I still liked it cause they added cucumbers and seaweed salad. Not bad for $10 some thing. XYZ Roll: Woww! Hamachi avocado filling, topped with salmon, tuna, tobiko and spicy mayo. I loved every thing in this roll. Fresh, beautiful and pretty thick cuts of fishes! Doesn't even need spicy mayo. A simple dash of their less sodium soy sauce will do the trick. Man oh man.. I hope I get it just the same way next time I order *cross fingers. Shrimp & Veggie TEMPURA: 2 pieces of shrimp and assorted veggies for only $9.95! What a DEAL!!! It's so hard to find shrimp and veggie tempura for a low pice now a days. Fresh ingredients! Must get for sure. The restaurant was beautifully decorated for Mother's Day weekend with a lot of balloons and flowers. We ordered the soft crab sushi roll, 3 items bento, and 2 items bento. I really liked how the bentos had so many options to choose from. I highly recommend the soft crab sushi roll. It was crunchy, yummy, and beautifully presented like a flower. *You need to specifically ask for the lunch menu since it's not offered automatically. The below items I've tried aren't on it though, besides the skewers I've been here 5X and they are always able to seat me immediately. It's a long and spacious restaurant so I'd never worry there is a wait. The waitress here is very fast and efficient. She even refills your sake cup when she sees it empty. I like that their large sake isn't too hot when it arrives on the table. It's just the right temperature so you can drink it when it arrives. Other restaurants may overheat the sake so it actually burns your hand (this has happened many times at other restaurants). For food, I ordered the beef teriyaki entree that comes with a side salad and miso soup. There were just a few spots on the meat where it was so fatty that I couldn't chew it up enough to swallow, so I spit that part out. It didn't bother me much. The flavor of the beef is really good and the rest of the meat is juicy. The beef here is sooo incredibly tasty! I also enjoyed the nigiris. I didn't see a nigiri combo on the menu so I just chose my own out of their many nigiri choices. I ordered the salmon, tuna, yellowtail, escolar, and their special nigiri w/truffles on top. Unfortunately I forgot which type of fish it is, but it was amazing! I think it's the salmon belly + truffle. I've also tried their 3 bento items. I got the salmon teriyaki, saba shioyaki, and the hamachi sashimi. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant to anyone nearby. They have a wide selection of food and variety for any of your Japanese cravings. I was eyeing their treasure box previously which I've also just tried. It's called the Omakase Sashimi ($59.99). I was surprised I was able to finish it actually. It was very fresh and delicious as well as a perfect portion for a light meal but it would be a big portion for someone petite. The miso sea bass tastes good but it wasn't flavorful enough to pair with rice so I added soy sauce into the rice. It's probably my least favorite item I've tried here but the rest I've tried and loved, so 5 stars! Also, I got to try the yakitori chicken skewers and ebi bacon skewers as well. Love it! read more

Such a hidden gem in Richmond! Great price for the portions and the taste! My friend and I both got the bento box. I had mine with salmon teriyaki, age dashi tofu, and tempura (1 shrimp and 4 veggies). Everything tasted super fresh. They are $18.95 for 2 items and $22.95 for 3 sides, which is a great deal for the quality you get. The ambiance is casual and homey, and the service is friendly. We ordered miso soup and couple of different veggie rolls. All good - no complaints but nothing out of the ordinary either. The server was good but seemed the only one and therefore quite busy. Their other options (not veg) on other tables seemed to look and people were enjoying so I am guessing this is more for true sushi vs the vegetarian version of it. Good portions, great prices, good deals. I came with my mom and aunt and we decided to spent over $100 so thst we could have the free dragon roll. I ordered the bento box with the salmon teriyaki, ton katsu, and the chicken karage. It also came with miso soup, salad, and ride. The karage was nicely fried and came with a spicy mayo sauce. The katsu was tender and Krispy. The salmon was just a little over cooked a lacked flavor, but the sauce was pretty good. We also ordered the otoro sashimi which came with real Wasabi and gold flakes. I personally think that gold flakes are just so you can charge more and I don't see the benefit, but otherwise it was delicious. Soft as butter and creamy. It was supposed to only be 4 pieces but the chef also gave us a piece of nigiri. We also had the rainbow and Dragon roll. The Wasabi was high quality and not very spicy at all. Definitely not typical horse radish. They we average rolls. Nothing to complain about and nothing to write home about either. Bento Peak is a total find. I was in the neighborhood to visit friends, and when we started saying "I could eat", we quickly agreed to try out the new place. First, I love restaurant openings. It's like a first date with someone who really wants you, and they get all dressed up and at their best and most lovable behavior. This restaurant is like that - a perfect first date that promises a meaningful relationship. Let me jump to the food. It's prepared with understated sophistication and surprisingly assertive in the execution. Also, the prices are great - this is a working neighborhood, so it's gourmet on a budget. Anyway, you can tell they want to up the sushi game, because the edamame was elevated with the addition of garlic and a fiery kick of jalapeno. Our first appetizer deserves praise as well - the fish tacos were exquisite. Just the right combination of impeccably fresh sashimi, creamy avocado, and zesty salsa. The combination was a vibrant spicy symphony of flavors. Each bite was a delight, we couldn't resist doubling up on this appetizer. Next, we were seeking an indulgence, so we ordered the super umami Midnight Oysters - the briny oyster was perfectly paired with the uni, ikura, and raw quail egg, and accented with scallions and ponzu sauce. The flavors danced a samba on my taste buds. It's a must-try! I'm a traditionalist when it comes to sushi, so we also ordered some salmon belly nigiri. I'm not sure, but I think they hit it with a dash of truffle oil? The flavors were rich and complex, and I found it both comforting and soul-warming. My dining partners had other dishes, but I was too full to try their dishes, so I won't comment on what I haven't tasted myself. I found the ambiance terrific too, the wait staff was welcoming, and the place demonstrated remarkable attention to detail - it was evident in every aspect. I found it to be an absolutely spectacular culinary experience... on a budget! However, I would caution you that they're doing a soft open and working out any issues. The wonderful thing about Bento Peak is that it's designed beautifully, with traditional seeming place settings, and decorations, with some contemporary additions that enhance the comfort and experience of the diner. This is the second time my wife and I have been and I have not been disappointed in the slightest. We are always greeted immediately. Oh my gosh! The staff here are amazing! We had reservations for my daughter's 22nd birthday dinner. Upon arrival, the hostess/waitress asked if there was a special occasion, we told her & she escorted us to a private room for our celebration. We ordered drinks and appetizers while waiting for the rest of our group, there were seven of us in total. As each person arrived, they were asked what they wanted to drink and once we were all there and ordered, our delicious food arrived in a timely manner. Our waitress was patient and kind! They aren't kidding when they say the fish is fresh here. Two of us ordered the chirashi don. It had a nice array of sashimi and tamago. The portion was satisfying. I would have preferred usual sushi rice, though. It wasn't exactly seasoned white medium grain sushi rice. It's hard to describe. No rating point deduction. I'll ask for it the next time. The kids enjoyed their 2 piece bento boxes. I might try one for lunch someday. The price was very reasonable compared to other similar Japanese restaurants.
