I've eaten here twice with a bunch of friends. It's definitely an experience. The place is literally inside a barn, which means a nice, musty scent, and plenty of stuffed hunting trophies on the walls. The steaks are decent, particularly the strip. Skip the ribeye--although that's typically my favorite cut, it's kinda inconsistent and not worth eating around the fat to gain just a bit more flavor. My ribeye (ordered mid-rare) was served lukewarm, which I could kind of understand given the size of our party and several orders requesting different levels of cooking, but I'd rather the steaks had been served when they were done and still hot rather then letting the rarer steaks like mine sit until everything was ready to be served at the same time. On the topic of flavor, keep in mind these are wood-fired, so they have a very unique taste that may not be to everyone's liking. And it seems they don't really add any seasoning to the meat. While I appreciate the purity of a good piece of meat, even the best cuts benefit from a bit of salt and pepper, and adding it at the table after cooking just isn't the same as seasoning it from the start. That said, the NY strip was a great cut, though $48 seems pretty steep when I could get something comparable for half the price at a chain like Longhorn (and which would actually be seasoned). Yes, you do get a salad and a side included for that price, but it's still a lot of money for something that definitely isn't a premier steakhouse meal. On the topic of salad, be prepared for it to be served absolutely swimming in dressing. There are a few options for dessert; so far I've tried the bread pudding (don't bother with this, it's way better at Crab Daddy's) and the Raccoon (this is realllly good). Oh, and the rolls. My god, the rolls. It's ludicrous to go somewhere just for their dinner rolls, but if I was going to do so, this would be that place. Absolutely delicious, especially when they are piping hot just out of the oven. Overall, Bennie's is an experience worth trying once.

We have driven by this place frequently and had been curious about it so we finally stopped in for dinner. Apparently it is under new management. The interior is very cool/ it literally was a barn so walls and ceiling are all wood. It has some cool looking iron chandeliers too. Service was quick- perhaps a bit too quick but I think it was because the server was new. As soon as we sat down, we were asked what dressing we wanted on our salad. Salads and warm bread were immediately placed in front of us and then our drinks arrived. I had a nice glass of Cabernet and the prices were very fair. After we ate our salad we placed our entree order. All entrees come with the aforementioned salad which is a bit of lettuce and a tomato or two. You also can have either a vegetable medley or a potato (baked, mashed or fries). Additional sides are available for $5. I ordered the southern fried chicken as my neighbor had sung its praises. She was correct! You can specify if you want all white or dark. I chose all white fried chicken and a baked potato with butter and sour cream. First, the chicken was fried perfectly and the breading/skin was delicious. It was a huge serving so I will also be having fried chicken for lunch today lol. My husband had the pork chop and pronounced it good and said he would order it again. To finish up we tried the raccoon drink/ omg- brandy, amaretto I think although my husband says kahlua and ice cream. Whatever was in it - it was delicious and a great end to a good meal. They also have a bar with a tree growing in the middle of it and a fireplace. Can't wait to go some evening to sit outside and hear some music there.

I spent my second New Year's Eve at Bennies. I might have added a star if they'd changed those red checkered tablecloths to white ones for a fancier night. And unfortunately, they are renovating g the area where a live band played on a previous year. The salads at Bennie's are absolutely delicious, as is the bread. I got a rib eye, which was enormous. The loaded baked potatoes are also enormous. We got oysters as an appetizer, and the presentation was cool. I think it was called an oyster table, or something like that. We got mushrooms and broccoli as well. Zero complaints on the food. And service was good, especially on a holiday evening. We were just too full for any dessert.

Given this place's history dating back to the 1950's, it seems like it was once a landmark establishment for SSI, and I vaguely remember my parents and their friends leaving us with a babysitter to sneak off for dinner there in the 80s. Since then, Bennie's has turned into more of a nostalgia stop for those who live in the past and refuse to acknowledge how dated and behind-the-times it has gotten. The atmosphere could retain its charm with the fireplace and other features, but clearly it needs an upgrade to fit today's standards for fine dining. The checkered tablecloths were ironic-cute in the 80s, but you won't get away with oilcloth and $49 entrees today! Your tablecloths are 40+ years old! That's not cute! Again, I'm sure the food must've been great back when, but we went for drinks and dessert and could tell from everything we ate and saw that it's banquet hall type food, and has no contemporary relevance, especially compared to so many hotspots on SSI. My son's cheesecake was from a food distributor, same as any folding-chair catering facility across the US. Why visit SSI for generic sub-par cheap-wedding food? Husband's dessert was another generic tart style pie with a saccharine aftertaste and Reddi-whip. My Raccoon dessert cocktail was a novel concept, and it's fun to try any house signature, but again, it was made with such processed, mediocre ingredients that it really could've been any old boring Kahlua combo. Nothing memorable or worth going back to reorder. Glad we tried them for drinks and dessert before risking dinner. This can't be what they served decades ago, or how would they still exist? Bennie's is riding the coattails of its former glory rather than reinventing itself to fulfill its legacy. Keeping up the standards of yore means evolving with the times, not making a time capsule of a bygone era. 3 stars for its potential to revive what everyone wishes this place still was, but they need a defibrillator stat!

You're in a barn. The decor is unique.

The Havarti grilled cheese sandwich was also a hit. Handhelds were priced $15-20. And the entrees were $20+. Highly recommended this restaurant and bar. The store is a plus to the dine.

We sat at the bar but learned the Tuesday special was a flight of three bartender choice wines 2 oz pours for $15. Evidently the Wine tasting thing was not current. We've seen many restaurants don't update their web site so it's always a gamble when you show up. Not sure if it was an open table thing or the restaurant. Either way we enjoy wine so my wife ordered a red flight and I ordered a $6 happy hour Italian Pinot Noir. The Pinot was fine and decent pour and my wife sampled the flight. One of the wines was a little off and we both thought it may have soured. She mentioned it to the bartender and he shrugged it off and said it wasn't an old bottle. Mentioned it again and no big deal. Might have been nice to at least offer something else. I'd recommend ordering a glass of what you like rather than waste the $15. For dinner I wanted to try the seared pork ribeye but they were out of stock so I settled for the short rib sandwich on ciabatta bread. My wife ordered the beet and goat cheese salad which she enjoyed and thought was fine. The short rib sandwich was tasty enough but the bread was soft like it came out of a plastic bag. I was hoping for a better quality bread which is important for a sandwich. It wasn't something I would order again. Overall it's a really quaint place with isles of olive oil and items to purchase but the experience was a 2.0 and the food average 3.0 at best. I really expected a bit more especially from the look and feel of the place. Not sure I could get around to wanting to go back to try anything else on the menu. Bartender was nice but overall just not a good experience after a long day of work. I feel bad to leave an unsatisfactory score but I upped my 2.0 to 3.0 as ratings are important and it's probably at least a 3.0.

We made an online order for two pizzas to be charged separately . when we arrived to pick up the pizzas, they rang both orders on the same card and the second order charged for two pizzas. So essentially we paid for three pizzas on one card. We didn't realize this until we got home with our pizza. We called immediatel, but they couldn't find where they had charged our card. What?! so the next day we went there with our receipt and they still didn't understand what we were trying to explain and couldn't find the order on their computer. They wouldn't give us the overcharged amount but instead gave us a card on which they wrote Free large pizza. The overcharge was for the amount of a specialty pizza., $27.--. Tonight we ordered online once more and ordered our 'free' pizza. we ordered a specialty pizza like before. When we picked it up and gave them our free pizza card they said it was only good for a cheese pizza and charged us extra for each of the toppings that were included in the specialty pizza which came to $12.95. So not only did we get overcharged the first time but we got cheated again the second time. Needless to say we won't be back. This is not customer service.

My experience is that many places just don't deliver the quality expected and I'm often disappointed. I'll have to say, Woodside delivered! This place is clearly elevated, elegant, and the food is prepared with culinary skill. From the moment we stepped inside, I could tell the atmosphere was classy and quaint. We were greeted by our server Buddy and the bartender. My instincts were that this was going to be good. I was still cautious. Buddy seated us appropriately and brought us menus and filtered water. We both started with coffee and to my surprise Buddy brought a large urn of French press coffee, whole cream and sugar cubes, I absolutely love French Press coffee but rarely see it at a restaurant. I make it at home and it definitely adds to the enjoyment of a good cup of coffee. Definitely a step above here. We looked at the brunch menu and found it hard to decide as there were so many interesting selections that I wanted to try. My wife ordered the Eggs Benedict and I ordered the Croque Madame. As I deliberated, Buddy suggested that I'd stick with my first impression and that I would not be disappointed. I thought it was very classy the way he presented that and it makes sense that sometimes one should go with their first instinct, rather than wonder if they made the right choice later. Again, there were just so many things I wanted to try. When our meals came out, we were both pleasantly surprised at the quality and taste. This was not ordinary breakfast, but I had a good price point for what you get. It was really about the same cost as most breakfast places on the island, but such higher quality and sophistication. I can honestly say this was the best brunch experience I've had in many years and we've frequent a lot of places. The Croque was so tasty, complex and abundant and even the french fries were excellent. My wife's Benedict was also very special as it was rich, fresh, and absolutely clear it was prepared by a chef. The Latkas were a tasty complement. Overall, this was an outstanding experience and I just didn't want to leave. I can't wait to return for dinner to experience it. I believe the menu changes daily and I would definitely recommend Woodside as an elevated dining experience. I am happy to rate this a true 5.0 as it is the best food I've had in the Brunswick/SSI area over the past 6 months. Buddy was great and clearly understands service etiquette. The restaurant is large enough with good bar space and two dining sections. Overall it gives a nice quaint ambience with a big wood fired oven in view from the bar. I ordered an Old Forester well bourbon on the rocks and my wife ordered a glass of red wine. We followed up later with the second round. We enjoyed our drinks and chose to try a handful of items off the happy hour menu. We started with the brie, the chef's choice tacos, the oven roasted olives, and the Caesar salad. Everything had a wood fired flare. The oven roasted olives were a nice order meaty and oven hot. The Brie was wood fired melted with a side of house jam and what I would call a ciabatta roll. It was my favorite. Again very good. The chef choice tacos were beef and came as an order of 2 small but tasty tacos. We shared the Caesar salad which had a nice smoky flavor with a tasty dressing and overall good. Everything was fine and definitely above average and would probably order those again. There's a pretzel and chicharrones also on the HH menu We ordered a Meatzilla Fire bread off the main menu which was tasty thin pizza. A little thin crust for me but everything was fresh and good quality. $1 charge for parmasian cheese. I would likely come back again to try some of the mainstay entrées, like scallops, bone-in pork chop and ribeye steak which looked a little pricey but again sometimes you get what you pay for. Looking forward to our next trip. I would definitely stop by and try the happy hour for excellent drinks and some tasty shareables and remarkably inexpensive drinks. We generally don't order dessert but tried the Eula May which was a sour dough pound cake. It was excellent. I would rate this restaurant at a 4.5, however, it is much better than many of the places I've tried in Brunswick or Saint Simons Island. I'd make a final rating once I try again and taste the entrees. The Yelp average of 4.2 is way too low for this place. I chose to give it a 5.0 rather than a 4.0. Definitely worth trying.
