Shrimp Skillet
Nicole P.

Solid breakfast spot located in Benicia's industrial complex. Jillian was friendly, knowledgeable of the menu, and provided good suggestions. We had the pancake combo, French toast combo, and the shrimp and avocado skillet. Everything was good and the food came out pretty quickly. We must have come at the right time because it got really busy when we were on our way out. There is plenty of indoor and outdoor seating available and they have also have a bar area.

Great service. Food is amazing. Clean & friendly. The Benicia grill has food and was exactly what I was looking for.

Lots of choices on the menu and decent portions but the quality was not good the day we were there. Burnt toast with no apology or even an attempt to fix it. (See the pic) The place is very much in need of an upgrade. Worn out booths and I would say the quality is a bad Denny's type meal. We did not feel very well after eating there for the rest of the afternoon and evening.

Cheese steak with fries

So this is a place I haven't been to much but my coworker didn't bring lunch and the name Benicia Bar and grill came up so we ordered. We both ordered the cheese steak sandwich with fries. The roll was toasted but the meat is not the traditional sliced ribeye from a Philly cheesesteak sandwich. The meat was more like strips like that of a fajita and wasn't seasoned well. However the star of the show would be the fries. Cooked perfectly and very crispy.

I stopped by Benicia Grill on a Friday morning for some brekkie since I was in the area. Benicia Grill is a cute little spot tucked away in the industrial area of Benicia and is definitely a local spot. Upon entering, I was greeted by the sweetest lady and seated right away. I got the Santa Fe Skillet and it was pretty good!

Ate here last week. It was fine! It wasn't amazing but it didn't suck either. I eat breakfast out often and I am always searching for hidden gems. This isn't a place I would return to when there are so many better options. ‍.

My pickle that was partially eaten by a rat

We ordered BLTs and they straight scammed us. The sheer lack of give a crap when it came to these sandwiches was insulting. There was one piece of bacon per sandwich, the tiniest slice of tomato, a huge portion of wilted lettuce and such a thin slice of bread. I paid $14 for what probably cost them nickels and dimes. Also my pickle looked like a rat had been chomping on it before me.

Steak & eggs, with perfect country potatoes. 12-15 oz medium rare steak.

Huge breakfast menu and all 3 that we ordered were excellent. Done perfectly and they offer large portions. Certainly will return to try lunch next time.

Chorizo Skillet

I'm always looking for a good breakfast spot. First time here and it did not disappoint. I had the chorizo skillet, man they sure don't skimp on portions. The food came out pretty fast and our waitress was attentive and friendly.

Our first visit and definitely won't be our last! This place is very cozy with great service and really good food! We got the banana walnut pancakes and T-bone steak and eggs. Everything was fresh, delicious, and the steak was seasoned well.

Grilled Cheese

Came in on a Thursday morning. There weren't too many people so we were asked to seat ourselves. The menu and pricing has changed since I last came around a year or so ago. I made the mistake of ordering something off the menu that they used to serve which was grilled cheese with pepper jack, the cheese is different than before and did not melt at all onto the bread. Other than that everyone else at my table thoroughly enjoyed their meal. Once we were seated, two other parties were seated a couple minutes after us. They did receive service, drinks and food before my party. Handicap parking is available out front and they offer accessible tables if you need them.

Just along the main strip of town, this place is busy. We stopped by early morning just a little after they were opened. Even mid week and there was a massive line already forming. They must be good. There's two entrance, first being the main where the front door is. Patio seating available along the sidewalk. And then the back entrance where the majority of the seating is outside. It's like a secret garden with all the trees and plants. Somewhat a treehouse feel as well. They have 2 levels with tables. Beautiful spot sitting there under the tree having a nice cup of joes and a beautiful pastries. Indoor also has some seating along the front and I believe there's a second floor right above the entrance. There's mainly one line for everything. You wait to place your order if you wanted pastries and food. I think you could just order drinks at counter if you're not getting food but don't quote me on that. Everyone was waiting together. Once you reach the top, there's the counter of fresh baked pastries that's made daily. Things do sell out pretty fast. We literally arrived not long after they open and the ham and cheese croissant was already sold out. Besides pastries, there's fresh baked bread. Coffee drinks were pretty good too. After you pick what you want, the cashier is at the end and that's where you pay. There's a counter at the back where drinks are picked up. The whole place has an open kitchen feel where you could actually see all the workers preparing the sweets. In the back kitchen, you could walk by and see the pastries chef preparing and putting together the fresh sweets. It's like you're part of the kitchen. It's a cute place and it does get busy. The locals know about this place so it a hot spot. The holiday makers know which their names is getting out there and making a big splash for them. We've been a few times while in town and each time, alway busy and great. Amazing pastries and good drink. It is on the pricer side but that's pretty much everywhere you go these days.

Unlike the Fairfield location, I have been able to get seated in a reasonable time at the Benicia location. They're popular, but not to the point of waiting 45+ minutes. I believe they're only open during breakfast/brunch times. Parking isn't too difficult if you don't mind walking a little from the main part of the parking center lot. The corner by Huckleberry's is often full. Ive been a couple times and the quality and service have been consistently good. Of the foods I'd recommend the fried green tomatoes and fried okra for starters. They're also one of few places offering beignets. For entrees the crab cake Benedict is good. The portions are filling. Ambiance is very casual. The utensils come in a little paper pouch and the napkins are paper towels on a dowel at each table. This particular location can look a bit dim. I think it's because of the direction of the windows. It's tasty and if you've been to Huckleberry's before you won't be disappointed by this one either.

I couldn't skip checking out Sailor Jack's, which used to be the Nantucket Fish Company, when I worked there in the mid 80's. The lunch menu offers some very different items than were offered four decades ago, but some items from those days are still featured today. (Items like clam chowder and fried prawns, for example.) Our server, Elizabeth, was great. She answered our questions and ensured we were happy with our food, at least as far as she could ensure... the food, however, was rather mediocre. We ordered a variety of food ranging from crab artichoke dip, to a chicken club, to fish and chips, to clam chowder, to a burger, and finally crab cakes. The starter, sandwich, fish and chips, and burger were all okay. The crab cakes however were not liked by those in our group that tasted them. (A lot of filler and not much crab from what one of our party members said). In any case, I mentioned this and the crab cakes, that went mostly uneaten, were removed from our bill. Bravo for good customer service! My understanding is that the outdoor dining that we very much enjoyed, was added during Covid. Back in the 80's the outdoor eating area was all parking lot. I took a look inside to see what else has changed. The main interior dining room looks almost identical to what it looked like 40+ years ago. The previous secondary indoor dining area has now been converted to a food preparation and employee only area. The bar itself looks the same as it did in 1984, but the area around the bar looks much more like dining space than it used to. This may be a good thing as attitudes on indulgences have certainly changed over the decades. I suspect at some point I'll return, hopefully it won't be decades...

If you're looking for the kind of dinner that makes you want to cancel your other weekend plans…read morejust so you can go back, Baxters is it. Tucked right on First Street across from the bay in downtown Benicia, this place has completely earned its reputation as the town's culinary crown jewel. From the moment you walk in, the warmth is unmistakable -- and it's not an accident. Owners Kenneth Coker and Kevin Shaw built this restaurant to feel like their own living room, and it shows in every detail, right down to the name (a sweet nod to their beloved Fox Terrier). That personal touch translates into genuinely attentive service that never feels stiff or rehearsed. Now, the food. The Beef Wellington is the stuff of legend -- perfectly rendered pastry, a filling that melts before you even chew, and clearly a labor of love from the kitchen. The scallops are seared to that impossible perfection where the outside caramelizes but the inside stays buttery-soft. And if salmon gnocchi in vodka sauce is on the menu when you go, order it without hesitation -- it's rich, comforting, and impossible to stop eating. Even the truffle burger, which almost feels like an afterthought on a menu this elevated, has become a neighborhood obsession for good reason. Cocktails are crafted with the same care as the food -- inventive, well-balanced, and clearly the product of a team that takes its bar program seriously. And if you can snag a reservation in The Speakeasy, the intimate back room, do it. It's easily one of the most romantic, memorable settings for a special occasion in the entire Bay Area. Baxters isn't just a great restaurant -- it's a genuine gathering place, the kind of spot a whole town falls in love with. Whether it's date night, a family celebration, or just a nightcap at the bar, Baxters delivers an experience that's warm, delicious, and utterly memorable every single time. Highly, highly recommended.

There is a dedicated parking lot, tight but can hold a decent amount of cars. There is street parking as well, not metered - that is where I parked. The hostess was extremely friendly and attentive, checking in on us several times after ordering to notify of the food's ETA as well as refilling drinks and seeing if we needed anything. The dining area has approximately ten booths in total and became quite crowded around 12:30p. Our meals arrived at different times, items to eat meal arrived sparsely as well. We ordered around 11:30a, there were two other parties present. We were able to order based on our dietary needs/wants as the menu offered quite a diverse array. The crab omelette (known as The California Omelette on the menu) is 1/4 lb of fresh crab served either hot or cold enclosed in three eggs along with avocado and Monterey Jack cheese. For $26.35 the omelette left much to be desired, especially in flavor and seasoning. Nothing complimented or even enhanced the presence of the crab in any way. The remaining party at the table said they enjoy their meal - including a blueberry waffle, toast and eggs with bacon and a double cheeseburger with fries. If you are looking for an inexpensive place to gather, this cafe is certainly an option to consider. It was easy to speak and hear each other with ample privacy and not a lot of traffic - if any.
