I called in advance to make sure ghosts shrimp was available and the store clerk said he has a bunch. I get there and I say I wanted 5 dozens of ghosts shrimp. I didn't know how big they were, so I asked and he said they were big! so I changed my mind to 4 dozen and qtr grass shrimp. As he brought the bait out, I ask to look at the ghost shrimp, I realize some were small and dying so I ask for another 1 dozen. Basically making it 5 dozen. Remind you I'm going on a boat trip with few friends. He tells me no that I can't buy another dozen!! What was the reason? I'm disappointed and upset about this. Specially since ghost shrimp is 15$ a dozen. I spent 75$ just on bait and he doesn't want to sell me another dozen for what reason? And then I ask why? He told me they are reserved but I can tell he was lying because he was going to sell me 5 dozens before hand. He also says he doesn't want to sell out because it's rest of the ghost shrimp for the week. I thought bait shops would want to sell you all there bait if it's available for their customers. Rude customer services and wasting peoples time because the store clerk has a big ego. read more

I am a Benicia residence and I used to buy my bait at Benicia Bait & Tackle but since the Corona Virus Pandemic started, their attitude in answering phone call is way more that unacceptable due to bad manners and bad attitude in answering calls from customers. With that being said, I buy my bait from Norm's Bait & Tackle in Vallejo and Virgil Bait & Tackle in Suisun. These mentioned stores are very polite, respectful and honest. Today my son and a a friend visit the shop. I want to say the visit was very unpleasant I felt like I was rush out the store with no customer help what so ever. The sales person treated my son like a person like he was a Thief every where he walked the sales person would follow him around the store. This is my local tackle shop. It is family owned and the people are friendly. They have most of the stuff you need for the local fishing scene whether you fish by boat or shore, freshwater, brackish or saltwater, inshore or offshore: bait, gear, tackle, accessories. They even offer custom designed equipment and tackle that they know will catch fish in the area. To be honest, they didn't repair my reel several years ago and often the wait in line is long when it gets busy. And they don't cater to fly fishermen. My son is 18 years old and an avid fisherman! Every Monday he shops the bait store with his 10 year old little brother and then they head to the Pier. He came home the other day and was so excited! They went into the bait shop with about $10 to get what little bait they could afford. They said the really sweet lady behind the counter with long hair helped them and she gave them so much extra bait! I have never seen bigger smiles! They were so grateful and frankly ... totally shocked that someone would be so nice. In today's world that just doesn't happen any more! She made their day! Well, from the moment I walked into this bait store I knew I came to the right place. We pulled in and there was a constant stream of fishermen/women coming in and out - all happy. The staff there is very knowledgeable about the area, are more then willing to provide assistance on how to catch and where to catch the most fish, etc. Even though I have to pay more to go to their bait store as I have to pay the toll for the toll bridge, it is worth the trip! I actually called their store today and I guess they were busy but they called back within 3 minutes just to make sure everything was going well. CONGRATS to Benicia bait and tackle! read more

Ok so great customer service is huge with me and you dont find it to many places anymore.. I've been in Benicia bait now about three times and I'm not lying when I say that Pam and Curtis went way above and beyond to help me out all three times. Not only did they spend about 30 minutes showing me the 50 things ive been doing wrong with my poles/bait but they discounted the prices and really put in the extra effort, I liked my service so much that I returned the 100 dollar reel I had bought a week prior from big five and came back and bought a different one from them, I plan on coming back here many times In the future, great service, great people. This place is definitely one of the best, if not the best, bait shop in the east bay. I've gone here a few times and bought live grass shrimp and pile worms. Good quality and size baits. They also have a good selection of tackle. I always spend more than I intend to when I go here. The only reason I'm not giving it 5 stars is due to one particular worker that just makes me feel not welcomed. Has the, "what do you want?!" get out! attitude.
