Love the fact that they had a condiment bar so that you can pick and choose what you want on your tacos. The meat on each taco was flavorful and moist. During what has become my standard early evening drive between Westchester and Downtown Los Angeles I came to realize that in very close proximity to one another you have Beto's Tacos and the Tacos Guadalajara stand less than a mile down the road. It was time for a head's up review. Beto's Tacos vs. Tacos Guadalajara Star 1: How were the service and atmosphere? We're comparing a truck and a stand here so the settings are a tad bit different, but both were quick on their feet and friendly (and English speaking) while dishing out my tacos. Tacos Guadalajara is going to give you that more authentic taco stand experience with a metal vat of meat sitting there and tortillas being thrown on the grill, but if we're being honest with ourselves Beto's Tacos are probably a bit more sanitary in comparison. Beto's Tacos: Star (1) Tacos Guadalajara: Star (1) Star 2: How were the portions relative to the cost? Betos' medium sized tacos came to $1.25 each for their standard meats, which was pretty valuable especially given the self-service toppings bar out front. In comparison, Tacos Guadalajara only charges $1.00, but their tacos are notably smaller also with a toppings bar. Good stuff all around. Beto's is a real hidden gem and makes some of the best al pastor on the West side. Tacos go for $1.25. Aside from the usual condiments like onion/cilantro, salsas, and lemon, they also offer grilled onions and chilies. The al pastor here is just seasoned incredibly well. It has a very sweet and savory flavor, and tastes richer than the al pastor at Leo's. The meat is also very moist, though also a bit greasy. I usually also get the cabeza as well, which is tender and not at all gamey. As far as classic street tacos goes, Beto's is definitely a favorite, with the added bonus of not having the long lines of some of the more popular trucks. First red flag was when I was in line ordering, a guy is about to pick up thefood they ordered and made a face and said, " I ordered five tacos not four tacos." Then the lady putting in the order said ok its going to be a dollar twenty-five because I did not charge you. Guy looked pissed and said "you know what I will take it how is". Second red flag is the people who ordered in front of us also got the order messed up, I saw that when they picked up the order they made a complaint and the person making the tacos came up to talk to him. When I put in my order, it was also incorrect. I had ordered 8 tacos in total and two burritos. Each taco cost 1.25 and a burrito cost six dollars, the total was 16 dollars. My girlfriend made a comment telling me that she messed up the order because she is not paying attention and listening. I did the math and she was right, she only charged me for 8 tacos and one burrito, I told her hey I had ordered two burritos not one then she gave me attitude as if it was my fault. She charged me the burrito and I went on my way home. P.s. was not informed burrito comes with Chile. The truck is nice and clean and it is located in a small gated parking area which is dope because you can either park inside or on the street! They have many choices of items to order and they are not expensive at all! $5 burritos?!!!! Like whaaaaaaat... can't go wrong there especially since it was my first time and taco trucks are usually hit or miss! They have an ample amount of hot sauces to pick from (about 5 different ones from green to red) including a guacamole sauce that is pretty delicious, the usual pickled onion and pepper topping, cilantro and onion (mixed together), limes that are big juicy and super fresh and of course radish. I did order a carne asada burrito and two carnitas tacos. The food came out fast first of all and the burritos were big and packed and the tacos weren't skimpy either! The meat was tender and flavorful and fresh tasting. You don't even need sauce unless you need some heat like I always do. The burrito and tacos were not dry at all which is hard to come by sometimes at taco trucks and the guy taking my order was very pleasant. I will be going back and just might become a regular here. I know they have other locations I'm just not sure where they are especially because they move around. I love this taco truck. It's a perfect dinner or late night spot for me and I've been visiting since I moved to the area three years ago. They're located just west of La Brea (as mentioned on previous reviews on Jefferson and Redondo). What's great about this is that they're parked there from around 6ish and THEY STAY THERE. No chasing trucks around, which is an activity I despise- I'm not a foodsick puppy, I will not chase you. Even when the taco truck disputes erupted, thanks to our wonderful Board of Supervisors, Beto's stayed put. My understanding was that they rented or owned their spot, which I overheard one of the guys explain. When you visit at night, you can't miss it because there's the trailer, a truck, and a generator that lets out a bright beam of light. Parking usually isn't a problem- it's limited because there are lots of driveways, but people parking usually stop and go so you're bound to find something. The guys in the truck are laid back, take your order, and quickly put it together. I don't know how they keep track of all the different meats and numbers, but they've never messed up an order (take that, McD's- seriously, get it right sometimes!). Their salsas are all delicious and they put out plastic cups and bags for onions and limes (they know what's up). All of the tacos are out of this world. I always have to order at least one: Pastor Asada Lengua Suadero Carnitas so that puts me at a minimum of five tacos, not including the additional meats I might throw in from time to time. Oh, and sidenote, since this is an industrial place, don't be surprised by the neighboring junkyard that has ferocious dogs lurking behind the gates. I've known about this truck for over 6 months...its more of trailer and its powered by small ass generator, but it provides a little light and brings little bit of south central LA tacos to the borders of LA and Culver City All tacos are $1, burritos and tortas are $4, i wouldnt recommend burritos nor tortas, you get 4 tacos for the same price, and they are pretty generous with the amount of meat.. their best tacos are pastor tacos...you know its good pastor when it is cooked on a spit with an onion sweating on the top...then the meat is shaved onto the grill...the pastor has a sweet onion taste to it, so juicy, so crispy so good...usually pineapple and pastor compliment each other but the onion does wonders too..
