Very unsatisfied with my stay at Best Western Plus in Ventura. I have stayed at many Best Western hotels over the years while traveling for both work and leisure, but this was by far the worst experience with t hem. While the front desk staff was kind during our visit, the room was clean, and the breakfast was good (the only reason I gave this a second star), the room had its downfalls - the bathroom light that stays on throughout the night flickered and there was a cricket that chirped all night somewhere near the refrigerator. These would have been minor things had the bed not been so uncomfortable. Not only was it extremely hard, it made noise every time you moved and the sheets were incredibly scratchy. I mistakenly left my workout clothes hanging on the back of the bathroom door and when I called later in the day to ask if they had made it to the lost and find, I was told to call back the next day when housekeeping was in. When I called back, the girl at the front desk insisted they hadn't been found and that the new person in the room "hadn't call to tell her they were there". I finally convinced her to take my number in case they were missed during the first cleaning and the next guest just didn't report them, but instead left them for housekeeping when they left. She wouldn't even let me give her a description of the items. Overall, save your money and rent a room at the Vegabond Inn next door or the nearby Motel 6 if you're looking for a budget-friendly stay in Ventura. read more

The room was really nice. I think that's a huge plus. The AC was not working luckily it was a cool day. That is forgivable what is not is that I was, what would call confronted at check-out for a pet fee I was under the assumption was paid for. The way it was handled made it seem as I tried to sneak the dog in. I was upfront at check in. The managers way of handling the entire situation was not professional at all. They announced they they would be waving it this time. Waive how? If it was not charged properly how is that my fault. I was really excited as the check in staff and after hours staff really went above and beyond. The ending was extremely disappointing. I will not be returning. It's unfortunate as a five star stay even with an AC not working was trashed in 5 minutes at check out. read more

We booked the room through Orbitz so it was a bit cheaper than the regular rate. Yes there was exterior construction going on however it really didn't bother us much. Biggest challenge was finding an open parking spot if you didn't snag one early on. We did have an issue with our key working which was a pain in the a**. We had just driven 15 hours and last thing my husband wanted to do was make not 1 but 2 trips back to the office just for them to put us in a different room. Because of the renovations rooms are were limited and they were booked full both nights we stayed. We didn't hear much from any if our surrounding neighbors. Breakfast was clean and decent. It was very typical and exactly what you expect to find when a continental breakfast is provided. Staff was very kind and helpful. Pool was clean and my children enjoyed a swim. Biggest perk is the fact the Ocean and pier are literally a 5 minute walk from the hotel. We visited the beach both days we were there. Room was clean. Mattress is pretty firm, lucky for me I enjoy it that way. The complimentary soaps and shampoos were such a nice little treat. Not your normal cheap yuck. I'd for sure stay again if we are back in the area. read more

When we arrived we were shocked at the fact that it looked like a shady motel. Moving past that we stayed the first night on the most uncomfortable beds I have ever slept on. Then it comes to tonight at midnight we were trying to sleep and my cousin woke up and screamed there were bugs on her side of the bed! They were bed bugs.... on her pillow and on the bed! Simple, clean and cheap motel if you're looking to spend some time in Ventura. Great place and fairly furnished with nice coffee tables, chairs and OK beds. Good value. It was a hot weekend, so I did encounter some harmless bugs in the motel, but nothing gross. Good service and pretty tasty complimentary breakfast, including hard-boiled eggs, a variety of cereals, OJ, milk, bagels, etc. This motel is within walking distance of downtown Ventura. The day of my arrival the hotel calls me and asks if it would be ok for my one queen size bed room was a two queen sized room instead, I asked if there was an extra charge and they said never mind we'll give you your original reserved room. So... That made me anxious... Anyway we arrived early, checked in, hung out at the lobby. They said if we wanted we could wait by the pool and gave us the key. This was an awesome gesture! When our room was ready we went in and everything was great! Clean, neat, etc. Next morning hadbreakfast: GREAT breakfast!!! Make sure you get there early! Head out for the day, tried to return to our room but our key cards didn't work... Went to front desk, the manager was embarrassed / upset apologized and re activated our keys. So nothing awful happened, just a couple of hiccups. I loved the pool and jacuzzi! Will return. read more

We just spent the night at the Best Western as part of a multi day road trip. It was the perfect stop for us to have a quick night sleep. This hotel doesn't really have many frills, but I found nothing detracting from a perfect score. The room was a nice size, very modern, extremely clean. I was planning a trip to the Channel Islands and needed a place to stay in Ventura (harbor where the C.I. ferries depart from is in Ventura). I went with the Best Western Plus and I am really happy that we chose it. First of all, it is about 10 minutes from the Ventura Harbor so it was really convenient for us. There is also a playground and park literally right across the street (I had my toddler son with me so it was super helpful) and there is a pretty good Mexican take-out place across the street as well. That was really convenient for a quick dinner. Check in went smoothly. The clerk at the counter (I was later told by management that her name was Alice) was reallly nice and helpful. I also told her my toddler's name. She gave him a little pretzel snack (which was really appreciated for the time of day it was). The next day she came out of the office to talk to me about something in the parking lot (she was helping me out with something I had asked about previously). She told my son "hi" by name and I was impressed. I really appreciated the personalized touch and that she remembered. It may seem like a minor thing to most people, but I really appreciated it. Great customer service overall. Breakfast was. 6:30-9:30am. It was a pretty good breakfast and there was lots of seating (though it was full the first day I was there). On that day we just got our food and walked back to our room. Room was nice. Clean and spacious. Nothing particularly special about it, but it was a nice room with microwave, fridge, tv, tub, coffeemaker... the hotel basics. Ample parking so we were able to park right outside of our room. The Skinny: Ok place. If only it was cheaper. Environment: The area around here is so sketchy, but the nice thing about Best Western Plus is it has its own plaza that feels protected. If anything, this made me feel safer. Service: The staff here are so nice and amazingly accommodating. I think I had some issues with my room and they were quick to respond and help out. Amenities: The rooms are mostly clean and large, but I can not justify the $100 per night price tag. I could find another place just next door that would be $25 cheaper but still have similar amenities. The breakfast provided probably makes up for that cost, but I don't need the breakfast. Kind of wish there were less mosquitoes in the area, though. Not sure if this is an issue with the hotel or just the area in general. Overall: 3/5 I docked down a couple of points because of the cost of the place. If this place were closer to $75 a night, I'd give it a 4 star instead of 3. I reserved a room with this location...after arriving and going into the lobby the girl at the front desk was chatting away with her friend on the phone, only after she finished her conversation did she assist me. I ended up asking Monique to please cancel my reservation because she said the maids are still cleaning the rooms....whatever so i went to another hotel. A few days later i get a full charge for my Stay $140 for a night that never happened. When Making the reservation i was Told that my card does Not get charged UNTILL i check-in, Well that never happened on account that I canceled my reservation and stayed somewhere else! Then when i called back to ask for a refund, the same girl Gave me am attitude, and refused to let me speak to any type of manager! Okay, so, I was looking for savings, not luxury, and actually, I got neither. The rooms are pricey for a BW Plus, cramped but clean, I'll give them that. But who knows; in my experience, the time you really find out how clean a motel room is a week after you're back home and you've come down with scabies or amoebic dysentery. So, we'll see. For now, the damp SoCal air really doesn't need to be amplified by air conditioning (I'm sitting in the BW buffet area writing this.) The breakfast buffet was mostly up to BW standards, and included the customary make-your-own-waffles (nice), and some bizarre "breakfast potatoes," by which I didn't really anticipate sweet potatoes. (Since the rest of the clients and some of the staff appeared to be speaking with Russian accents, perhaps they're not accustomed to our North-American "delicacies.") This was a turnoff for me. (The sweet potatoes, not the Russians.) However, the coffee was excellent, as at most BWs, and since this is not a destination in itself, merely a place to stay while we attend a function that will be held in nearby, but much more expensive Ojai, It's not really a problem. Ask me how I feel after the fourth night of our stay! But the bed was comfy, I slept well, and the pre-made buffet omelets were yummy. Deserves A for effort! PS the advertised "Heated Pool?" Yeah, NOT! Deducted one star for that alone, however... Added it back for the excellent customer service at the buffet, two mornings in. I spilled the contents of an entire cup of coffee over the table and onto the floor. This motel was disappointing. I booked my room on Priceline Express deals for $95, as opposed to their regular price of $125. Even @ $95, it was no bargain. My room smelled intensely of bleach. I cannot remember the last time I smelled that in a motel. The bed appeared lumpy when I first sat on it but it was copacetic as I slept well. The room was clean including the bathroom. Lighting was a little on the dark side. I need to remember to bring a high wattage bulb when I travel via car. There was a queen size bed, a tiny desk in one corner with a chair, and one leather comfy chair. The bathroom had the usual toiletries and ultra bleached, rough-feeling towels. The front desk clerks were friendly when I checked in and checked out. There is an outdoor heated swimming pool and they serve a complimentary breakfast with 2 waffle makers, toast, bagels, scrambled eggs, lukewarm sausages and potatoes, hot and cold cereal, yogurt, Danish, croissants, muffins, apple and cranberry and orange juice, milk, coffee and tea, and fresh fruit. Very satisfactory with plenty of tables and chair both indoors and outdoors. It was winter so I dined indoors. The room had a radio alarm clock and a high quality Samsung TV with about 50 channels including 2 HBO's. Parking was free and easy. Free Wi-Fi worked great. This Best Western is a 10 minute walk to the pier and 5 minutes to Main Street. read more

I love my bf but he's really bad a planning. We were taking a trip to Ventura but he didn't book a hotel. Fast forward to me calling different hotels as we were driving there. I forgot the fair was in town so that complicated the situation. We chose the BW mainly because they had rooms available and I wanted something near Main St. so we wouldn't have to drive. Even though we winged it, I really enjoyed our stay. Diego is the nicest guy and answered all of my questions. When we arrived he presented us with welcome cookies. Our room was clean and had a fridge. The complimentary breakfast is served until 10 which is too early for my bf but it's never too early for me. I headed down there at 9: 45 and loaded up on waffles, yogurt, orange juice and the best bran muffin I've ever had. Win! read more

I stayed here with my friends during a tour around California. When you first arrive it looks just like any other inn next to a highway. Luckily after walking out, we found the Inn was only a 5 minute walk from the beach and the main street were you had loats of nice shops and some nice restaurants/ bars. We didn't pay that much and the rooms were clean, spacious and the beds were great! So even though at first sight the area doesn't look that nice, it is! My brother I traveled up to Ventura for a concert. We initially chose this location because it is walking distance from the venue and was moderately priced (total came to 115 with tax. Free Wifi. We stayed on the second floor, a one-bed room. It has a very cute private vanity area with an entire mirrored-closet opposite of the vanity. The shower is WONDERFUL! It's a full standing spacious square. We ordered a rollaway bed at check in (for an extra $15) and my brother said it was very comfortable. The main queen size bed was also very comfortable, very generous with the pillows as well. Now onto the best part, the complimentary breakfast!! This isn't your generic bread and fruit breakfast, they have a variety of coffee and juices, two waffle makers, sausage, eggs, beans, cereal, bagels, english muffins, and so on. Definitely worth it! If life ever takes me back to Ventura I will DEFINITELY stay here again. read more

We were in Ventura this past weekend unfortunately for a funeral and had decided in advance to spend the night. Booked the room thru AAA. As others have stated the hotel is currently undergoing renovations but that was a non issue for us. It has a humble exterior appearance but that'will change once construction is completed. Carlos took care of us, and Best Western, if you're listening, he is a valuable asset to your organization!! He let us check in early (yay) and we asked for oceanfront If available and Carlos hooked it up for us. He was also very helpful, giving us a map and directions to nearby walking distance attractions. He also let us know about the train, but If you are staying anywhere on the coast YOU WILL HEAR THE TRAIN. If this a problem you may consider a hotel a little further inland. We've stayed in many hotels along much of California's coast and the faithful train always delivers! He also told us about the complimentry breakfast and hours. My husband said the girls working the breakfast area were also very nice and helpful and there were a wide variety of selections to choose from. There are no elevators so if you have limited mobility you may wish to stay on the ground floor. The ice machines are also up front so you may want to pick that up on the way in if you have a cooler. While the room was a little smaller then some we've stayed in, it was well appointed and very clean with a modern feel. The bed was super comfortable, as well as the bedding and pillows. It's all about the bedding folks. I didn't use the WIFI so can't comment on that, we wanted to get out and explore, not sit in our room. (This was an overnighter) After settling in, we crossed the bridge to go to the pier and chilled for a while. The pier is also being repaired but there are a couple of places to eat. The beach is rocky, but it's nice to stand on the pier and feel the wind in your hair. After that we headed back to Main Street and to our surprise a Champane street festival was going on!!! The whole downtown was cordoned off and there were Live bands, DJS, vendors and lots of happy people (many intoxicated) running around. The crowd was very diverse and the vibe was super cool. There was a huge security presence although everyone was well behaved. We got oysters from Lure Fish house and they were the best oysters I have ever had. BEST.EVER. They also make a pretty good Old Fashion. From there we stopped in many of the cool little shops and wound up listening to a live band at Amigos Cantina "The Dive Bar Messiahs". They played pretty decent classic rock, and we danced the night away. We didn't eat there so I can't comment on the food. Lots of locals of all ages hanging out and the dance floor was mobbed throughout their set. The locals love their dogs here and they are out in full force. Many of the eateries are pet friendly, and I have to say I did not see one doggy mess the whole time we were there. And we walked. A LOT. All in all, very cool beach town , lots of options and a great couples weekend getaway. Ventura, we'll be back. read more

Booked through bestwestern.com because it's a great deal for families. They include a free hot breakfast and free wifi (although it's slow at less than 2 Mbps). Checking in was fast and easy. No elevator to the 2nd floor that I saw. There is a decent size pool next to the parking lot. The outside could use a makeover, but the rooms (we had room 206) are updated and clean. They are currently refreshing the exterior facade. Our A/C unit wasn't working at first, but after calling the office, they were up within 5 minutes to check it. Within 5 minutes more they had it working, and it worked well! There is a microwave and large mini fridge in the room. There is a newer flat screen tv in the room. They recently update the remotes, so if you have problem changing the channel like I did, look to see if the infrared eye fell behind the dresser. It's connected to the tv by a 3 foot cable. The hotel is within walking distance of the Ventura Pier. There is a taco restaurant (Beach House Tacos) and nicer restaurant (Beach House Fisch) on the pier, nothing else. During our visit the pier was closed, look like major work is being done. The beach is elevated above the surf. The water was slamming against the boulder lined beach. You can't play in the water in this part. There is a kiddie playground on the beach. You can walk a block to Spencer McKenzie's Fish Company which has good fish and shrimp tacos. The fish and chips was also good. We also enjoyed the clam chowder. read more

The location is very close to the Pier and very close to all the little shops and restaurants downtown. There is also a family park right across the street. It's not a fancy hotel, but it's very clean, and the staff was friendly and very helpful. I arrived 3 hours before check-in and the lady working that morning (Wesley) took down my number and called me as soon as a room was available, that is excellent customer service in my opinion! Hotel was quiet despite that the Highland games were going on and the entire place was booked. Noise wasn't an issue whatsoever. Continental breakfast was amazing! There are so many choices! Waffles, toast, English muffins, pastries, boiled eggs, fruits, cereal... it was definitely a little more than most continental breakfasts of toast and some fruits. There's also a juice machine, so there are definitely choices here. You're not going to get a fancy breakfast, but for continental, they had a great selection! The only semi negative thing I would say is that the front desk was slow, but we found out right away that it was because the entire hotel was booked and everyone was asking for extra blankets and pillows! The lady working at night got us fresh blankets and pillows straight from the dryer (we went in with her) so we got warm freshly laundered blankets, yay! Excellent value and convenient location. Very close the downtown. Close to freeway... I was concerned about freeway noise, but I didn't hear it at all inside the room.... and I'm a light sleeper. Outside def has an old school vibe to it, but our room appeared to have been pretty recently refurbished with relatively new beds and appliances. Beds were comfortable enough, and the room was clean. Breakfast was good, and staff was cheerful and helpful. In the morning there were people talking outside of the room. It sounded like they could've been inside with us. Otherwise there were no noise issues. The water temperature in the shower fluctuated while showering, but it was manageable. That's part of traveling, the unplanned, unexpected, and sometimes the uncomfortable. If you can't handle that, don't bother! But if you're a traveler able to deal with the adventure then you'll be very happy with this hotel! Will recommend and stay again. read more

We stumbled onto this motel when we decided to take our son to Ventura for an ATA tournament. We've stayed at Best Westerns before and decided to stay at this one based on past experiences. We were glad we did. The rooms were a good size and clean. Amenities included a mini fridge, an ironing board and functioning iron, and a well-lit area outside of the bathroom with a counter and chair for those who need to get their makeup or hair ready and prefer not to do it in a tiny, humid bathroom. Finally, I have to mention the free wifi. It actually worked and kept our son happy when things were quiet in the evenings. The location is great: just a few miles from the Ventura County Fairgrounds (where the tournament was held), at least one park, and the beach. Parking was tight, but only due to a renovation project at the motel. No problem though, there was still plenty of parking in the motel's lot, and on the same side of Business 101, directly across Fir St. There are also a good number of restaurants within walking distance of the motel, and even more within a very short drive. The staff was wonderful: courteous and helpful--especially Monique. Here's what locked in the 4th star for us: a few hours after checking out and on our way home to Vegas, we realized we left something in the closet. We called the hotel and four days later we had the item in our hands at home. Monique shipped it to us fast and insured. That's customer service! If you're headed to Ventura and want an affordable place to stay near the Fair Grounds and beach, don't look past this Best Western. read more

Where to begin. This was my husband and I first time visiting Ventura. The beaches are beautiful. This inn has newly renovated rooms that were really nice and clean. The front staff were very friendly. We enjoyed the close proximity to dining, downtown and the beach. On our first night at this property it was really loud outside in the parking lot. There was a group of people drinking, being loud and leaning close to my parked car. My husband and I did not feel safe leaving the room. Lots of sketchy people coming in and out of the property. We ended up leaving early from our trip we did not want to stay on our second planned night here (even tough it was prepaid). I totally was blown away with this little motel. Seemingly Ventura was a bit of a sleepy town. Not much going on but still it was 150% better than the Motel 6 we stayed at in Santa Barbara. We found this place in our AAA travel book. There was no way I could stay at Motel 6 one more night. Granted it's 26 miles further but what a difference. It's also 2/3 the price of Motel 6! We had a problem with the hardwire internet connection so they gave us $10 off at check out. Plus: -Attentive welcoming staff. They gave us welcoming sweets...individually hand wrapped white chocolate macadamia and chocolate chip cookies at check in!! -Clean, roomy, nice attentive staff, very comfortable room. The bathroom/dressing area, closet, microwave, fridge area is set behind a wall so that is separate from the main bedroom area. -Free internet access and free use of 2 computers in lobby -Excellent continental breakfast - hot fresh made Belgian waffles!!! fresh fruits, yogurts, 4 varieties of coffees. -nice pool area. Your standard reasonably-priced hotel. I wasn't particularly impressed, I wasn't particularly UNimpressed. As others have mentioned, I received cookies at check-in (snickerdoodles), and that was a really nice welcoming touch. Checking out was irritating, because I went to the desk, and no one was there. After waiting maybe five minutes, a man in the same situation asked a maid what to do, and she said we could just leave our keys. Maybe that could have been indicated somewhere? The hotel is U-shaped, and while I was in one of the rooms closest to the train tracks, I didn't notice the noise like other Yelpers did; what bothered me was the other guests, who were really loud in the parking lot. The lot itself is also crowded enough that we received parking passes. What were several cop cars doing there Saturday night, while a woman cried in her car? I don't know. Our room was dark, which was contributed to by the location: bottom floor, back in a corner, right across from the laundry room. No view at all. The room itself had all the necessary amenities, plus microwave and coffeemaker. The wifi worked, and we watched cable in bed - the bed was actually really comfortable. The bathroom was sort of dim, but everything worked fine. I was super happy with the continental breakfast, which included a few types of cold cereal, your basic fruits, oatmeal, bagels, muffins, little danishes, a variety of coffee and teas, and WOOHOO! waffle irons! I thought breakfast in the lobby would be strange, but with the big windows, the cute tables and chairs, and a patio, it was quite pleasant. Unlike the (more expensive) Vagabond Inn next door, the BW had a working pool/hot tub. Allegedly, the BW had agreed to let Vagabond's guests use the pool...and that's how the BW ended up with a dozen Derby Dolls making a racket in the hot tub. I don't think there were any complaints. I'd stay here again, but it's not a hotel I'd particularly want to lounge around at. read more

Great place to stay, with exceptional employees! We checked in Friday afternoon after a meeting in Santa Barbara. We were greeted by Diego with a big smile, given fresh baked cookies, a map with points of interests, and our card keys. Check out was hassle free, thanks to Tamara. The room was clean, linens were fresh, the floor tiles clean, and the carpet vacuumed well. There's a hair dryer, coffee maker with coffee and fixins, iron and ironing board, flat screen tv, dvd player, and premium cable channels (HBO, Showtime, etc.) There's also a swimming pool. Breakfast is included and served in the lobby. This is no continental breakfast with pastries bought from the local warehouse store. This is more! There are 4 different types of cereal (Special K, Froot Loops, and two others), Yoplait yogurt, fresh fruit, bagels, toast, muffins, hard boiled eggs, with accompanying milk, jellies, cream cheese and butter. The highlight is the WAFFLE station! There's a batter dispenser where you push a button and fill up a small paper cup, then you pour the batter onto the waffle iron, close it up, and turn it over. 2.5 minutes later and you have great hot waffle that's better than Waffle House's waffles. There are 4 different types of juices, as well as coffee. There was a worker who made replenished items and kept the area clean, and she was wearing gloves, a great plus! The place is close to everything. Access to the beach is just right around the corner, about a 1.5 block walk that will lead you to a bridge, cross that bridge and you're there on the beach. Main Street is also 2 block away, very walkable. Overall, the place is clean, the staff are super friendly, close to everything, and a really nice place to stay in Ventura. helpful front service and rooms were good with the exception of the first one. It had a broken AC, and the bathroom light had a 5 minute timer one had to reset everytime they wanted to keep the ceiling light on...weird. other than that good. read more

Great hotel! Clean, pretty rooms with a nice bed, microwave and refrigerator. To get to the beach just walk a block to a bridge over the freeway and you're there. The breakfast had a lot to chose from, but the eggs, sausage & potatoes seemed microwaved, the do-it-yourself waffles were yummy as usual! We could hear the train going by but not really a problem for us. If you think it will bother you, request a room away from the tracks. I would most definitely stay here again! read more

We stayed here for the weekend and had a nice clean room, with a comfy king sized bed, frig and microwave. Like any Best Western it provides a decent continental breakfast, just make sure you get there early as the place was packed and food was getting scarce , as were places to sit. Loved the room, but the A/C was noisy. My husband likes a cool room, but this one had an individual unit that was pretty loud. In the evening it got a little noisy with people returning for the night and not being considerate of the old fogies going to bed early, but those kind of things are out of the control of the management so you just deal with it. Location is great. A few blocks up is Main Street with all the restaurants. and numerous Thrift Shops. Is this the Thrift Shop Mecca or what? I would stay there again if in the area. read more

On the plus side the room was nice and clean and reasonably well appointed for the price point. It's also easy to access from the freeway. It is also close to the beach. On the negative side there are a few interesting people that hang out in the hotel parking area and there is a train that passes through occasionally. No good. Half the hotel is under construction! The staff is not up to date on the policies and procedures of the hotel. I called twice, once by myself and then part of my party tried calling. first they said that they were sold out. The second time they said that they do have a room. As we made a reservation we made it very clear (multiple times) that we have a pet. They said not a problem! After waiting for our room to be ready for an hour they came out and told us that we are not allowed here due to our dog!!! Staff was unfriendly!!! Not recommended, at least this year. read more

I stayed here in April for my birthday with my family, I thought it was a pretty good place to stay. The breakfast they have was great with many things to chose from. The room was nice and clean and room service was well done. The first day we got there the pool was nice and clean but the next day that we went to take a dip it was full of sand. I guess some idiots went to rinse off in there. We told the front desk how it was and they said they couldn't do anything about it because they didn't know when the maintenance person would come. That's the only bad thing so other than that it was a pleasant stay. P.s I'm barely writing a review because I just decided to get on yelp hehe read more

Very nice clean room with good hot breakfast in the morning. We all enjoyed our stay and want to go back again. Close to the beach too.
