breakfast, many other restaurants will throw in hash browns along with the omelet and toast, so it's not the cheapest diner meal around. However, it's not going to break the bank to dine there, either. I'd definitely go back there for brunch or to try one of the Korean dishes. read more

I've visited Ann Arbor three times and have eaten at Bell's Diner on all three occasions--that's how much I love this place. Before I fell victim to this one-sided affair, I'd heard rumors about Bell's Diner from my colleagues. They'd disappear during lunch and come back flushed and satisfied, and they'd lust for the experience again the very next day. Soon, I couldn't wait for *my* turn. When my boyfriend and I were invited to a birthday party in the A2, I seized the chance. Surrounded by tables of party appetizers and homemade goodies, all I could think about was Bell's Diner and the hotness I was going to taste that night. I skipped to the car when we left. Located in its own lot, Bell's Diner has a modest, whitewashed exterior that screams "mom-and-pop." Inside, unique wall decor and figurines on shelves give the place a homey "diner" feel with a feminine touch. The hanging menu board listed an interesting variety of American and Korean foods (very unique for a diner!), but I already knew what I was getting that night: bibimbap. When the waitress came to take our orders, I opted for brown rice and for my eggs to be fried, and my boyfriend got the spicy chicken dish. When my hot rice medley finally came, I doused it *liberally* with gochujang (sweet and hot Korean pepper sauce) and dug in. It was love at first bite. Now I've had dolsot bibimbap (served in a sizzling "stone pot") and bibimbap served in ceramic bowls, but never in a gigantic stainless steel bowl. Being able to empty the sauce bottle and mix the contents so freely in such a light and spacy bowl definitely enhanced my meal experience. With bibimbap, it's always nice to be able to dine like a slob without looking like one and leaving a place like a ricefield after a tornado. As for the boyfriend's spicy chicken dish, it was "alright" (in his words). The chef was generous with the protein, but the dish was a bit too "saucy" for him. Since I was too full from my bibimbap to take a bite, I took his word for it. The next two times I had bibimbap at Bell's Diner, I asked for the egg sunny-side up and much prefer the rich moistness of the yolk to the fully fried version. I also ordered half white rice and half brown rice for slightly more fiber, and it tasted just as good. As summer nears, a visit to Ann Arbor is due for us any day now and I can't wait to plan what we're gonna eat there. The owners work hard, are friendly, and I wish they were still downtown (what a sad fiasco that was when the owners of the Broken Egg essentially kicked Bell's out to try to take away the good business Bell's had for years.) WOW! Cannot say enough good things about this hidden gem of a restaurant. Stepping into Bell's is like stepping back in time into the house of a 1950s grandmother and I mean that in the best way possible. Quaint decorations, no TVs or loud music blaring. Just the sounds of conversations, newspaper pages being turned, and forks scraping plates trying to gather up every last delicious morsel of food. I should probably talk about the food. It's amazing. It's fast, hot, and always on point. I've gotten the bibimbap more times than I can count and it is always amazing and exactly the same. I love a restaurant with reliability. Never before had I been to a place where I can get all my favorite diner foods and all my favorite Korean foods in one place. Until I went to Bell's. Dishes from both sides of the menu are always wonderful. The bento boxes, mandoo, japchae, and the bibimbap mentioned above are my go-tos. In regards to diner fare, you can't go wrong with the pancakes. They are thin yet fluffy and really massive. Honestly my favorite pancakes in AA. Try them and thank me later. The omelets are also great but do be aware that they put the cheese on top of the omelet for some reason. That threw me for a loop on my first visit but it's no biggie. Service is always awesome too. You're seated quickly and served with a smile. Your drink will also never be empty because they are constantly refilling it. Just super attentive and friendly staff all around. All in all, DO NOT SLEEP ON BELL'S! It truly is a diamond in the rough. It is shocking to me how many people haven't heard of this place.
