On August 21st, I visited this establishment after my previous visit to Benihana, which was exceptional from the entrance to the interior. However, this time, the service was subpar. Berry, the bartender, did his best, but the other bartender was overly bossy and unhelpful, regardless of whether Berry admitted to it or not. We arrived at Benihana around 4:30 PM and immediately sat down at the bar. Berry took care of us promptly until he was overwhelmed, and the other bartender did not offer any assistance, speak to us, or provide us with a menu, even though the happy hour menu was already displayed on the bar. While Berry was preparing drinks for other patrons, the other bartender was assisting with the outside area, but he never offered us a menu to order or inquired if we had any preferences. After 30 minutes of being unaware of our situation, we decided to leave without tipping and only paid for our two drinks. As we were leaving, the front desk staff asked us to return, but we informed them that the service was terrible and that they had nothing else to say. read more

Went to Benihana for dinner with a friend on Thursday, 7/2. I appreciated the great service provided by Ty, our server and Vic our chef. They were both professional, attentive and pleasant. Vic did a great job keeping the grill clean as he cooked and preparing the food very well. Ty was great in anticipating our needs before we needed to ask. Water glasses stayed filled, take home containers and bags brought to the table. Overall they made an awesome team! I hope they get recognition for their awesome service. read more

The food was TERRIBLE!!! What was up with the chopped up cold lobster? Was the chef eating it in the back as he cooked it? 1 scallop was cooked entirely, the rest raw, I spit the second out and the remaining smelled fishy like walking into a carniseria. The fried chicken rice had chucks of chicken not the chopped up delicious mixture i am used to. The veggis were not a sad onion with 2 small nibbles of zucchini. The shrimp was rubbery and mild to cold temperature. Franky our waiter was hustling and doing an amazing job waiting the people seated at the bar. ordered delivery and I was disappointed on how the food was prepared. All the vegetables were burnt and when I say the portion size they gave was literally a pinch of vegetables not even a handful. Having a $180 order and to receive it the way it was prepared was not okay. when I called they told me I had to file a complaint with Uber Eats, however there issue wasn't with the delivery it was the with the restaurant directly. Uber eat doesn't cook the food. Also, not being able to get a hold of a manager or have a manager reach out about a complaint after 48 hours is unacceptable. read more

Horrible experience. Got a gift card and took my girlfriend here for Valentine's Day. Reservation was for 7 pm. Got there at 6:30; was not seated until 7:30. When we were seated, we were cramped. Staff kept running into my girlfriend who was a sitting duck at the end of the table. It took another 20 minutes to get a drink order taken. Food finally came around 8:30, and we didn't leave until 9:36 pm. I'm type 1 diabetic....not acceptable AT ALL. Every item brought to the table was defective in some way. Napkin had a hole in it. Straws were all bent. Ice cream was melted. We each ordered the Samurai Feast which is filet mignon and shrimp; we each received 5 shrimp. No apologies or accountability. I don't think I've ever felt like a restaurant owes me anything for free. This one did. The rice, the beer and at least half the price of one of the dishes should have been complements of the house. The gift card was for $150, the meal cost $163.90 and it wasn't worth $80 given the massive waste of our time. It was such a terrible experience that I left no tip, don't feel guilty about it in the slightest, and don't think I'll ever go back to a Benihana again. read more

So we sit down/ another hour goes by no food, no drinks. I have kids they are melting down. So after an hour he comes back and says they are out of the wine we've ordered- no problem. we order another- 15 mins goes by he comes back and they are also out of that. we order another - also out- he finally says we are out of all white wine- we go to the bar- they have white wine! 2.5 hours and my kids finally get their food- it's just a mess. I arrived at 7 PM, and I have to say, parking was a challenge. After checking in, the front desk informed me that there was a 30-minute wait. After that time passed, I approached the desk again, only to be told there were still 20 party's ahead of me, and it was now 8:30. Ordered take out at 8:30 pm for a 9:00 pm and they assigned pick up the time. I waited until 9:15 pm, then inquired again. The very sweet girl in take out said they would not had one chef, and to call lease be patient. So, I did. 9:30, 9:45, and now 10:00 pm. I was livid, and asked for the manager. They had my partial order of filet and scallops meal for two and a chicken and shrimp meal for two was not ready, both with chicken friend rice. By 10:15 pm, I asked the manager for a full refund and he said I could not keep the food. At that point I agreed because the food looked terrible and with 1/2 of my order ready, I know it was going to be cold or over cooked. The manger took 20 minutes to refund my order, but could refund the chicken and shrimp dinner. The manager said I should call my credit card company to file a dispute because he wasn't able. I've been to this Benihana for years over a decade and since then it has definitely gone downhill. I don't know if it's under New management or new owners over the establishment, but it really lacks luster, customer service, cleanliness, and professionalism. The food business is not a easy business to work in. I am truly aware of that, but I feel like a lot of the employees really need great training when it comes to accommodations, communication and memory of what the guest ordered, and requests... My last visit was in June 2026. I wanted a new fork because the silverware was not clean. I gave it to my server Isis and I had to wait 30 minutes to receive a new utensil to eat with. I reminded her a few times that she passed to help other tables and granted it was busy, but that's not the only issue. I ordered an appetizer and waited another 35 minutes. I had to ask about the appetizer and was finally told after asking twice that it was past happy hour time and I couldn't receive what I ordered 35 minutes before happy hour was over. The table was celebrating two birthdays. We told the server ahead of time but she still brought over a receipt without the birthday meals deducted. She was reminded we gave her our information and she asked for it again. We waited 20 minutes for her to come back to say it wasn't working. We waited for the manager to come over, that was another 20 minutes. He asked the right questions. Gave him the same information I gave isis and magically it went through. The birthday awards need to go back to the way it was with the certificate. It was much easier. Also, no one took a photo of us like they used to do in the past for birthdays. This location has a new reputation of racism, discrimination, unprofessionalism and not so well trained staff. What I've been witnessing has shed some truth on the reputation. Extremely disappointing visit over the weekend. Made a 7:30 reservation to eat with some out of town friends (party of 6). We got to the restaurant just after 7:00, not expecting to be seated but just to check in. Upon check in, we were informed that there was a 45 minute wait on top of the reservation time. I completely understand not being seated before our reservation time, and even waiting a few minutes after, but having to wait that long past our reservation time?? What's the point of the reservation? By the time they were ready to seat us, it was 8:30. Then by the time the chef came to our table to start the appetizers, it was already 9:30. If people make a reservation for a certain time, either please honor the time or be upfront about all the extra waiting. We probably should have just left in hindsight, but wanted our friends to experience Benihana. To top it all off, they forgot my side of rice at the table. Not sure if I'll be returning. read more

We have been long time customers of Benihana and unfortunately the service has not improved in the last 5 years. During this visit we were seated within 10 minutes of our reservation however we had to wait over 10 minutes at our table before the waiter showed up. The menu was changed since our last visit and we miss the Land and Sea offering that was taken off the menu. The food and the performance of our chef remain consistent over the years so that is a positive. One other item of note...the hibachi steak was very tender indicating an improved cut of beef being served. Overall good food but not so good service. read more

I've dined here over a dozen times over the years. Not only for the food but for the show. I brought along two guests and the table filled up with a large family who are also "regular" diners here. Our chef came over and it was immediately apparent he was new and looked uncomfortable. He had almost no energy or enthusiasm. My guests, who had never dined here before, didn't notice the issue right away. But they saw chefs at other tables and later asked me why our chef was "so dull." Since the show part of the meal is almost always the same, I noticed skits they were absent and which were taking place at all the other tables. The food was pretty good with a couple of exceptions. The chicken was overcooked and tough to eat. The vegetables were cooked perfectly. But during the meal my enjoyment level was diminished by the chef's inexperience and poor performance. After the meal was finished and the chef left the other folks ("regulars") at our table had a lot to say. For example, "He needs more training," and "I hope he's not our chef next time." Another issue was the wait time. We had a 6:30 reservation but we couldn't be seated until more people arrived. This was dining on a week day and it was another 30 minutes until the chef arrived. We noticed other tables around us filled up well after we arrived and their chefs were busy at least 15 minutes before our chef arrived. We're not impatient. Point being we were all staring at each other while others were being served. I'm not saying it was a total loss but was just disappointing as compared to past experiences. read more

Wow, just Wow. What a HUGE disappointment. CON: We have been going to this restaurant at least twice a month for the last year - but tonight will be our last. We went to happy hour, which we have not been to for at least 6 weeks or so during this timeframe. We ordered what we generally do - shrimp tempura and dumplings. Surprised to find out that both of these now have HALF the portion they had just 6 weeks ago for the same price. Dumplings (not even homemade and small were 6 to an order - now three so $2 each) - are you kidding! Same for shrimp - three instead of six! I can understand gradually shrinking the portion or upping the price but to go half with same price from six weeks ago - that's just not right. We also thought it was odd that there were no other customers at the bar - with a FIFA game on at happy hour! I guess others have figured out that it's just not worth the trip - so we will go spend our money elsewhere in Torrance. Lots of other places with far better value. Whoever made this 50% reduction in happy hour portions really didn't think this through if you now have no customers at the bar. I have fond memories of coming to Benihana years ago. I wish this visit was better, but it was not. I made a reservation but we had to wait about 20 minutes anyway. Not a problem. We had a drink in the bar. The bartender was so charming. The time flew by. When we were seated, there was another family at the hibachi table. We enjoyed watching their kids get excited about the whole experience. The problem is that we waited almost an hour for our chef to come. I heard our waitress mention that they were short staffed. The chef was really funny. He had a good time entertaining the kids. I guess my issue is with how the food was served. I ordered the chicken with fried rice and grilled veggies. The grilled veggies was a slice of zucchini. It was delish but not enough! Fried rice was also great. My husband got the chicken and steak. It cost $20 more but the value just wasn't there. We're glad to come back to this Benihana restaurant in Torrance. We had stopped coming here a while back because the service was bad. We always had to look for our server to get refills on our drinks or to add appetizers to our dinner. My family and I decided to come here for dinner tonight to celebrate two birthdays. Our chef Andre was great, he was funny and very skilled with his cooking tools giving us a great cooking show. Our server Silva was awesome! She was very nice and polite. Silva was on top of everything, we never had to ask her for refills on our drinks and she was constantly checking on our table to make sure we didn't need anything. Benihana is ALWAYS a good time. Fun atmosphere, great food and a great show! Came here for lunch for their lunch special which is daily from 11am-3pm. I've been coming here for years for family and friends bdays and it just can't be beat! I love how tender their filet mignon is and the chicken fried rice? Don't sleep on it! They make it with their house made garlic butter and the smell is so mesmerizing Ryan was my server this most recent time and she was sweet and accommodating. Try to get her as a server if you can One thing that turned me off was when oil started dripping from the hood/vent as I was about to start eating my food. My wife called in a pick up order before they even opened. Pulled up and there were quite a few people there waiting on their orders. Asked the first waiter how long was my order going to be? She said I'll check on it. I believe her name was Allison. Waiting on my order I started talking to some of the customer's that were waiting on their orders. A gentleman said he put in the order 24 hrs ahead of time. He waited a little over an hour and when he got his order Allison forgot most of his order. Good thing he double checked before he left. So as I was waiting I couldn't help notice the staff was dressed inappropriate. Talking with vulgar language. Pants hanging halfway down his rear. By the way the gentleman that didn't get his whole order was accommodated with a gift card. I waited about an hour for my food. I ordered a hibachi burrito and my wife ordered a hibachi bowl. A different waiter came by and I asked about my order and he said he'll check on it. 20 min later my food came. I asked Allison for the yum yum sauce and she replied we don't have anymore. I said ok do you have any other options? She replied with I don't know. I asked for her name and she replied rudely with "i don't have to give you my name" and proceeded to walk away. I got a hold of a manager and I complained to him about her seemed like he just brushed it off and didn't even say sorry or accommodate me. I don't know if it's cuz my wife was a female but that was not the way to handle that situation. Allison needs to go back to learning customer service. I understand we go through some situations because I'm a bus driver for Metro for 25 yrs so I know customer service! Allison forgot my salad that's supposed to come with my burrito. If you make a reservation expect to be seated 30-1 hour later. They say they are overbooked and have no control over reservations.

The fam bam enjoys celebrating birthdays at this location (don't forget to print out your $30 birthday gift certificate!). The staff is friendly. The wait is reasonable (even with reservation, other locations have made me wait 30-40 minutes). Parking is easy. The dining room is clean. The bathrooms are clean, however, they should invest in new bathroom doors. Food is always delicious. This particular time we dined, the chef was very personable and considerate of my two toddlers. It was a grad night , so they deserve some slack for the long wait even though we had a reservation. They obviously overbooked. Came here for a birthday dinner with family and basically had our night ruined. We had a reservation for 4 people for 7:15 and were still waiting to be seated by 8pm. We didn't sit until almost 8:30. The hostesses at the front were clearly overwhelmed--this is a system issue and it was not their fault. It is clear the table seating system needs a complete overhaul. The staff noted that there was no seating time limit at the hibachi table, which made reservations run later and later. Once we were eventually seated, the party we were seated with had spent their time waiting at the bar and were clearly intoxicated. They were so loud and boisterous, our chef just stopped talking and the "show" ended shortly after the fried ric--he just cooked in silence.
