My husband and I were at a different spot that was jam-packed, so after a quick search, we found Bengee's. We headed over, and it was a very quiet Monday night. Only a couple of other people were in the place eating, and when we walked in we were promptly greeted by a super nice server. Hubby and I were tired from a long day out and about so we really appreciated the super-fast service. We got our food pretty quickly and OMG...it was great! The broth was smooth and flavorful, the rolls were so tasty and perfectly crafted. I had the $79 omakase dinner at Bengee Sushi and it was hands down the worst dining experience I've ever had. * Drinks: The meal started with a yuzu juice that tasted like straight sugar syrup. One sip was enough to sweeten an entire soda bottle - undrinkable. * Fried Fish: The fried Mehikari was inedible. It was so greasy it was dripping oil -- worse than greasy street food, which is unacceptable for a sushi restaurant. * Oysters: Things got worse with the oysters. Both orders had shell fragments inside, and I hurt my tooth biting into it. This ruined the rest of the meal for me. * Sushi: The sushi itself was just "okay." I actually liked their firmer sushi rice, but that was the only highlight. To make things worse, the staff didn't even know what fish they were serving -- they told us the chazuke had red snapper when it was clearly yellowtail. * Extra Order: I ordered an extra red snapper sushi because it was the one I enjoyed... and it came with a fish bone in it. Completely unacceptable for an omakase. * Service: When I finally brought up the oyster issue and the multiple mistakes, the response was a half-hearted "10% off your next visit." No refund, no accountability. We paid full price for a meal full of errors. Overall, this was a disaster from start to finish. Unclean oysters, oily fried fish, misidentified dishes, and even bones in sushi. Omakase is supposed to be a carefully curated, premium experience -- instead this felt careless and sloppy. My boyfriend and I had the pleasure of going to the soft opening of this place! Right when we walked in we were greeted warmly by everyone. The decor is very sleek, modern and clean. We ordered 3 rolls and the omurice. The ocean roll was delicious and fresh. The super albacore roll perfectly melt in our mouths. But the star of the show was the tornado omurice. The egg was perfectly cooked and tasted delicious with the kimchi fried rice and pork. Highly recommend! The "dessert roll" we got was the purple yam role. Purely a random encounter. Even though it's not a Japanese operated restaurant, but quality of the fish is not bad. I've had many Japanese restaurants and I love most sushi places, this one is surprisingly very clean and fresh. Fish tasted fresh and texture was just right. The only problem I think is the menu selection. Usually, places would offer sashimi and sashimi deluxe that offers quantity variations. The nigiri/sashimi was easily misunderstood as the 1st column is the nigiri (wasn't labeled) and the 2nd column indicates sashimi (wasn't labeled). The sashimi offered bigger pieces upon asking, so it is worth it but can easily be overlooked. Here's my two cents, the menu needs to offer portion varieties as far as sushi and sashimi. For example, grouping the popular fishes together to form a small combo and more for a combo deluxe, each come with miso soup and salad. I ordered the chirashi bowl and my friend ordered the ramen as well as a salmon handroll. Called in to make reservation for a bday party group, lady over the phone told me to hold and put the phone aside where I waited for over 15 minutes and the lady completely forgot about me. Tried calling back and phone can't get through (most likely the phone still left hanging on the table). Terrible phone service , sad to say we dined there before , food is decent but they need to step up in their service, terrible how she can forget to get back to customer holding on the phone. The first time we went, we were told that there was only one chef in the kitchen, and they suggested we go to a different restaurant instead.
