Tonight we went to Bennett Calabash Seafood No 3. I was having mixed feelings based on some of the reviews. We chose to see for ourselves primarily because we where able to walk. From the minute we arrived the entire staff was very friendly and accommodating. I was so excited about all of the wonderful choices the buffet offered. We mainly focused on the peel & eat shrimp and all you can eat crab legs. I tried several other items and they were all very tasty. My mil was not feeling and wasn't able to eat all she could eat. The manager and our waitress were so kind they noticed she wasn't feeling well. They offered her some crackers and a carbonated drink. They even charged us a fraction of the amount for her buffet. Just got to Myrtle Beach and this was the first restaurant that tried. Let's just say I was not impressed. The restaurant was empty so we were seated quickly. After being seated and given menus we opted for the all you can eat buffet. The presentation was nice however the food.....the crab legs were overcooked, rubbery and nasty. The fried tilapia, fried shrimp were tasty. The fish puppies that they give you were wonderful and the desserts offered looked like samples that offered in grocery stores. Needless to say we spent $90 for two people and was not offered refills of our drinks at any time during our meal. Having eaten at Captain George's two nights before, after dining here I have to say this buffet was less than stellar. It reminds me of a Golden Corral- for instance, they bring you plates as you need them. The food seemed old and the taste was just off. If you have the option, I would absolutely suggest Captain George's. The final bills were within a couple of dollars of each other and I can say without hesitation that it trumps Bennett's by a mile. We arrived in Myrtle beach was told this place was amazing so we went. They were closing at 9 and we arrived at 8 so we probably should not have stayed but they said it was ok. Our waitress was nice she asked of we wanted unlimited King crab legs for 59 and buffet or 1 lb. 39 and buffet. Something like that so we got 1 lb of king crab legs they arrived over cooked. The meat stayed in the shell when cracked and they were not amazingly good. I should've asked for a fresh order but since the night started with they close at 9 it didnt dawn on me. The buffet was hot or miss. The okra and hush puppies were amazing along with the 1st piece of catfish I had. My daughter liked the grouper and the scallops we both liked. The bang bang shrimp were not good or the deviled crab. The brocolli soup was good and the fresh fruit. Someone took a pic and gave us one for free we purchased 2 pics for 20. It was a bust but perhaps it was a combo of things. The vanilla ice cream was broken they were gonna fix it looked at the time and returned to cleaning. They were cleaning the kitchen and employees were eating. It just screamed we are closing when we should have just came back another night. But professional is professional and perhaps I wont come back again. Kids were running around the buffet unattended and there were signs not to do that. I visited Myrtle Beach for an annual golf trip, and wanted to make a trip to one of the many seafood buffets in the area. About 7 of us from the group headed over, based on the yelp reviews and thought it was "ok". The selection was decent for the price, food was good, but the service (hostess mainly) was below average. We overheard the hostess complaining about us after we asked to sit at a different table. We weren't rowdy (or drinking), so I imagine she is sick of golfers or had a bad day. We made the mistake of coming to Captain Bennett's Calabash Seafood after a long day on the beach caused us to space on making a reservation elsewhere. We figured, "It's a buffet. You know what you're getting. How bad can it be?" Captain Bennett invited us to completely recalibrate our scale of bad. I've eaten my share of subpar meals that fell short on either taste or quality, but still evinced some redeeming degree of effort in the preparation and service. The problem with Captain Bennett's is that it appears to put zero effort into any aspect of the dining experience whatsoever, from the front of the house to the back. The couldn't-be-bothered hostess "greeted" us by sticking out her arm and saying, "Over there." Our server appeared as if she were nervously reading for a role in community theater that she wasn't likely to get. And the food... Where to begin? With a salad bar offering heaping piles of iceberg lettuce and italian dressing? With rock hard, over-baked potatoes harboring rottenness as a secret surprise on the inside? With scallops, shrimp, and clam strips fried to near nothingness, just a row of picked-over trays of batter pebbles resting in lagoons of oil? Or with the depressing dessert bar, where pieces of cake looked as if they had been tossed from a distance of several feet onto plates and the ice cream had the temperature and consistency of gazpacho? It seemed inconceivable that anything could be worse than the food, but then came the bill--$155 for four adults and two children--which added insult to our disappointment and queasy stomachs. We got to our table, went up for the buffet (which looked like the typical low-end buffet) when we got back to our table a lady was walking thru, throwing up every 2 seconds. We were disgusted and we got up to leave. I have to say this was the worst seafood I have ever had, it was my wife's birthday and I thought I would treat her to a special diner. Wrong! The food was old tastes fishey and the meat end of the buffet was the worst one would ever see, the meat was siting in pans and dried up the prime rib was sitting out and really it looked like it had been there for two days. As for the meat selections durning the time we were there no one touch any of the meat bar. It was almost scary. And I couldn't believe the workers didn't change it out the only thing that was fair was the crap.l say this with all honesty with all the seafood buffets avoid this place at all cost. We come here almost every year that we're at Myrtle Beach for vacation. It's a good place to eat, not great, but all of the seafood places are about the same, it just so happens this was the first one we tried long ago, so it's more of a tradition other than the food being amazing. As far as Calabash seafood houses go, this place has most of them beat. I understand that these seafood houses are more about quantity than quality but this place is actually really good on top of being all you can eat. My wife, my grandson and I dropped in on our go to restaurant, while here at Myrtle Beach. We always include a visit here because, though the service is sketchy, the food is usually quite good. Not the case anymore. They may have changed cooks or management or the way they do things. The fried oysters, always a favorite of mine, didn't taste the same as the last few times I was here. The fried scallops were just ok, seems to be missing something. My wife and grandson made up their part of the bill by chowing down on the crab legs. I don't do crab legs. I sampled a lot of what they had out there along with the clam chowder. Clam chowder was tastless, though they did have clams and potatoes in it. Bland, tastless, Clam chowder. It used to be much better than this. I don't get it. Why fix something that ain't broke. The price is still high, we were okay with this when it was good, food now just doesn't justify the price. The service is still poor, they use young people from other countries, and while I'm not against foreigners working the summer, I think they should have a better command of the english language and when you question the bill, it shouldn't be taken as a direct affront to them. They need to work on their people skills. Waitress was a bit slow and clueless on how to do things more efficiently. When she asked if we would need melted butter, that should have been a clue to bring some nut crackers for the crab legs. No, she had to make the extra trip and make us wait until she got around to getting back to our table. Maybe she had a lot of tables to tend, I don't know, but she could have made it easier on herself and us with a little extra common sense.So I think it will be awhile before we visit Bennetts again. We were greeted and seated immediately... For a larger party (8) that is not often the case. Our server, Gabby, was our constant dining companion. She consistently refilled our drinks and cleared out plates. We never had to ask for ANYTHING!! She may have been the highlight of my experience. Now on to the food...we were immediately greeted with fresh, hot hush puppies. Those things were the truth!! You can mess around and only eat hush puppies, if you aren't careful. Everything was hot and fresh. The fried scallops and oysters were exceptional. The ribeye and prime rib were very tender. As an avid meat eater, I was not disappointed in flavor or temperature. My family members all enjoyed their meals, too. The crab legs were the highlight of the meal. They were hot, fresh and flavorful. Sometimes when you have crab legs on a buffet they taste watered down and are hard to eat. That was not the case here. The only dessert I tried was the cheesecake and it was BLAH! Major disappointment. My husband enjoyed the peach cobbler. There were several other options and fresh fruit, but I was too stuffed to try anything else. Very good seafood all around. The wait staff is superb, she must have checked on us two dozen times. We were seated within seconds of entering, the place was crowded but everything moves quickly. But $31.99 is a lot when you only make one trip to the buffet. I didn't even have dessert - the buffet itself is just overwhelming with so many choices and items. It was really good, what I had (scallops, oysters, mashed potatoes, fish) but the hush puppies aren't what I call hush puppies - very small, very hard fried, very round and very onion-y and garlic-y. But the place is really clean, and the food very good - it's just a lot, and expensive. If you're hungry for seafood, I'd recommend this place, because you will have more choices than you can imagine. read more

My dad and I eat at Bennetts every time that we come down to myrtle beach but it's normally at the bigger number 2. Number 3 was okay. The food was a little to fishy tasting but overall it was solid. The service was sub par at best and the waitress was somewhat rude to us. The free post card picture they took of us was cool though. Overall I love bennetts but go to number 2 or even number 1. Number 3 was not worth it. I would recommend number 2 then number 1 and finally number 3. read more
