    They are ready!

I took my daughter and her two best friends to Benihana for a special night out, and it ended up being one of the best decisions ever. It's not always easy to get kids genuinely excited about going out to eat, but from the moment we sat down, they were completely engaged. The chef kept them entertained the entire time with the live cooking, fire tricks, and fun jokes. They were smiling nonstop and are still talking about how amazing the experience was days later. The food was delicious, perfectly cooked, and kid approved across the board. The service was also excellent, attentive, friendly, and patient with three excited girls at the table. One of my favorite touches was the kids menu that folds into a chef's hat. Such a cute and thoughtful detail that made the night feel even more special and interactive. If you're looking for a fun, memorable dinner experience for kids and adults alike, this is it. We'll definitely be back.

I've gone to this place several times when I'm craving good food with a show. The chief likes to put plenty of butter which makes the food very tasty. I had a steak and lobster tail and it was cooked perfectly. The service is always good, manager comes to check to make sure things are well. The only downfall is it's overpriced.

    Dine-in Lunch Duet

I don't leave negative reviews but this was not okay. I was so disappointed with the consistency of dining in and take-out. My family saw the deal for the Mother's Day gift card promotion they were offering and decided to purchase them. The promotion is if you buy a $200 gift card, you get a $60 gift card back. The $60 gift card can't be used until after a certain day in May so we had $200 to spend on a lunch. We decided to get take-out on Monday (04/13) and got the lunch duet for 4 people. The total came out to be $151 and that's a pretty hefty amount to be spending on lunch alone and we expected the same portions as dine-in. We were so wrong. When we received the order, it looked like it was a kid's meal. A lunch duet is usually 2 different protein choices, soup or salad, fried rice, and a side of grilled zucchini and onions. For 3/4 of the lunch duets, we wanted chicken fried rice and it was $1 additional add-on to the total. There wasn't a single piece of chicken in our fried rice. The amount of protein we received was not okay. I got the scallops and calamari and I'd say there were only 2 full pieces of scallops that were cut into small pieces so it looked like there were a lot. The calamari looked like half of a full one. I think there was a total of 8 pieces of scallops and calamari in total. Even my boyfriend's chicken and steak julienne portions were insanely small. For a steak julienne, there's supposed to be sauce and onions on it. Lo and behold, dry steak with no sauce or onions. We still had some money left-over so my dad and I decided to go in person to test out our theory, dine-in and get more. Our theory was in fact correct. We probably received double the portions. I got four whole scallops and a full calamari steak with my order. The amount of rice we got was insane. It was probably the total amount of all four of our portions for just one person. We also got a lot more zucchini and onions with our individual order. We sat at the bar and the service was amazing. Even though there were 4 tables and only one server/bartender, he was amazing and attentive. I don't think there should be a bias for quantity control when it comes to dine-in vs. take-out. Customers pay the same price regardless of deciding to eat at home or at the restaurant. Definitely dine-in if you decide to eat at Benihana.

    Fried rice and hibachi steak

There's mall parking to get here. This one is located by the food court outside of the mall itself. There's plenty of seating. The noise level is decent considering all the action happening. The staff are loads of fun and really friendly. Our chef was good and did all tricks and gags expected. This is great place to take friends and family for a special event. I only got the hibachi steak. This comes with 5 courses. The salad was okay but not my choice of lettuce cuts. The onion soup was decent. The mushrooms were great. Lots of these dishes have loads of a garlic butter. You definitely taste it. The steak was cooked to medium rare like how I ordered it. The fried rice was good with plenty of chicken pieces. I also got to try some ice cream which was colder than expected but good.

Quick and easy spot! Walked in at 1PM on a Monday and only had about a 10-minute wait. Got the Power Meal for 2 and ordered the NY strip for just $4 more. Totally worth it! The chef was super kind, quick, and cooked everything perfectly. For $44 total, the portions and flavors made it a great deal. They even gave us a free photo, which was a nice touch. Would definitely come back!

    NY strip power lunch

We came in around 1pm for the Power Lunch. We ordered the NY strip. Food came out quick and the quality was as to be expected at Benihana. The NY strip was surprisingly sizable, especially for the price. It came with a side salad and rice. Service was super quick, and we were in and out in under an hour. We would definitely come back for the great deal.

My husband and I haven't been here since pre COVID. We finally came here on a weekday night with our toddler. The chef was great with our toddler. She loves the food and show. The food was great, just like how I remember. The chef was wonderful and staff was attentive. Definitely will be back! Pro tip- make sure to make reservation in advance. Quite busy when we went. Good thing we made reservation.

We visited Benihana, a party of 7, and unfortunately, this was the worst experience we've ever had at this restaurant. The service was extremely poor. Our waitress was not attentive at all. We were only told they were out of Yum Yum sauce after my daughter requested it three times, and by then, the food had already finished being made. The portioning by the cook was also unacceptable. One person in our party received only four pieces of chicken, which is completely unreasonable given the price of the meal. We informed the staff at least five times that it was my daughter's birthday. Meanwhile, there were three other birthday celebrations around us that were acknowledged and sung to, while my daughter's birthday was ignored, which was very disappointing. Because of ongoing issues with both the service and the bill, the manager had to be called over three times. Unfortunately, even the manager messed up the bill multiple times, adding to the frustration. The only positive note is that the members of our party who ordered hibachi and received the correct order said the food was seasoned well. However, good seasoning does not make up for the overall lack of service and poor experience. Overall, this visit fell far below the standards we expected from Benihana. This was truly a very disappointing experience.

Truth is !! I came here many times for birthday celebrations , but I do not come here often. The food was decent which I always feel!! However, our chef xavi was phenomenal!! He was very friendly, humorous, and entertaining. They have happy hour 3-6 pm with food and drinks specials. I had the mai tie and chili shrimp rolls that were the best!!! I also just ordered the a la carte lobster tail. The ambiance is cool and it was very crowded for a Wednesday night!! I don't come here, but I will come back for happy hour! -Marshay D.

The hostess greeted us and asked my dad and I a question when we entered. I should've said "in a moment" but stayed quiet. My mom entered and asked if she could check the gift card amount because my mom didn't know the amount. The hostess explained the it had to be done online. The hostess said we could choose anywhere we want to sit at the right side of the restaurant. We sat near the bar. There were floor to ceiling windows which helped with lighting. There was music playing on the loudspeaker. My mom had a problem with the hostess because she seemed like she hated her job or because of her demeanor. I mean a lot of gen Z does because jobs don't pay well, hours are long, there could be labor violations happening behind the scenes, there aren't many or any benefits, etc. The gen Z stare exists. If she's millennial or gen X I'm sorry for assuming what gen she belongs to. At least the waiter was more positive. He answered our questions about the multiple course meal my dad got. The Benihana menu seems small to me, I ordered the shrimp crunchy roll. The other items had 5 or so courses so it was pricey. I usually stick to restaurants with lower price points and with one entree and side or just one entree. Unfortunately, waiter came back and said that the sushi had to be remade for my mom's order. It took 15 or so minutes for it to be completed. Her order didn't come with wasabi or ginger. For my dad's order, the shrimp tempura didn't come with soy sauce. I got my crunchy shrimp rolls in 10 min or so. The amount of rolls was fair for the price. It's made up of imitation crab and tempura. It was delicious. An employee came and took our empty plates and utensils away. Finally the server came back and gave us our receipt and the card processor. My mom paid with the gift card and also a credit card. First he had to process the gift card then we could pay the rest with the credit card.

We came here for my birthday celebration. I was able to use the $30 off reward applied towards a purchase that was sent to me. You sign up for membership and they will email you the coupon about one month in advance. I got the Japanese A5 waygu this time. The meat melted in my mouth. I loved it! I also love their chicken fried rice. I do this every year for my birthday. It's always fun as you get a show and a meal. Sometimes the wait can be very long . Last night wasn't bad and Brandon, our server and Servado our chef took good care of us!

I honestly wish I could give this restaurant zero stars. My partner made a reservation for us on Valentine's Day to create a special memory, after I had a traumatic experience at another restaurant years ago. I traveled all the way from Riverside, about an hour just to get to this location hoping for a special evening. But instead, we waited an hour and a half with no service at all, despite having reservations. I went to the manager personally because I hoped we could resolve this quietly before I had to write this review, but he brushed us off. He gave us a small discount, as if that would suffice, but it didn't. We told him this was unprecedented ,we'd never had such an inconvenience. I asked him if he truly believed that what he did was enough, and he said yes. I told him that I expected a different outcome ,that they would fully cover this terrible experience, because it was just that bad. And to make matters worse, once we got our receipt, not only was our bill wrong, but the neighboring couple also had an extra charge ,they both had to return their receipts to the waitress to fix. I ordered a drink, and the first time it arrived, it was fine, but the second time, they ran out of milk ,so I was left with an extra charge and no drink. We planned this evening around other reservations later that day, and because of all this chaos, our entire night was derailed. I expected them to fully cover the terrible experience, but none of that happened. As a first-time customer, I left feeling broken-hearted, as if my trust in this restaurant was shattered. And to top it off, the chef threw his spatula by accident, and food even came flying toward me. This was supposed to be a special, joyful night, and instead, it was a complete disaster. I expected a follow-up, a sincere apology, and full compensation for what we went through ,but none came. I hope this feedback is taken seriously so that no other customer has to go through this. I will never return here. I already submitted to the website & Nothing happens. DO NOT ASK ME TO GO ONTO THE WEBSITE . NOTHING HAS HAPPENS. Contact Everyone Directly. Very unprofessional establishment

    The " MANAGER" TERRI...

My family and I have been loyal customers of this Benihana in San Diego for years. We have celebrated our anniversary there, my grandkids' birthdays, and even held business meetings there, which is why what happened on March 21, 2026, was so heartbreaking. We had a reservation for 8 people at 7:15 p.m. for Teppan seating and checked in immediately. The front host, who I believe may have been named Demi, was exceptional. She was welcoming, attentive, playful with my grandkids, and even took our family picture. She made us feel appreciated from the moment we arrived. Unfortunately, once we were seated, the entire experience changed. Our waitress came to the table aggressively and pushed us to order drinks and food immediately "in one shot." As we ordered, she repeatedly commented that it was "too much food," asked if we were going to share, and even told my daughter to split my grandkids' plate. That alone made all of us uncomfortable. The worst moment came when I ordered a Perfect Piña Margarita for my wife, which was going to be shared with my wife and daughter. When the waitress returned with an extra glass, she tried to pour the drink at the table. In the process, part of it spilled onto the hot table, creating steam, and we could all clearly see the liquid running down the outside of the glass, over her hand, between her fingers, and dripping from her nails into my daughter's glass. We were shocked. I told her that was not right, and she simply walked away. Later, when I tried to add a lobster tail, she again told us it was "too much food," as though she had authority to decide what we could order. At that point, my family was already upset and had lost our appetite. I asked to speak with the manager. The night manager, Terri, arrived already confrontational, cut me off while I was explaining the situation, and defended the waitress by saying that many people order food they cannot pay for. I found that remark deeply offensive. I felt my family was being stereotyped and discriminated against, possibly because we are Hispanic. When I told her that was not right and that I would be speaking with management, she replied, "I am the manager," and then told us in front of other tables to clear the table. We left humiliated, heartbroken, and disgusted. Another server gave us the number to report the incident and said this was not the first time. After years of supporting this restaurant, I never expected my family to be treated this way.

    Is there a lunch menu?

Yes there is ,they have a lunch menu

We are a party of 6. Will we have to sit with people we don't know?

    Yes, table fits 8 people

Is it the same price if you sit at a regular table, without the show?

Yes it is, might as well do the show

Do you have teppanyaki for lunch or dinner only?

    Yes

Do you still have lunch special?

Yes but but not more special than usual

Do they still cook in front of you?

Yep, this location did. However i have visited other tappan places and the chef cooked at a table where there were no customers..good question

Can I buy gift cards there at the restaurant?

    Yes

Are you allowed to share? Or does everyone need to get their own order

You are able to share! You may also order side orders such as steak etc..

Is lunch menu served daily? What are the lunch hours? I want to try it but not sure I want to pay dinner price if I don't know how it is to begin with.

The lunch menu is served daily. You will need to call the location that you want to visit to find out the lunch hours. The prices for lunch will be cheaper than dinner, however your choices will also be limited compared to dinner. Look at the menu… Read more

A friend of mine, Laura and her husband Ternaded lived closeby. Arcadia, to be exact. We met up there and got a very nice welcome from the host by the name of Leilani. She took us to the grill where they make Teppanyaki food. It's very similar to Benihana style. We were seated with another wonderful family and enjoyed our time together. Got to know each other and had a nice conversation. I ordered their Cut Spicy Tuna Roll, (15.25), Tokyo Imperial (52.50), which came with Miso Soup, Salad with their yummy ginger dressing, Shrimp, healthy sautéed vegetables and Filet Mignon. They were both kind and sweet. Our chef Luis made all of us a PERFECT MEAL! He was a bit quiet, but did a FANTASTIC JOB! Place was kind of empty for a Saturday night. The reason for that is that they close at 9pm. They also have a lunch menu. Since we got there at 8pm, we were being a bit rushed. Not their fault, rules are rules and we need to follow them. I had the filet and chicken combination, with chicken liver as my appetizer. Overall, everything was good. The chicken breast was slightly overcooked and a bit tough, but I would much rather have well-done chicken than risk it being undercooked. The chicken liver was surprisingly good, especially considering it was only my second time ever having it. The dinner presentation was nice, as always. A bit cheesy, but entertaining. Service was somewhat lacking. I asked for water twice and never received it, and eventually had to flag down a server from another table. We also requested to-go containers and never received those either. I will mention something that did not affect my rating, since I understand this is simply how the restaurant operates. If your party is not large enough to fill a station, you will share a table with another group. As I mentioned, the family seated with us had two small children, one of whom cried for most of the meal. As anyone knows, the sound of a crying child can be quite piercing and obnoxious, so it is just something to keep in mind. All in all, it was still a fun experience, and we will definitely be back.

My niece has been raving about this place forevs and every time I try to order, they're either…read moreclosed or not taking orders for delivery. Yesterday I tried to order and it was closed so I went with my usual 323 Hibachi on Wheels (go see my review). Even though I ordered two plates yesterday - you don't become Elite unless you exhibit "big back" eating tendencies lol - I was still craving more hibachi, especially steak. So here I go again trying to order from this place and they weren't taking orders. Persistence paid off and they finally opened up the delivery option. I got the steak and shrimp plate. The steak was tenderly cooked and not chewy. The shrimp were perfectly cooked and they were not rubbery. The veggies came with a nice assortment of zucchini, onions, bell peppers and mushrooms; however, they could have used a little more salt/pepper and/or butter (I think they may have been sautéed in oil). The rice was perfection and this girl loves her fried rice. Note that they put scallions on top of the rice/meat portion as well as on the shrimp in case you have an allergy (I don't recall seeing that mentioned when I was ordering). As for the sauces, my go to is the "pink sauce". They offer a spicy version (the Joker) and a non-spicy version. The spicy version is too spicy for me but it was doable and the other one was too bland. I was disappointed with their version of "pink sauce" but their garlic butter and ginger sauce (which I never use) made up for the disappointment. Definitely go with the garlic butter and ginger sauce. I dip all of my hibachi in sauce and don't conform to what sauce goes with what - I conform to what my tastebuds like. While this was a very nice portion for the price, ya girl ate nearly everything and I had already eaten about an hour prior lol. Zero control when it comes to yummy food. This is definitely a place to get your hibachi on and gets a yummy in your tummy rating. One recommendation for the restaurant: For deliveries, I suggest stapling a receipt or something to that effect so the recipient can tell if the delivery person accessed the food/opened the bag and potentially tampered with the food. In this day and age, one can't be too safe.

I opted for the steak + shrimp combination in garlic butter with all noodles. I should've done the half and half but thankfully there was some rice in my order that I was able to get a taste. The flavors are everything and I thought the portion size of the meal was good. I was surprised at the amount of food, although the price correlates well. I felt like there was good value in the price to proportion and good food! As a pro-tip, I ordered in advance via phone and was able to walk right up, pick up my food and pay. Easy peasy. I can't wait to come back... I'm almost attempted to go tonight!

You probably don't need a reservation coming in here on a weekday night, but it's good to be extra safe to do so haha. We were seated on the farther side, which honestly the partition makes it kinda harder to flag someone down. It does feel more intimate and enclosed with the partition being pretty high, but harder to flag someone down lol. The restaurant is also pretty small as well, but most of the servers were on the side where the kitchen was. We ordered the chefs recommendation along with the wasabi octopus. My bf also got a couple of beers in, so the total for two came out to be 200 with tip. As expected if you're dining for a wagyu experience. All components of the set came out fairly quickly. Starting off with the appetizers, which I wasn't too much into the cold meats but the one with the salad tasted better. Then came with the meat with sukiyaki, this one was pretty nice, but not the best I have tried in my opinion. Then came the meats for the grill, I wasn't sure which one was which, but I enjoyed the one that was shorter and more square as oppose to the rectangular looking one lol. The grilled meats were really good! I did also really enjoy how the banchan was very fresh. Then came the bibimbap which was also really good! I appreciate how there's a lot of nori in it, so it makes it so flavorful. Overall, it was a great experience dining here! I heard this place was here before Chubby Cattle, and in my opinon, I do think I enjoyed the food at Chubby Cattle more, but I liked how it wasn't as overstimulating. Especially it's not too loud, nor flashy, nor the overwhelming amount of food options, so it's a nice change of pace of a wagyu experience. I also asked if they celebrate birthdays here, which they got to bring over a frozen cheesecake that tasted like it was bought at the Japanese market next door lol.
