We had a nice 1 night stay here at the Best Western Ventura. Was in the area for a 2-day tournament in Ojai (about a 15 drive from this location to Soule Park Golf Course), and loved it. Free parking, easy check in, 2nd floor room for my son and I, tons of restaurants and bars nearby, and close to the 101 freeway. It's also a 10-minute walk to the Ventura Pier. There's free breakfast, a Tesla supercharger station 5 minutes away, the rooms were comfy. read more

Not for families of 5. Instead go to Stay Bridge in Oxnard. No rollaway beds at this place. We made a reservation for one room for 2 adults and 3 kids. We called twice and both times they confirmed a roll away was available. When we got there they said they don't have those. Calling around,it sounds like only 2 beds are allowed per room in Ventura, so it felt like they weren't being upfront with us from the start. No apologized or took ownership the miss information. The manager Carlos dint seem bothered by leaving us hosed on vacation. I think code is different in Oxnard. Staybridge was little more expensive but waaaaaaay better! read more

DO NOT STAY HERE- GM IS OUT OF CONTROL I checked into this best western with my buddy for a golf trip. Everything was normal and we get in our room. Room is also totally fine- it's a Best Western so no frills but you know what you're getting. We had a great first night and are getting ready for our round of golf in the morning when I get a call from Carlos the general manager (must also be the owner..). He leaves me a voice message that says I no-showed for the first night of the reservation and asking if I will be showing up that night. He also lets me know I have been charged for the first night. Confused as I'm already in my room, I call him back figuring this will be a quick misunderstanding. When he answers, he informs me I somehow had 2 reservations made and no showed to the second. He said he was going to investigate, but his tone was off and it sounded like he was a cop investigating a crime, not figuring out how a weird error happened. I'm bewildered since I only had one confirmation and the employee who checked me in also only checked me in for one room the day before. Something wasn't sitting right from our conversation on the phone so I cruised downstairs to figure it out in person. This is when stuff gets wild. I let Carlos know who I am and that we just spoke and ask him to explain what is going on. He immediately escalates the situation to 100 and says loudly that it's only been 2 minutes and how could he have finished his investigations. I say that I'm concerned because he's indicated I'm being charged for this error/ no show. As I talk I continue to get cut off by Carlos (as he accuses me of cutting him off) and he begins pointing to the cameras shouting that this is all on camera and I am changing his words and he never said I'll be charged. I pull up the transcripts of his voicemail and he finally says, well yeah I am charging you. Carlos continues in a belligerent manner for another minute before I leave and tell him I'm just going to call corporate and take care of it. When I call the corporate number, the service person who answers the phone also tells me she only sees one reservation under my name. For 5 minutes I have the conversation I assumed I'd have with Carlos about the situation and after she calls down to him, the error reservation is cleared up. At this point I've looked at my credit card statement and see he had already fully charged the second error reservation. Before I head to golf I went into the lobby with my friend to get water bottles refilled (need witnesses to interact with him at this point). As we're leaving (with no water since they don't put any out), Carlos re-engages with me for what appears to be a quick conversation to tell me he has taken the he charge off and hand me a receipt he printed out for some reason. Before I can even give a curt thank you he goes on ANOTHER tirade about how this wasn't his fault, he didn't get a chance to investigate, and on and on. My friend who stays in Best Westerns often couldn't believe how off the rails this interaction was either. I HIGHLY ENCOURAGE you to type in his name to review searches. I'm not sure what changed in this man's life, but 10 years ago his reviews were glowing and in the last 2 years he seems to be on a mission to ruin people's stay. We had stayed here before in previous time. But when I had called and spoken to the person working during the day I was not impressed since I don't like being hard balled. I could work on his phone etiquette. I almost chose to go someplace else. Thank goodness he was just leaving when I walked in the door. The night clerk had a more welcoming personality. Thank you. I do like the improvements to the bathroom where the light comes on at a dim during the night so that's a nice safety feature without having to turn on the lights thank you for that improvement. Didn't get a chance to use the pool but I know I'm in the past I have and I've enjoyed my stay then and again thank you again read more

If could leave negative stars, I would. have never, EVER been furious at customer service workers before because I've worked customer service and I know how hard it is, but the manager at the Best Western on the I10 South Frontage Rd sent me over the edge! We made a reservation online. We wanted a pet friendly room. We told them when we checked in that we had pets. Then we got surprised when we checked out by $150 unregistered pet fee! The person at the front desk put us in a non-pet room and didn't tell us and didn't check off that we had pets and would be paying the $15 pet fee. And when we tried to correct this they blamed THEIR mistake on us and were extremely rude and refused to fix the mistake. They claimed surveillance is on their side, but we told the front desk that we had pets, so they're full of bs. Won't be staying at a Best Western again unless they fix their mistake. read more

Though the price is a bit high, I thought the place was great. Pretty clean, though the floor probably could have been swept cleaner, found lots of dust all over. The room is large and comfortable with lots of amenities, that you don't always see in a room. Also, not sure about the heating/air unit, we turned it on for air and we got heat. Seemed like only the fan worked. Staff was efficient and nice. read more

Stayed here a few nights while visiting Ventura. Great location, clean room and decent breakfast. The hotel is a walking distance to the pier and downtown where we found a few nice restaurants with good food and happy hours. We will stay here again next time we come back to town. read more

Two stars for being clean, well appointed and having a lovely staff. 0 stars for the rude, uncontrolled manager Carlos. Upon trying to use the microwave I closed the door harder than I had the first time as it didn't seem to latch. He Came running out to ask me what's wrong (while on his cell phone mind you) - as I explain that's it's all good, the microwave didn't latch properly so didn't start - he starts yelling over me not allowing me to explain the situation and begins accusing me of trying to break his machine. I asked him to back away from me and not come at me like that, to which he continued, walking into my space, in a belittling manner to "show me how" to use a microwave and then saying he'd call the police - that escalated quickly. I was pretty astonished. He continued to yell at me as he went to the front desk in front of his arriving guests. To be honest I did react to him, which I wish I hadn't, but when someone asks you politely to back off and not come at you - this GUEST - you should probably have some decorum about you to calm down since YOU are the hospitality manager of a hotel!!!! So I did come back down to speak with him but he was gone - was told by others he has a bad temper, is rude to guests and his staff. He's clearly has a problem with women (doubt he would have acted this way to my husband) and has an anger management problem - ownership is friends with him so I doubt this review will do any good but I'd like to think they will read it and address the situation. Front desk personnel turn over is apparently very quick and we now know why. Other things - having a fridge with no freezer and no microwave in room is pointless. But they did have a clothes steamer which seemed nice. The hotel is NOT on the pier - it's across the freeway - but you can walk 5-10 min to get there and I didn't feel the location was unsafe or in a bad area as I've read in other reviews. The non-management staff here cares a lot. During my stay in September, we had multiple issues, and each time, the staff on duty did their best to help us. However, they often could not resolve the issue, because their hands were tied by the hotel management. It's somewhat rare that a management problem is so incredibly obvious to the customer. Though no one on the staff was critical of their leadership, it was obvious there are a lot of pain points that prevent these dedicated, hard-working staff members from providing guests with an experience that lives up to the Best Western Brand. A few key examples: - The shower in our room wouldn't drain. We were in town for a business event, and after the first person showered, no one else could because about four inches of water accumulated in the tub. The hotel was nearly fully booked, so they could not move us to a room with a functioning bathroom that also had two beds. Although it was a fully-booked Friday night, there was no one from maintenance scheduled and they were not allowed to call anyone in. They let us use a nearby room that was unoccupied and had only one bed, which was really kind and helped us out a lot. - The little on-site convenience mart was depleted. I checked when we arrived on Friday for some soft drinks, but the fridges were nearly empty. I checked the next day as well. I asked at the front desk several times, until finally someone explained that they did have more stock in the back, but it was locked up. Only the manager had the key, and the manager -- who hadn't been in when I checked in on Friday -- wouldn't be back until Tuesday. - At some point, when they were turning over to the next day, their whole system went down. There was only one person working, and this individual was trying to juggle a lot of balls while not being able to access anything--not even to ring up a bottle of water. (They made a note and charged it to the room later, when they had access.) It's clear some belt-tightening has happened at this location, and everything is bare bones and maintenance is being delayed, which is resulting in things breaking. The staff works incredibly hard. They are kind and professional, and the management here is making it impossible for them to do their jobs. It was frustrating that during a nearly fully-booked weekend, the staff was left to fend for themselves without trust or support. These were good people, and it's ludicrous that they aren't trusted with basic things like restocking a fridge with sodas and water. I was hesitant to write a review, because I don't want any of this to blow back on the really good people who helped us so much. I hope that someone reads this, and replaces the manager with someone who cares about the guests and the employees. There are really good people working here. The location is great. The management is in its own way. read more

The room was nice and clean. I would stay here again for sure. The night clerk on Christmas eve was accommodating...his sense of humor a little awkward and a tad bit not rude (cant find the right word) but misunderstanding of the humor. They provided a refrigerator, hair dryer and a steam iron. Also a nice shampoo, conditioner, and body wash dispenser in the shower. Stayed here for 1 night for a getaway. Booked a king room with a fridge and microwave . Did not receive the correct room. The room had 2 beds and no microwave, and the room next to us had people who were smoking pot that stunk up our room.. We called the front desk, and they replied that they would take care of it and they had more complaints regarding this... Then, while in bed, someone entered our room, which they had a keycard for.It was very frightening having your space intruded on! The front desk called our room to verify our name with no apology given.. To end the trip, the coffee maker did not work..So not very happy with this getaway..Also front desk is not very friendly nor helpful read more

Staff is very helpful & kind. Easy to access property that's super clean... indoors & out. Typical 'free' breakfast with plenty of fresh fruit & none of it was overripe. Yum! Booked the ocean view room... room description & staff forgot to inform me that it included a view of the train tracks & freeway. Shame on me for not asking - lol. Negatives: no full length mirror, sheets are made of a cotton / sandpaper blend, towels are thick & must be made of wood. These necessities should always feel soft on the skin, not cause anxiety because they might tear my skin. This is not common in the BW brand, so you've been warned. read more

This hotel was a good choice for visiting Ventura and the Channel Islands. The room was clean and had a table where we could eat take out. They offered coffee in the morning (which wasn't amazing, but hey, coffee!). It is walkable to the beach, although further than you'd think due to the overpass. I gave low ratings because the clientele were a bit scary and neighborhood was run down. Lots of homeless folks. We walked to the beach a block away. Over railroad tracks and a dirty bride that went over freeway. About as exciting as walking down an LA river bed. Unfortunately none of this was the motels fault. read more

This best western was very close to the fairgrounds where we had an event. Room was super clean, pleasant and all luxury vinyl flooring that made the room feel evening cleaner. Comfortable bed, bathroom and furniture. Grounds were kept nice, staff was professional and accommodating, and the dining room and breakfast was excellent. We were very pleased with the off-season rate for this clean and contemporary decorated room. Room included a convenient extra desk separated from main room, ideal for anyone sharing the room yet needing to do a bit of work. Spouse found the sheets itchy but I liked the cleanliness and 4-pillow selection. Great shower pressure, thick towels, and nice toiletries. Parking lot provided a secure home for our car, which we left in the lot for most of our 3-day stay in favor of walking to most places. We didn't need or partake but the room had a small refrigerator, microwave, coffee pot, Iron and ironing board, and there was a free breakfast in the office-area dining room. Has a motel exterior with a hotel interior. Nice lobby with an office area containing computers to use with printers. Room smells amazing, newly renovated, with compatible color combinations, and wood flooring. Bathroom is huge with a long decent sized sink and a super clean tub with sitting area and removable shower head that can be adjusted with 3 different pressure styles. There is a face soap and a hand washing soap. You get mini sized lotion, shampoo, and conditioner. Room is equipped with a smart tv, coffee maker, huge fridge, microwave, iron, a sofa, a desk, and a comfortable super clean bed. LOVED this place . Was there for one night, but extended one extra night. Will definitely go back again. read more

Although The room kinda smelled a little funny, could just be a different kind of cleaning product. They were just finishing up parking lot. I think they tried to squeeze in 1 too many spots. You can't ask for more: Juice machine, 2 types of milk, coffee, waffle bar with whipped cream, cold cereal, english muffins, and a variety of pastries and bagels, fresh cut fruit, fresh whole fruit, oat meal packets, yogurt variety, eggs, sausage and patties, potatoes, bacon. Parking. If you have a truck back in for easy out Beach: 8 minute walk past the taco stand and over the bypass across the freeway. Can't get much closer. Save money on parking and walk. Plenty of bathrooms and kids play structure, surfing down the beach. Downtown: 2 blocks away, shops and places to eat, very cute. Was pleasantly surprised with this hotel - very nice renovation. Laminate floors, modern air conditioner, very spacious room. Nice and strong WiFi signal. Majority of the personnel is very good with following COVID rules, that is very nice. Cons - coffee machine is not Keurig, but some knock off brand, and, hence, machine works only when it wants to. To get your suitcase case from the car to the door became an obstacle course due to the line of plants. And the there is no laundry on site. Bummer. It pains me to write this update. Most of the pain is all in my shoulders, upper and lower back. They have the hardest beds we've had to endure in a hotel. We even travel with a 4" foam topper that weighs like 30 lbs. and that barely helps this bed of rock. It's like sleeping on a box spring. It also pains me to write this because my wife and I really do like this hotel and have stayed here at least 25 times over the years. I just can't take the bed situation anymore. After two sleepless and painful nights I was like a zombie each morning. Time to find new digs in Ventura. Other than that this is a good little hotel. Good bye Best Western. This is the best motel we have stayed in. It's not your typical Best Western though but it is nice because they have just remodeled and still are doing the finishing touches. The reception was lukewarm and not very friendly, she gave us a Crappy room located in the back of the U-Shaped building, which was close to the train tracks... not too fun at night. Also highway 1 also runs right by the train tracks. Good thing they remodeled with double pane windows so only the train is fully heard. The rooms were clean except for the carpet stains. Which is fine cuz always bring hotel slippers, never wanting to walk barefoot on hotel carpets and bathrooms. But the best thing is their AC is so quiet and works quickly to cool the room. The parking lot was always filled with giant construction trucks each night but at least they do leave by 9am. read more

A king bed would have been nice! Just kidding. I must say we got extremely lucky with this last minute reservation. The hotel prepared the room quickly and left no evidence of someone else using the room before us. As far as the room itself, we had access to a Samsung high definition tv, a clean remote disinfectant holder [[ which I appreciated ]], dressing table/coffee table (depends on how you use it), microwave, fridge, functioning iron and decently sized restroom. I'm one to complain about hotel beds. I must say this queen bed exceeded my expectations for a Best Western. It wasn't tempurpedic BUT didn't break my back either AND it was covered with white fluffy pillows + sheets. I didn't use the sheets much but did feel warm when I did. In retrospect, the queen was more space than needed! Location: ideal. Walking distance to the beach, the downtown bars and restaurants. Parking: not so great. They issue a certain amount per room. Everyone else must park outside. I'll consider a Best Western in the future. read more

One of the nicer BW I've been in. The rooms were all recently redone, the beds were sooo comfy and so were the pillows. Everything in the bathroom looked pretty high end-- much better than I expected. The bathroom/vanity area was walled off with a half wall, so you don't have to face the rest of the room as you get ready. It was quiet and clean and that's pretty much all you can expect. It is near a train track, but there was only 1 horn all night-- it started up again at like 7 am. read more

I did something I've never done at a hotel before: I cleaned the floors!! Our room was extremely dirty. I called the front desk and I was told housekeeping service is gone for the day and she hung up before I can say more. Rude. I then called corporate and I was offered 5000 pts, housekeeping service the next day, and a King room, but we needed 2 beds and we were unpacked and settled already. I had 3 young children, one of them 10 months old. Seeing my infant touching the dusty furniture and walking/crawling on the dirty floors was extremely stressful, which is why I was on my hands and knees cleaning the floors. See pic below. Unfortunately, I don't think I'll ever considered a Best Western again. I've stayed in enough hotels to say that I HIGHLY recommend to stay AWAY from this hotel, especially if traveling with children. I'm not sure what the restrictions with covid are, but the next day, after housekeeping, our beds were unmade and coffee area was unkept. One of the pillows were still on the floor so I'm not sure how much of the floor was cleaned either. We did appreciate the breakfast. The morning staff were much kinder. Although the location was nice, this stay was not worth the money. read more
