Thanks ghost kitchen, Ben's Fast Food and DoorDash for allowing delivery to my location outside of your delivery radius. I don't normally order from DoorDash but only for when I am really sick or emergency. I have ordered from previous ghost kitchen at 60 Morris street during the pandemic times, but I was reintroduced to the ghost kitchen today with "Ben's Fast food". I read good reviews of this place and decided I wanted to get some healthy eating with lots of vitamins! I was feeling excited to try something new and hope it will satisfy my hunger. So I followed the directions and waiting for my food to arrive for contactless drop off. Finally my Door-dasher, David arrived and I got my food. Finally a perfect DoorDash delivery nothing spilled this time. Opened the box and pretty colors flooded my eye with nice presentation. So I ordered Pork Shoulder Hearty Bowl base of millet & rice + tender slow roasted pork shoulder, cauliflower, broccoli, carrots, roasted sunflower seeds, pickled red onions, fresh cucumber, parsley garnish, with signature sauce that is gluten, soy, dairy free and zero refined sugar. Green smoothie has whole spinach, pineapple, and banana with a dash of lime juice and house coconut milk that is gluten, dairy, soy free with zero added sugar and 100% plant based. Good flavor and I liked my meal. Because I ordered a smoothie, I was only able to eat half my meal. But that is ok, I feel energized and healthy. It feels good when you eat healthy and now I just need to find energy to walk around after my meal for better digestion. Would I come back to this place, yes but I would probably drive in person to pick it up, since I don't like using 3 party apps. I hope Ben's fast food will have staying power to be around and not disappear like most ghost kitchens. Some of these ghost kitchens, I hope they open a restaurant in the future. Terrible service. I've ordered several times through Door Dash on different times. Placed my order 10:30, 10:40, 10:54, etc ALL of them and I mean ALL food ORDERS arrives 1.5 hour after my order was placed. I understand that it's across the city but this is preposterous! discovered this on doordash while trying to find something clean, healthy, and a rice bowl variant. the paper bag it came in was sturdy, stapled thrice, and even had a cute company card talking about their mission (idk why i like that so much but i do). got the chicken hearty bowl, (8/10). chicken was so tender, soft, and flavorful. i could eat it by itself since it wasn't dry or bland. meat to veggie/grain ratio IS a bit low, but for $10 i'm not too mad (and i wouldn't mind paying an extra $3 if i wanted more). i randomly picked my sauce, and the lemon thyme was not my favorite. while it is lemony, the thyme flavor is subtle and it's oilier than i expected. i thought it would be creamier and lighter. the picked onions were much tangier and less sweet than i expected, but cut through the chicken & sauce nicely. first time having millet and while it has an odd aftertaste, was cooked well. love the sunflower seeds for crunch and the veggies weren't too soggy. i would definitely get ben's again and am open to try the other meat/sauce offerings! for $10, the amount of food you get, and the clean-ness of the bowl (not too oily or heavy but still filling with veggies), i think it's very much worth it. read more

I hesitate to order greens + grains bowls because most places go overboard on the grains, but this was a great mix of both. I want to give a shout out to Ben's Fast Food because they said they're healthy. My libre 3 glucose monitor indicates to me that this is indeed one of the healthiest meals I can order with take out. When I eat at home and cook veggies and chicken, my glucose monitor barely registers the meal 130 glucose - ish, same with Ben's and now I've eaten it twice (tried wagyu beef and chicken). Still, what looks and tasted like steamed Birds Eye frozen vegetables (even if the owner insists they're fresh) are tasteless and disappointing. I also wasn't impressed by the mushy rice and millet or dried out meat, but the vegetables were a stunner. I don't recall ever being served that crap before in any restaurant, and rarely even in a school cafeteria. Even if they really are fresh and you've only transformed them to be like that, why would you do that to perfectly innocent vegetables? What did they do to you? As much as I appreciate the reply, I still recommend that you don't go here. The food is just bad. We came here without properly looking into it and found out on spot but they still let you order there. Overall they have a very streamlined process which I was impressed by. What a disaster, and I'm honestly not sure who to blame. I placed an order for a Pork Shoulder Hearty Bowl via DoorDash and came to the little pickup center that serves many restaurants, including Ben's Fast Food. The entire process was anything but fast, and the only reason I'm giving 2 stars instead of 1 star is because the food was actually decent. I kept scanning my confirmation screen at the kiosk, but my order couldn't be found. No one else seemed to be having issues with their order, so I thought it was just me. I finally flagged down a staff member, who couldn't find my order either, despite the messages I was getting from DoorDash. Unfortunately I had to wait for my meal all over again. It was late at night, and this SoMa alley already didn't feel the safest. I was exhausted post-workout and not sure if I'll give Ben's Fast Food another try. Maybe delivery? Seems to be what everyone else was doing. But seriously, if you're going to have an automated food pickup system for customers, at least make sure it works. Or make up for errors. read more

Ben's Fast Food, contrary to what the name suggests, dishes out healthy meals at EXTREMELY affordable prices. I ordered the pork shoulder mixed bowl which came with steamed veg, cabbage, mixed greens, and a base of brown rice and millet. The millet was a pleasant surprise since I know this is typically a more expensive grain. The hefty amount of well-seasoned, rich pork along with the fiber-loaded grains and veggies kept me full for hours. Somehow this entire bowl came at just shy of $10! How Ben is able to serve such delicious food at such low prices (especially considering that this location is in SF) I'll just never know. This man is a miracle worker, and you'll be doing yourself an injustice by grabbing lunch at the plethora of unhealthy, low-quality fast food establishments instead of ordering from here. One thing to note is that the pickled onions are really vinegary. But, you get adjusted to their piquant flavor as you chow down on the hearty grains and fatty pork since they really do add a nice, tangy contrast. If you're not a fan of pickles though, I'd take some precaution and maybe omit them. read more

TLDR: these weren't the tastiest bowls I've ever had in my life but they were still good and, more importantly, they felt incredibly healthy and nutritious. For those who are gluten, soy, or dairy free who are also on a low to no refined sugar diet, this is a really great option! I've had three things from here. The chicken mixed bowl with extra avocado and extra chickpea+potato, the pulled pork mixed bowl, and the chocolate espresso pudding. The two mixed bowls contain lots of healthy vegetables chopped up in the perfect bite sized pieces. The meat, when warm, was tender and mixed in well with the grains and vegetables. Health wise, this felt like one of the healthiest things I could eat outside of standard sweetgreen or Mixt, which also offer great customization. Still, with these bowls, I couldn't help but think with every bite that I was doing my body a favor. Quantity wise, each bowl was SO much food. The picture attached was just 1 bowl. Half a bowl easily kept me full until the next meal but this obviously differs for different people. Value wise, at $10 per bowl, this is one of the most reasonable meals for the quality of healthy food I've seen in SF. You still have some customization when it comes to what you do and don't want in the pre-fixed bowl. As for the pudding, it was really good for what it was (it was dark chocolate cashew pudding sweetened by only dates and topped with espresso). It was a little less thick than the consistency of pudding, but it was still so chocolately and really satisfied my sweet tooth. I could taste the dates a little bit but the chocolate and espresso were still the main flavors. I will say that the size of the portion I received was smaller than what I expected. It was about the size of a little plastic container that salad shops like to put dressing in on the side. Service wise, I felt like a lot of care went into my bowls as they looked great when o opened them up (I got delivery) and on one of the boxes was a handwritten message using my name and thanking me for my order. At the end of the day, as someone who is constantly on the lookout for new healthy food options, this will become a new go-to to add to my rotation. read more

5 Star food, 4 star ordering experience. From the pictures online we thought it was a typical restaurant but it ended up being a central location that shared many to-go option food services. We were in need of an easy healthy bite, and although the name may suggest this is "fast food" it is far from what you'd typically expect. First timer here, was available on DoorDash late at night on a weekday and luckily for me, this spot was open for delivery @ 10 PM. I would describe the food as a hearty salad, served hot. Chicken is so juicy and tender, just comes right apart, which blends beautifully with the soft millet (cereal grain/crop- I had to google) and brown rice. Carrots, broccoli, and cauliflower are chopped perfectly and steamed softly. Easy to eat. I got the chipotle sauce which tastes great with the chicken. A healthy, fast, and super affordable meal in downtown SF? Unheard of! Bowls like this are usually so unnecessarily pricy, but I was so happy to spend less than $10 for this jam-packed bowl. Every bowl comes with slow roasted protein (wagyu, pork, chicken), a base of fresh greens or hearty grains (or both), your choice of signature sauce, steamed veggies (cauliflower, carrots, broccoli, pickled red onions, cucumber, and parsley), and roasted sunflower seeds. I love that their bowls are low carb, gluten, dairy, soy, and fish-free. Their entire menu is plant-based except for the meat. We both ordered their slow-roasted chicken bowls with the smoky chipotle sauce. It was delicious! For someone who struggles to get enough veggies and protein in her diet, this was just the perfect balance for me! I wish it was a lot closer to me because I'd love to eat this every week if I could. They are located in yet another cloud/ghost kitchen. Easy to miss because it's in an alleyway. The pickup process could have been better. We got a text to check in (on iPads) and pick up our food in a designated locker. When we got there, there was nothing in our locker, so I think someone took our meal (perhaps on accident, I hope). But they were happy to remake our order and it was in our hands pretty quickly. I didn't mind this at all since the quality and taste of the food made up for it. Will definitely be back again! I ordered the chicken hearty bowl which came with veggies, some grains, and super tender chicken. The chipotle sauce is so delicious. This is one of my go-to places to order from if I'm too lazy to cook but want something healthy and delicious! The only thing is the portion size isn't super big, so you may be a bit hungry after.
