Our party of nine finally celebrated my parents' 85th and 84th birthdays here at Benihana and we definitely came to the right place! When we arrived for our 5:00 PM reservation, it wasn't crowded, but the atmosphere was upbeat and fun! Our server was very attentive and sweet! CHEFSITO was our chef for our meal and he was beyond entertaining! His humor was very matter-of-fact, but extremely funny! He had a lot of fun tricks and jokes that kept us entertained throughout our meal preparation. The portions are generous and all started with onion soup, salad, shrimp appetizers, zucchini and onions. At the end of our meal, my parents were treated to ice cream. The staff respected their request of not singing "Happy Birthday" to them. We'll definitely be back, especially with the excellent service and entertainment! Thank you, Benihana, for making this a special and memorable birthday dinner for both of my parents!

We came here on Father's Day but still had to end up waiting around 30 minutes despite having a reservation. The restaurant was very cramped inside as well. All the food we ordered tasted just ok and were pretty bland. However, I really do appreciate our chef who went above and beyond to give us a good experience and tell us funny jokes.

We usually come for birthday dinners. The overall food quality is good and the garlic butter is amazing, however the taste and experience is highly dependent on the chef you are assigned. I've had amazing chefs that cook everything perfectly, and I've had really bad chefs that overcook everything. It's very hard to request specific chefs so I've given up on putting it in my reservation comments. Dinner is usually very crowded and loud. Lunch is less busy with the option of 45 minute power lunch (no substitutions or promos) or the regular lunch menu where you may end up waiting longer but allows you to use with other promotional offers. My good friend sent me a link over the Labor Day weekend and it was a BOGO coupon for Benihana and there was a coupon for a $9 margarita. To get the special, it was required that you sit in either the lounge or bar. I chose the lounge. I made my reservations online through Open Table. Smart decision because Benihana gets crowded. I went on a Saturday night so I don't know how busy it gets during the weekdays. The ambiance is lively but let's discuss the decor. This location looks like a scene from 70s or 80's. That whole restaurant needs to be renovated. I sat in a booth which was fine. However, the booth was by the kitchen entrance so the servers were nonstop walking past me as I attempted to east. My server was attentive and helpful. I ordered 5 course meal. It came with an iceberg lettuce salad, onion soup, steak, steamed rice, fajita vegetables and ginger sauce, yum sauce. Overall, the food was good nothing fancy. For my free entre, I got a salmon. Would I come back? Yes, but I want try the teppanyaki next time with my family.

In short, the place was quiet, the chef still put on a show, and the food was decent... but it didn't quite live up to the five star experience that I was used to. This Benihana is on Ball Road right off the freeway, making it pretty easy to get to. The parking lot used to be shared with an El Torito, but unfortunately that place had a fire and is still being repaired, so Benihana had the parking lot to itself. I went on a weekday for an early dinner, so the place was practically a ghost town both inside and out. I had a group of four, and only had to share my half of the table with one other group of the same size. There were children present in both parties, but everybody was well behaved and entertained by our hibachi chef, Jorge, who put on a traditional Benihana show. Despite the fact that he was not at all Japanese (and owned it) there was plenty of spatula, twirling, the famous onion volcano, a beating heart made of fried rice, and other standard tricks to entertain us as he prepared our food. I had heard about the A5 Wagyu steak and surprisingly enough. It was only $10 more than some of the other steak options so I decided to give it a try. Beforehand, of course, I was treated to a bowl of miso soup, a salad with their special ginger sauce, and some chicken fried rice. There were also mushrooms and vegetables included in the meal. I will say that my first bite of that Wagyu steak was incredible. It practically melted in my mouth. However, the more of it I ate, the more I felt like I was just chewing on fat. I asked for it to be cooked medium rare and that's exactly what I got, but I'm wondering if the fat had not completely rendered into the steak before it was chopped up. Maybe that kind of steak needs cooked a little differently. I will also add the ambience was a little bit spoiled by the chef at the table next to us, where the young hibachi chef was talking about growing in Anaheim and some of the hardships that he faced, including being victimized by crime. I'm sure that the couple at his table celebrating an anniversary was none too thrilled about it either, but I guess that's none of my business. Overall, I had a great time, but there are a few areas that would need touched up to bring it back to a five-star experience.

This place is amazing. Josue(I'm not sure how to spell his name) is an amazing chef, each item on the menu was delish! Not only is the food but the service is amazing. The chefs jokes were funny and the ambiance was cozy and superb. I have never given a five star review and I have reviewed many restaurants. This place is amazing and the best restaurant if you're looking for a good time. #chefjosueisthegoat Next time u go tip him a lot bc he's good

Came here for my birthday meal after a day at Disney and it was pretty disappointing. We were asked to wait in the bar for a table to open and weren't given any timeline. After 25 min, I asked if we were close to being seated and we were then taken to a table. My husband and I both ordered the spicy tofu steak hibachi. I asked if it came with fried rice since I noticed the menu said white rice. The server said it could be added on as a side for $7 extra, so we did that. "Added on as a side" insinuates it would be in addition to, however, no white rice was served. I wouldn't have paid that much extra for a swap. I requested that my shrimp appetizer be added to my husband's plate because I don't eat shellfish. But instead, they just left it out. The portion of veggies was small and only onion and zucchini. I remember it used to include mushrooms (and carrots?). The amount of food served here absolutely does not justify $33. I was pretty shocked, given Benihana is known for its hefty portions. Left a lot to be desired...

Title: Not the Relaxing Birthday Dinner We Expected Occasion: On June 29, I took my wife to the Benihana location in Anaheim to celebrate her birthday. Parking -- 5/5: The restaurant has a large parking lot with plenty of available parking spaces. Food -- 3/5: My wife ordered chicken, shrimp, and fried rice. I ordered shrimp, steak, and fried rice. The food was okay, but there was nothing particularly special or memorable about it. Service -- 2/5: The service was acceptable, but the entire dinner was rushed. Atmosphere -- 1/5: The restaurant was extremely noisy, making it difficult for us to relax and enjoy a peaceful birthday dinner together. Cleanliness -- 2/5: The restroom needed more attention and should have been cleaned properly. Overall Rating -- 2/5: Unfortunately, this was not the relaxing birthday dinner we had hoped for. I would not recommend this location for a birthday, anniversary, romantic dinner, or any special occasion when you and your spouse want to relax and enjoy a quiet evening together.

Benihana Anaheim is one of those spots that still works when you want dinner to feel like part of the night out, not just a meal. We went on a Monday before a Ducks game, and it was the perfect pre-game move. Easy parking, clean bathrooms, and a lively vibe without feeling chaotic. Jasmine took great care of us all night and stayed on top of refills like a pro. Chefsito was a lot of fun too -- super entertaining and even threw in a few tricks I hadn't seen before, which made the experience feel fresh. We started with the chili ponzu yellowtail roll, then went all in with the Wagyu A5 Japan Tokyo Broil, wagyu steak fried rice, and the Deluxe Treat which is the filet and lobster. The meal definitely leaned splurge, but if you're in the mood to treat yourself before heading over to Honda Center, this is a pretty solid way to do it. Service was strong, the show was fun, and the food made it feel worth the stop. Solid pre-Ducks game dinner.

Went to visit on 04/06/26. You can see the restaurant from the street, and there's plenty of parking so you don't need to worry about that at all! When you walk inside, this place is very much a vibe. It has really clean and classic interior, with rich dark colors inside. I absolutely love it! On the left is the actual grill side, the right side is more of a sushi restaurant with a sushi bar. Everyone was absolutely great! Our waitress was super sweet, she was very informative on the menu and made sure our tea was always filled! Chef Kevin was amazing! He was entertaining, and talented! Definitely would request him as a chef again! Friends and I got to try the Wagyu around the world. Holy cow, yeah, it's pricey, but yeah, it's totally worth it!!!! The meats melt into your mouth. Also with the fried rice, veggies, and shrimp. Would totally want to splurge on that again! I also got the Red Plum Sake Sangria for the drink. This was absolutely refreshing. And paired really well with the meal! Overall, have a good night with friends/family. When it's a celebration, or just wanting a night out and want to treat yourself, do it!

It's all about the chef! Some are great others are less desirable. We came twice this month and the two experiences were very different. The last visit was excellent! But overall, it's still one of our favorite places.

I've been eating at Benihana's since I was a kid - that's almost 3 decades now. It shows you the staying power that Benihana beholds. And for as long as I have been eating at various Benihana locations, I've never had a bad experience. It is one of the most consistent restaurants I know regardless of location or the chef cooking your meal. They always bring great food, great service, and great entertainment. The only thing I can complain about is the cost but it is what it is - inflation has affected everything, especially when it comes to eating out. But at Benihana, you gotta remember that you are paying for more than just food, you're paying for the entire package which includes the service, the experience and the entertainment. I ate here a couple days ago and we were assigned a chef by the name of Oscar aka Chefsito. He may be young but he brings the energy and the fun, and most importantly he knows how to handle the grill like a vet. He apparently started from the bottom as a busboy when he was a teenager, then promoted to a line cook and now he's a chef. Any future parties would be lucky to get him as their cook. All in all, my friends and I were satisfied and we look forward to celebrating another occasion here.

Benihana - Anaheim Reviews in Other Languages

Ask the Community - Benihana - Anaheim

    What to order?

I like the Miso Black Cod or the Salmon. Wife likes the Filet Mignon or the Sirloin and Mushrooms. Both if us upgrade to the Hibachi Rice. I also occasionally like to add scallops.

How do I get a birthday coupon?

Sign up on their website. Please note - it is NOT honored on weekends!

Can anything be done to reduce the amount of salt they add to the meal?

There is LOW sodium soy sauce as an alternative

    Are they open for dine-in?

Yes. I cannot stress enough to make a reservation.

Do you do anything for birthdays?

Yes! Benihana is BIG on birthdays! The staff sings happy birthday in Japanese and also gives you a free photo with a frame! Adults - if you sign up on their website you receive the chefs table $30 bday discount and kids receive a free mug!

Are they taking reservations right now?

Yes he can call them directly and make a reservation or you can go on the OpenTable app and make a reservation

When will you guys open again?

They are open for take out only right now.

If I reserve through OpenTable will I get the teppanyaki experience?

Yes When You check in just let them know. If you're pressed for time they have tables by the sushi that offer the same menu except it is cooked in the back

What's the whole purpose of making a reservation if we still have to wait about 25 mins to be seated?

Reservations do get priority seating however, there are instances where parties linger or stay longer than anticipated so that may be a factor that delays seating reservations in a timely manner! Also there are occasions when only reservations are…

How much is the five course meal?

I got the Splash & Meadow I believe it was $44

How much more is the fried rice with the teppan meal?

I believe it was an extra 4 dollars.

If a party of two show up and use the birthday certificate...one orders steak/shrimp meal and the other orders steak/lobster meal, will the steak/lobster be free since that's the meal being ordered for the birthday certificate?

They will credit your bill $30 towards the highest priced meal on the receipt. The Birthday certificate is only valid Monday- Thursday.

How much the 5 course meal?

The price varies depending which protein you choose starting with chicken m about $19 a plate on our way to the surf and turf about $39 a plate

It is necessarily for lunch reservation?

No not necessary if you get there close to opening time but any later than noon I would highly recommend.

Roughly how much should I expect to pay per person?

Lunch is available till 3 on. If you order from lunch menu. Prices average about $15 per person plus drinks. Dinner is a bit more with the average being $40 per person not including drinks.

What times are their weekday lunch specials active?

    Till 3 pm

    Do they have senior discounts?

Unfortunately not... but they do offer $30 off for your bday month. You must sign up at Benihana.com at least a few days in advance before your visit!

We chose the dining room seating rather than the teppanyaki tables. The staff did offer us the teppanyaki experience, but since we don't eat red meat or chicken from certain places and weren't sure how the food preparation process worked with mixed ingredients, we opted for a regular table instead. One downside was the seating arrangement. We were seated away from most of the other guests, and it often felt like the staff forgot we were there. Our original host/server was attentive and friendly, but once they were busy with other tasks, it became difficult to get assistance. It was also not busy for a Tuesday evening. We found ourselves waiting for long periods or having to wave someone down, which wasn't ideal, especially for a birthday dinner. A solid sushi roll. * Garlic Edamame (4/5): Flavorful and exactly what you'd expect from a good appetizer. * Lobster Duo with Miso Soup, Salad, and Fried Rice (3/5): Unfortunately, the lobster was quite chewy and seemed overcooked. The miso soup and fried rice were both enjoyable and helped make up for it. * Unagi Donburi (4/5): My husband's meal came with white rice, miso soup, salad, and fried rice. It was his first time trying eel, and he really enjoyed the soft texture and flavor. He said he'd definitely order it again. Our biggest disappointment was the timing of the food. The Unagi Donburi arrived significantly later than everything else. By the time it came out, we had already eaten most of the appetizers and other dishes and were pretty full. It's unfortunate because it seemed like a dish that would have been much better enjoyed fresh, but we ended up taking most of it home. Overall, the food ranged from good to very good, and being able to reserve through Resy and use our Amex dining benefit definitely helped offset the cost. However, considering the price point, we expected more attentive service and better pacing of the meal.

Right across from Disneyland, our night ended with an up close view of the Disneyland fireworks. Everything tasted amazing. We ordered the Nori and Cheese Fries, Tofu Seafood Salad, 2 Double Shrimp Tempura Rolls, Rainbow Roll, Spicy Salmon Roll, and Spicy Tuna Roll. My mouth is watering from writing this review... The rolls were large, flavorful, and had good amounts of fish. High quality fish here. My personal favorites were the salmon and tuna rolls. The salmon was rich and fatty. The spicy tuna had a mild kick of spice, making it enjoyable for almost any spice tolerance. I noticed the wasabi and soy sauce were milder than what I'm used to. A photographer comes by each table to take pictures. They offer 4 framed photos for purchase and give you 1 free printed photo with a QR code to purchase the digital copies. We decided not to purchase any of the photos. Seating options include sushi bar/counter seating and tables. Tables are separated by bamboo dividers, providing a more private dining experience. This restaurant was moderately busy during dinner on a Friday night. Service was timely and staff were attentive. Our waters were regularly refilled and they checked on our table throughout our meal. The restaurant fully validates parking here. Don't forget to get your ticket validated!

It ended up being much more casual than we expected, with an atmosphere that felt like stepping into a restaurant from the '90s inside an older hotel. Not necessarily a bad thing--just different from what we had in mind for a birthday dinner. That said, the food was excellent and definitely the reason we'd come back. I also really enjoyed their selection of Japanese-inspired beers, which paired perfectly with the meal and were a fun addition to the experience. We started with the spicy edamame, which was good, though not a showstopper. The Chef's 10-piece nigiri was the highlight of the meal. Every piece was fresh and delicious, but the yellowtail and unagi were absolute standouts. We also ordered the spicy salmon roll, which was really good, and the double shrimp tempura roll, which was exactly what you want from a tempura roll--you really can't go wrong with it. Our server was very kind and friendly, but service wasn't especially attentive. It seemed like they may have been understaffed, so there were longer waits between check-ins than we would have liked. Overall, I'd definitely come back for the food and drinks. If you're looking for high-quality sushi and don't mind a nostalgic, old-school atmosphere, Hanagi is worth checking out. Just go in expecting excellent food rather than a luxurious dining experience.

Ahi roll was good needs something to punch it up like a little citrusy addition. Also tried the Parmesan truffle fries; comes with Togarashi seasoning which was spicy and overpowering. The Togarashi was not a good "flavor" (IMO) just too hot. I was not too keen on the breading crisp on the fries. I like fries to be cut straight from the potato with no additional outer coating to make it crispy. Drinks were very good but mine was a little sweeter than needed. I even asked for the simple syrup to be removed before I ordered. The coconut puree is just a tad too sweet but the mojito was still delicious. Elliott had a martini.. very strong but also delicious. They were very accommodating regarding substitutions. We had the Kalbi New York Strip Steak and the Shellfish Combo, a festive pineapple martini, the pineapple upside down cake, and the lava cake. It was pricey, but worth it. Our server, Kyana, was so kind and knowledgeable. She said that she had worked there for several years , which was evident with how well she knew the menu. It was because she was so good that I paid the 5% wellness fee in addition to tipping her well. However, I was able to calculate my own tip and even though I wanted to be generous, my percentage was less than the suggested percentage. While many establishments do this, I noticed the suggested tip was based on the total, which included the tax, in addition to the wellness fee. I believe in a living wage and wellness for all employees, but I don't want to be tricked into it. Roy's also does not validate parking anymore. One hour is free, however, we know it takes longer to enjoy your meal at a place like Roy's.

I had the salmon and avocado handroll as well as the crab handroll. Both were good. I also had the OC roll and grilled salmon -- also very good. Some Asian places tend to overcook their meat. The salmon was cooked well ... I would have preferred a tad more rare, but it was good and not dry. My son had the salmon sashimi as well as lamb chops. He wanted a little more seasoning in the lamb chops but says they were cooked well. I think Japanese food tends to be conservatively seasoned in general. Other dishes also looked good. I thought everything was good but didn't think anything was amazing. My wife particularly appreciated that just about all of the menu items had pictures! Service was good and friendly even though they all seemed a little harried.
